Staff friendly & helpful. We found this ideally positioned hotel to explore the Venetian canacl side situated within easy reach of St Mark's square. Good value for money. We were in room 2 which had a typical courtyard view and was very clean & comfortable. The continental breakfast was typical of that provided by the smaller hotels and we would definitely stay again.

Poorly staffed at site. One employee, a woman at the desk was very unpleasant. Haven't generally had that kind of interaction in hotels. Wouldn't go back. Very tiny room for 2 people. Not uncommon in less expensive places in Venice, but less than most.

lovely lady Neve at reception, our oom was very nice and large, alough very cold, heating not adequate. There was no duvet on the bed, found one in the wardrobe it was very thin and very stained. Venice is a beautiful place but very overpriced and the food is terrible.

Huge room and bathroom, and very quiet. On the first night we were the only guests, and no staff either so quite unusual, glad I wasn't on my own. Hotel was managed by another nearby hotel which caused us a few problems getting checked in, but very spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was late, which held us up on our last morning, but otherwise no problems. Very handy location for sightseeing.

The hotel was very quiet and cozy, and the location was excellent. We found the staff friendly and the room very comfortable (though ours was rather small). Definitely recommended.

We felt so lucky to have found this hotel. It is in a quiet, tucked away canal that is very near all of the most popular parts of Venice including Piazza Saint Marco. The rooms are lovely and the area where breakfast is served is spacious and beautiful. Staying at this hotel enhanced our experience in Venice.

Conclusion; A EVITER, cher, chambre décevante et gérante impolie et agressive.

This is a lovely small quiet hotel located close to major points like St Mark's Square, Grand Canal and Accademia. The small team of staff is very friendly and homely, good for a chat and information. The pace of Venice is agreeably slow and quiet; it was wonderful to hear birdsong in the squares. The only advice I would give to visitors to this hotel is to make sure you make all your enquiries about services in the hotel in the morning, as there are no staff at the hotel in the evenings. One night we really needed the airconditioning on, but there was no-one available to ask how to get it to work - our room had a different system to other rooms apparently, it required a remote control, which had been taken from the room. One other thing to beware of- one night we found a tiny one inch scorpion in the bathroom! So remember to put your shoes on if you have to make a trip to the loo in the night.

We stayed at Hotel Locanda Barbarigo for 2-nights, in late March 2009. We first heard about the hotel from the positive reviews on Venere.com. The reviews did not steer us too wrong. The map provided was easy to follow (even for my mother and me). The location was 7-10 min walking distance from the waterbus stop. The male concierge was really nice, hospitable, and even offered up a recommendation for a moderately-priced, excellent dinner place (which we frequent both nights)! The only issue I had was our room. It was situated right outside of the dining area, even though I required it away from the kitchen / dining area. Lucky for us, breakfast was served at the other hotel location, nearby. The bed took up virtually the whole room, which made walking over our luggage trying. The bathroom was a comfortable size, to our amazement. We personally loved the continental breakfast, with fresh baked (from their oven) croissants and great cafe lattes! I only felt guilty working the hostess by requesting extra croissants. Since we had an early flight out of Venice, they packaged a slight breakfast... very modest, and secretly wished that we could have stayed until later in the morning to enjoy the freshly-baked croissants. Overall, a decently priced place with cute charm and cozy B&B feel!

The place is fine, in the center of Venice and it is cheap. The room are small, but beautiful and clean. The only small defect is that just out of the rooms there is the place for the breakfast. So in the morning one can hear the noise of other people if you sleep more.

Prime Location in the heart of Venice, nice and helpful staff, good service, reasonable price. Breakfast is included and of good quality (per Italian standards). A bit confusing directions, few additional details will be helpful. The only disadvantage is the space of the room, actually lack of it. The king-size bed occupied probably 90% of the room. The situation is partly compensated by relatively large bathroom- we ended up keeping our bags there ;) We would come there again!

