Excellent price/quality value, clean, well appointed room and great bathroom; great neighborhood, convenient location, quiet. Only minus might be that our room was small for 4 people (2 adults 2 children). It was awfully tight eating breakfast brought to the room. Breakfast selection good though. If it hadn't have been winter and the weather would be warm, we could have used the outdoor tables and/or private balcony with table and chairs for breakfast.

I would stay here the next time we're in Venice! An excellent suite, beautifully furnished and spotlessly maintained. The location is very close to the railway station and main connection points for taxi, public transit, vaporettos. If you had to leave either by plane or train, this hotel is perfectly positioned. What has not been noted before in the reviews is their location is very quiet in a secluded but non-descript courtyard. The staff was cordial and thoughtful. We really could not ask for anything more to make our stay better.

Family of four. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. While space was tight, you have to remember that this is Venice. Only a very short walk from Pz. Roma and one or possibly two bridges to cross, which is great for those carrying luggage. The courtyard was very quiet for a peaceful night sleep. My only criticism would be that the hotel could stand to invest in some better quality mattresses. You will have to lug your bags up a flight or two of stairs.

Very nice hotel...easy walk from Piazza Roma so it is convenient for parking and/or bus service. The photographs overstate it's brightness and there was no outdoor breakfast space. Breakfast was extremely ordinary and served in the hall infront of the front desk. This is not the impression one gets from the pictures. Service was good, but crisp. That being said, the rooms are very comfortable and airconditioned and the overall value is very good. Ristorante Ribot is nearby and is highly recommended.

We enjoyed our stay here. Breakfast was served to us in our room and was awesome! We stayed here for our anniversary and received a bottle of champagne on the house, delicious! We would have enjoyed staying here one more day but our schedule would not allow it. If we go to Venice again we will stay there. Just a warning:if it floods while you are there, make sure you plan on either using rubber boots or rolling up your pants to walk out of the hotel. The day we left it flooded and water was blocking our path, I had boots from the day before but my husband rolled up his pants and walked through the water for about 1 block. It was a unique experience to stay in Venice during the flood. This was one of our favorite places to stay while touring the country of Italy. The difficult part for us was initially finding the place! Go and Enjoy! This b&b has a few rooms with a private bath, I made the mistake of booking a triple room because I thought it was the only room with a private bath, but we still paid for 3 people! That was my mistake, so thought I would let you know so you won't make that mistake too.

The hotel is in good position and good value for money. We had a room with a balcony which overlooked the coutyard and had a bit of canal view. The owner was friendly. The room was clean and quet.Close to carpark and easy to find. The hotel advertised a discount for the carpark, but did not said which carpark we had to park to get it.(we parked in the wrong one)despite that I would stay there again.

Welcome poor- very unfriendly chap greeted us. No dining room- breakfast served in very small room. Given the cost of this hotel (150 euros per night!), we could have got a London west end 5 star hotel, instead of a very poor 1-2 star hotel that this most definitely is.

Fantastic little gem. Since there were 3 of us, we had the biggest room in the hotel. Mind you there is only like 7 or 8 rooms total (from what I could see). We had a balcony that just peeked through to a small little canal, which was nice. The service was great, the breakfast was given to you in your room in the morning, and the staff was very friendly. Only about a 10 minute walk from the train station (Had a little trouble finding it at first, but friendly locals helped us out). I recommend this hotel to any couple or small family.

Although the room was clean and the hotel quiet, its low rating is due to two factors. Although I specifically emailed the hotel to verify that they accept credit cards (as one of your reviewers mentioned having to pay cash), once we got there, we were told the machine was broken and we would have to pay cash. It took 3/4 of the cash we brought with us to pay this bill and it was the first days of our vacation! Also, when we asked the night clerk to try the machine again as we would be happy to pay in advance if the machine worked, we got the cold shoulder from the owner the next day. In addition, although the weather was fine, we were told we could not take our breakfast down to the the outdoor tables even though that is part of their advertising and one reason for our decision to book this hotel. So we had to eat in our room (small). The coffee was good, the bread was bad (dry processed--not Italian bread) Although the owner eventually became friendly again, the money issue was a real negative and made our budgeting tight for the remainder of the trip. The "credit card machine is broken" is a scam as we suspected right away. Restaurants were also pulling this AFTER meals were finished. Evidently merchants don't want to pay the credit card fee, but want to draw customers in by posting the credit cards they supposedly take. Just a warning to those counting on paying by credit card rather than cash advances or debit cards....

