The hotel decor was tired and our room was tiny. We were amazed at how much was packed into such a small space. the en-suite was literally located in a space behind the headboard of the double bed in the room. The double bed was against the wall so one of us had to climb over the other to get in or out. The space around the other two sides measured around half a metre with the other funiture in the room. It was really only half a room in size and without air-conditioning and a small window which only opened a crack, the room was VERY warm and close. There was the option of an old fan but this was noisy and only moved the warm air around.

Why should it be difficult to get a formal meal without ordering a long time in advance. We were residents and should have been able to get a meal with 30 mins notice. Television blaring in Public places watched only by staff is not good enough

Checking in on arrival reception only had 1 room reserved not 2 as booked.Cost of breakfast was too much per person in my opinion.Drinks at the bar also too dear and the beer/lager we requested not working on draught.Also tried serving us a cheap vodka as opposed to Smirnoff which was costly.When we booked out they overcharged us for rooms which was corrected before we left.

We only stayed for the one night but had a wonderful and relaxing break. The spa and health facilities were superb and we would highly recommend The Royal York to all of our friends and colleagues.The only downsides (and they are only minor!) were the cost of parking and our request by telephone for more milk and sugar went unheeded.Otherwise thank you for an excellent stay.

Although main hotel looked excellent we were put into the annex which was a great disappointment. Although we were charged full rate the annex was a big let down to the actual hotel. Breakfast was not included in the price and at £15 per person we felt this was steep to say the least. We would return to stay if in the main hotel.
