Hotel Reviews Tirrenia
Mature couple
United Kingdom, Oct 2009
The Hotel Tirrenia not only met but far exceeded our expectations. The owner and his wife (who provided a breakfast buffet at least as good as any 4 star hotel - both hot and cold dishes) who both spoke English, so we did not have to speak Italian at all, could not have been more helpful or welcoming. And Papa Piero was a delight to be with. We could not recommend this hotel highly enough.

I stayed with my wife, daughter, son-in-law and grandson. This was our 4th visit to Hotel Tirrenia. As always, the hotel and rooms were spotlessly clean and the service from owner Lucca and his family excellent. Breakfast is the best we have experienced in Italy. The location of the hotel cannot be beaten - two minutes walk to the beach and shops. The direct bus from Pisa Airport to Viareggio stops two blocks from the hotel.

Would strongly recommend it: welcoming staff, spotless rooms, excellent breakfast buffet (wide choice of fruit, option of cooked food, cereals, etc). Modern decor, stylish furniture in public areas, pretty little terrace garden. A far better experience than the overpriced 4 star Viareggio hotel we stayed at last year

Everything was allright. It's a good hotel with good employees. The worst thing is that the room was very hot, and we must have connected the air all time. There's a problem with Viareggio, that is that beach is private, so you must pay to go (6€ per day in the beach that has accord with the hotel). If you have family and want to go to beach maybe will be expensive.

This is a wonderful family run hotel, very well located in Viareggio. The breakfast is excellent, and the service very friendly at all times. We would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the town.

Nice and cozy hotel with friendly staff. Value for money indeed. And the location is perfect; close to the beach, the market and a small foodstore.

We selected this hotel based on the reviews posted by previous guests and, the hotel met our high expectations. We stayed in the hotel for three nights in June, 2009. The hotel is operated by the owner (Luca)and he was friendly and very helpful. When it rained, Luca handed out umbrellas; when we went to the beach, Luca gave us beach towels and a coupon to obtain a discount on the rental of chairs and a parasol; when we asked for directions, Luca gave us a map. The room was quiet, spacious and spotlessly clean. The breakfast was the best we had during our entire trip in Italy; the selection of fresh fruit was impressive. The hotel is located only two blocks from the bus station and, as such, the location is convenient for travellers who are travelling to or from Viareggio by bus. Busses travel from Viareggio to Lucca, Florence, Pisa and Pisa Airport regularly. Viareggio was a pleasant town to spend some time. The room rate was competitive with other hotels in Viareggio and, we would rate the room rate as good value for the money. We would gladly return to this hotel in the future, and we would most definitely recommend this hotel to other travellers.

If you are looking for a hotel with the warm family touch, nice accommodations, close to the beach, then this is the place. The owners, Pietro and Roberta are wonderful people. They are so warm and friendly. The location is right across from the beach and 10 minute walk to the train station. I would definitely stay at their hotel again.

The striking thing about this hotel is the friendliness, helpfulness and efficiency of the family which runs it. We enquired about the best way to get to the Puccini Festival and because we wanted to go earlier than the hotels coach, were given a bus timetable with highlighted times and were booked on the return run of the hotels coach. They helped us with choice of restaurants, of which the best was Buonamico - truly excellent. Apart from this, the breakfast is wonderful with lots of fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereals, bacon and egg, cold meats and cheese, croissants and cakes etc. The hotel also obtained gluten-free bread for me. There is free use of the internet. The hotel is close to the beach, bus station, street market and 15 minutes walk from the station. My only small quibble is that the water leaks out of the shower enclosure over some of the bathroom floor. However, most importantly the beds were extremely comfortable. This was our second visit and we would return to Viareggio just for this hotel!

Excellent cleanliness and maintenance of property. Very efficient and welcoming owners. Always someone on hand to help. Lovely fresh breakfast. Very relaxing stay, would definitely go back there and recommend it highly. From Viareggio it is very easy to get to Lucca, Pisa, Florence etc., by public transport. For eating out, try the Chiesina which has great pizza among other things and its not expensive at all.

This is one of the first hotels that I would strongly recommend to a friend. We usually stay in at least 4 star but since it was a short stay for a wedding we settled for this 3 star. A very welcoming small familyhotel. Breakfast good with cheese,, cold cuts, bacon, egg and so on, different fresh fruit, (when we visited it was Cherrys!) Tirrenia is in the middle of everything: beach, shopping and resturants. Parking is on the street, you buy a permit from the hotel for 5 euro/day. Threr is a very small backyard where you can enjoy a glass of wine or a Moretti. This hotel is for everyone.

Tirrenia is a very modern, small hotel on the first block up from the beach in the heart of Viareggio. The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. Our room was relatively large for an Italian hotel room, with a comfortable bed, and sparkling clean. The room had a small balcony overlooking the street with a slight view to the sea. Breakfast was adequate with cold cuts, fruit, scrambled eggs, cereal, and a little pastry.