I had room number 107 right behind the reception. You cannot imagine how surprised I was to find that this is actually the quietest place I stayed in Venice for years. As it is in the Dorsoduro district, it is not far from Piazzale Roma where all the busses arrive. But those who would want to spend most of the day in the San Marco District, they need to be fit. If you are used to a "continental" breakfast, you will be disappointed, although the capuccino is just excellent. But then again I wouldn't go to Venice in order to have breakfast there. This hotel is luxury for its quietness and for its beautiful surroundings, which I am sure you will take advantage of especially in summer (a nice green Corte, where I guess breakfast is served in summer). O.k. the price was a bit on the expensive side (280 for 3 days). But for someone who would like to relax after a hard day, this is the right thing. I looked into VENERE before I went there and the "8"-rating is fully justified!

GREAT experience... Hotel was located closer to Piazzo Roma than the Canale Grande, which was great for us b/c we didn't have to walk across the city with our luggage. Plus, we got to know more of the city b/c we had to walk through more of it each day. Great staff, good breakfast (included!) Would definitely recommend this hotel!

It was great staying here. With friendly and great staff managing the hotel, it made my travelling more enjoyable. If it's not for the luggage and bridges, it would be a nice 7-10 mins walk from the Bus Terminal/ Train Station. But it's Venice, there's nothing I can complain about! The room was really really nice, the bathroom was clean, comfy + big bed, Tv with CNN (it does make a difference!). Breakfast was brought to the room on time as requested. Overall it was a very pleasant stay!

First impressions weren't great - we found the hotel eventually in a funny little alleyway. No entrance, just a gate and a set of steep steps leading to a tiny reception. The rooms were also relatively large but attic rooms with not enough headroom for our tall family. But the stay was redeemed by the wonderful staff, spotless cleaning and as it turned out a very handy location.

Nice hotel. Very clean. Very convenient to train. Hotel is a little distance from St. Marks but that was perfect as it gave ample opportunity to roam Venice. Staff recommended dining & was very helpful. Breakfast was brought to the room exactly when we requested. There were three us of and we had an upstairs room which was very nice with skylights that opened. Hotel is a little hidden but just far enough off the main streets to be peaceful and cose enough to a rather busy street so dining options were plentiful. Locations was secure with a gate to enter the courtyard before the hotel. Others have complained it is hard to find and it is not well marked but if you pay attention to the map they provide with the booking confirmation, it is very easy to find. There is no elevator and the hotel is one floor up. I recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

Its a real shame there is no where to have breakfast, or get a coffee. It was too cold in the morning to sit out side for breakfast and there are no common areas or rooms inside for this. One small coffee is not enough in a morning. Also no eggs, cheese or meat just a coissant, one slice of toast and a french toast. For this reason I doubt we will stay again although the location is quite good, and there are afew nice restaurants very near.

Very poor breakfast and very high price. We had resevated room for three, but we got douple room with an extra bed. Breakfast and towels and everything we had hardly for two... We were there six nights. Shampoo run out in second day and later even toiletpaper. They didn't change bed-sheets for us about that six days. Worst hotel we have ever been in Italy, big disappointment.

Locanda Gaffarro was a lovely little hotel, situated in Plaza de Roma. The staff was very friendly and provided breakfast in your room each morning with great coffee, breads and pastries. The hotel is about a 20 minute walk to Piazza San Marco and the walk is woven through different alleyways where you can get a nice glass of wine or a bite to eat on the way. This place is away from all the hustle and bustle of San Marco Plaza which was really nice. Plus, plaza roma is a cozy little place with lots of restaurants, bars and things to do and see. We even found a karoke bar one night, about a 5 minute walk from the hotel! This hotel was in a great location, the staff was very friendly, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone staying in Venice!!

Aware that we were struggling to haul our suitcases up the long outside staircase to access the hotel, the proprietor neither helped nor offered to help. He didn't even attempt to open the heavy front door for us. The price we were quoted, he told us, was only good if we paid in cash; there was an unexpected 5% surcharge for using plastic. Compared with the owners of the two other places we stayed during our trip to Italy, this fellow was unhelpful and a shade less than honest.

