The hotel was well located, within easy walking of many key sites. Breakfast was excellent and staff friendly and helpful. Hotel was a little difficult to find as it is down an alley off the street. This was also cobblestone, so deliveries outside the window were a little noisy. Room was spacious and clean with a separate area for suitcases and bathrooms. Internet was readily available, and free.

Great atmosphere and location, very good, friendly and helpful staff, value for money. Very nice restaurants, coffee houses nearby. Conveniently located for airport bus, train station. Good free Wifi. Nice, quiet rooms. Pretty much 10 out of 10. Only improvement could be a little more variety on offer for the breakfast (though it is certainly good enough as is). No hesitation to come back or recommend to others.

All interest places are at walking distances, also you can purchase tickets for tours and concerts in the desk Nothing else, and when I go back to Vienna will go again to Austria-wein Hotel.

The location and staff were wonderful. We loved the ambiance of the old building. Due to the location, the room was extremely quite! The gentleman at the front desk was particularly helpful with maps/directions and was happy to make any reservations we needed. We also enjoyed the monthly newsletters we received once we made reservations and look forward to receiving upcoming editions. Our only very small complaint would be that there were no wash clothes in the bathrooms.

The last thing I expect is the non provision of air con by the hotel. Other than that, the room was spacious and clean. However, overall stay was spolit by the cut in electricity for at least 2 hrs. The counter staff was unfriendly and unhelpful. While I understand his fear that candles may cause fire in the room, the hotel should have torch lights for hotel guests as contigency in such times, the staff should also show more empathy to the guests and inform the guests of what happened. We were only told of the actual situation upon our asking instead. Not worthy to pay EUR175 per night for such.

According to my family this hotel scored the best ratings for our four week stay in Italy and Austria. Not that the other hotels weren't good in their own way and we enjoyed each of them but what made this hotel stand out was the great breakfast, the friendliness and general happiness of the staff. The warmth you receive when you walk in the door and the ability to speak English clearly when you are tired out from travelling is a huge plus. The other positives were the plumbing. The toilets worked well and the shower water was always hot.

Stayed for one night. Mayor impressions: * Excellent breakfast! * Very clean and spacious room with great bathroom and excellent bed. * Almost central location - 15 minutes walking to all downtown attractions. * Used public transportation to get from/to airport. Would not even dream finding parking in downtown Vienna. * Got a smoking room, even though I believe we asked for a non-smoking one. It was not too stinky though.

Stayed here for a long weekend in early December Wednesday to Sunday. Given that this is at the cheaper end of the Vienna hotel spectrum it really does offer great value for money and is really in every respect a 4 star hotel hiding behind a 3 star facade. We stayed in a classic room on the top floor which looked out over the internal courtyard so view was restricted, but this was offset in that there was no noise at all. while not so easy to find (it is tucked down a small side street) its is exceptionally conveniently located for everything in the centre of Vienna. Tram and Ubahn stop is a few hundred metres away but apart from one tram ride for the novelty value we walked everywhere. Central Vienna is very compact and you can walk almost everywhere in minutes from this hotel Breakfast buffet was excellent with a large variety of items on offer and staff were pleasant and helpful. overall very difficult to fault this Hotel and we are already planning to return this summer. note: transport - taxis are fairly inexpensive and plentiful in Vienna, although not the most reliable if you pre-book.

We requested a quad room and received one without problems. High ceiling, spacious, comfortable beds, possibly a bit too much incidental furniture but then we had too many suitcases. We requested an additional fan & it arrived immediately (late evening), essential as the rooms were not air conditioned but the fans were sufficient. The room faced the small courtyard / pedestrian street and would have been very quite if it had not been for the early start of buidling works. But that is not the ault of the hotel. Staff smiling and curteous, efficient. Small lift to go up was a blessing. Bathroom great. The extractor fan was fixed in such a way as to come on with the big light on a timer switch. Odd but very practical. Extremely well placed close to major sites in the pedestran area and a multitude of restaurants. Breakfast buffet simply amazing and cheerful. International newspapers available there. Front desk a great help in arranging tours, even the fab Segway tour of Vienna (3 hours). It's expensive but well worth it. Parking is very expensive (20 Euro)in a very close semi private park garage, but then it's immediately accessible. Getting thee by car a bit tricky, particularly if it's late or dark, but the instructions were very clear. Beware of the Vienna 1-way system! Cheaper parking further away is also posible. Very close to undergroung stations and tramway too. We had been to Vienna many times before, mostly to visit relatives & sight seeing, but never in such comfort and style. Highly recomended!

