I wasn't very confident when I picked this hotel, but it was the best thing I could find for my budget when my wife and I went to Vienna during Euro 2008. I must say that I was very happy with my choice. The hotel is old, but the rooms have been recently renovated. Our room was small, but just what you would expect for any place in Europe. The bathroom had a very good shower, and most importantly, was very clean. The location isn't exactly central, but it is directly across from the tram station and only a couple of blocks away from the subway that takes you anywhere you want. There is a shopping center with a supermarket right next to the hotel, which ended up being convenient as well. I wouldn't mind staying there again in the future.

We stayed a week in a clean spacious room with generous en-suite, good breakfast served in pleasant dining room overlooking Columbus Square; very convenient for metro or tram access. Would certainly stay there again.

Hier stimmt das Preis-Leistung-Verhältnis auf jeden Fall. Das Hotel ist schon etwas älter, hat aber teilweise neu renovierte Zimmer. Das Personal ist sehr nett,das Frühstück sehr gut und an der Sauberkeit war auch nichts auszusetzen. Die Innenstadt ist schnell mit der U-Bahn zu erreichen und in der direkten Nachbarschaft gibt es eine Einkaufsstraße, Cafes und eine gute Kneipe. Wir waren im Nebengebäude untergebracht und mussten deshalb über den Hof und eine alte Treppe zu unseren Zimmern gehen, die dafür aber sehr ruhig waren. Es gab dort allerdings keinen Fahrstuhl.

The taxi driver from the airport suggested we look for somewhere more central as the area and Hotel were poor in his opinion .... I'm happy to say he was totally wrong although we were a distance from the city centre. Breakfast and comfort were good and I would book there again.

This hotel was just what I was looking for. A nice retro atmosphere with that slightly 'lived in' feel. Loved the breakfast's and the staff were always willing to help. The one big surprise was the local area, I loved it. Extensive precincts with many interesting shops and a great supermarket which was a source of reasonably priced 'snack' food. In summary, the Kolbeck is not the Marriot, but I think it's a lot more fun.

Fantastic hotel, rooms huge, ultra modern in renovated ones, large beauftiful bathroom, even LCD flat panel TV, location a bit away from centere but does not matter since metro short walk along a pedestrian shopping street, breakfast was outstanding with large variety of foods almost like having in regular restaurant except buffet. I did not want to leave the hotel.

The Kolbeck is a beautiful hotel, well situated a beautifully appointed large rooms. My room was on the front of the building right overlooking the tram stop on the main road, so the noise was deafening all night long and as there was no air con and not even a fan I had to leave the windows open all night. There is no lift which made it difficult with my heavy baggage. Breakfast was excellent, the staff helpful and welcoming, the building clean and beautifully maintained. I would just suggest to the management that the installation of even just a fan would make all the difference to the comfort of its guests. Even if they increased the tariff by 1 euro a day, it would pay for itself in a very short space of time. I hate to sound negative because other than the noise and heat problem, the hotel could not have been better. I would even go back knowing that I had to lug my bags up the steps, it was so nice there. Unfortunately however, I would not go back unless I knew that something had been done about the heat and the noise.

My first time in Vienna and I had a major problem locating hotel from Sudtiroler Platz metro station which has a number of exits and it was unclear from the map where the hotel was in relation to this metro station. Hotel Kolbeck is equidistant and MUCH easier to find from Keplerplatz metro station where there are only two exits in the same pedestrian street - as I recall take the exit at the rear of the train when arriving from central Vienna but I forget the name of this exit. Kolbeck offers good value for money close to a metro station a few stops from the centre of the City. The room and bathroom were very clean and had been refurbished recently although fairly basic and no toileteries were provided. There was a limited choice for the buffet style breakfast served from 0600 - 1000 although it was perfectly adequate unless you are intending to devour vast quantities to last you for rest of the day! After hours you have to let yourself in to the hotel with an electronic key card so do not forget to take it with you. There is free access to the internet via a PC in the foyer although on a first come first serve basis and this can be monopolised at times. Overall I would stay there again.

No lift but its closer to many locations. 5 mins with under ground train to the main train station. Good place to stay overall. One drwaback is it is not in the famous ringstrausee but can reach there by train in 3-4 mins.

The hotel was within walking distance of the south train and U-bahn stations. We encountered some problems at checkin with the code we were given. After several calls to the operator of the "automated night entry system", she took a taxi and got us checked in. Another couple came while we were waiting and were able to get inside with their information. We were told ours was a system problem. The passage way from the lobby to our room went outside through a courtyard that was rather unappealing and there was no elevator to our floor. All in all, the staff was courteous and friendly, the room was clean, breakfast was good and the location convenient. The hotel is located on a main street with a large pedestrian shopping area. The restaurant they recommended was next door and had excellent food at a most reasonable price. All in all, it was a pleasant stay and I would recommend the hotel and would return there again.

I have stayed for five days in Hotel Kolbeck Vienna and I was gladly surprised especially for the kindness of personnel; they are providing many useful informations, they have always a good word for you and a big smile on their faces. The location is excelent. You can catch Tram 0 right in front of the hotel to go to Sudbanhof train station, or walk some 200 meters to the metro Line 1, three stops to center of the town. There´s a big shopping mall in the same Columbus Platz as well as a bar and restaurant. Not far is a McDonald. The room was clean, only doesn't have carpet on the floor (naked parchet only). The breakfast was very good. Overall price to quality is excelent! One more thing: doesn't have elevator and, around 2 or 3 pm a lot of noise from the refurbishing some other rooms. (the hotel still under renovation). But this will be finished in short time, I believe.Is quiet in night time and has Internet also.