The hotel was very easy to find, and really convenient for a late bus drop-off and pick-up. its about a 15 minute walk into the centre of Venice ie San Marco, Rialto, etc, all the highlights. the inconveniences were that we had to pay cash, something i wasnt informed of until i arrived, and did not feel comfortable doing, but was told i had no choice. also, at various times the owner/manager (im not sure) would leave, and as the only way to get into the hotel is to be buzzed in, i was left in the cold for 2 hours 1 night, outside the front door until he returned. also, although the reception is '24 hour', if you come back after about midnight you have to practically yell to wake someone up to get buzzed-in. after doing this one night, the manager was rude to us for the rest of our stay. the rooms were great, and breakfast was fair (croissants, coffee, toast - in the room), but the hotel felt like a dorm or college, and i was always worries about missing the 'curfew' in case i was stuck outside. all in all, a convenient hotel for late night arrivals and departures, but the staff were too uncaring, or often mean, to make the hotel recommendable.

We went to Venice with another couple to celebrate out 25th wedding anniversaries. We were very pleased with Locanda Gaffaro. It is in a nice, quiet area of Venice, but very convenient to sites and transportation. We had a very small room the first night but were assured we would be moved to a bigger room and we were--one with a balcony overlooking the small square. It was very pleasant. The people at the hotel were helpful, although a few times we asked for a caffe but were told the machine was not available. The major drawback of the hotel is that there are no public spaces (at least in the colder months) so there is nowhere to gather with friends and enjoy a bottle of good Italian wine. However, the weather was so nice when we were there that we could use our balcony. All in all, we really liked the hotel and certainly would go back there and would recommend it without reservation.

This place was excellent. I stayed in many different hotels in Italy for about the same price and some for more. I liked this hotel the best of all of them. The owner is very nice and helpful. The rooms are very clean and well designed and decorated. The breakfast is typical italian breakfast, but it is served in a pretty little courtyard. The location is good and in the center of Venice. It is a little short walk from the train station just make sure you can roll or carry your suitcase over the stairs on a couple bridges. I would definately stay here again, and recommend it to my friends.

This is a charming, European-style hotel, situated behind an iron gate, surrounded by flowers and vines. Our small room was connected to a nice balcony, overlooking a quiet street with the soothing sounds from the fountain, and a view of a nearby canal. It was nice to sit on the balcony and watch the gondolas go by. Breakfast was very nice, with great cappucino, fresh pastries and yogurt. They even served breakfast in bed to our sleepy teens! The bathroom was very nice - big towels and a great shower, but do bring your own shampoo and soap as the stuff provided is not of very good quality. My only complaint is that the A/C is just too loud. I am a light sleeper, so even at home, I do not have A/C. But I have ceiling fans and window screens which makes for a quiet, comfortable sleep without that awful buzz of mosquitoes. I would stay here again, but I'd probably get two rooms if I were bringing my older teens with me again.

We stayed at a one star for 90E in venice which didn't have the tv or minibar that Locanda Gaffaro did but we preferred our stay there. The room at LG was very small and right off the lobby so sound was a bit of an issue, it didn't feel very private. However, the location was great for our early departure. Locanda Gaffaro is a well situated cleanly kept B+B location. It is not a hotel. The room is tiny and you have to live from your suitcase. All necessary facilities are actually there, and the room were perfect for one person, but we were a couple. The greeting was not a welcome but a gruntling. The young staff was a pleasure to deal with, but the old man is short of disaster.

We had a wonderful stay at Laconda Gaffaro. The staff (Piero and Dario) were extremely friendly and helpful. They recommended hidden gems for dinner and opera. They also helped us with arranging bus/train travel and in working out a problem we had with lost luggage. Piero's sense of humor was a treat everytime we went in and out. The location was perfect, quieter than San Marco, Academia, and the Carnereggio, but close to everything. I especially liked being close to the University and Campo de San Margharita. There were inexpensive little pizza/kabon places, some excellent galleries, and bars. It was also nice to be close (but not feel close) to the bus/train stations. The room was romantic in its simplicity. The church bells and birdsongs made it very peaceful. Breakfast was simple and served in the room. It was a good way to start the day. The bathroom was modern and clean. The heating fine. My only complaint was no internet. It was very difficult to use the internet at Cafe Blue (which is the only free and close place). Overall, we had a wonderful time, I wholeheartedly recommend staying at Laconda Gaffaro.

