Clean, modern and comfortable smallish rooms. Excellent breakfasts. Really well located for the old town, shopping and art gallery. Syaed here twice and would choose the Altstadt every time.

Living on the outskirts of Zurich, we decided to stay in town for my birthday, as did a small group of friends. The rooms were quite small, but very clean and comfortable. Unfortunately, although I booked four months in advance, there were no double beds available in the category. Overall, an enjoyable stay and I would recommend the Altstadt.

Switzerland is expensive there is no way of getting away from it, so for a hotel in the very centre of the old town this seemed 'fair' value. When we were there there was work being carried out so the whole front of the building was covered with scaffolding - and that included our room. On one afternoon we had no electricity in our room for 2 - 3 hours but it was back by the time we came back in the evening. Overall judgement - fine hotel for short stay. Very clean and functional. Doesn't really feel like a hotel but more a rented room - no effective reception area. Real plus is the location which is really in the heart of the old town and not far from the train station (a tram ride away) - useful if you are traveling by train or plane and have luggage. Good breakfast too but breakfast room rather impersonal. For a short stay before we caught our plane back to UK it was just fine.

This was our first time at the Hotel Alstadt and we would definitely return, as well as recommend it to others. Our room was above the street so it was noisy at times. Located near the train station, an easy tram ride to the hotel. Staff very friendly and helpful. Great stay in a terrific city!!

The location of this hotel is fantastic - right in Old Town and walking distance to most everything in the city, including the main train station. The room was very clean and plenty of room. The bar area downstairs was nice but often smoky - not unlike most bars in Zurich. Staff were helpful and polite. It is a bit expensive, but considering the cost of everything else in Zurich, it wasn't bad.

There is a shuttle bus from and to the airport which is very convenient. From the airport - City Bus zone 4. From the hotel you need to ask the stuff about the timetable. The rooms are nice and clean. The only problem is the noise from the street in the evening. There is cable i-net in the rooms /20 Swiss franks for 24 hours used time/. The hotel is in a very good location for sightseeng, shopping and business. There is a very good Italian restorant nearby. I'm pleased with my choise of this hotel.

Our room was decorated with art about silence...that was the only silence we experienced. trams, cars, cleaners, people, one sleepless night. service and employees very nice. hotel did not answer out expectations.

Room was clean, quiet and downright spacious. Very good breakfast included in price of room. Downsides: Wired-only Internet has per hour fee and smoke rises up to non-smoking room from downstairs bar.

The staff is friendly and helpful. The breakfast facility is well stocked with fruit, juices, cereals, sliced meats and cheeses, and a variety of breads, and tea-making and coffee-making equipment. A computer is available for a fee, to allow you to check email, etc.

Light, bright and airy room with nice bath - very modern with great artwork on the walls. Right in the middle of Old Town easy walk to river and nearby sites. Wonderful area of town! Breakfast was good with a variety of foods. Only issue was noise of footsteps in rooms above and next to owing to the hardwood floors (but that was taken care of with earplugs!)

Beautiful, pristine, environmentally sensitive city and unbelievably expensive so even a modest hotel, like this one, is very dear. Breakfast was delicious, Swiss museli and the rest. Lovely walking through the old parts of town nearby.

A very nice hotel with beautiful surroundings in the charming, quiet, old town part of Zurich, close to the bank of the Limmat river. Simple, but delicious breakfast, very helpful and kind staff, exceptionally clean rooms. Close to major sights and shopping streets; public transport is excellent. Had a wonderful time there and would definitely stay here during future stays in Zurich.

Good location, a little hard to locate in the hire car as it is in a narrow laneway - cobblestoned. Lovely hotel, nice staff. Close to old town.

Great value and location. In room 15 there was even a TV in the bathroom! Right in the old town there is lots to see and great restaurants right on the doorstep. If you intend visit Zurich by car don't use this hotel, otherwise it rates very well, We would not hesitate to use it again.

While the location seems good, the noise from the nearby trams (2 every 5 minutes until about 1 a.m. is extremely loud. The room was the smallest of the 14 hotels we used while in Europe even though it was not the least expensive.

Very nice, clean and charming room. Well disposed furnitures allow for a spacious feeling and sense of practicality, despite the size of the room which is average. Only negative point, there is no free wifi in the room. Overall, a very nice stay for the price in Zurich.

The hotel was in an excellent location, however the room was extremely small and there was no air conditioning. And the night we were there was a local festival, so when we opened the windows we heard every drunk person in town singing until 5am, so did not get a good night's sleep at all. The hotel would have been fine if the weather hadn't been so warm.

We spent 3 nights at the Altstadt Hotel and were very pleased with what we got. Although the room was not too spacious and the street cleaning activities early in the morning kept us from sleeping, we still enjoyed our stay. One is really right in the centre of everything (shopping, restaurants, galleries, monuments) and it is all within walking distance. Very pleasant ambiance. We would choose it again!

The hotel was great, in a fabulous place within the old town. The room was good, breakfast was nice and the litle bar in the hotel was lovely. My only issue was that although my room was non smoking, people in rooms close to mine must have been smoking and at night the room stank of cigarette smoke, which I found really horrible.

The location was superb! The weather was lousy, otherwise it would have been lovely to walk in the neighbourhood. The hotel provided us with the information we wanted, held baggage, etc. No frills, but excellent. Good breakfast.

This was one of the nicest hotels I have stayed in, as the staff couldn't have been any more personable or accomodating than they were. Each person did her job carefully and with a smile on her face - always! I would highly encourage everyone to enjoy their stay in Zurich even more by staying in this wonderful, old hotel in the very heart of the city.
