The hotel is in a nice location, 5 mins walk from Stephendom and the Metro station. The male receptionists on evening duties are helpful and friendly. Please read carefully the room type before you book; I didn't, got a "bath in room/WC on floor" room instead and had to top up EUR20/per for the toilet in room. On the day of check-in, I told the lady I will pay in full. I waited at least 10 mins for her to work on the amount, paid, and received a receipt for 0 outstanding and 0 balance. On the day of check-out, I was shocked when I was asked to pay another EUR12.08. The male receptionist was not able/or rather did not bother to explain why there is this additional amount. I didn't mind paying but I can't stand his rude attitude and he embarrassed in-front of the other patrons by saying very loudly, "NO! NO! NO! YOU OWE US EUR12.08"; The breakfast area was just next to the reception counter. I didn't want to argue with him because I have two luggage which I need to leave with them for 8 hours.

The hotel is in need of a makeup, and the price a bit high. WiFee was said to be included, but did not reach the rooms. The location close to Stephanplatz is excellent.

The staff was helpful and nice. Breakfast was good but needs variety. One problem we faced is when opening the windows we hear too much street noise. The hotel cleanness was not as expected and the furniture was very old.

Great location, clean , nice, elevator to 2nd floor where it is located. Driving and parking in Vienna is very difficult due to so many one-way streets and lack of parking on the streets. Toilet was down the hall from the room. Shower & sink were in the room. No air conditioning but windows that open. Good breakfast.

Vanskelig å finne hotell døra første gang. Perfekt plassering hvis du ikke har bil. Store behagelige rene rom. Trådløst nett fungerer dårlig på rommet, men tilgjengelig maskin i gangen. Støy fra gata om morgenen hvis du liker å ha oppe vinduet om natten. God frokost og hjelpsom betjening.

Fantastic location. Nice, very clean rooms. The staff couldn't have been more lovely and helpful. We had to extend our stay due to a medical emergency and then cut our holiday short and return home. All the staff did everything they could to help us with information, transport and to make us as comfortable as possible. Many thanks to all at Pension Neuer Markt, Vienna.

Besides the hotel's excellent location, I'd like to highlight the politeness, warmth and helpfulness of its entire staff. Each and every of them did always their very best to help my wife and me during our stay in Vienna. The quality of their services was fantastic. I felt at home and will highly recommend the hotel to my family and friends.

The location is perfect, but the room had very thin walls. We could listen to the conversations in the next room and the toilet flushing every time. It also needs some renewing, because it looks a little old. The staff was very helpfull.

The Pension is no hotel. It is a flat in an old building perfectly located in the very heart of Vienna but has not the appearence nor the services of a hotel. We liked being there it is very "familiar" but we expected a four star hotel wichi is not. The personned does everything to make you feel at home, just to give an example the shuttle service to and from the airport the Pension provide was driven to the airport by "the boss" in the early morning when leaving.

Great location -- just a minute or two by foot from St. Stephens Square, one cannot do much better in that regard. The Pension Neuer Markt is just two floors of a larger building and getting to the lobby (one floor above the street level and down a somewhat sinuous hallway) is a little difficult to find. The little bit of searching, however, is worth it. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the rooms, while a tad small, are extremely clean and well taken care of. The breakfast service was very nice, as well. We were checking out the same day we were attending a gala performance of the Spanische Reitschule (just a few blocks away, as well), and the desk allowed us to keep our baggage there until the performance was over. In short -- we LOVED the Pension Neuer Markt and recommend it highly. Thank you for adding to our lovely stay in Wien!!

This is an excellent hotel. The room was large and clean. the staff was very friendly and helpful, and all spoke English. However the best feature is the location---1/2 block from Stephenplatz. In poche parole, ci tornerò volentieri!