A lovely, clean and well presented hotel with quality furnishings and fittings. Very comfortable rooms and the breakfasts were top quality too. The staff were very friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. Would have given it 10 out of 10 if we had not had our sleep disturbed by building work going on at the property next door which started at 7am. This was made worse because it was so hot we had to sleep with the windows open. We certainly recommend this hotel but do check on the progress of the building work next door if you plan to go in hot weather.

Overall a nice hotel, BUT... As this hotel isn´t a budget location it should be taken for granted that there is sufficient hot water for showering in the morning although there are many guests like on a easter weekend. This hotel might be a 3 star hotel but the service was definitely 5 star. The people at the front desk very friendly and helped us with everything we asked, including helping us buy a plane ticket. We were among the people stranded due to SkyEurope bankruptcy and went to the front desk to ask them to recommend us a travel agency to buy return tickets to Bucharest. The lady seeing that we don't speak German, she phoned Austrian Airlines and got us a very good deal. The hotel is located very central, you can walk to Stephansdom in 5 minutes, in 10 minutes to Hofburg and about 15 minutes to Museum Quartier. We had a classic room which faced an inner courtyard so it was nice and quiet. The room was clean and well maintained, the breakfast was a treat. It was one of my best hotel experiences in Europe.

Arrived from USA. My sister and I and my 17 year old son who is going to school in Austria. Very nice neat clean. Not too far from the train we took from the airport. Stayed 2 nights. The breakfast included was awesome. We had a room for 3 people, was small but adequate. We opened the window at night for a little ventilation because the room was a little stuffy. My son slept on a small sleeper chair, maids forgot to make up the first night, but we got along fine. They apologized for that and the next day after touring, we found his bed neatly prepared. Staff was kind.

The best hotel we could have stayed in to visit Vienna. Staff excellent, couldnt have been more helpful. And if you contact them in advance, they will organise transport ( at a very reasonable cost ) for you from / to the Airport. Rooms spacious, clean and well maintained. We had a mix of single and double rooms, single rooms sizeable, supper bathroom. We had breakfast ( continental ) in the hotel each of 3 mornings. Excellent quality and choice, staff very helpful. Location could not be more perfect, within 5 minutes of main shopping street and Stephansdom. And also from the Schwedenplatz U-Bahn station which gives you access to the entire city and a great way to start your sightseeing day. 2 lovely restaurants within 1 minute of the hotel ( sorry I can't remember their names ), the better of the 2 is up a small alleyway across the street from the hotel with very friendly owner and staff, and value. And there is a lovely small bar/pub ( only seats 15-20 ) on street corner across the street from the hotel. A great location to have a chat, beer, glass of wine etc to relax after a long day sightseeing. We were a group frmo Ireland who have been travelling to a different European city each year for the last 8 years. We found Vienna very affordable, and with the Hotel Austria as our base, this was one of the bext trips we have been on and fully recommend it to all visitors. My expectations were high following the description on venere.com - and the Hotel Austria lived up to them completely! Very clean, very quiet, excellent staff, nice rooms, great location. So easy to get to from the airport, easy to get to stations etc. Unfortunately I had to move on to an 'up-market' hotel where meetings were being held - I wish I had stayed at the Austria! Unfortunately I cannot recommend the Hotel Austria. The location is central, the rooms are lovely, the breakfast is great and the staff were exceptional...but unless you can get a good night's sleep it's irrelevant. This was an incredibly noisy hotel...and the noise was all internal. I think it's the water/pipes in this hotel that were the problem - it sound like a jet engine was firing in the ceiling periodically. We moved after the first night and thank goodness.

Hotel was down a little alley, and there was absolutely no noise. The only problem was that the windows opened up onto other windows and if you didn't keep the drapes closed, you could see everyone and they could see you. Most of the people working there were very accommodating and went out of their way to make you happy. The breakfasts were good andd they would make you scrambled eggs and ham for an extra cost. I did it one day and would not recomend it. Almost inedible. Austria is a beautiful city and this hotel was in walking distance; although some of the sights you had to walk quite far. Overall, I would stay there again.

My wife, teenage daughter and I stayed 3 nights and definitely recommend the Hotel Austria. Positives (with caveats below): very helpful staff, very clean rooms, excellent breakfast and great location. Make sure you request a room on the courtyard and not over the alley. The drunks coming and going all night from the hotel and the bar next door will keep you up until late in the night, followed by the garbage pickup early every morning. Negatives: Smoking and the loading area. Caveat #1- smoke: I know we are in Europe, so smokers will be everywhere. There is no smoking allowed in the breakfast room (which is a start), so all the French, German and Italians stand in the open front doorway or sit in the lounge next to the internet computer and puff away instead. With the doorway open, the smoke blows directly into the breakfast room. There is a simple solution: ban smoking from the common areas and move the ashtray away from the front doorway. Caveat #2- loading area: there is only enough space for 2 or 3 cars to load or unload luggage at a time. Picture this: a big, fat, chain smoking Italian guy with no shirt and a hairy back blocking 2 spaces for over an hour and a half while we and others were trying to get our cars loaded at checkout time. The Italian guy didn't care (go figure), and the front desk guy acknowledged the problem but did nothing. We and others managed to jockey our cars around his, double and triple park, load up and get checked out while he just stood around doing nothing but get in the way and, yes, smoke a couple of packs. Frankly, I expected the staff to say or do something (like call a tow truck). The guy was still there when we finally got checked out and on our way, so who knows how long he just hung out inconveniencing others. These 2 experiences aside, we will probably still stay here again. Hopefully someone at the hotel reads this and takes care of the small things that took away from an otherwise great stay.

