The hotel is in a very good location, in the city center. But it was very noisy, because there is a disco in the same building...we vere laughing, when we saw by the arrrival these earsponges next to the bed...but ne needed them during the night. The staff was nice and helpful, the breakfast very pooor.

The location of the hotel is very convenient if you want to visit the city centre and IF YOU DO NOT NEED TO SLEEP AT NIGHT. Indeed, the whole building vibrates until 4 or 6 a.m. to the beat of the techno music played at the nightclub downstairs. So you cannot sleep even if you use the free earplugs, since they will not stop the vibrations. Hence I do not recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to have some rest after working or visiting the city.

I heard it's a gay hotel but actually it was neat and nice. A bit noisy during the night but how can you expect more since it's located in the center or old town and pub area of zurich.

I was fearful of the potential noise from the bars. But it was nowhere near as bad as I had feared. The bathroom although clean and the water was hot, it could use a faceleft in the decorating department. Your reception staff were excellent. Especially Phillip who a very informative guide for local attractions.

I had a pleasant two day stay at the Goldenes Schwert - the room was clean and comfortable, the location is close to all the amenities and attractions, and the staff were friendly and helpful. But it is worth mentioning, that from the 3rd floor where my room is, music coming from clubs in the building from 10PM till 4AM can be heard.

The Hotel is locaten on a DISCO and the music is so loud that it's impossible to sleep. To reach the Garage is very hard as you should go to the hotel reception first, get a kind of remote controller and than drive to the garage in a very narrow road.

VERY LOUD techno music all night (till 3:30AM) from the downstairs club. Earplugs are provided on the nightstand. Very Gay, painting of young boy holding flowers in our room. Very helpful reception. Condoms in minibar.

Despite a good noise insulation, you can hear the music from the night club located in the same building. Anyway, a good place to stay in Zürich

When i read the comments of others, i specifically requested a room that is quiet. but there's no escaping the loud music and crowd noise from the discotheques (yes, plural) below. the loud music played until 4 in the morning and the cigarette smoke stunk up the room something awful. i've stayed in other hotels in zurich and should have gone to another that i know i would enjoy-- instead, i went for the lower price option, and paid for it...

Room was nice and the location was great. Stayed on the top floor (the "quiet" one). If you don't mind not sleeping than this is the place for you! Staff was friendly and breakfast was descent.

Front desk was most helpful. Arrived early in morning and they stored our luggage. Our room was on 4th flr (back of hotel) and was OK. Had a kitchenette which was nice to be able to eat in (expensive to eat in Zurich!). Our friends room was a big ashtray so they asked to be relocated and the request was accommodated. It is noisy at night due to alley and disco/bar under the hotel. Ear plugs are provided in every room, that should be a clue!! LOL Otherwise, breakfast was plentiful, had a nice overall stay.

The hotel was fine. It was a gay hotel - which is OK - but I did not know that ahead of arriving there. It was located above a busy part of the city - so noisy - however it got worse because of its location above a night club - with sleep distrubing music until 3am. Should I have know all of this I would have booked elsewhere.

I was surprised at how spacious and pleasant my room was, and with a room safe! Though it was not inexpensive, it was good value for money. Goldenes Schwert is in the ancient but trendy section of town with plenty of restaurants, bars, cinemas, and entertainment. It is convenient to the train station and other local transport. The front desk personnel were extremely proficient and cooly civil. Breakfast, included in the room price, was very nice. This little hotel is in high demand, so next time I go to Zurich, I will plan ahead in order to guarantee myself a room at Goldenes Schwert.

The room was nicely decorated, but it was not clean. I found trash in several places, the carpet was old and dirty. For the price, I have stayed other places in Zurich that were much better for cleanliness.

Great hotel in a great location! Right in the middle of the old town, there are great views of the clocktowers and it is only a short walk from the train station. Breakfast is amazing, with toasted crossaints, oj, rolls, assorted jams, and coffee/hot chocolate... served directly to your room!! The rooms are themed. We had the "Swiss Room", so it was decked out in cow bells and pics of the Alps. Rates pretty high on cleanliness, though the shower was a bit moldy. Very nice to have down comforters and pillows though! Staff is extremely helpful and courteous. Do know though, that it is the main (and only?) hotel that caters to gays and lesbians in Zurich, so if you're uncomfortable with that, you should probably find somewhere else. We loved the gigantic rainbow rug that changed depending on the day of the week! =) Biggest drawback: it is LOUD! There is a connected club right downstairs, and there is basically a nonstop pulsing bass from 9pm to 4am. The higher up your room is, the quieter, but the Swiss Room is on the 4th floor and it was still plenty noisy! Overall though, this is a great pick if you're a heavier sleeper!!

This hotel is in the historic part of Zurich and close to the river. We only stayed there for less than 24 hours so we didn't get a great feel for the location. The hotel itself is a gay hotel, but as two heterosexual females traveling it was not a problem. The room was clean and comfortable and the minibar was fully stocked! I would recommend this hotel.

The location, the room, the staff, and the service were all very good. The reason for my overall rating of poor is the noise from the disco located in the same building. The noise was very loud, going to 4am one night and to 6am on the next night! Also, I am allergic to smoke. The smoke from the disco was very obtrusive. The owners should decide what they want to do with their building: have a disco or have a hotel. Having both is just plain impossible.

Good location for quick access to the city / public transportation system. The above ground transportation system is very effecient and easy to use. Very close to the river. Just steps away from a lot of night life (at least on the weekend). Situated between two bars, but surprisingly quiet in the room. Breakfast was served in our room (on time and as selected per the menu). Artsy designs in the room. Helpful staff when asking questions about surroundings and attractions.

This place was amazingly good value with a spacious room, and the breakfast was lovely. the best things about it were the location of the hotel, it is smack bang in the middle of the city, and the handy bus to the airport. the staff were efficent but not exactly friendly, but i would most definately stay here again.

Although the rooms were spacious and clean, the hotel is located above a bar and among other outdoor late-night spots. Our rooms literally vibrated until dawn with boom box beats. They actually provide bedstand earplugs that didn't help. Breakfast was a continental meal (fresh Croissants) but not the buffets found in most places and it was delivered to our rooms. Only recommended to those who might also enjoy the night life.

I would never stay at this hotel again. Perfect location, but everyone failed to mention that there 3 nightclubs in the building which shake the walls and floor until 4 am every night with 4 people in the club for no reason. It was empty and I got 20 minutes sleep the night before I had to travel for 22 hours. No mention of this noise on website. This club is filled with drug-addicts, and prostitutes preying on tourists in packs, and not a place for a naive traveler to be. Luckily my friend and I are well travelled and could navigate, but I would never stay here again. A block away would be perfect, nice neighborhood. If you want to stay up all night and be pestered by mafia-ish-asian-prostitution-rings in a club, this is the hotel for you. I however brought my parents, and it was less than desireable. Great staff though, very nice, professional.

This is a fairly good hotel in the centre of Zürich and close to the gay scene of the city. We enjoyed two nights at the hotel, unfortunately in a room facing away from the street. This turned out to be very noisy. Breakfast is served in the room and is OK. If going back to Zürich we most likely stay at this hotel again. Just go for it.

This is primarily a gay hotel. We didn't realize this before we made our reservation and would have stayed elsewhere had we known before we went. It is also located above a gay night club and the noise from the club was so loud we had to wear ear plugs to sleep. Also since we checked in after 10 PM, we had to go into the gay night club to check in and get our keys. It was quite an experience. Other than that, it is a nice hotel in a great location.
