Hotel Reviews Arlette beim Hauptbahnhof

Italy, Oct 2009
The location was excellent -just 5 minutes from the main railway station and the sightseeing tour departure point. It was also close to a wide range of restaurants. We requested, and received, a room away from the almost completed building work next door to the hotel. The breakfast was just rolls, juice and good coffee but a range of reasonably-priced egg dishes was excellent. We would definitely stay there again and recommend it to friends.

Simple, clean and well positioned. The hotel is in a great spot and in easy walking distance to the train station, public transport, areas of interest and restaurants. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The hotel room was clean but a little dated. You could hear road noise during the day but the road was quiet at night. The room had no air conditioning. Pricing is hard because compared to other cities, it was over priced but in Zurich, it was well priced.

Amazing as we stayed there a year ago and were actually remembered by the staff and would recommend to anyone visiting Zurich as so convenient. Only problem was the building activity just outside the hotel!

This was our second time staying at the Arlette. It is slightly more expensive, but its convenience to the train station and airport are great. We always feel welcome and our needs are met promptly (extra pillows etc.) It is also within walking distance to many restaurants and the old town /shopping area.

Aircondition gives just noise. Breakfest included in the rate is rather simple.

Tiny room. Breakfast was coffee, juice, bread and jam, nothing else. It seems that there was a charge for anything extra -- wireless internet, an egg for breakfast. Maybe it's good value for Zurich but I would probably try another place next time. I did appreciate the location however, very close to the train station and downtown.

It would have been nice to have a little more variety in the food at breakfast time.

Arlette Hotel is a no-nonsense hotel within walking distance (with luggage) to the main train station in downtown Zurich. With round-the-clock check-in desk. Ideal for those who have to catch an early flight at ZRH Airport

Hotel is in a very good location a few mins walk from the main train station and a 10 minute walk to the main shopping/tourist area. Several restaurants nearby also. The staff are friendly and the room is clean, but a little small. Breakfast consists of bread, croissants and jam, tea and coffee. The hotel is a bit expensive for the type of room and breakfast provided.

Es un hotel centrico y conveniente desde la perspectiva de que en general los precios de los hoteles son caros en Zurich.
Denmark, Apr 2009
The hotel is very close to the main station and centre of town (closer than we thought and what was indicated on the map) and the staff is very friendly and makes you feel very welcome. Standard of the hotel and room was good and as we knew this was no fancy hotel it lived up to our expectations.

The location on the map from your website is incorrect which resulted in me walking in the wrong direction for 10 minutes.

Location is ideal for tourists visiting Zurich. Walking distance from the main train station. Staff are helpful in giving you instructions to locate places. No laundry facilities on-site but there is a launderette (about 15mins by tram). Safe location in a safe city.

A good hotel close to the train station but still in a fairly quiet area. Restaurants and cafes close to the hotel. The staff was welcoming. The rooms are clean but small and not very modern outside of the television. I had a single room and it was adequate.

My husband and I only stayed one night at this hotel in early Nov 2008. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We had a double room which was a good size room and the bathroom was clean. The location of this hotel is great and within easy walking distance from the train station with luggage. Breakfast was included in the price but was very basic compared to some of our other hotels in other places. Overall we would definatley stay here again and recommend it to anyone.

Overall it was an excellent stay, the location was excellent with walking distance to train station and tram station, and in Central location of Zurich, we stayed for just 1 night and for first time. The complimentary breakfast didn't work good for us. The staff was kinda shy man, but we could interact to get the best info

Although Zurich is an expensive city, we found the Arlette good value for money. It is situated in a quiet location in the old city close to the many cafés and restaurants of Niederdorf, and only a short walk from the Main station and bus terminus from where all excursions and day trips depart.

Expensive compared with similar hotels elsewhere, and not outstanding value for money. It was perfectly satisfactory in all the important respects, and had excellent access to the old town and the station.

The only disappointment I had was the quality of the included breakfast. I was expecting yogurt, museli, maybe some meats and cheeses and all they offered (included in price) was bread, coffee and oj. My expectations were set from previous trips to zurich with hotel stays in the same neighborhood.

Hotel Arlette is an adequate hotel in a very good location for staying one night before flying out of Switzerland. It does seem to cater to this type of traveler. It is not a great hotel, but is very functional. I would likely use it again, but would likely never stay more than one night.