As a solution for my family (2 adults and 2 kids) Hotel Austria was one of the better I met during my journeys: People at the reception is very kind and professionally prepared, breakfast is rich, the rooms are very quiet and you are in the very centre of Wien. I suggest to rent the bicycle of the hotel and have a ride around Wien: It’s a nice experience.

Reception staff were particularly helpful. Free internet access in reception area was much appreciated. Wine prices, including in minibar, were much lower than elsewhere in Vienna. Canned fruit salad at breakfast was disappointing.

Accommodations were very small. Questionable value. Rooms were very hot. Fans did not do the job to cool off. Do not recommend for summer travel as no breeze available in the internal setting. Probably okay in fall or spring. Breakfast was nicely done. Fairly close to Stephansplatz and multiple dining opportunities.

First room allocated was next to lift and had only one window that would not open - the temperature was about 25 degrees and no air conditioning. Second room offered was much more pleasant. Location is very quiet in theory but sleep can be disturbed by noisy drunks leaving from pub next door in early hours of the morning. The lane on which the hotel fronts magnifies sounds owing to echo effect of tall buildings. Hotel should invest in air conditioning of rooms on front side. On the plus side are the position within walking distance of all major sights of inner city and the terminal for the airport bus, an excellent buffet breakfast and helpful English-speaking staff.

This was our first trip to Vienna. The hotel's staff are superb, always polite, friendly and ready to help. Nothing is too much trouble for them. I've stayed at many 5 star hotels but the service at the Austria Hotel is far superior in terms of personal service and attention.

The breakfast buffet served at Hotel Austria was one of the best I've had at hotels in Europe. There was a variety of fruits and pastries, enough to give you a breakfast that will last you throughout the day with only a small quick lunch! The staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel was superb given its price (compared with those in the vicinity). It is only about a 3-min walk away from the closest metro station Swedenplatz. It's also quite close to the busier metro stop Stephanplatz (about 6-min walk).

I really enjoyed staying at the hotel. Great location, renovated rooms, very nice and professional staff. It is a little bit on a pricey side, but I guess that's what you pay to be in the center of the city during Euro 2008.

My husband and I travelled through 7 countries in Europe, and would rate our stay at this hotel top of our list. The staff were extremely warm and more than willing to provide assistance when we asked for restaurant recommendations, directions, etc. There was a good range of food provided for breakfast, and the breakfast room itself was comfortable and lovely to dine in. It was a great start to each of our mornings. The room was nice, bright and clean and because it overlooked a quiet street, we were not disturbed by noises at night. We met some fellow Australians who'd had this hotel recommended to them and they were equally pleased with their stay. The hotel was in an excellent location and we walked to all the main sites around Vienna. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Vienna.

This hotel was absolutely lovely. The staff was very helpful. We had to leave early before the breakfast buffet was ready so the staff prepared coffee for us and brought it to us in the lobby as we waited for the cab! It's in a great location, we walked to many places. There are great restaurants and cafes close by

Very nice hotel and wonderful breakfast.Excellent location. We stayed 2 nights in a triple room 2 adults and a 16 yr old. The room was big enough for 3 of us but smaller than in the US; but very comfortable. Many hotels in Europe, including this one, do not provide shampoos, conditioner etc in the bathrooms, although there was a large dispenser of bath/hair soap in the shower. The staff were extremely helpful and pleasant, and even prepared breakfast for us an hour early so we could catch an early train.

I will definately return to this hotel. One set-back is the absence on Air Conditioning in the rooms. Never visit this hotel in the summer. Extremely hot. No air circulation even if windows are open. I will return to this hotel on a different season. Breakfast was amazing. Staff was very nice. Location was perfect. If hotel had air conditioning - it would be perfect :-)

This is a truly outstanding hotel for its price. The rooms and public areas were spacious and elegant, the breakfast was superb, free internet access was a plus and the hotel is situated in an extremely handy location. The only negative was the slight overheating which seems to be par for the course across Europe in Winter.
