Not sure why this hotel is rated so high, especially for cleanliness of rooms! The Hotel leaves much to be desired. The rooms could have been much cleaner. There was very little attention to detail, and minimal service provided by the part-time staff. The location is in close proximity to the Opera and central (innerstrasse) Vienna, and it is one of the few completely non-smoking hotels in Vienna, however these are the only positive attributes for this hotel (pension).

This is a rather basic style of accomodation which offers excellent value as it is located right on the edge of Vienna city, only 10 minutes walk (for relatively slow walkers)to St Stephens Cathederal. So is close to any city attractions, or use the public transport systems that are very efficient. One drawback was the bed which was a futon style (very low to the floor and quite firm). If you have some mobility problems be aware of the the bed and the fact that they have no elevator and so you must carry your luggage up to the first floor reception. It is noted that the reception operation is manned part time, however the booking instructions advise you how to gain access without keys and you find the keys etc are awaiting on the reception desk. This issue represented no problem to the booking in process. The accomodation overall was roomy, clean and well presented, it does not claim to be a 4 or 5 star hotel, so what you see is what you get. It is still good value for money in Vienna. Breakfast was good quality and the dining room well presented. WiFi was available throughout the site.

This hotel is appropriate for mid-priced budgets. The entrance (hall and stairs to the first floor) and the lobby may be disappointing, but the rooms are large and pleasant, the staff are friendly and helpful, providing a family type atmosphere. The bathroom of our room was very clean, though small. The breakfast offered was perfect for us: pleasant and tasty, but it might disappoint big eaters. However, the main advantage of this hotel is it's location. It is located equa-distant between the Opera, Albertina and old city center, the museum Quarter and other large museums, and the nackt-markt where one finds many trendy bars and restaurants frequented by locals. The Karlsplatz metro station is one block from the hotel

Overall stay is pleasant, however, there is no refill of breakfast and its first come first serve. You may not have much to choose from if you are late for breakfast. Note that you have to carry your own bags up to the rooms as there is no elevator. Rooms are big and comfortable.

If you go for apartment it is worth to ask for more details on the place you will be given. we stayed in two different places, whose quality differed quite substantially, although we do have overall positive experience with the pension.

We stayed twice - each time in another apartment (the pension administers a number of apartments besides rooms in their seat). First time it was excellent - spacious rooms, very comfortable. just perfect. second time we were less satisfied - the flat had strange layout, - kitchen in the corridor and bathroom had windows to the hall of the building, so when we opened them (because the true windows were only on one side of the flat and it was extremely hot at that time) we felt like being heard in the whole house. But the owners of that apartment were very friendly and the pension really helpful, so even the second stay we keep in positive memory.

We enjoyed the freedom of renting an apartment , and the ability to set our own schedule and also do cooking for breakfast, The apratment was in a great location a ten minute walk from the major tourist sites, in a very quiet neigborhood, there was a market close by and a very good restaurant in the 1st floor of the building for lunch or dinner.

Very nice staff. a close walk to the downtown area. a washer, with hanging racks for laundry. overall very nice stay. maybe just get rid of the red couch- that is what one sees when you first enter and looks ratty. otherwise clean nice apartment and very spacious

We stayed in the apartment, which was just beautiful, it was very close to and within walking distance to all the tourist spots, there were many eating places around and a supermarket within 2 minutes walk. We were on the second floor, there is a lift so this was a welcome surprise. A great place to stay

The rooms were great and overall location good to all attractions. The problem is the entrance and steps leading to the pension. Plastic flowers, artifical grass, and over all looked pretty scary.

This questionnaire doesn't exactly apply as we stayed in one of their apartments rather than the hotel. It was an excellent accommodation and close to the subway. Arriving on Sunday in Vienna is a problem as most stores are closed including the grocery stores. The hotel is a bit hard to find as it has a small front opening on to a plaza (Rilke Platz) which is hard to find. Most people that we asked hadn't heard of it even though we were very close to it.

An easy 10 minute stroll into the centre along one road. There are also some beautiful buildings and churches very close to the Hotel Shermin. Don't miss Karlskirch. The owners of the Shermin are very friendly and helpful. Everything is spotless and the breakfast is good. I would recommend this hotel to all my friends.

We stayed 5 nights in the apartment (not the hotel). No breakfast or service, but extremely spacious, private and with all facilities, including washing machine! Good location, and probably the most comfortable and best of our accommodation in 5 weeks of Europe. Would definitely stay here again and would recommend.