Our stay at the Tirrenia Hotel was excellent. The people were very friendly and couldn't have done more for you. The entire hotel was spotless. Our family enjoyed the stay at this hotel tremendously. We wished, we had booked another night. The owners are very friendly and helpful. Parking in the street can be difficult during high season, but they have a garage space nearby, and drove us there, both ways. The beach is only half a block away, rooms are welcoming, clean, with everything you need, the breakfast is the best we got in Italy (great variety, incl. beautiful fresh fruit, salami, cheese, croissants, etc.), and it is served until 10.30 am.

I think the hotel was just perfect, for what we paid to stay in the hotel, it was certainly value for money. The staff are so friendly, they went out of the way for us,we arrived in late and they came and collected us from the airport. The hotel was just spotless, fresh towels everyday and fresh beding. The breakfast was lovely. I just felt it was very homely and there's nothing you could fault. If I was to complain it would be the noise factor, it was quite noisy in the hotel, I think this is due to the whole hotel is in marble, so any shoes would cause noise, but while we were there, the hotel was having some work done on the side of the hotel, so that was quite noisy at 8 in the morning, not every day. Even the location to the beach was great and they had a deal with the beach owers and you were entitled to a reduced rate, which is great. The hotel was just in a great location to the train and the bus services, which I found brilliant as well. Over all a brilliant hotel and I certainly going to recommend it to everyone and I will hopefully get back some day. I would just like to say thanks to Lucca and his family for looking after us so well on our Honeymon.

The owner, Luca was very welcoming and helpful with restaurant recommendations, keen to make sure that he recommended not just good restaurants but also the type we were looking for. The hotel is well located just off the front. The front looks a great place to stay, but can be noisy if you stay there, as we have before at another hotel. There is wifi in the rooms but also a free internet terminal in the lobby if you don't bring a laptop. On our last day we had to leave before 7am and although breakfast did not start until 7.30am they were up to make sure we had coffee and rolls before we left. We have booked again for our next trip.
Italy, Feb 2007
Our first introduction to the hotel was the phone call we made when we got a little disoriented on arrival - the directions given were great! The welcome we received was warm and friendly, as if we had been returning and not arriving for the first time. English is spoken by most staff and they were very kind about our elementary Italian. The room was clean and a good size, including the bathroom (large shower), and there was a nice little balcony. We had asked for two beds but the room was made up for a double; the minor problem was corrected while we went for dinner. The staff also let us know about a street carnival a short walk away (more directions given). The breakfast is great and there is good access to the internet. The beach (and Carnivale route) is a block away. My favourite thing about this hotel was the owners and staff - exceptionally friendly, helpful and accommodating. I will recommend this hotel to friends, and will stay here again if I return to Viareggio.

We had stayed for a week in a village about 3 hrs from Pisa and wanted to stay closer to the airport on the last night of our hols to avoid early morning long distance driving. Hotel Tirrenia was chosen mostly for it's proximity (20-30 mins drive) from Pisa. In that respect it fulfilled it's task perfectly. More than that though, the hotel is lovely, the staff friendly and helpful, the location is literally seconds from the beach. Our expectations were more than exceeded. Viareggio itself is great; an abundance of sandy beach, beautiful water, shops, cafes and restaurants. A great end to a great holiday in tuscany. Next time we will book three or so days here before our week long venture into rural tuscany and three more days afterwards to create the perfect balance of a relaxing cultural holiday. Highly recommended.

Excellent location close to promenade, good restaurants and the market. The hotel and rooms were spotlessly clean. Very good continental breakfast. Lucca and his parents couldn't have been more friendly and Lucca gave very helpful advice on restaurants, travel, cycle hire, and on buying tickets for Puccini Opera at Torre de Lago. He also looked up train times for travel to Cinque Terre and we can recommend this highly as a day out if you like walking. He also advised us on bus transport back to Pisa Airport. There are grander hotels in Viareggio but we are sure none as welcoming as the Tirennia. Stuart and Ann Marie Alexander.

We thought the room, the service and the general atmosphere was very good if not excellent, and could not be bettered for the price we paid. The manager and his parents were always patient and helpful. The manager recommended a number of restaurants. We tried four of them and they were all very good, apart from one (Sale e Pepe, which really was not good). The only complaint (and this was very small) is about the parking. We had to park on the street and this was always more difficult (narrow or tight) than it should have been. However, the staff were always available to guide us in. I had mentioned when booking that we were coming by car so would need a parking space but only the space on the street itself was available, though parking was advertised.

Stayed two nights at the Tirrenia during a self planned driving tour of Northern Italy. Lucky to get a parking space on the road outside the hotel (I would have gladly paid for garage space) but the location seems safe and is well placed for the sea front. Air-con in room essential as temp hit 37C on arrival. Breakfast was good but it needed to be as this was one of the more expensive of our 8 hotel stop-overs. Staff were friendly and helpful whenever called on.

We only stayed for one night, but liked the hotel very much. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. They recommended a restaunt two blocks away that turned out to be the most delicious and cheepest we ate during our whole two weeks stay in Italy. The hotel was basic but tidy. At the time it was full booked, so the price was quite high, but overall I really enjoyd staying there. Viareggio is a nice place, and I am looking forward to returning there and to Tirrenia.

