That's my second stay here. Hotel is very clean, staff friendly. Breakfast is simple but good. Location in central Vienna is great, very close to the train station, right at Schwedenplatz tube station. One single bad thing: on the 5th floor I had no wifi in my room so I had to get up to the reception (8th floor) (close at 10pm).

worst experience ever. Dirty carpets, large spots in doors of room. Multiple unsightly scratches in all door frames. heating of water with gas burners located in the bathroom, creating risk of gas poisoning. Common toilette outside the room, contrary to what we were promised. And there were two extra beds in this room. I felt cheated of my money. I should not have paid or stayed but after trip so long we had no options. We stay only one night and found a much better place just a few steps away. How could you recommend this place? you have lost at least a client.

A basic pension type hotel located on the 8th floor of a block. The room was very basic and small but clean. Location is excellent for central Vienna, access to metro etc. I would recommend this hotel if you are travelling on a budget and are happy to accept no frills on room or services.

The location of this hotel is excellent. Even though it is in one corner of Central Vienna since the city centre is so small you are no more than 30 minutes walking distance from any of the major sites. The room itself was quite dated, but the mattress and all the bedding all looked and felt like brand new - so obviously the owners maintain the things that are really important. It is a cold breakfast but with lots of options - bread, buns, cheese, meat, cereal, yogurt, etc. Considering it is included in the price it was of relatively good quality. We did not have much interaction with the staff but when we did they were generally helpful - except the one working the night shift who told us we could book an airport transfer for Sunday. When we tried to book the transfer we were told they don't run on Sundays. Overall a very enjoyable stay. I would go back.

With no ceiling fan, air conditioning or any other possible way to create air flow, the room became rather warm and stuffy. With that said, reception was helpful in accommodating needs and was flexible with our check-in and check-out times. The location in the city was pretty convenient but and had convenient metro location. Breakfast was average and I would only recommend it if included in a low price.

Although the hotel is located in a very suitable place and close to almost all the sightseeing places, the decoration and the hotel itself is poor and not attractive. The price might be considered OK if you take into account the general price level of the hotels in Vienna, on the other hand since Vienna has an excellent transport facilities one can easily stay at a much better hotel at the same price a bit far from the center.

The location is very convenient for public transport; the Schwedenplatz station, a couple of mins walk from the pension, is well situated for connections in most directions by tram & underground. We were in Vienna in very hot (well over 30 deg C daytime) weather, and without air conditioning, sleep was very uncomfortable, as the room itself was probably never cooler than about 25C. Beds were also firm to hard, which didn't help. Our room faced an inner courtyard, and although we were on the 5'th floor, the sound of wheelie bins being emptied/moved around in the yard at about 7am was a regular occurrence. Might not matter so much if the windows were closed in cooler weather. We didn't notice any noise from adjoining rooms or the corridor during our stay. Despite some disadvantages, this is probably about as good as it gets for budget-price "hotel" accommodation this close to inner-city Vienna. We used the pension's car pick-up service from Vienna airport which was easily arranged, for a fair price, worked well and was convenient for our late arrival time. The clean & bright breakfast room was attractive, but the breakfast itself was rather boring, with no variety (or fresh fruit) over the 4 days of our stay. Staff were welcoming, informative and helpful, and we got the impression they were trying hard to help guests to have a pleasant stay despite some shortcomings of the premises.

It is an old building and an old decoration !!! But it is quiet, the price is good (for this expensive city) and it is so close from all the main attrations in the Old City Center of Viena or from bus and underground, that in the end, you quikly forget the "old and unfashioned" part of it ! The staff is nice and they speak english. They are helpful if you need; Breakfast is not the best I had but it is cool that is it included... Its best point is its location.

Dr. Geissler Pensione is by far the best value in all of Vienna. All other hotels offering this level of service cost twice as much or more. Healthy breakfast is included. Express bus to/from the airport is a 5-10 minute walk. Staff was very accomodating and allowed me to change arrival day with no penalty. Half-flight of stairs before you reach the elevator. Internet access would've been nice, but what more could you ask for...