Was very warm, functional, clean with very good buffet breakfast and staff who were eager to please. The room was quite large with sofa and reading chair in addition to the large bed, desk and armoire. Very good location, only 5 minutes walk from Opera House and 10 minute walk in other direction to the Belevedere.

We stayed in one of their apartments a few minutes away from the actual hotel. If you want a self catering apartment, a 10-15 minute walk from all the main sites in Vienna, this is it. There is a supermarket close by and the apartment was very comfortable- bedroom, living room, bathroom and small kitchen. For 2 adults and 2 teenagers it was perfect (sofa bed in living room used by teenagers, double bedroom by adults).

Well located, within easy walking distance to underground and supermarkets. An additional set of keys would be an improvement. An enjoyable stay!!

The hotel is about a 10-to-15-minute walk from major Vienna attractions, and only five minutes from the underground. The staff is one of the friendliest and most helpful we encountered during our trip. We are two sisters from Texas and had requested separate beds and promptly received an e-mail from the hotel that they would be able to handle our request. The staff goes out of its way to be helpful and make one feel very welcome. We highly recommend this wonderful little hotel right in the cultural heart of Vienna. Bring along the hotel's directions because taxi drivers have a difficult time finding the place.

This was the last of twelve hotels on our trip to eastern Europe. It was the best of all places in terms of: accomodations, host, location, and city ambiance. Vienna is a great city and the Hotel Shermin and Sophia the hostess made our stay an outstanding and memorable one. From providing us with maps and detailed directions, to arranging an evening performance of the symphony, Hotel Shermin was four stars.

Our only criticism was that the hotel is located in a maze of one-way streets and we spent 2 hours trying to find it by car! However, the family owners were extremely helpful and welcoming, once we arrived. It's in easy walking distance to the Opera and the other sights of Vienna.

Our first trip to Vienna, an amazing city. Staff at the Shermin were friendly, helpful and welcoming. We were driving from Prague and the pre arrival attention was excellent with comprehensive directions to hotel and parking while there. The shermin is situated ideally for exploring the city by foot although the tram system is fun and easy to use. For the price range the rooms were simple, clean and relatively spacious. Nice buffet breakfast. Perfect for a city stay and we would definately use the hotel again.

A quiet, pleasant, small hotel conveniently located close to the city centre offering a good range of choice for breakfast. I found the staff and manager very helpful and would recommend the hotel for anyone looking for good accommodation at a reasonable price.

The service was generally good and the staff very welcoming and helpful. My major complaint is that the room I was given had a window that opened onto a small service courtyard in the centre of the building. This meant that the room was very dark in the daytime, with a view of exctraction ducting, and got very little air circulation from outside.

We stayed in the apartment, which is not shown in pictures on the web site. It was excellent - clean, quiet, with no hidden extra charges, and for the centre of the city, very good value! Anyone else staying there should check out the ice cream parlour round the corner on the Hauptstrasse.

We stayed at the Hotel Shermin for 4 days. The proprietor was very attentive and helpful, and she took great pains to make sure that everything was satisfactory. Breakfast was unexpectedly good, with an excellent assortment of cold cuts, etc. The room was very large for an establishment of this category. The subway is 1 1/2 blocks from the hotel, and major sights are within walking distance. We plan to stay there again in the future.

This pension is great value for money. It's an older building but the furnishings are reasonably modern. Close enough to easily walk into town, and less than 5 mins walk to a u-bahn (metro) station and some sights. Above all else, the staff are excellent.

Location is quite OK, about 5 minute walk to underground or, if you enjoy walking as I do, about 20 minutes to the centre (in fact you can see Stephemdom from outside). The bed was firm, the shower, sink & WC all OK. Medium-sized supermarket was close by. No air-conditioning but I had mild weather so could not assess whether or not it would be needed on a hot night. Criticisms: 1) No elevator, but not an issue if you are travelling light. 2) The position of the TV in the room was very poor in relation to the bed and the chair was not comfortable to sit in for a long time. 3) Hotel's internet rate was expensive. 4) I thought it was slightly expensive for the facilities and position.

We has a difficult time locating the hotel because of its unique location. I think that a more specific map would be appropriate. The staff was very informative and outstanding in every way. I do wish that rooms in Europe provided access to ice and soft drinks.

It was not clear from the reservation that the apartment we booked was in a different building and different area from the hotel. We would have liked to know this beforehand.