This was our first trip to Venice and staying at the Locanda Barbarigo made the experience perfect. It is very well located -- only a minute's walk from the vaporetto station. We were very lucky to get one of the very large rooms. It is a beautiful small hotel that was originally part of the Palazzo Barbarigo. It was quiet; in fact sometimes I wondered if anyone else was staying there (in fact, there were several other guests). We went to the Palazzo next door for a beautiful opera experience two nights in a row. I have recommended this hotel to many people in Italy, Egypt and the US. It was interesting, elegant, with lots of character. The owners are very nice. The owner put breakfast in our room the night before we left. That was very thoughtful. On the down side, in the neighborhood there were no internet places that were open. I had to go to the Rialto to send email messages. And the wake up call on the morning we left never happened. We barely made our train and were wearing our pajamas under our clothes. But for the price and quality of the accommodation, these were not huge problems for me. They do need to check to see what the problem is with the wake up call.

I defy anyone to find a better location at the price. The Grand canal is only a few metres away and St Marco a short walk. We could hear (and see bits of) the 'Opera in the Palazzo' performances from our window. Staff were very friendly, room very 'venetian'. I missed the hospitality tray that is common in some countries for tea & coffee in the room.

Rolando (Chile)

The staff was very welcoming at check in and at breakfast. They even offer a service to let you leave your baggage in the lobby the day of check out, so that you have more time to explore the beautiful city. The room was such a great deal and had so much room. The room was very clean and had much character. The breakfast included in the morning was a delight too. There were a variety of options and the staff will make you coffee. Do be advised there is no internet access or pool, so if those are important you may be happier elsewhere. I highly recommend staying at Locanda Barbarigo. We had a fabulous time.

We loved this quiet Venice hotel. Conveniently located near a vaporetto stop, very quiet, close to San Marco, and very nicely kept. Note, the double standard room is very small, but the attached bath was sparkling and of a decent size by Italian standards. The AC worked perfectly which always helps in the summer heat. Breakfast provided was nice, and you can't beat the location.

I found this hotel to be excellent value for money. Positioned just a 5 minute walk from San Marco Square was ideally placed. Had a tiny problem locating the sister hotel as i arrived after 8pm, could of done with a map showing the location with the instructions on the door. Interior was to a high standard. My bedroom was small, not surprising being situated in venice and bathroom was of an adequate size. Breakfast was croissant/cereal and drink, typical continent breakfast. Staff were very friendly and always said hello/goodbye whilst entering/leaving hotel. In my room if you opened the window early evening you could here the local theatre' Opera, a cheaper alternative.

We were very happy with our stay in the Hotel but we did have problems finding the place and when we finally did find it there was a note on the door telling us to go to another hotel which was further away - there is nobody on reception or answering the phone after 8pm in the Hotel - I think that there should at least be a call forwarding service on the phone such that at least you get an answer - it would have helped us alot to actually talk to somebody. The only other issue was with the air conditioning - it kept switching on and off and made sleeping difficult - we tried everything to stop it and the only thing that worked was opending the window. Other than those 2 issues we had a fantastic w/end in the Hotel Locanda and in Venice and we would highly recommend it to everybody. We actually booked tickets for an Opera and a classical music concert through the hotel and there were the highlights of our trip - the best being the Opera - LA Traviata which was literally upstairs from the Hotel.

Good hotel for the price you pay in Venice. We stayed 2 nights, the perfect amount of time to experience Venice. The hotel is on a small street off the beaten path but not far from everything you will need (vaporetto stop, st mark's, rialto and accademia bridge). Be prepared to carry luggage up steps. and the room we booked was very small but the bathroom was large. The service was very helpful and informative and they worked very hard to make your stay nice. The owner worked very hard and was very happy to tell us places to eat. The breakfast was small but sufficient compared to the other hotels Italian style breakfast (rolls, crossants, lunchmeat, cereal & yogurt). Overall I was very pleased with our stay.

It's a good hotel according to Venice which is really really expensive! I had the double superior room which is the biggest room in the hotel, and It was a perfect ans beautiful room. However, I was disapointed because I thought I would have a Grand Canal view, which was not the case. The hotel checking closes at 20h00, which is quite surprising because you open/close the main door of the hotel after that. But be sure that despite this little observations, you will be in a nice place. Furthermore, the owners are really welcoming, helpfull and very nice. This hotel is a very good choice and I would definitly come back next time!

The hotel is conveniently located near St. Peter's square. The room which we were given was the best (in terms of space, cleanliness, quality for price) we had in our trip to Italy, which covered Rome, Florence, Venice and Milan. The owner/receptionist was really helpful. If I return to Venice, I would surely like to stay there again.