The first room we were given was one of the smallest ever & the toilet was malfunctioning, though we were told it was fine. Finally we were offered an alternative: a suite which was a much better size. The set up was unusual in that the toilet room had no sink- that was in the tub room.

For the money the location was great. We were ready to use public transport but ended up walking everywhere such was the size of the city (well the bits we wanted to see ) and the location of the Dr. A little 10 minute walk to St Stephen's church. Dr Geissler as a pension was fine. We had a twin with ensuite. The decor was a bit dated but it served it's purpose perfectly (towels provided too). The breakfast wasn't anything to write home about - some rolls and the typical cold meats & tasteless cheese. But we did had juice and coffee which was a good starter for 10. The staff were very pleasant indeed. We arranged a transfer to and from the airport which worked out well. I'm sure public transport would have been up to the job but laziness and ease justified the taxi's. I would definitely reccomend this for people on a budget prefering practicality and convenience over 4 star expensive luxury. I went with my brother-in-law and it was spot on - being close to some good bars certainly helped!

The location is superb - very close to metro and central city. The basics are there (room small but adequate), but I would have liked a little more warmth from the staff - they were polite without being particularly welcoming. As a single traveller I would have liked a little more friendliness and conversation. I also found the walls to be very thin and could hear the person in the next room playing computer games which appeared to involve a lot of shooting - a little frustrating late at night when I was trying to sleep.

You can actually walk back from the center of the city. The staff were nice. The brekfast was pretty good for the price that you will be paying to stay in Vianna. I would recommend it. Keep in mind that this is a building with office and other resident, it seems to be they rent a few floor for this type of business, hotel.

This pension is a very good choice. Clean comfortable rooms, though rather small. But Vienna is not a city to stay in your room. Service is correct. Only breakfast is a bit boring, the same sandwiches every morning, though you can eat as much as you like from the small buffet. Located at 2 minutes walk from U-bahn Schwedenplatz an ideal base to explore town. At night you might hear some of the youngsters going out in the streets close by. Overall, good value for the price. Our room was very small, but we were in it very little. Great location, close to transport and city centre. For the price, we would stay there again if in Vienna. The one tiny lift can be frustrating. If the bedroom window was left open, it was noisy outside, especially late Saturday night from a nearby nightclub. It was no problem with the window shut. However, like many hotels in Europe, the room was too warm, and it would have been preferable to be able to have the window open.

We booked this hotel based on reviews from this site and we really enjoyed our stay here. Location is excellent for visiting Vienna and the street is quiet but close enough to bars and restaurants and metro (5 min by foot max). The decor probably needs updating - however, the beds have fantastic mattresses and one of the longest baths (at least in our room) that I´ve ever seen. The breakfast is very simple (but have had worse in Vienna). Considering the price, I think you get at least what you pay for if not a little more and we would definitely stay in this hotel again.

V good location for the price. V near bus from airport, underground and bike rental. Access fine once we'd got used to the lift. First room offered was unacceptable because of lack of security and privacy (glass door, shared access). Second room OK but opposite reception so noisy in mornings. But great view. Good value for money.

This accommodation is very closed to U bahn to centre in Wienna and to train centrale statione. I can to recommend this to all travellers , even to business partners. Rooms are smaller, but clean. Breakfast is good and delicious. I would like to come back some time when I would like to visited Wienna again.

We stayed in Vienna and at the hotel for four nights - as we wished we foud an affordable hotel in the very center of the city. The rooms, service and facilities of the hotel were not of a very high standard, but in no way less than what he had expected. We were quite satisfied wiht the hotal and would recommend it to any budget travellers.

Very nice B&B. The hotel staffs are extremely nice and helpful. The breakfast is excellent! We rent a room without bathroom. We had to go to a different floor to take a shower, which is little inconvenient. Otherwise, it is a great place to stay for the $ you spend.

Room was fine, but carpet was old and dirty. Shower was three floors away, so that was pretty inconvenient. Overall though, the staff was very helpful and the rest of the rooms that we saw seemed to be in a lot better shape than ours.

