I was staying there for only one night.. thx god for that. If u are big guy or woman i mean chubby persone) don't even think to go at this hotel. Bed was so soft and uncomfterble, shared toilet... seriusly. I could understand if u have toilet but that cubicle what they have there it was just joke, my weight is over 100kg it was just impossible to squeeze between wall and toilet seat the whole space was just 1m x 1m. Shared shower was ok but again a bit dirty and some electric cables haning out of the wall near mirror light. Double Room ok for one persone but is soo loud, feels like u have no windows in a room. Stair is so steep u can barly walk there. The yong guy at the reception was so unfrendly, on the question if u can refil juice tank for a breakfast (which was horrible) he was given me look like ask him to give me a massage. Breakeast tables was so dirty and the yong guy didn't even make attention on that he was all the time busy with facebook. So my advise never stay at this palce its a nightmare!!!

We had a mouse in our room! And when we complained about it, the receptionist didn´t even apologize or offered a price-reduction or anything! This was the worst hotel-stay I ever had! In addition: The room was really small, the wardrobe nearly fell over (we were afraid to put our stuff in there), the table, the lamp and the sink was broken. All in all not acceptable, and the price wasn´t even that cheap!!! The breakfast was allright, but nothing special and the whole Hotel is equipped with little effort, not really nice. But the worst part was the one with the mouse and the really unfriendly and not in any way complaisant service! I would never stay in the Hotel again!

The worst hotel we have ever been. It should be closed down by the authorities. 3 Floors with no lift, accessed by the most steepy and dangerous staircases one can imagine. No phones in the rooms, forcing guests to climb up and down the “killer” stairs whenever they need something from reception. Carpets in need of replacement (full of dust and dirt). To sleep in the mattresses is a nightmare experience (like sleeping in an hammock).

The first unsatisfactory thing was that the receptionist quite rudely pretended to be paid in advance at my arrival. Moreover I couldn't pay with credit card because of line problems or was it something else? I tried with 4 cards but incredibly no one of them worked!! It seemed very strange to me. So I was forced to find a cash dispenser to get the total amount and I was very lucky to have all my 4 cards with me otherwise I should have found another hotel! The triple room was very small and not properly cleaned. There was also a water leak under the wash basin that likely was solved soon. The breakfast room was too small and people had to queue to get food and drinks. Anyhow the buffet breakfast was quite satisfactory. The hotel is anyway a short way to the center of Amsterdam and very near also to Leidesplein where a large number of ethnic and affordable restaurants are.

Simple, little room! Very cramped toilet, unsuited for corpulent people. The room has to be paid on the day of arrival. They don't like a credit card. The stay in the Hotel Crystal will do for young people who don't have a lot of money. If you want a hotel with high standards you are wrong at this place. Quality vs. price is allright.

Plus points: The hotel is very close to Leidseplein which is the best area. I had a great time over there. It is also not too bad to walk with your luggage from the nearest tram stop. I had a really heavy luggage and I still managed to use the public transportation to and from the Airport. The other plus point is the area felt like very safe and stuff were very friendly. They tried their best to make my stay comfortable. I had to leave early so they prepared early morning breakfast and I was even give bottle of water for free. Stuff behavior was very friendly. Negative points are, it is really tiny but for one person it is manageable. The other negative point is as everyone mentioned no elevator so it is some task to lift big suitcases and stairs are really small and hard to handle. The bathroom is really tiny, they did not kid when they said it is small. Finally, not accepting the rent in credit card is not very helpful. A lot of travellers these days just rely on credit card. They definitely have to accept credit cards. The internet did not work. They need to have wireless working. Overall because of the proximity and good service and reasonable price in Amsterdam standard I will stay here again.

