Hotel Hyatt Regency Long Beach - Long Beach, Los Angeles

Hyatt Downtown Convention Center, Long Beach, California - After a 2 night "false start" at another hotel, we managed to book a room in the Hyatt adjacent to the convention center. This is a very modern, upscale hotel in an excellent location from which anything can easily be reached in the downtown. There is a plethora of dining and entertainment just outside the door, and of course the convention center is only a few short steps away. Parking was convenient but a bit expensive at $18 for self park and $21 for valet. The staff were friendly and helpful. Most rooms have at least a partial ocean or harbor view, and ours was no exception. It was spacious and modern, with a desk, sofa and chaise lounge in addition to a king bed. (Other options are available.). The television was very high tech with an electronic guide and a good sized list of high def channels. Internet was available via wireless or through the television, but at a $10 fee for 24 hours. (There is free internet throughout the lobby area.). The bed was extremely comfortable. There was no mirror over the desk, so for 2 guests this necessitated doubling up in the bath or taking turns. The bath was somewhat cramped, and the large single sink took up a lot of counter space. There was only one power point - on the sink side, so use of curling irons and hair dryers would be problematic. It is hard to understand why a great chain would allow such a design to pass, but perhaps these rooms are really designed for single business travelers. The net was a fairly expensive hotel in an excellent location with an otherwise nice room that was strangely dysfunctional in some key areas. We would stay there again due to its proximity to the convention center, but it is not a perfect property.