I had room 130 and this room is at the rear of the building and was quiet and obviously recently refurbished.The room although basic was clean and the bathroom had a good shower and soap provided,the breakfast was more than basic continental style.Easy to find from the metro. The concierge was very nice and gave lots of useful info. Fluent in English. The location is suitable for people who want to save on cabs from/to airport. Within 10 min walking distance there is an airport shuttle bus stop (bus comes every 30 min.). The ride costs only 6 Euros! Walking distance to metro station. My (single) room was quite small, but it did not matter to me. No elevator. Smoking rooms. TV did not work, but I did not come to watch TV in Vienna! ;-), so it was minor for me. Wake-up service. Telephone. High-speed Internet at the lobby is a good plus. Absolutely clean. Had the window open the whole night-no noise whatsoever. Highly recommend for travelers on the budget.

Hotel Kolbeck was a pleasant surprise and of much better standard than we expected for a 2 star hotel, matching the 3 star hotels we stayed at in other towns in many respects. It is within easy walking distance of the Sudbahnhof and is located in a shopping precint just south of the old town, a few subway stops away. Our room was large and the bathroom had been recently renovated - renovations were obviously still underway in other parts of the hotel. The bed was clean and comfortable, with TV & hairdryer included. The carpets were the only thing that was a little less clean - more stained than dirty though. Our room was in an annex section of the hotel and involved walking up 2 steep flights of stairs with luggage. It overlooked the shopping/cafe area below, which was a little noisy as we had the windows open due to the heat, but not a problem if both sets of windows were closed. The breakfast buffet was also quite good, with a reasonable but simple selection and included in the price. Overall, we were very pleased with our stay and would stay there again next time we go to Vienna.

It is quite convenient but it is very noisy (even at night) because it is located next to a main road. The variety of breakfast is not enough. But the staff are very friendly and helpful.

The hotel is within walking distance of the train station but a bit further from the centre. We walked it once but it took about 30 minutes but there are trams and also a metro station near by. The room was very large but the old windows let a lot of noise in from the street. The breakfast was pretty standard. There were a couple of nice bars next door and also a supermarket/shopping centre.

Hotel Kolbeck was a convenient hotel - close to a U-bahn line and with free internet available off of the lobby. The staff was very friendly and helpful and generally spoke excellent English. Our room was somewhat oddly designed and the windows opened over the garbage receptacles (a bit smelly after a weekend) but it was far from traffic noises in the city. The breakfasts were perfectly adequate and the coffee was great!

The room was clean. The water was hot for the shower. The hotel is located 3 blocks from the subway station and 6 blocks from the South railway station. The hotel is located in a commercial area with a number of resturants close by. Breakfast was good. I would certainly stay at this hotel again.

The only thing that did not work out was that a friend of mine wanted to contact me by phone to apooint with me -- this message somehow was not kept although I asked for it before leaving the hotel at about 10 am and returning to it to get my luggage at around 3 pm.

Best hotel that we stayed at in all of Europe and the location was perfect. In addition, they serve a buffet break fast which was also the best we had in Europe. The location is only a ten minute walk from the main train station. Highly recommend this hotel for budget travellers.

il y avait 2 reservations de faites, 1 chambre double et 1 single. une erreur dans le mail qui communiquait le code d'entrée ... mais on a eu une réponse à l'interphone ! la single au dernier étage etait un peu petite mais propre et correct pour une nuit de passage. l'hotel est très propre et le petit déjeuner est très bien servi. l'indication pour arriver par le métro pourrait être plus claire, car avec des explications c 'est assez simple de trouver mais la nuit il n'y a pas beaucoup de monde dans les rues à viennent pour se faire renseigner.

L'hotel Kolbeck ha pregi e difetti. Pregi: 1) il personale è gentilissimo: siamo arrivati e ci ha spiegato tutto su trasporti, vienna card, ecc... 2) colazione a buffet abbondante (uno può farsi dei panini da portarsi via se vuole...) 3) postazione internet gratuita 4) camere spaziose 5) posizione ottima se uno arriva dalla stazione sud (è a 700 mt e la fermata della metro sarà a 3-400 mt). Svantaggi: 1) da ottobre 2004 ha aperto un cantiere di lavoro proprio dietro l'albergo che apre alle 6.30 e chiude alle 19. Se uno ha il sonno leggero (come me) è impossibile dormire dopo le 7! Il cantiere rimarrà aperto circa un anno ma dopottutto questo è un punto sfavorevole che non dipende dall'albergo! 2) A noi è stata data una camera in uno stabile esterno all'albergo. Per arrivare alla camere dovevamo fare un cortile esterno (un problema se piove o c'è freddo!) più due piani di scale strette e senza ascensore. A noi non fregava più di tanto. Forse danno quelle camere (5 o 6 in tutto) solo a ragazzi. Questo è tutto. Se dovessi tornare a Vienna, probabilmente tornerei in questo hotel. Ciao

The hotel was apparently undergoing a renovation which was somewhat inconvenient. There is also major construction underway next door which resulted in being awakened at 7 am by a jackhammer. The customer service was good and I am sure that when the remodeling is completed this will be a very nice property, I just feel that a warning or discounted room rate would have been appropriate given the circumstances.

This Hotel is totally unacceptable, even for a low price. You can't even unload your luggage properly, since their is no parking at all in front of the hotel

Apart from the carpet which needs to be changed, the high level noise from car passing by the hotel( dependind on which side is the room located, mine was on the side of the road ) , everything was OK.
