The most expensive night ever for a stay in a HOSTEL (don't be confused by its name, it's not a ‘Hotel’ at all). And what they do is sneaking four or six beds in a tiny room with a shared bathroom to charge the rate of a standard hotel room somewhere else, plus the breakfast is not included in that high price (must be paid apart). It's just ran mainly as a get-money-out-of-it business, but in a very poor and inefficiently way. Don't recommend it to anyone! If I was wrong enough to choose it, may this criticism serve so that no one else commits my same mistake again!

Good location, reasonably clean. Toilet on my floor was permanently locked, so had to go to another floor. Was given a room with two twin beds pushed together - great for a couple, but I didn't wish to sleep that close to someone I didn't know. Ended up in a 6-bed dorm. Better, but no refund on the price difference. The worst thing about this place is the staff attitude. Never have I felt more unwelcome as a paying guest. If service is important to you, stay away from this place.

We've been there for 2 Nights. For the price of 20€ per person and night we expected the rooms to be small and a bit dirty. So we just stayed in hotel for sleeping. I would recommend this hotel to all guys who spend more time in the city of Amsterdam than in the hotel. All in all, for two nights and an adventure trip in Amsterdam, adequate.

it was a nice hotel in a good neighbourhood and close to the city center. The only thing that should be improved is wifi connection. I couldn't connect to the internet when I was in my room and had to go the reception to use wifi.

The location is good - near the Leidseplein, which is a lively public space and also central for tram and bus stops, including bus to airport. Also close to Museumplein. The bed was comfortable. The toilet bowl was clean. But greed seems to be the operating mode of the management. I was in Amsterdam in early Sept. during the Fringe Festival, and also a huge international business conference (IBC), so there were very few hotel rooms available. I started trying to book in July, and finally at the end of August I ended up at Marnix. They used the scarcity of rooms to justify charging me nearly 400 Euros for a three-night stay, for a twin room with shared toilet, a shower on the next floor. They charge an extra 5 Euros for a continental breakfast. There was no heat for the first day and a half, until after I had spoken to two different hotel employees about it, so the room was very cold. Fortunately there were two duvets in the room, and I was able to get warm. My room was in what used to be a house, that I assume they are going to renovate, but in the meantime, I had to walk past a room piled with junk (old shelves, lamps, other furnishings in a big pile). The carpet was filthy. There was no mirror in the room. The windows were dirty. The walls had peeling paper and damage marks and the door had splashes of something on it. There was a hole beside the door lock that looked like someone had broken in. All in all, not welcoming or comfortable-feeling. And by the way, the person at the desk said it was normal for hotels in Amsterdam to double their prices on the weekends!

Very expensive for the services and the facilities offered. My advise is to avoid this hotel as possible.

The worst accomodation ever experienced: not working bathroom, dirty rooms, dirty blankets and towels, emergency exits not available, etc...The price is absolutely not appropriate to the hotel services (any!). Hotel to be deleted from any booking site! In the meantime avoid to book here!

Everything was perfect, the bathroom was clean, the beds were comfortable and the breakfast included was good! The location is absolutly perfect because there is almost in the city center, there are a lot of shops, pubs and restaurants in this zone and the tram is just behind the hotel. You can go to the city center walking (20 minutes)or by tram (5 min)but it is better to go walking because the way is very beautiful!

Marnix hotel was the worst hotel I have ever stayed. It was supposed to be a 2* hotel but in reality it was a hostel with -2*. The rooms were old, extremely bad furnished and dirty. They never came to clean our room- the rooms were a joyfull place for mice. The staff was not helpful at all and the breakfast was poor and lacking the basic rules of cleaniness. I would't recommend this "hotel" not even to my enemies. The only good thing was its location but eventually you have to return back to get some sleep!

Had some doubts about this place after reading other people comments, but was generally happy, If you are looking for a place to stay and intending to be out doing stuff all day then this is a reasonable choice. The room we had was small. We had breakfast provided, but it is not very organised, but it is only 20-25 minutes walk from the main Trainstation and 10 from Vondel Park and Van Gogh Museum.

I found a cigarette in the room; it was cleaned after. The room was never cleaned in 3 days and we had to make the bed. It's an hotel for alternative young people!!!

Good cost/benefit ratio. Close to main areas. I would recommend the hotel for someone who doesn't care for luxuries.

I think it is the worst hotel I have evere seen. First of all is not a hotel but a hostel. During the journey no one cleaned the room. There was no wardrobe, no shelf. The personnel is not able to be ready in case of emergency. My girlfriend was sick, the personnel didn't call an ambulance. when they called a taxi got us noises as it was waiting. I payed before to see the room otherwise I would never go there. Let me to suggest, if you are not a boy going to amsterdam only to be stoned, choose another place.