This is an ideal small hotel for those wishing to be near the station and yet have access to the centre of Zurich - walking to it from the station was even easier and more convenient than the (correct) web information suggested. The room, not large but with desk & working space and services were fine for either a night stopover or for someone who needed to make a short working visit to Zurich. Had we wished we could also have paid our bill in pounds sterling. The staff (it seemed to be a family concern) could not have been more concerned to help with the various details that a first time visitor to Zurich (as we were) requires. Simply excellent!

It wasn't until we got here that we realised there was no air conditioning. Wouldn't suggest staying here in summer as you need to open the window to cool the room down but the noise throughout the night is constant so didn't get much sleep. Winter would be fine as the noise is minimal with the window shut. Otherwise, hotel was fine.

This is an excellent small hotel for a reasonable price (by Zurich standards). It is a good location, very near the train station but in completely respectable surroundings. The staff were very friendly and competent. The room was quiet, clean and comfortable. The location map is inaccurate; the hotel is much closer to the Bahnhof than shown on the map (that is, one block further south than shown).

Zurich is pretty expensive, so this economically priced, well-located hotel is a real treasure. Our pleasant room was well-lit with both natural and electric light, and faced into large trees overhanging a quiet street. There are three quick ways to reach the hotel from the Hauptbahnhof -- none more than a 10-minute walk. A tram/bus terminus is also only a few minutes away, and the street houses several affordable restaurants, including Italian. Breakfast (strictly Continental, but delicious) is served until the civilized hour of 11; staff seemed uniformly pleasant and accommodating. A fine place for business or pleasure; we would definitely return.

This was a great hotel located just 5 min walk from the train station. The staff was friendly and helpful and I was able to get into my room when I arrived at 11:00AM. The service and amenities were more than adequate for my brief stay and the price was very reasonable for a hotel in Zurich

I stayed one night in a single room. The location of the hotel is very convenient. Close to the train station and to the centre. My room was small and a bit old fashioned but general ok. But what annoyed me was the noise. There must have been a ventilation system close by because there was a constant sound in the room, as if someone hoovered next door. Together with the loud ticking of an in-built alarm clock, which couldn't be switched off, it drove me mad. Although I was on the 5th floor, the cigarette smoke of a person smoking outside made my room smell smoky, so I had to close my window. So overall I couldn't sleep well and I would not recommend this hotel unless you are willing to sleep with ear plugs. The breakfast was simple, bread rolls, croissant, tea/coffee, orange juice, marmelade, soft cheese. For an egg or anything extra you had to pay.

Spotless hotel in the most convenient position in a fairly quiet road. Reception and breakfast room staff helpful and welcoming. Small shower room/wc but adequate and clean. would have liked real cheese for breakfast rather than processed cheese but realise this helps reduce waste and keeps costs down, however for a 2 star city hotel it could be bettered. Following directions to find hotel was a little confusing for us. There are many exits from Zurich Hauptbahnhof so written instructions were not appropiate for the exit we used, but there are lots of large city maps around the station to put us on the right road. We were only in Zurich for a day and a half. This is not enough. We were surprised what a gem Zurich is, beautiful buildings, a magical lake and river flowing through the middle of Zurich, land maybe the best shopping street we have ever visited. Shops for everyone but no tack. Restaurants are expensive, but we found the restaurants in the departmental stores better value for good food and in very pleasant surroundings.

Even though I was provided with a 'non-smoking' room, the room has the distinctive smell of an ashtray. Was not able to sleep the whole night because of that. The reception also failed to informed us about breakfast; even though it was included our price. However, its very convenient from the train station for those who are on transit elsewhere and need to walking distance. Or else; i am sure there is a nicer place to stay in Zurich.

