Rooms looking onto the main road are very noisy with old windows which rattle in the wind. We had to move to a room facing an inner courtyard. Staff were excellent - very friendly and efficient. Breakfast was excellent. Location very good - only 10 minutes from the cith centre.

Some minor thing - not only the toilet in our room was in a separate place from the shower, which is more or less OK (despite the necessity of running through the room every time to wash one's hands.. especially inconvenient in the night time), but for some reason, the entrance to the toilet was... through the door of the wardrobe.. and it was freezing cold.. Other than that, it was a very pleasant stay, and the personnel was highly professional.

Big windows facing a busy street: you can't have windows open during the night (while no adequate air-conditioning) A spectacular but non-practical bath cabin within the room Good english-style breakfast

Stayed in a single room with double bed, fairly spacious. Staff very helpful , free internet & tea /coffee all available 24/7 . Breakfast was fantastic, best so far in Europe! Not air-cond which is a bit weird being an aussie but besides that a great place.

We traveled with our 17 years old daughter and we were pleased to find a hotel which offers a spacious triple room. Unfortunately the view of this room is desolating :from a tiny balcony for one person you can see a dark interior courtyard with strange resonance and ugly splinters against birds.!The carpets and furniture are quite used. The hotel staff is friendly but can not offer many tourist documentation in english.Breakfast OK.

NEEDS AIR-CONDITIONING!!!!! Was like a sweat box. Room was huge and comfy. However a closed window leaked in a crazy down-poor in the middle of the night, I got up and shut the window even though it was still so hot and one of the other permanently closed windows leaked and soaked my bag and everything in the bag including passports, so our first day was spent at the Australian consulate which was was only a short stroll! The hotel didn't really seem to care much though which annoyed me a little. Breakfast was good though. And the main girl on the desk was nice and helpful otherwise. But seriously needs air-con! Not too far from everything.

The room was really nice, located on the last floor of the hotel with a nice city view. The only problem was a church nearby which rang its bells really early in the morning. Apart from this, I would recommend the hotel for visit the city: it's' just 10minuts walking from the city center and the mentro station.

I rarely write reviews but felt obligated in this case. First the positives. The hotel staff was great and provided us assistance for all our needs. The hotel was centrally located with easy access to transportation. There were also few negatives with our stay. Non-smoking room smelled of smoke, the room was dark and dreary and very, very small for 3 people. The bathromm was hilarious, too small for comfort. The breakfast room was small and often could not accomodate everyone wishing to eat.

This hotel was quite good, though preferred the Suite 900m property down the block, which was about the same price but newer and in much better condition. My room was large and the bathroom fixtures were new and in good condition; however, the room itself was old and the furniture was a little mismatched and run down. The bedding was comfortable, though, and everything was very clean, so this is still a very good choice. The staff were very helpful and knowledgable. The best part of this hotel was the breakfast - a huge, lovely spread with fresh fruits, breads, granolas, cheeses, meats, and much more. Austrian know how to do breakfast (much better than the greasy-spoon buffets in N America)! The location is really nice, in a friendly area with great Asian restaurants, interesting shops and quite a few supermarkets - it was charming but not overly touristy. The naschmarket is nearby which has fabulous food. You can walk everywhere from this hotel, though there is a subway stop 5 minutes away.

The staff are very welcoming and speak excellent English. The hotel location is perfect, only a 15 to 20 minute walk from Stephansdom and on a tram line if you don't want to walk. The neighborhood is quiet and feels safe. The room was very large and clean. It was in the back so faced an enclosed area, the windows were frosted so there was no view but I didn't go to Vienna to hang out in my hotel so I didn't mind. Breakfast was excellent, included hot food where many others do not. This was my first time in Vienna and I will definitely stay there again if I get the chance to go back.