We had a great stay. The hotel is clean and comfortable and very well situated. Breakfast was very good with a wide viarity of food on offer and plenty of it. Lucca recomended varios places to eat and he was spot on as these resturants were of superiour quality to those on the promanade. The bus terminal that goes to the airport is only 3 blocks away( 5 mins with cases) and that is a far better way to get to the hotel and about 50euros cheaper too!!!. Lucca gives dicounted tickets to the beach and that save about 3euros per day. All in all we really enjoyed our stay in Viareggio and if we decide to return we would DEFINITLY stay at the Tirrenia. Furthermore we would also catch the bus from the airport instead of a taxi-The airport bus stops right beside the Leaning Tower! Transport links are good the train station is only 20 mins walking away, from there youcan go anywhere! Thanks to Lucca and his family for making our stay really good!

This is a wonderful family run B&B one block off the water. We arrived on a Wednesday and the following morning we walked through the Thursday "market" where all sorts of vendors "hawked" their goods. The city closed off most of the downtown area for the event, it was walking only. You are a 10 minute walk from the train station, 1 minute walk from the beach. Rooms are neat, clean and fairly large. Excellent bathrooms. Luke speaks very good Engligh and was extremely helpful - found our rental car return office and got us directions. His mother is delightful, although she doesn't speak much English her personality and love of life shines through. Take his recommendations for local eating establishments - he knows the area. Also, they have an internet site downstairs for guest use. Cinque Terre is an hour away by train and is easy to get to. Info Center couple blocks from the hotel. When we return to Viariggio, we'll stay here.

Hotel Tirrenia is an excellent little hotel! The staff is very friendly, rooms clean and nice and the breakfast is delicious and plentiful. Acces to internet is also available for free. The only negative thing (didn't bother us though) was noise from streets at nights. I would definetely stay at hotel Tirrenia again and recommend it to all.

This family run hotel is superbly managed and provides excellent facilities for its size and price. The manager is pro active towards guests needs and is most helpful with information and recommendations. Luca and Roberta his mother are a great team.

The room had no drinking glasses and the wall between the bathroom and adjacent bathroom did not seal up to the double window so there was some noise from the next door bathroom. There was a good selection of books and maps on the landings and free internet access. We had trouble finding the hotel as Viareggio has a complicated one way system and Microsoft Mappoint showed the hotel some way from it's actual location, however the map on Venere is correct. The walk to the seafront was less than 2 minutes.

A very nice family-managed hotel. Not more than 150m to the beach. Very friendly and helpful staff. Nice breakfast. All the public areas, room and bathroom looked new and clean. Bathroom though was rather small as usual in Italy. DSL Internet in public area and stay of our small dog was without any charge. Car garage EUR 10,- per day additional incl. shuttle because it was 1km away from the hotel. We would return to this location any time we´d come to Viareggio!

We selected this hotel because it had such good reviews, we were not disappointed, and can do nothing but confirm all the positive comments made by previous guests.

Venere users, what else can I say???? It really was that good, the proprietor waited up for us, spoke excellent English( very welcomed by all the monoglots out there!)The room was fab, the breakfasts were great ( some of his mothers baking too)incredibly clean, spacious, great location, no complaints whatsoever! This is the standard that ALL Italian should aspire too, indeed all hotels the world over. Excellent, would recommend, stay there again and will suggest to friends!! Again we got a good deal, it was out of season - via this site but neverthelsss am sure it still compares very favourably with other hotels in Via Reggio. All in all *****!

We arrived moments before the final parade of Carnevale with thousands attending just a block from the hotel. Only because of the forethought of the proprietor and specific instructions in response to my questions in advance by phone did we make it through the throng with rental car to park at the hotel itself (an area already shut off by police). The hotel rooms were very quiet despite being right on top of the action and on the street(good heavy glazed glass). By 10 pm the town was all quiet again and by morning barely a sign of all the festivities. So well managed...We were given such superb guidance throughout, where to eat, how to drive through Tuscany, etc. MOST welcoming. Be aware however that a balcony with a view is really just a foot or two deep standing space with long side look to little peek toward sea. Rooms are very snug and baths tiny. ( we were in one room; our 2 children in another down the hall) Prices are horrific all over Italy. Really don't know how the population manages. Viareggio deserved a longer stay but we didn't have the time in our itinerary.

I had a very nice stay. I was there for the carnevale and the location was perfect. The manager let me use his computer for e-mail. I also enjoyed meeting and learning a little Italian from the manager's father.

Camere pulite e funzionali, peccato che nel bagno non ci sia il piatto docccia ed il bidet. Colazione buona. La famiglia titolare è semplicemente squisita!

We stayed at the Hotel Tirrenia on the first night of our Italian vacation and it was outstanding in every respect. The staff, accomodations and breakfast were exceptional. The location was perfect with easy access to the beach and town centre, and Luca recommended an excellent seafood restaurant nearby. We hope to return very soon. Thank-you Venere.Com.

An extremeley well situated hotel, near the beach, shops etc., yet quiet and well run. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Watch out for parking restrictions on Market day - easy to get a ticket!