The rooms have no air conditioning, so they get a bit hot. The police station is only 1 block away, and there is a large post office just across the street, so you light sleepers will have a problem with noise from the sirens and the truck engines. There is no Internet access available at all, and the Internet Cafe across the street charges 2 Euro/hour. In our room, at least, the toilet room always had a smell of sewage. If we forget to leave the door open, the next time you went into the room the smell was overpowering. The breakfast was nice, and the employees were always friendly and helpful. The location -- right in district 1 -- is very close to a subway station, and only a 5 minute walk to Stevensplatz. The Statdpark is only a few minutes walk from the hotel also. The room I stayed in (210) was very spacious and comfortable. If they offered any type of Internet access, and a water boiler in the rooms, it would have been excellent!

If you are not posh, it is a very good accomodation. My room was not spacious but large enough to stay comfortable. Breakfast was not big deal but ok. The location is very central and close to the metro and bus to the airport.

The rooms are huge and spacious and well presented for a budget hotel. Walking distance to centre of Vienna and easy access to public transport. The only small annoyance was that the shower was 4 levels up from our room and we had to go to reception and get the key anytime we wanted to use it, oh and the milk with breakfast was warm. But all in all a great cheap hotel :)

My stay at Dr. Geissler between 1 to 3 Jun 2007 was a pleasant one. The room is relatively small but clean. Although WC was located outside the room, it was ok and most importantly it was clean. The property is located very near Schwedenplatz in a relatively safe and friendly neighbourhood. However, “How to reach the property” did not make it easy to locate the property. Get off at Schwedenplatz, there is other exit nearer to the property. Think the exit is called Schwedenplatz (there is a pizza take-away near the exit). Urania exit cannot be found in the station and one has to ask for direction from station staff. After taking the exit Urania, “continue straight ahead” (with the Danube on your left). This actually meant after coming out of exit Urania, cross the road at the immediate traffic junction (about 2 to 3 steps from exit). “With Danube on your left” was not helpful either as it is a long river. We ended up much further ahead at about 200m away as instruction was “continue straight ahead”. Wasted close to 20 minutes looking for the property. Perhaps Dr Geissler could review their write up on “How to reach the property”.

Very nice pension, clean and with pleasant staff. The location is excellent in the city center and close to public transport. The only discrepancy is that the shared bathroom was not in the same floor as our room.

the room was clean, it was easy to find the pension because it's very very close to the u-bahn station and about 5 min. on foot to the centre of vienna!! only regret: we hadn't the bath in the room, but it had been not a problem for us, we were almost alone on the floor

The room sounded wonderful when we booked it. It was beautifully clean and spacious, and only ten minutes' walk from the centre. However in a rash moment we had elected not to have an en suite bathroom. The procedure at bathtime was: Take the lift from the second to the eighth floor to collect the key. Go back down to the fifth floor to unlock the single bathroom; Bathe; Take the key back up to the eighth floor and return to the second floor. This was not ideal. We also found it daunting when we arrived at the front door with our very heavy luggage to find that we had to carry them up a flight of stairs to the lift before proceeding to reception on the eighth floor.

Very impressed with the accommodation for the price that was paid - location was 5 minutes walk from Stephansplatz and 5 minutes walk from airport bus drop off. Staff were very welcoming and helpful with lots of hints about locations of Weihnachtsmarkts etc. There is a little pub around the corner from the hotel which serves very late if your night ends too early:)

The Pension Dr. Geissler is perfectly located for all those travelling to Vienna via airplane. From the airport there is a direct bus stopping at about 200 meters from the Hotel. The entrance to the subway station Schwedenplatz with U1 and U4 connections is only 50m away. But the sights of the City can also easily be reached on foot. The rooms are not very big but offer everything you need just to have a place to sleep and have breakfast in Vienna. The staff is friendly and the quality of the breakfast is okay. Unfortunately, they only serve Continental breakfast. The Pension Dr. Geissler is a good choice for all those who do not want to spent all their money on the accomodation, but who prefer to spend it on the museums and theatres of the City. A Pension for all those still young at heart who are used to travel without any luxury.