This pension is perfectly located for the sight-seeing visitor. lots of interesting shops and restaurants within easy walking. this was our first trip to Vienna, so we made use of the hotel-arranged pick up. a bit pricey but the driver was friendly and had waited for us when our incomig flight was almost an hour behind schedule. It was a nice way to enter Europe. the hotel entrance is slightly tricky, with a small sign over the metal door from the side street. there is a narrow hallway to traverse with the luggage before reaching the elevator and stairs. Cage elevator takes you to another hallway with an automatic door that opens to another hallway to the front desk, which sits at the entrance to the small restaurant where the buffet breakfast is eaten. staff is helpful. we inquired about moving our room, as our square-facing front room overlooked some street construction, but the smaller back room we were shown did not compare to the spacious front room, so we did our best to ignore the concrete work. the room was number 11 and had a king (two doubles pushed together) bed, 3 chairs, a sitting arrangement and vanity. in addition to the private bath with full tub. Breakfast was average but enough to get you out the door for a start on the city. a slightly qwirky hotel, but a very nice experience. would definitely stay here again.

The most fantastic breakfast in all of the hotels we were at in Germany, Austria, and Czech Republic. Loved the location, loved the little, old cage elevator, and loved the view of the streets. It was hard for us to find because we weren't looking up. We were looking for a hotel entrance on the ground floor. There is a locked entrance on the ground floor, but the check in desk is on the 2nd floor and you buzz to get entry.

The hotel had character and was a brilliant location to walk around the city centre. The staff were very accommodating and helpful and the pick up from the airport fantastic (it may have been a little difficult to find late at night if we had been taking public transport). Good location, reasonable price, good efficient transfer to/from airport, good breakfast. Room was clean and nice. Can't say enough about the help from the front desk. Patrick was so helpful and accommodating. The only downside, the room faced street with club, so it was very noisy all night and construction around the corner from hotel, but earplugs made it tolerable.

The price may have been competitive for Vienna, don't know, but for that price, the rooms should be airconditioned. Out first room opened out to the Neur Markt (and southern sun), but the window had to remain open to make it even close to bareable so then we had the noise. The staff graciously moved us to a room that opened onto the central airshaft which was much quieter and some cooler, but still not comfortable...and this was in Sept!!! Staff was great, breakfast...okay.

The hotel is situated in an old (but in excellent condition) building in the very heart of the city, between (and within walking distance to) major sites including concert hall, opera, countless excellent cafes and confectioneries (some just 40-60 meters away) and shopping areas. Rooms with courtyard windows are very quiet, we slept with open windows until breakfast preparation noise became a little bit annoying. It was first time we decided to stay in the room with shared toilet for the sake of an excellent location and were not disappointed -- it was clean and fortunately never busy.

Staff were great, location can't be beat, and the price was excellent for Vienna. The room was a bit small, but the real draw back was the noise at night. Our window faced the courtyard, and there was loud talking and noise from the bar or restaurant below at all hours. For us though it was a small price to pay for such convenience and value.

Pension Neuer Markt had an excellent location very close to Stephensdom! However we did not like the doors. Ours did not seem to lock but when we complained the receptionist said it was self locking. It would have been helpful to be shown how to get to our room and if the firedoor actually could open and how to lock/unlock each door. The room was tiny and hot. Transport to the airport was excellent.

Great location, the staff is very nice and resolutive. The hotel is quite small, and the rooms also, so for the price paid it seems not good enough, however you will not find cheaper hotels in the area. It's a recommendable place, specially if you are only for 2-3 days, because the location is super convenient (metro stephansdome, direct connection to Wien Mitt where the fast train to airport, CAT, departs from) The breakfast is quite reduced, not much of variety. We had a room looking towards the newmarkt place, and it's not noisy, I'd recommend to request these rooms, the ones looking to the indoor patio might be kind of dark. The staff is very helpful and nice. They have a shuttle service to the airport for 12 euros, which makes it a very useful option specially if you arrive late (the CAT is 8/9 eur, plus the metro ticket 2 eur)