This is a "Locanda" which, if I'm not mistaken, means "Guest House" or something like that. It's not a "full service" hotel. I arrived in time to check-in. If you don't however, you have to go to a different hotel nearby to get the key to your room. There's no "night staff". It's cute inside with some nice Venitian glass. The breakfast was basic and the service satisfactory. The location is excellent -- although somewhat hard to find to pay close attention to the directions provided by the hotel once you reserve. It's trick to find it the first time since it's not well marked. Venice, overall, is a tourist trap in my opinion. We stayed 1 day and two nights. That was "enough". The prices of Venice were easily much higher than the rest of Italy and were on par with Paris and London. The hotel, once again, was a great value, however -- assuming you don't need a lot of frills, services, internet, gym, fancy breakfast, etc. One disadvantage: we couldn't make good phone calls from the hotel room and were forced to use a public phone to make toll-free calls (calling cards).

Party of three occupied one double and one single room. Rooms were large and comfortable. Front desk was very helpful and welcoming. Rooms well serviced and breakfast was adequate. The walk up to the top floor is steep and a bit of an effort with bags but probably typical of this type of accommodation in Venice. Main drawback was limited phone access - hence the poor rating above for services and facilities. Calls to toll free numbers were barred which prevented both internet access by dial-up and access to calling card numbers. Reasons given for this lack of service were unconvincing.

The hotel has only 5 guest rooms and it is "tucked" away from the noisy / touristy parts of venice. There is no hotel staff at the desk after 8 pm, yet, they are available by phone after hours. The staff that was there during the day was EXCELLENT. The hotel is extremely clean, neat, and well organized.

This hotel is located within easy walking distance of the water taxi and was easy to find with the map and written directions provided. We felt, however, that it was overpriced for what it was. The breakfast buffet was below standard compared to those we had experienced across northern Italy over a four week period. Scatter mats in room were dirty and bathroom cleanliness on arrival was not up to par. Bedside lamps were not bright enough to be able to read by. Unfortunately, our Venice stay ended on a sour note upon departure when there was a dispute over the bill with the "manager" claiming that we owed 30 euros more than the rate we had booked in at and had quoted in the confirmation. He became quite rude shoving a paper with the higher price in front of my husband's face. My husband held his ground showing him a copy of our confirmation paper from Venere with the original price quoted and the "manager" finally threw up his hands. It seemed to us that he was merely trying to scam Venere's fee from unsuspecting tourists.

Room very spacious and clean. However, very poor facilities for storing clothes (one wardrobe only with no shelves for shirts, underclothes etc. Hangers had been donated ( or left ) by previous occupants. Breakfast rolls not fresh and poor in quality. Room (superior) looked out into a narrow courtyard with neighbours only eight metres away and no privacy with the window open. Having said that, we enjoyed our stay very much, although the room rate was vastly overpriced. May I suggest that an adequate map is provided for first-time visitors - we asked five local people at the end of the fondamenta and only one could direct us to the hotel, no-one else even knew that it was there !

The Locanda Barbarigo is a little hard to find initially, but it was raining at the time which didn't help! The staff were always polite and helpful, and our room, a 'double superior' called 'Colombina' on their website, was positively huge by Venetian standards, very quiet, clean and comfortable. Considering the room, staff and location this Locanda is a real delight, and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone. The next time we go to Venice it will be at the top of my accomodation list.

Staff were extremely courteous & helpful. Our room was a good size and overlooked the canal which is what we asked for. The only problem we did have was with the heating, it was either very hot or very cold! Breakfast was typical continental type, but plenty on offer. Should we visit Venice again, we would definately consider this hotel. It was very central and close to everything we wanted to see & do.

It's redecorated but no elevator. You have to carry your own loggage upstairs. There are three of us, so they offer us a top floor actually facing the center. The room got a living room and a double bed room. So my friend is actually sleeped on the sofabed in the living room, which is not very comfortable. Also there is no heating in the living room so we have to keep our door open and turn the heating very strong so that he can feel a little worm. We told the situation to the staff but they done nothing. And we have stayed 3 days but they didn't change the sheet but only make the bed. Also they didn't fulfill enough shampoo. The breakfast is quite good though. But there is no one after 8 pm so we can't get hot water after that. I don't think I will go back again.