Really wonderful - very comfortable bed and so quiet. Excellent directions on how to get there, very important in Venice. Very minor niggles - not sufficient lighting in the room, and while having breakfast served in the room was great (and made us get up) there wasn't a table or annywhere to put things. Would have been nice if orange juice had been included with the breakfast too. However, these are very minor, and we would definitely go back there again. In fact, we can't wait!

The room was very neat and clean. The hotel is in a residential area and difficult to find. The best way to reach the hotel from the station is to take the vaporette to Bus Station and then it is a short walk from there. OUR ONLY GRUDGE WAS THE RECEPTION. INORDER TO REACH THE RECEPTION AND EVENTUALLY TO THE ROOM, ONE HAS TO CLIMB UP THE STAIRS (NO LIFT AVAILABLE). WE HAD TWO HEAVY BAGS AND THE HOTEL HAD NOBODY TO HELP US TAKE THEM UP. ALSO, AFTER THE CHECKOUT, THE RECEPTION REFUSED TO ALLOW CHILDREN TO USE THE RESTROOM. THIS, WE THOUGHT, WAS RUDE CONSIDERING THAT THE REQUEST WAS MADE BY A CHILD.

Realizing that many European hotel rooms are smaller than those we Americans are used to, the fact that the Gaffaro staff crammed a 4th bed into a room already too small for 3 and called it a quadruple really ruined the stay for us. The room would have been charming for 2. We had the one room with a balcony, which was very nice. The room itself was pleasant, with lovely marble floors and beautiful curtains. The lack of space, however, was extremely uncomfortable. With the bags taking every available inch of floor space, it was impossible to get to the beds or into the bathroom. The reception desk was staffed by a different person every time we passed by, and service was inconsistent. We would not stay here again.

We were pleased with the internet site, and all aspects of booking through Venere.com. The hotel's own website provided excellent directions for finding it. Poor weather meant that we could not have breakfast as a group as the only facility for this is an open air courtyard, so we had to have breakfast in our rooms - not ideal, but not a great problem. Sr Giangasparo and his son were most welcoming and provided helpful advice, for example about restaurants. The location was very quiet, yet handy, with waterbus stops and a good choice of restaurants only 5 minutes walk away. We will definitely book the Locanda Gaffaro if we return to Venice.

We traveled Europe for 3 weeks and this was by far the best hotel we stayed in. It was a little hard to find, but we found Venice hard to navigate anyway. The hotel looks as though it was recently remodeled. Lovely marble floors, GREAT bathroom with new tub and shower, comfortable beds and even satelite TV to watch CNN and catch up a little. The best feature was the airconditioning which worked very well and was much appreciated in August. Breakfast was lovely--offered outside in the garden, or on our own lanai. We would stay there again.

Excellent location - but do look it up on the map beforehand. Very easy to get to from Place de la Roma - get the airport bus - its much cheaper. The surrounding area has much better value restaurants than the rest of Venice. Excellent hotel.

Everything was perfect, starting with the directions to get to the hotel. With the winding streets and canals of Venice finding the hotel could have been problematic but wasn't. Upon our arrival, the front desk answered all of our questions and escorted us to our room. Location is quiet but yet close enough to the vaporetti and Piazzale Roma. The hotel even accomodated us by serving breakfast early in our room on our day of departure. This was at their suggestion. I would highly recommend Locanda Gaffaro when in Venezia.

Hotel easy to find, only made one error, one bridge was not mentioned on instructions, station about 10-15 minutes walking distance. Breakfast adequate: set on a tray inc. cheese, jams and different breads. Would use this hotel again was ideal for our holiday.

As stated in other reviews, this was difficult to find even though I knew it beforehand. Breakfast was disappointing (no juice). I didn't think the staff was very friendly. But it was very clean and quiet.

A lovely little hotel situation close enough to the train and bus stations to enable you to walk there. A little hard to find on your first journey to the hotel, but after that finding the courtyard was no problem. The staff were friendly and the coffee was delicious. We would stay here again and will recommend it to others.