We are elderly visitors on a first visit to Vienna (3 days only. Next time longer?!) We were absolutely delighted with our choice of hotel (Chosen from Eye Witness Guide). The location is perfect for walking to places of interest and we found the staff to be pleasant and helpful at all times. The room we had,#14,is small but it did not matter because it was well and comfortably furnished, and it has a lovely outlook onto Neuermarkt Platz. We would not hesitate to recommend the Hotel Pension Neuermarkt to our friends. The only minor criticism we had was that on the first night we were disturbed by some guests in another room who came in late with a lot of laughter and loud voices. Apart from that,in our view the Hotel is perfect for those like us who do not like large impersonal hotels. During our stay the staff helped us to book a dinner and concert package (Imperial Orchestra) which was excellent.

Travelled with my husband for visit to the Opera. As I expected snow wanted to be near it. There was snow but only a little. We had a very nice room overlooking the square. We arranged a transfer from the airport as I have mobility problems (they do have a lift). I paid the driver but apparently I learnt on leaving I should have paid at reception as it was on the bill. There was no problem and the cost was taken off the bill.

We had arranged with Hotel Pension Neuer Markt to be picked up at the airport and they were waiting for us after we cleared customs. The service at the Pension was excellent. We have a house in the "Steiermark" and go there approx. 3x per year. Usually, we take the car with us (by train), but never went there during winter time. As we got a very attractive flight offer from Zurich to Vienna, we took the chance and flew to Vienne and decided to spend at 1,5 days in Vienna. We knew the hotel from earlier stays and found it always very good (well located, nice staff etc.).

The location of this place was practically perfect, right next to the city centre and 20 seconds from the underground! Overall a great place to see Vienna from and staff at the hotel were first class!

You cant beat the location of the hotel or the customer service. However, the beds are hard, the rooms are small and the showers are waist high. Good for single people traveling across Europe, wouldnt recommend as a 4 star hotel though.

I took my grandson to Vienna for his first time and we had a wonderful trip. We liked being right in town. We also loved the Opera.

This property turned out to be a bit of a disappointment. The location is fantastic but the building is a bit grim, with a dingy and unwelcoming entrance hall. To gain entry you have to use the intercom, and then take the lift to the 3rd floor. The interior of the pension is garish and institutional - it looks like the walls have been covered in formica, with gold trim and chintzy lights to complete the effect. The staff were very friendly and helpful on check-in. The room itself was spacious but quite basic - two old wooden beds, a couple of armchairs and a portable television. The bathroom was small but quite acceptable. The biggest disappointment was breakfast - plentiful, but not particularly high quality, and served in a gloomy, cramped area alongside the reception. Nothing about it made us want to linger longer than necessary. Overall, this is a reasonably-priced property in an excellent location but does not have much else that can be recommended.

An older establishment, the room was surprisingly large and spacious; the location is wonderful - a quiet side street just off the main old downtown walking street. I traveled as a single woman and felt perfectly safe. Very close to antiques shopping, too (bonus!). Very easy access to everything, and I felt well cared for as a guest of this pensione. My first experience with a pensione rather than a hotel, and it was not fancy, but was just fine. I would recommend this one to those who aren't so concerned with luxury, but want a nice spacious place to stay in Vienna. Nice staff.

The price will seem a little high for the room you are getting, but in Vienna it is all about location and the location of the Neuer Markt is fantastic. Could not have asked for a better location. The room was a dated and showed wear, but it was clean the the employees were fantastic. Would certainly stay here again.

We stayed 3 nights in Vienna for pleasure. The entrance was not easliy located and the check-in was on the 3rd floor. Great location, a little noisy at night and in the morning, but overall a very nice place to stay.

The rooms in this hotel were tiny. The location is excellent but that is about all teh hotel has in its favour. The corridors are too narrow for two people with bags to pass each other on. There isn't enough room to bend down in teh shower. We also found cigarette ash on our bed linen. The staff are helpful and good with advice on places to see. The cold meats at breakfast aare nice but the coffee is vile. I would only recommend this place for a one night stay if you had to be right in teh middle of teh city. If you have luggage for more than one night the bedroom would be crowded.

