We staid 3 nights at this hotel and it was good value for money and we would select it again in the future. Advantages: Big clean room, Best towels we've ever seen, Breakfast OK (cold meal with plenty of food sorts), Free shuttle bus to the railway station. Disadvantages: Not all stuff from Reception does understand English well. We didn't receive the room key until the check-in time, while the room was free. TV has mostly Italian broadcasting, we managed to find some foreign channels after a time consuming search. But this happened also at the other 2 hotels where we staid in the region! City center is 20 mins away if you walk.

This was my first stay at Porta Palio. I chose it for its price and proximity to the train station and historic center. It was about a mile walk to the train station and a mile walk to the historic center. If you like to include walking in your excursions, then this is perfect. If you don't like to walk, you may need a closer hotel. WiFi (free) worked great and that was important to me for staying connected to my husband in the states. The room was small and I could hear the neighbors talking, but I only needed the room for showering and sleeping, so I didn't care. I would stay here again.

It's a hotel situated on a major road but hotel is very pleasant with a nice terrace where to eat breakfast or dinner, despite the smells from petrol station next door on one of our two days. Big choice at breakfast.Left luggage cupboard if needed.Once you cross the main road, you can walk into Verona's city centre on quieter streets with alternate routes. Our room was at the back so definitely quiet. Room , pleasant but not very roomy, adequate. Bed & bathroom very good.

The hotel matched the advertised standard and price and was good value for money. We had an enjoyable stay. Never did find the nearest bus stop but the walk into town or to the station was only about 20 minutes and very pleasant. The breakfast was good and supplies well maintained. Meals in the adjacent restaurant were good but the service was often slow.

Recommended only for a one night stay, if you want to visit the opera and want to stay in town. A bus shuttle to the opera is provided and necessary, since it is a looong walk to the center. The rooms were very small and worn down. The aircon was very loud. The highlight was the very friendly lady at the reception. For this kind of money you can get a much better accommodation countryside.

I felt like I recieved quality service for a reasonable price. It was the closest experience to an American hotel. I felt it was very accommadating. The continental breakfast ended up saving us time and money. It was only about a 15 min. walk or 10 Euro taxi ride from the train station. I loved the location and the convenience. I would happily stay at Porta Palio on my next visit.

The hotel is about a 20 minute walk (slow walk) away from the center of Verona. As it is directly on the street you hear from time to time the noise of the cars but compared to the loud guest from next door it's nothing. You can hear everything - the showers above and next to you, the doors etc.. So that might be a problem if you don't have a deep sleep. During the day there was a nice lady at the counter. As we checked in while she was there she knew us, however in the evenings there were both nights different men. Without checking our identification he gave us our room key. As you can see which key is at the counter it would be a problem for strangers to get into your room. That's something they definitely should improve! Besides that it was a nice stay. The room was clean and for the price it's a pretty good place to stay!

The Hotel Porta Palio is situated quite a distance from the centre of Vicenza which we did not realise when we booked. As my husband is disabled it was inconvenient in that respect as we had to take taxis everywhere. I think the Hotel really caters for business people for this reason and would not recommend it for tourists due to location.

I chose this hotel as we were arriving at night and the colourful exterior made it very easy to find. The restaurant for dinner and the breakfast were excellent. The rooms are small but clean, the shower was excellent/powerful but again a very small cubicle. The only real negative was the soundproofing between rooms, there is none! But my room overlooked the river so little noise from outside the hotel. I would definitely stay here again.

Regular hotel, room was small but it was ok for a short stay in Verona. The hotel is old and room walls are not so clean. Bathroom was ok. Location a bit far from Verona old center, but if you enjoy walking is a good option, not so expensive as hotels located in city center.

The rooms were great although the internet was rediculously expensive wich made it expensive to plan the next parts of our trip. the location was also great as it wasn't far to any parts of the city by foot. the restaurant that is attatched to the hotel wasn't really the best quality and very expensive and was also randomly shut one night. but otherwise a nice stay. (the breakfast was great)

When we arrived we were given a triple room with twin bed and single rather than a double bed which we had booked. When asked to change rooms we were moved without a problem. Air conditioning seemed to only come on for a few hours in the afternoon despite the thermostat temperature (we didn't have a remote control). The wireless internet was very expensive (~75 Euros per week or 25 per day). Taxi from airport is about 30 Euros.

We think the "economy" double room was really a single room with a double bed. The room was very expensive for its size (we knew it would be small) & location. I suppose prices are doubled in the Arena Opera season. The hotel staff were welcoming, friendly, helpful & efficient. Breakfast was adequate but uninspired. The free bus to & from the Opera was a great help.

