Excellent location. Some of the staff are more welcome and informative than others. In general, staff are friendly and helpful. One not so good thing is no elevator.

We loved the location of the hotel and the ambience. The staff all spoke English and were very helpful--especially in getting our suitcases up three flights of stairs. We had difficulty finding the hotel, The access street was not the one listed in the guidebook. We asked several people and received different directions from each. It was hot, and we were lugging heavy bags and went way out of our way looking for it. Once we found it, it was very easy to access and very close to out water bus stop. More specific directions in the hotel literature would be a big plus!

Unfortunately the hotel Locanda Al Leon was a lot worse than we could even imagine. it should have been rated with a negative rating

This is a very nice little hotel that is close to St. Mark's Square and the vaporetto stop. The main desk was very helpful. Our room was spacious and the bathroom was clean. Breakfast was fine too. We stayed 2 nights.

This pleasant hotel is conveniently located just down a small narrow street from the San Marco San Zaccaria ACTV (water bus) stop. The lobby is very small, as are the rooms, however the staff are helpful and most speak English quite well. All rooms are up at least one level, and we did not see a lift. Furnishings are typical Venetian style and should be adequate for most. Wireless internet is available, although the procedure to access is somewhat strange. The breakfast was a bit short on variety but good and served in a very friendly manner. We have had better hotels in Venice, however for the money and the time of year it was a reasonable value. This hotel is extremely well placed and easy to find. Right next to Doges palace and few minutes from public water bus. There is a square next to it containing various trattorias, a chinese, cafe and bar. We would definately stay here again if visiting Venice. Probably the easiest small hotel to find in the whole of Venice.

Very good hotels as said in previous comment here (That make me choose this one). Staff very kind, the womand (the owner, I guess) give us a map of Venice marking some point of interest and giving some suggestion in very friendly way. The breakfast is good, the only one exception to the hotel is the room were it was served was very little, but, due to the number of rooms, it was not a big problem. Very good relationship between price/quality, choose it!

My husband and I really enjoyed staying at Locanda al Leon in Venice, Italy. It was very conveniently located from the water taxi stop. We walked to the hotel in less than 5 minutes. The man at the front desk (I believe he is the owner) was extremely welcoming. He carried all of our bags to our rooms since the hotel does not have an elevator but that was not a problem for us. When we checked out, he came to our room and brought our luggage down and allowed us to keep our suitcases with them for the morning and afternoon, until we departed Venice Island to go to the mainland. The breakfast was not bad. It consisted of a roll of bread and I believe a pastry, coffee and juice. Basic but satisfactory. The price of the hotel is high, however, compared to the other hotels in Venice, it was the most inexpensive that I found. It is conviently located very close to San Marco Square and Basilica and the rooms and bathroom were very clean. Great deal that I highly recommend!

The Locanda Al Leon has one big plus: its location. But sadly there are several negative things that makes this hotel just average. When we arrived, the young man at the front desk could hardly speak English. He sort of mumbled to himself, in Italian so that we didn't really know what he wanted; he wasn't very friendly or helpful. The rooms look nice (Venetian style, just like on the pictures), very clean; ask for a room to the back, the "Campo" outside might be loud in sjmmer. Once, when we got back to the hotel, after hours in the cold to warm ourselves a bit, the temperature in the room was 16 degrees Celsius, because the "padrone" decided that we had heated our room too much, so he just turned it down when we were away. We didn't like that at all! Also, you don't get a key to the building, so you have to ring a bell whenevery gou get to the hotel, and often there was a little note, "we'll be back in 5 minutes", which wasn't very nice when it was cold. The breakfast service was very basic, but okay. It was served in the room on a little tray, the breakfast room wasn't open in winter.

WOW!!!! I can't say enough great things about this little hotel! This was by far the best experience we had on our recent trip through Germany, Spain, France, and Italy. Stayed in Mid-January and thought we got a good price on what we expected to be a small boring room. We couldn't have been more wrong. We got an absolutely incredibly low price on a gorgeous room on the upper floor with our own private balcony overlooking the roof lines of Venice and a thoroughly clean, modern, and nice room! The staff went out of their way to make our stay wonderful, and I can't begin to say how awesome the location is! From the outside it certainly doesn't look like much, but don't let that fool you. The location is so convenient to get to from the water ferries and is right around the corner from St. Mark's square. Please don't expect the Four Seasons, but at the price we paid, I almost felt guilty! The breakfast room looked like it might be a little crowded during the summer months when more poeple stay there, but the lady who worked in there and waited on us was absolutely wonderfully helpful even if we couldn't speak her language very well, and she bent over backwards to see to it that everyone was happy. Super convenient location, super helpful staff, modern clean rooms, and good breakfast every morning.

Great location a short walk to St Mark's Square. The room was very quiet despite looking out on the charming small square with shops and restaurants. The only downside was the breakfast which was very basic and the smallness of the breakfast room on the top floor though a nice touch was being able to have breakfast in your room at no extra cost.

We had a fantastic stay at this hotel. From the moment we arrived the staff were very helpful and welcoming and assisted us with all of our requests. The front office manager made two fantastic recommendations for dinner both nights which were close to the hotel and served great food. The hotel was located in an excellent position - a 5 minute walk from St Mark Squares. I would definately recommend this hotel to future travellers visiting venice.

My husband and I stayed in Venice for 2 nights. The location of the hotel couldn't be better, right next to Doge's Palace on San Marco square. Hotel is small but very cosy and charming. Room and bath are sparkling clean. Breakfast is basic but the coffee is great. The receptionist was friendly, he helped us with our luggage, gave us a map and explained how to get to the places we wanted to see, and checked the train schedule for us when we were leaving. He also let us to keep luggage after check out. The only problem is that if you're a light sleeper, it could be noisy at night, as some windows face the small plaza with the restaurants and cafe, but if you keep the windows closed, it shouldn't be an issue. Overall stay was great and we will return back if in Venice again.