This is a family owned B&B hotel. It is very well maintained in all aspects. Weather permitting you may have your breakfast in a very nice outdoor patio. The personal is friendly and competent. Location is excellent. The hotel is in 10 min walk from parking garage (with just one bridge), a little bit more from railroad station, 15 min from nearest boat dock and ~30 min of very nice walk to Piazza San Marco through real Venice. Hotel does not have an elevator so you should be prepared for handling your luggage. If this is not a problem, then do not hesitate to stay there. You will not be disappointed.

The map and the description of how to find the hotel were useless - a much more detailed map is needed and descriptions should use clearly visible names and places

I'd recommend this hotel during warm non-rainy season. When it rains there was no possibility to get breakfast except in the room where is no space for eating. However quality vs. price relationship is very good and surroundings very quiet. A nice choice.

Our stay at Locanda Gaffaro was too short. It was a lovely hotel. Our room had a small balcony and breakfast was delivered to our room. We never received the e-mail the hotel owner swore he sent us so locating the place was a little tricky. It is back in a courtyard off the main path so be sure to get good directions before you go. The room was a little small for a family of four but the location was great. I would happily stay here again.

No elevator - many steps, extremely difficult with luggage. Air conditioning DID NOT WORK! Windows could not be opened because there are no screens and mosquitos are abundant in Venice in summer. We did not sleep. Also, our room was near the front desk. We heard numerous kitchen sounds - dishes and pots banging - very early as well as late. Even with directions, we had an extremely hard time finding this place, and ran into another family on our way out who were struggling with directions. We had to show them the way in. Price was good, but would not recommend at all.

This is a well-run small hotel in a quiet part of Venice away from the tourist mobs. Access from (and to) the railway station is quite good. The owner (and his son) try very hard to be helpful. We were very pleased indeed!

This hotel is excellent. Is right in the centre of venecia (and not in mestre), so you ar at a walking distance to everything. Is just a few minutes away from the bus and the train station. The people is friendly and speak english, the rooms are very clean and nice. The price was also excellent. I recomend alot this hotel

The service was wonderful, helpful and friendly. The room, however had slopey ceilings and it was hard in several places to stand upright (and I am not a tall person). If my partner had been with me he would not have been able to stand up in this room. The breakfast, while pleasant was not very plentiful. A buffet with some fruit and yogurt would have been much nicer.

Value for money. Small but very comfortable. Owners very welcoming and helpful. Very clean. Position off the main tourist area but well situated for access to all main attractions. Would recommend this Hotel as a good base as there are some very pleasant market squares and places to eat or just take coffee mixing more with the locals than other fellow tourists. BUT the Hotel can be a little difficult to find as it is tucked away in the corner of the square as marked on the map and easily over looked. VENICE be warned ..... being a seasoned visiter to the area over the years I was shocked to see how expensive it has become to eat here..... (after an absence of only a few years) and the quality of food. In my opinion the food quality has become very poor and bland which is a pity as I have eaten here in the past extremely well(and I am not talking about that eating in cheap dives!!!!) So, be prepared. Apart from that Venice is still a wonderful place of extreme architectural and historical interest and beauty .... a place to visit at least once .... oh and don't be fooled by the Marino Glass .... a lot now comes from CHINA !!!!! ...... ENJOY

Locanda Gaffaro provides nice, clean rooms in a neatly tucked away area of Venice. I'm always a little weirded out by the thick, padded wallpaper (since it usually hides moldy walls), but the room didn't smell. The bathroom was obviously newly remodeled and very welcome compared to most european hotel bathrooms. The walks to and from our tourist destinations were easy and there were always good stores, bars and restaurants to provide distraction along the route. The continental breakfast in the morning was okay, nothing to write home about...the coffee was good. If you drive into Venice, this hotel is located within an easy walking distance of the garages.

A little gem of a Locanda. Very quiet, with a charming and helpful owner. An excellent continental breakfast.. Location a plus as near bus station and Vaporetti stops and restaurants but in a secluded neighbourhood. We give Locanda Gaffero the top recommendation.

