Howard Johnson Inn Fort Myers - Fort Myers

We arrived late in the afternoon and once checked in, immediately unloaded our car in preparation for repacking in the morning for our trip back home. The pool was cool by Florida standards but usable. We left for dinner and did not return until quite late. My wife and I started to prepare to go to sleep and that was when we noticed that the carpet in the room we had (148) was filthy. I walked from the front door to the bathroom in bare feet and over that distance they became completely black on the bottom. In addition there was a dehydrated lizard next to the toilet. Upon closer inspection I noticed that the carpet had probably not been vacuumed in some time. The linens and towels were clean but the comforters were suspect. We removed them from the beds before going to sleep. The TV would not turn off unless unplugged. If not for the late hour we would have asked for our money back and gone somewhere else. The breakfast served in the morning was adequate. All in all at the price we paid US$62.00 we expected more and were sadly disappointed. We will never return nor recommend this place to anyone.