Stayed a total of 3 nights: first upon arriving in Zurich and then 2 nights at end of 2-week trip. Receptionist area welcoming, as well as staff who were gracious and extremely helpful (whatever the time of day or night). Maria bringing bags to room was a welcome reprieve; handled sister's BIG and heavy piece of luggage with a smile. elevator is small but does the job. When debated using taxi to airport because of broken luggage handle, young lady at front desk wisely suggested using shuttle bus service, savings us 30CF. Also had pointed out shortcut to train station area via Walchebrucke Bridge, and savings of Coop, grocery store just across street from Hauptbahnhof, to pick up food, drinks and even souvenirs. As we were economizing, it was appreciated. Location to Hauptbahnhof station (can see it from front of hotel), shops, restaurants and scenic downtown Zurich cannot be beat! Preferred route to hotel, even with broken luggage, was crossing Walchebrucke Bridge on right side, then a small street, and taking 10 or so steps (not very steep) to arrive directly in front of hotel. Initially took Bahnhof Bridge. Still arrived at hotel in minutes, but path entailed ever-inclining streets. Breakfast was standard fare of rolls with cheese/jellies, but filled us up just fine. Great coffee! 2-bed room small but clean and met our needs perfectly. Hotel and room provided features we desired. Internet access charge reasonable, much cheaper than internet cafés checked out. Quiet. Small step-down when entering room and another step-up into bathroom; same found in other older European hotels. 20 min walk to Lake is well worth it, wonderful shops and restaurants with spectacular view even on cloudy cold day in Nov. Trolleys plentiful and easily accessible near train station and along the way. Were very happy with our choice of Hotel Arlette.

We only stayed for one night, but were more than pleased with the accomodations. The rooms are small and spare (fairly normal by European standards) but very clean, with modern, updated bathrooms. The location is very convenient for walking through Zurich, especially the older district. And it's less than a five minute walk from the train station. Included breakfast was standard coffee, juice and pastries - but you do have the option of purchasing a more substantial meal. The coffee was wonderful!

The front office people were rude. When requested for help with directions, standard reply - look at the map! My room was ridiculously small (even if its for only 1). The staff at Hotel Arlette beim Hauptbahnhof far exceeded my standards. When my friend and I arrived in Zurich at 6:30 am after a trip on a night train with no sleep, the hotel receptionist made it possible for us to check in immediately (even though check-in time wasn't until early that afternoon), at no extra cost to us. The staff suggested things to do and see, places to eat, and how to get to the place our tour met. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone that is staying in Zurich. Not only is the hotel very clean and comfortable, the staff is an exceptional group of people!!

We are visitors from Hong Kong. I've booked this hotel by website and the room confirmation was very quick (just a few minutes). On 21 Apr 2007, when 6 of us reached the hotel lobby, the gentlement at the reception greeted us gently. The impression is so good :P and so long I have missed. Also, the beau old lady here is very nice and helpful. The double and twin rooms are tidy, comfort + LCD TV and not so small. The building has a small lift. Also, the hotel has internet services (with charges not expensive) at their lobby. Moreover, the hotel location is very near the Zurich train station (just 5-10mins walk), near Banuhofstrasse and near streets for foods. Many choices for u. I'd liked the one (Italian food), just a few blocks next to the hotel..you can order mussels and ice-cream there. But, one thing I would like to remind you is that the large map on the website gives a wrong picture of the hotel's location. Instead, you can use the small map to go there. Finally, I would like to mention is their breakfast. It is good to have foods prepared by person with heart..each have 3 types of breads(warm),juice + drinks served. Oh! full of energy in the morning! Next time, if I go to Zurich, I will definitely choose this hotel again. Thanks.

For Zurich, which is an expensive place to stay, this is good value for money. It is about 5 minutes walking from the train station, just across the river, and it is less than 10 minutes from the bar/restaurant area that is also across the river from the main CBD. The room was small but functional, a little drab in coloring, but perfectly adequate. Service was efficient and my needs and requests were always met. For the price a very good and centrally located choice. The two small drawbacks were the breakfast, which just consists of rolls, spreadable cheese, butter and jam and your choice of a pot of coffee/tea/hot chocolate. That's the smallest breakfast I've gotten at a hotel in Switzerland. Just be aware of that when you go if you like and expect a big breakfast (additional things are available at extra charge). Also, I made use of the wireless internet (10 EUR for 3 hours, so well-priced), but after one day where it worked well, its performance deteriorated and it ended up locking my computer. The people downstairs did refund me my money. I did use the internet station downstairs (5 EUR per login) but the machine was very slow. Neither of these are major drawbacks, just things to be aware of if you stay here. By the way, the wireless internet service offered is a fairly standard offering in Europe so it's possible that this service is not good, or that the service was just having a bad day.

A quiet little gem... the room was a bit small but very clean and had everything I needed. There is a public internet available for only 5 franks, the breakfast (continental) very adequate..