My wife and I stayed at Pension Neuer Markt on recommendation of Venere.com. We were more disappointed than this review can communicate. The pension's location is the best thing I can say, but there are many other accomodations in the area that are cleaner, larger and provide better services. The room we were given was outdated and uninspiring. It was extreamly small and the door barely opened before it hit the side of the 2 twin beds pushed together. No airconditioning. Our room windows opened to an atrium. Our view: into someone else's room. No air circulation. Luckily we checked in during while other rooms were being cleaned, and the maid gave us a fan. Without it, I would have checked out after the first night. The walls were paper thin and you could hear the couple in the next room talking. You could feel the vibration in the floor as people walked by the room. The bathroom was clean, although very small. This is not a place to stay if you want to enjoy Vienna. While we were out touring the city, I dreaded our return to this pension. That's not the way to have a vacation. The breakfast was adequate if you like bread and cereal. There was cold meat and cheese and canned fruit, no fresh fruit or vegetables. The coffee was pretty decent.

Great location right off the main square. Room was tiny, but that was to be expected. The only complaint was that during a heat wave in Vienna, we had the windows open and there was NO cross breeze/air and it was almost impossible to sleep. We didn't expect A/C of course - but a breeze would have been nice. Also, if your room is off the breakfast area, you might get a bit of the smokiness drifting in.

Globally, we are happy whith this hotel. One black point is the noise. We hear everything from one room to another one. TV sound in the rooms is not automatically limited. First night, it has been impossible to sleep before 3am.

The rooms are a little small and it is a bit of a pain having to go out of your room to the toilet (there is a shower in the room though) but they are adequate enough and if you're paying around 80 Euros for a room in the heart of Vienna you can't complain too much about such things and you definitely ought not be expecting much more! The location is fantastic - a few steps to Stephansdom and the Graben. The breakfast is adequate - meats and cheeses, cereals and tinned fruits, but the staff will make you coffee and eggs if you ask. The reception desk speak good English. There is a bit of a smokey smell in the hotel and the decor is an odd faded pink colour but again, it's 80 Euros in the heart of Vienna - if you're expecting the Ritz you're dreaming! Perfectly, perfectly fine.

We arranged to be picked up at the airport by the hotel which was only 10E per person. They were waiting for us at the airport and from then on everything was perfect. The rooms are a little dated and could do with some freshening up but other than that this hotel is highly recommended. The location is perfect. We only had 3 days but managed to cover most of Vienna on foot. The hotel is right in the middle of everything and the staff were so friendly and incredibly helpful. We would definitely stay here again.

We found the staff at the hotel to be very friendly and accomodating. However, our room had an interesting smell and the bed was VERY HARD and uncomfortable. While we had a nice view, because it overlooked a busy street it was quite noisy and we could hear people in other rooms as well. The electrical outlet in our watercloset did not function, but the hotel was able to provide a hairdryer (that was nice). The pillows were a complete waste, there was no FLUFF to them. While we enjoyed the location and the people, we found the room itself to be less than satisfactory.

Old, nice, very central. Literally around the corner from Stephansdom and Metro Red LIne. About 2 blocks from the Hofburg. We initially stayed one night(March 19, 2006), booked jsut a few days in advance. Our DBL had no W/C but a sink and shower(as was quoted, due to availability.) It was very quiet--the window opened out to a courtyard. Our second stay(March 23/24) was in a large DBL, with W/C, shower, sink, had two large windows and a balcony overlooking the Neuer Markt. Staff were extremely helpful when we needed train schedules and tram/metro help. Bfast was the typical European variety: meats, cheeses, rolls/bread, cereals, beverages. No weird surprises other than the size of the room's safe--tiny.
