Hotel Lombardy - Washington

This hotel is located within walking distance from the Mall and all the museums. The staff are friendly and helpful. It is near a Metro station. And for women travelling solo I found it safe to walk around.

Quirky and fun hotel -- must have once been a large boarding house -- in a great location, half-way between the White House and Georgetown. Easy walking distance to anything on the Mall west of the White House and Dupont Circle. Good access to Metro. Zero view from the back rooms (unless you want to look into the offices about 15 feet away), but clean and quiet. Could use a new rug, however. Staff is most helpful and friendly, especially the chaps who work the manual (!) elevator. Good value for moderate price in an expensive area.

This was my fist time in Washington DC. I stayed 8 nights at the Lombardy hotel. The staff was nice and very helpful with all the inquiries I had. It is an old hotel that has been renovated, the lift (it dates from the period the hotel was first built ) can be very noisy if your room is close by ( as was mine, but it did not bother me much since I was out all day and i liked the fact that it was operated by a concierge). My room had no view, but was clean and spacious. I appreciated the healthy breakfast (pricey though) and the good quality of tea bags they offer. I will definitely go back to this hotel if I get again a good deal on the room.
