We had to change rooms 3 times in the 2 days we stayed at the hotel. The 1st room was adjacent to the lobby and very noisy with guests coming and going. The staff woke us up at 5 a.m. moving things around in the lobby. The toilet didn't work in the 2nd room they gave us. The last room was ok but by then we were ready to check out. I would not recommend this hotel.

This is the second time we have stayed here. There are so many nice small touches which together make a big difference. The whole effect is like staying in a friendly relaxed home, where you can do whatever you want. There is a lovely sitting room, with free tea, coffee and home made biscuits at any time of the day or night. If you want a posh coffee, there is an honesty box and these are 50p extra, which is great. Loads of newspapers and stuff to read. Quiet piped classical music, very relaxing when you come in after an inevitable late night. The beakfast is terrific, 3 or so home made breads and cakes and lovely treats, juice and cereals etc, or the cooked breakfast is fantastic too. The staff are really friendly and happy looking, it makes such a difference from the usual surly, inefficient and uninterested staff at the chain hotels. I'd much rather give my money to this lovely independent gem.

I recently booked Pembroke Townhouse for a weekend away with my friend and it hit all the spots. The hotel is a beautiful Georgian townhouse in the Ballsbridge area of Dublin so is surrounded by equally beautiful buildings. It is a nice stroll away from the centre. The lounge areas and breakfast room were really pleasant and the staff all very helpful. The room, although not the largest, was clean and pleasant with a good bathroom and great shower. The breakfast for an extra E12.50 was fabulous with freshly cooked Full Irish and home made breads, jams and cakes. I would definitely recommend this hotel as a place to stay whilst visiting Dublin. It is also near to Lansdowne Road for any Rugby fans.

The Pembroke Townhouse is lovely;it's clean, comfortable, and relatively quiet. Normally I would have no problem recommending the Pembroke to anyone, of any age, but before booking, you may want to finalize your details, ask exactly what you are paying for, so as to avoid any disappointments I was shocked to discover their 15.00 Euro charge for access to the internet,(charging for the internet seems a cheap practice to me, even coffee shops offer it for free). We'd just been traveling for 2 weeks in Ireland having never been charged once for wireless Internet in any of the hotels we'd stayed in. We made our reservation several weeks in advance, asking for a double bed, a single bed and a child's cot. Sadly, the single bed, was a much used, uncomfortable, fold out sofa bed. When asked what could be done to help make the sofa bed's mattress more comfortable, they brought us another blanket, which didn't address the problem at all. Our Pembroke experience should have been better given the ambiance and luxury of the front lounge area, and dinning area. I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt, but even now after returning home from our travels I find thinking of those internet charges and the uncomfortable sofa bed still irritate me.

Due to the staff not reading the Venere booking they only booked 1 room instead of 2 as I have paid for consequently my wife had to stay in a very samall and unsatuisfactory room. Management and staff did not seem to care and no reduction in cost was or has been offered

We loved our stay. Although not in the centre, the hotel is situated in a lovely neighbourhood, which we might not have visited if it weren't for its location. It's well served of buses centrebound just around the corner, including airport bus. Staff very welcoming. Rooms clean and well aerated. Big thanks to Lonely Planet reliability!

The sink in the bathroom had separate taps for cold and hot water, that may be inconvenient. Also the introduction of a shower flexible pipe (instead of the present rigid tube) would really add to comfort.

I would highly recommend staying at this hotel. The staff, especially Francesco, were competent, knowledgeable, friendly, patient, and extremely helpful. While the room furnishings were not luxurious, our room was clean and everything was in working order. We weren't hungry enough to have the full breakfast, so we opted to search for our own. We were able to find several choices for our morning coffee and pastry within two or three blocks. The only caution that I have for this hotel is that it is a long walk (2 to 3 km)to the main Dublin shopping and eating destinations. Personally, we didn't mind the walk...it helped to burn off the generous lunch and dinner portions that we consumed.

Enjoyed our stay, lovely old building, nice to see the inside of a georgian building. Beautiful reception area, you could make a cup of tea or cofee and have a biscuit there in comfy chairs. I would hsve liked to have kettle in room as well as didnt feel like coming down to reception in my pjs at 4am for drink! The room were spacious, nice bathroom and very clean. We were facing street and quite a lot of people were talking loudly outside on and off thru night. So if you want quiet ask for a back room. Was a good walk to heart of city not too far and you get to see a lot on the way. Would defnitely reccomend.