We were very disappointed in the management of the hotel. As I emailed you previously, we were charged $53.84 the day after we left for supposedly walking off with a hotel map. The accusation was unfounded as we have no such map in our possession nor do we know what map they are even referring to. We were also charged another $53.85 three days later without any explanation. As the Papageno management team failed to respond to my emails, we asked our credit card company to intervene. Regrettably, we had 3 loads of wash done and it all came back to us stuffed into the 3 small bags that we sent our dirty clothing in. That was very disappointing for the $21.00 that we paid. Mind you, we left the hotel without issuing a single complaint. Lastly, we would have preferred being closer to the city center, however, we did not mind the walks back and forth---it's exercise afterall.

I was pleasantly surprised when I found the Hotel Papageno. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The room was much larger than I was expecting for the price and everything was clean and wonderful. The breakfast was a feast causing me to wonder how everyone managed to stay so thin if that's the way the eat? The other travelers that I met there were from all over Europe. The final thing that really impressed me seems like such a little thing but the access to free internet was a very nice touch that in other Hotels was going for as high a fee as 5 Euro per 10 minutes!!! I would highly recommend this hotel and will definately stay there again on my next trip!!! Michael McColl

We were given recently renovated, spacious, well-lighted and well-appointed rooms with excellent facilities including air conditioning, safe, hair-dryer, well-stocked mini-bar, flat TV (not large but enough to check the news oin satellite TV at night) and new goose down comforters and pillows. Beds were very comfortable, breakfast fine and the church bell just across our window went quiet at night which together with the double windows ensure total quiet. The only unsettling aspects of our stay were our room layout, the cow fur covering the head of our bed and the small size of the elevator. Though clean, brand-new, ample and smartly appointed our bathroom was camped in a corner within a ceiling-less, sliding-door, office-like cubicle. Curiously our daughters' room on the same 4th floor had a proper bath-room and no fancy furs around. Overall good value.

The room that we had was large and spacious. The adjoining bathroom was exceptionally large, clean, bright and modern, with some unique and excellent features (e.g. the shower-head, shower/tub arrangement, mirrors, etc). The eating area and quality of breakfast provided, included with the price of the room, was very nice. We enjoyed our stay and are pleased to recommend this hotel based on our stay.

The rooms are spacious and very clean, but the layouts are slightly "eccentric", with the WC hidden inside a cupboard in our room! But adds to the charm. The staff are very friendly and everyone speaks english and the breakfast offered is good. Location is good. 5 minutes walk from a U Bahn station. There is an S Bahn station just outside. under 5 minutes to the "Ring" The lift is rather small and can just about accomodate 4 adults. Overall excellent value for money.

We are a family of four who stayed at the Papageno in early March of 2006. The Papageno was extremely responsive to returning E-mails and answering questions prior to arrival. From a reservation perspective we specifically requested 2 rooms, one with a double or queen bed the other with two twin beds to accommodate our two young adult sons. Upon arrival we found both rooms had double beds. I provided a copy of my reservation request, which clearly specified two beds for the boys. Surprisingly, the desk clerk was resistant, and less than friendly, in changing the room but finally did so. The Hotel is situated in an urban area with easy access to the tram, the hotel lobby is inviting, and the breakfast met our expectations. The elevator (lift) is extremely small (it will accommodate no more than two people with their luggage) but functional. The rooms are charming, with European décor, and clean. The walls seem to convey sound as we heard snoring and voices coming from the next room. The bathrooms are small but clean. Sections of the hotel common areas (hallways, stairwells, etc.) are under renovation, a condition that we were not made aware of prior to making our reservations. It’s difficult to appreciate the charm of a hotel with drop cloths and paint buckets adorning the hallways. I am sure the hotel will be attractive when the renovation is complete. However, I am disappointed we were not made aware of this prior to booking our rooms the result of which is my reluctance to recommend this hotel in spite of it’s other redeeming characteristics.

I asked for a quiet room on the top floor of the hotel with two beds and that was what i got. An extra bonus was that there were two bedrooms in the suite. The price was fine for us for the three nights we stayed there. The front staff were very helpful on arrival and during the stay. The breakfast was extensive compared to other hotels i've stayed on througout europe except that one of the pieces of bread had some mould growing on it.....It is 10 mins walk to the opera (city centre) and about 5 to the underground. The free internet in the lobby is also a bonus.