We had a fantastic trip to Venice and both Easyjet and Locanda Gaffaro were excellent. We found the hotle tucked into a small side street which was very quiet and very close to the main bus depot making our transfer from the airport to the hotel very easy. It also meant that we could return quickly after a very tiring day walking! I would definately recommend this hotel to anyone. From the price to the room, it was all perfect and we will remember our trip to Venice for a very long time. Thank you Locanda Gaffaro.

I stayed in a small but perfectly suitable room considering that I spent most of my time walking around in Venice with my friends. The staff were very welcoming and the room was spotless! The area is very nice and well located. Once I booked on-line, I got very precise instructions on how to find the place: these were most useful and I had absolutely no difficulty in locating the Locanda. I would definitely stay there again.

The hotel is very cute and the attic room we had was very nice and spacious. However, other family members had a rather small room and despite their ad for only "real" beds one was more of a cot. The breakfast was rather light and as many others have said, it was difficult to find. A larger sign would help.

We really enjoyed staying at Locanda Gaffaro. The facilities were spotlessly clean and in excellent condition. We liked the location, being in a quiet and safe area away from the bustle of the crowds near San Marco, the Rialto bridge, etc. Yet everything in Venice was very accessible either by walking or using the vaporetti (water buses). They sell 3-day passes for the water buses at the hotel desk, and they were a good value (22Euro). There were little bars and restaurants nearby, and a campo (square) with a grocery store within an easy walk. The staff gave good answers to our questions. The breakfast was delivered to our room because it would have been chilly to serve in the little courtyard. Breakfast was simple and small, so we bought a few items (fruit, juice) and kept them in the room refrigerator to augment. Room size was small by American standards, but this is what we expected. We are a couple of somewhat modest means who look for good value in the hotel so that we have money to spend on good food, admissions to museums, some souvenirs and gifts, etc. Our credit card was not charged until we checked out of the hotel. We recommend this hotel.

Great family owned hotel located close to train station and grand canal, but email for directions and travel light as you have to take suitcases up and down stairs over grand canal and another small bridge. Safe family neighborhood with local shops and restaurants a few steps from hotel. Owner's father checked us in; knows the city well so take advantage of his wit and wisdom. About 15-20 minute interesting walk from St. Marks with lots of local shops, markets and plazas along the way. Cheap pizza stand close to hotel (just over the little bridge and then to the right). Room alittle crowded as we had to have two single beds in addition to queen bed but was fine, especially with balcony and airy windows on both sides of room. Bathroom modern with hair dryer and other amenitites. Breakfast area outside was nice with good pastries and coffee/cappucino. Will definitely stay here again on another trip to the magical city of Venice.

I am a single, female traveller and enjoyed my stay at the hotel. It is highly recommended that you email the hotel before arrival, as they provide a map and written instructions of how to reach it, which I found extremely useful. Had I not had such information, I would probably have found the hotel difficult to find. From the airport, you can get a bus directly to the Piazzale Roma (3 euros), and the hotel is 5-7 minutes walking distance from there. Transfer this way is approx. 35 minutes, unlike the 1-2 hours by vaporetto as experienced by other tourists I talked to who were staying in the San Marco area. The staff speak excellent English are very helpful and welcoming. The hotel is located in a very quiet neighbourhood, and I felt perfectly safe in the evening. It is about 10 minutes walk from the Zarrete area, which has really nice restaurants and a view over the lagoon. Very nice of an evening. San Marco is about a 20 minute walk away. The hotel is a strange shape on the upstairs, as you are in the eves and anyone 6ft plus would have difficulty in walking in some areas. I however, thought this all added to its charm. Breakfast is adequate and is either served in your room in the garden. I had a lovely stay here and in magnificent Venice and would have no hesitation of recommending it to anyone or staying there again myself.

Very pleasant environment once we found it. Direction were good until we missed the right turn into the courtyard and ended up on the canal totally lost. Room was spacious & spotless, bathroom was modern & clean. Location was perfect--less than 10 minutes from trains station. Mattress firm & comfy, sheets 100% cotton, pressed & spotless. Breakfast served in garden was delightful & cozy with the fragrant floral in abundance. Loved it!

We booked this hotel after reading a review from a couple who had also stayed there with one child. We requested the same room as them which had a balcony. We found the hotel fairly easy to find unlike some others and we thought the location was excellent. The hotel staff were very friendly and very welcoming. We highly recommend staying!