The hotel is located on a quiet street near the tourist areas but far enough away from the noise. Staff was helpful and friendly. Caution if you have luggage as the stairs are steep. Small room had a nice view of the back and reminded me of Vincent's Room, Van Gogh's famous painting. Common toilet very small closet but a separate shower room as large as my room. No WiFi internet access as advertised, I had an emergency overseas at 2:00am and had to search a while. Found the internet access in the lobby of the Marriott hotel nearby.

This hotel was very clean, room was small, but exactly as portrayed on the site. One note is that it is a good location for sightseeing (close to Vondelpark and Rjikmuseums and Heineken), but it is a good distance from the train station so be prepared for that.

This hotel is across the canal and about 2 blocks form Leidseplein which was a great location. The stairs are tiny and steep but this is typical of Holland. There is no elevator. We were on the top floor so getting our luggage up and down was a hilarious experience in balance. Our room was tiny but all we needed was a place to sleep so it was fine for us. Toilet on the same floor and shower was one floor down. Staff was very friendly and spoke great English, also typical of Holland. Breakfast was good and plentiful. We left our room key with reception every time we left so we did not have to keep up with it. Reception is 24 hours. I recommend this hotel. location is good, friendly staff, clean rooms, maybe a bit overpriced for the value but I am frugal.

Location is the key! Take the 1,2or 5 tram from Central Station to the Leidseplein. This hotel is just outside the Leidseplein district which is the night club area of town. Dancing at the Paradiso club (8-22 Euro entrance)is a must. The hotel was full the entire time that we were there, but the hotel was not noisy at all. The breakfast was excellent, typical Dutch cuisine. Restaurants are expensive and so a good breakfast that was included in your room was very helpful. There are a few restaurants nearby, but most are in the Leidseplein. I paid 150 Euro a night for a quad room with a shower and toilet. The room was fairly clean and spacious but not top notch by any standard. If you book a room without a shower and toilet, be aware that your floor will either have a shower OR a toilet, but not both. The staff were not overly friendly, but did their jobs and were available to answer any questions. The front door to the hotel has an automatic lock so it made the hotel very safe. Other hotels have their front doors open during the day and many people have had their luggage stolen from the lobby. While the hotel met my expectations, I would like to try a more modern type hotel with an elevator and more room. Americans travel with a lot of luggage and it was extremely difficult staying on the 4th foor and walking up very steep stairs!

Excellent location, in quiet area, very close to the museums and Leidseplein. Public transport for city centre very accesible. Extremely friendly and hepful staff, double room had a tv and safe deposit box, but was a bit small and the bed cover looked like it hadn't been washed in months. The shared toilet was very clean but really small! Breakfast was good and included on the price. Beware that you must pay in full (cash only) when you check in. Overall had a very pleasant stay, very good value for money and would definitely go back.

The hotel was comfortable and staff were friendly, however the boiler had broken down the night before we arrived so we didn't have any hot water until the fourth day of our holiday. We were offered a shower down the road in another hotel but we opted for the cold refreshing douche instead. The breakfast was basic and the staff friendly.

The only thing that was worst was the payment. In venere's confirmation paper appears that the payment is at the end of the stay and that we could pay by card. In the hotel they tell us that we have to pay not at the end of the stay and they not allow us to pay by card because of the commission they have to pay if we do that that way. But we have to pay commission too in the cash machine. It's the only thing because we are not as satisfied as we could be.

Hotel was basic but clean. We had a cold welcome to our room as no-one had put any heating on to take the chill off, and it was freeeeezing outside! On day two of our stay we had been out all day and returned to change before going out in the evening only to discover the heating once again turned off, presumably during the time the room was cleaned. It was noisy in our room which overlooked the street and other guests in the hotel didn't help by being loud when coming back into the hotel. The curtains didn't fit, so we had the glow of the neon sign outside shining in through our room all night, but we managed to sleep well after visiting a few coffee shops!! On the whole our weekend in Amsterdam was good. If I was to stay at the Hotel Crystal again I would ask for a room away from the street. But the location is perfect for Liedesplein (5 mins walk) the main area with pubs and restaurants galore.