Porta Palio is within walking distance of the station and the town centre depending on the heat. It would be helpful to have a clearer street map of the route from the station - we were lucky that the edicola was still open! The hotel was clean, and the staff very pleasant. Despite being on a main road there was no distrurbance from traffic. Breakfast was basic but generous. The hotel offer a free shuttle bus to the opera which you need to take in order to be able to find the bus afterwards! The drawback is that if you wait for the bus you will arrive later and may not get the best view if you are in the unreserved seating. If you have not taken the bus to the opera and don't know where to find it for the return journey you may not recognise the bus so it is quicker to walk back directly to the hotel, or get a taxi if you are nervous of walking quiet streets late at night.

Good quality rooms, spacious, modern and clean. Good, modern bathroom. Fridge that you can store your own food in a big plus! Location slightly out of the way, but at a walking distance from both the train station and the city centre. Staff were a bit rude to us. Excellent buffet breakfast included - one of the best I've ever seen! Convenient but not exactly cosy - would stay again, but not for extended periods of time. When we arrived the personal could not find our reservation. But they organized the two rooms quite quick. The room size was really poor, It was hard to pass on the other side of the bed as the bed was filling nearly the whole width of the room. That was OK but the staff is not friendly at all...arrogant and makes you feel you are disturbing if you have questions... Knowing that most people goes to the opera until 1:00 (they offer free shuttlebus to the opera) they should foresee that people will have a late breakfast...there was almost nothing left and they did not really care. The room was OK, clean but nothing special.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the porto palio! To be honest, I was a bit worried when we booked online and it was the cheapest one we found, but it was much nicer than the pictures indicated and closer to town than I thought as well. They have a free! shuttle if you are going to see the opera, which is wonderful, and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. There is also a good restaurant in house, so you can spend the day in downtown Verona, go back to the hotel, clean up, have a nice dinner without worrying about crowds and reservations, and then shuttle back in for the opera. As expensive as Verona is during Opera season, this is a great value. We will definitely stay here when we visit again!

Room on the small side and the decor was uninspired, but it was clean, quiet, air-conditioned and everything worked. The bathroom was small but in good order too. Outside parking and an underground garage, so good for drivers. Within easy walking distance of centre. Perfect for opera with free shuttle bus and early dinner sittings in restaurant. Seems to be geared for Northern Europeans but there were some other Italian guests there.

We stayed only one night at Porta Palio before our return flight. We had a lot of difficulties finding the hotel - i don't blame here the instructions, but the streets in Verona are not marked in a visibile way either. The hotel is a little bit far out from the city center - it would be around a half hour walk and a 20 min walk from the main station. The air conditioning in the room was very very noisy with no posibility of turning it off - good thing that we were too tired and fell asleep right away. The only problem we had is with the payment of our stay - that morning when we checked out their application was down so we paid cash without any receipt to acknowledge the cash receipt. Now we also have the amount blocked by the hotel on our credit card without any resolution until now to this problem, although we contacted the hotel.

Hotel in buona posizione.

As long as you speak Italian, you will find the hotel pleasant. Once they get to know you, all is fine. Can't imagine how this hotel came to be rated three stars. A disappointment. Located along busy motorway in rundown neighborhood, Old Town reached by 20 minute walk along more busy motorway. Room cramped, rug very stained and worn. Staff inconsistent: one member was gracious and helpful, others looked like deer caught in the headlights or were openly annoyed at questions. Dinner at restaurant was horribly overpriced for mediocre fare. Lift was out for half the stay. No internet access. And the shuttle to the Arena? Staff couldn't be bothered to announce its arrival, so elderly guests were forced to run in and out of the door to make sure they wouldn't miss it. And it dropped us nowhere near the Arena, rather a shock to the elderly, as well. Staff offered to rent me a bicyle, though Verona offers FREE bicycles to tourists. Also failed to mention public swimming pool across the street.

Staff were very friendly and efficient. The surprise birthday present for my wife was much appreciated - a nice idea. Lack of hot water in the shower on the first morning was immediately investigated and rectified. Breakfast was adequate but for us could have included more fresh fruit. The bus to the Arena worked well and was very helpful. All in all a pleasant and positive experience. We hope to go again.

I selected the hotel from the web, and on the basis of its photos. To be honest, I had hoped for a location slightly more romantic than between a main road and a delapidated canal. However, we were there for the Opera and to explore the Dolomites. The location and garage meant that it was easy to get in and out of the city, and the courtesy bus to the Opera was a godsend. Breakfasts were good and plentiful, and the Euro 16,- buffet supper timed for the Opera bus was excellent value. Furthermore, the old city was only a 5 minute walk away. I would certainly go there again.

Although about a 20 minute walk from the middle of Verona, the hotel is good value and even arranges a coach to meet and collect you from the opera. Beware though, the coach does make a quick getawat after the performance. Aside from a slow lift, the only annoying feature is that the restaurant is not operated by the hotel so you cannot charge meals to your hotel bill. And whilst the hotel takes Amex, the restuarant doesn't.

Very good is free shuttle service from/to Arena for the show. Walking distance from/to Arena is still acceptable.
