Pros; it is centrally located and well priced Cons:we stayed in the quad room and found it to be the very small, stuffy and it smelled of sewer. It was a hot day and there were no fans or air conditioning and windows could not be opened due to the smell. The room had an air conditioning motor next ot the window that was noisy all night. Overall: I would not recommend the quad room . Maybe the odubles are better.

Very basic forniture inside the room, no fridge, small tv, but comfortable beds and good cleaning. Simple self-service breakfrast and good attached restaurant. Do not expect outstanding facilities, but consider Hotel Nazionale as a nice accomodation if you are looking for a hotel right in town, 30 seconds far from the main square, with good prices.

What a well-positioned hotel for a short stay (2 days in our case). Right out the door, there was an Internet cafe at a bar, and only a few blocks away, after the main piazza, there was a brand-new self-service laudromat. (By the time we arrived in Volterra, we were desperate to do laundry - so what a find!!!) Volterra was very relaxing. Not only would we like to return to Volterra, we would also stay at the Nazionale for its strategic location.

My family went to Volterra to take in a real taste of Italy. The hotel is in a great location to see the city. We had a family room and it was large enough so that we all felt comfortable. The bathroom was huge and much appreciated.

Location of hotel is great and parking is quite easy in the public car park. Rooms were OK but bathrooms disappointed. Very low water pressure in shower (no bath) and no hot water at one point. Fine for a one night stay but would not recommend longer unless bettre rooms and bathrooms available. Overall service not bad.

An ordinary nice stay in as hotel very well situated. However, the night portiere was very little welcomming, almost rude, may be caused by the problems I had due to parking the car and unloading it. But this should be of no surprise. If you arrive by car you should be aware that you can drive to the doorstep to unload, but the parking space is in the middle of traffic an not well suited. The parking is a public and underneath the piazza onto where you drive to reach the historic centre and th e hotel. This is not well explained in the information given at venere.com.

Great location. Internet cafe across the street can cause noise late at night, but a room in back would stop this. Hotel was as advertised, and beautifully located, less than 50 meters from reasonable parking, and about ten steps from the central piazza. We'd stay here again.

Great location in medieval palazzo 1 minute from the main square but this was clearly a hotel that catered for passing tourist trade. We never saw the same person in reception twice although most were reasonably efficient, if not particularly friendly. The breakfast was not bad for Italy, but the waitress serving it was downright rude and from the stroke of 9.30 the buffet items were systematically removed from the table. The rooms at the front on the 3rd and 4th floors have small balconies and good views but are also noisy until late at night as there is a major hang-out bar below. Our companion had a single room which was extremely basic with formica furniture and a curtained alcove for a wardrobe.

I write in spanish. Altamente recomendado.

Excellent location in central Volterra, 2 minutes from the central square. Car parking (pay) very close. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the rooms light clean and spacious and the plumbing fine. Good breakfasts, and the evening meal we had was fine too. Excellent value for money, much more comfortable than a Tuscan hotel we used on the same holiday at three times the price.

The front desk was extremely helpful with all the questions we had. The stay and the breakfast were fine. Thanks for the capuccino. The only problem we had was with parking. Wish the information was a bit clearer. We had to juggle with illegal parking/unloading and keep an eye on the forever present police. Front desk was helpful in pointing us to a place to park.

We were very pleased with the hotel which fully met all our expectations. The position is very good (although car parking is in a public paying carpark so not ideal). The view from our bedrooms and balconies was outstanding. The rooms were spacious and clean and the breakfast and service good. We would definitely recommend it to other visitors. (No photograph or map on the website as far as I recall so no comment on this possible.)

The hotel is in an excellent location for a visit to Volterra, as part of the old town. The room was pleasant with a small balcony overlooking the old streets, a square, and the countryside. The staff were helpful and welcoming. It might be helpful to other tourists to point out the parking problems in Volterra. There is one underground parking garage near the old town and very near the hotel. By accident we arrived late in the afternoon and got space immediately in the parking garage. Anyone arriving late morning or early afternoon in the tourist season is likely to have a problem parking the car anywhere near the hotel.

Volterra is a lovely hilltop town and well worth a visit, and the Nazionale would certainly be one of the best places to stay there. Fantastic location, lovely and clean with a massive bathroom. We drove from here on to San Gimignano and it was a great start to a brilliant holiday. Only complaint was that we weren't expecting to have to pay for car parking, which was 10 euros per night. Also the lift was quite a squeeze!