The location was excellent! The staff were friendly. You cannot beat the location. We were able to experience St. Mark's square at night (an opportunity not to be missed!) because we were so close. Rooms are very quiet. Not a huge fan of the decorating and teh carpet needs redone, but otherwise and really nice place.

When we checked into the hotel, we asked to extend our stay if they had rooms available. They let us stay in a small apartment for the whole week- it was about a five minute walk away from the hotel. So we didnt actually stay at the hotel, but another property owned by them. It was clean, well maintained and in a great location. The staff at the hotel were very nice and even though we were not staying on site, we still stopped in to ask questions about the city. Breakfast was still provided in the main hotel and very nice relative to european breakfasts. Overall we had a great time and would stay there again.

This was the first trip to Venice for our teenage children and they wanted to stay centrally, close to the Piazza San Marco. This hotel is very close to the Piazza and an easy walk, even with luggage, from the vaporetto stop. It is on a small square that gets very busy and noisy between about 8 AM and 10 PM but is quiet at night. If you want to stay close to the Piazza, this is a nice place. For lovely sights away from the crowds head east from Locanda Al Leon to Campo San Zacarria or north toward Campo Santa Maria Formosa.

Great place to stay. Close to everything. Easy to go back if you need to. This is the second time i have stayed here. The first time in a triple room, and this time in a double. Our room even had an upstairs loft for sitting. The stairs are the only part that isn't great. Three steep flights up can be a lot after a long day in Venice. Due to its central location, Casa al Leon (or Locanda al Leon or Leon2, which are all the same place), the rooms are noisy. The breakfast is poor, and strictly rationed (every person gets only one of each: toast, bun, butter, jam, small cereal box, and a miniature biscuit). I wasn't allowed to get extra bun and even if I was, I would still be hungry. The breakfast room is too small and people usually have to wait in line. Lack of elevator is a major disadvantage. Climbing with heavy luggage two stories is very difficult. One can easily get nicer hotels, which are better located for a lower price.

The room was quite spacious and spotlessly clean - It looked exactly as it did in the photo but was bigger than we expected. Both the shower and the air conditioning worked well and the location was great. The windows were double glazed and blocked out any noise at night, so although the hotel is very central, it was a peaceful place to stay. All the staff were polite and helpful and we would definitely stay there again.

This place was OK, not great, but way overpriced - especially since we were traveling in a group and there were no quads. The location is absolutely excellent, but other than that there was nothing really special about the hotel. Breakfast was very limited and area was tiny, so that sometimes people could not eat until others left. Since we found it's really easy and fun to get around, next time I would trade off to get a hotel not as convenient but much cheaper.

What a pleasant surprise this lovely place was! I had expected a rather small, cramped space, just a place to sleep really, and was delighted to find what would be more accurately called a charming inn or bed and breakfast, rather than a "hotel." We had two rooms for our family, a doube and a spacious triple. The staff was extremely courteous and caring, able to answer all questions, and must have communicated well with one another, because each new person on duty seemed to know exactly what we needed. The rooms were clean, pleasantly decorated in what they call "typical Venetian style," and the daily breakfast of cappucino, juice, croissants and rolls, and a selection of cereals and milk was quite satisfactory. Sometimes, because the place was booked solid, every table in the small breakfast room was occupied, though, and we had to wait for others to finish. But that was the only time we were aware of others in the building--the rooms are really soundproof, and we really had a sense of privacy and personal attention. There are a lot of stairs to climb to rooms on the third floor, which was fine for us but might be a consideration for others. The location may as well say "San Marco," even though technically it is in the Sestiere of Castello; it is literally one block from the Piazza San Marco. The actual street it's on is the Calle delle Albanesi (would have been REALLY helpful to know that when we were trying to find the place; we had to explore every street coming off the Campo to find the address. Maybe they should put this on the website.) The little Campo San Filippo e Giacomo is lively and if you want to take it easy and stay near the hotel once in a while, it offers plenty of decent choices for a snack, coffee, pizza, or gelato, and last-minute souvenirs. One bakery right in the same Calle as the hotel is the Pasticceria M. le Bonifacio. Unlike some others in the area, this one actually has the bakery on the premises. Also in the same Calle is t

The Casa Al Leon is superbly located near St. Marks Sq. and the San Zaccaria vaporetto stop. The rooms were extremely clean with superb bathrooms. Only drawbacks are the steep stairs (after a day of walking around Venice, you'll feel the strain!) and the small breakfast room (on the top floor) which was crowded. As I booked a twin room, we were given a single with extra bed on the top floor. Better to book a kingsize as it's two beds together. Loads of reasonable places to eat nearby.

This was the first time I used Venere and I was a little worried that perhaps the booking may not be there, however, everything went smoothly and I will definetly use Venere in the future. Casa Al Leon was exactly as per the description. The location is fantastic and the rooms were spotless and recently refurbished. We paid Euro 159 per night in October, which for Venice, wasn't too bad particularly in view of the location and quality of accomodation. There are no views from the hotel and it is not located on the water which actually ensures that the rooms are quiet. I would certainly recommend Casa Al Leon and the service offered by Venere.

This is a very small hotel at the end of an alley-like street, quite close to San Marco Square. There is a tiny reception area, no elevator, and the rooms go up three flights of stairs. The breakfast area is on the second floor landing. A very good breakfast, but only 3 tables, which sometimes required a wait. Our room, on the top floor, had been newly renovated and was nice. At the time we were there, we were told TV's has been removed from rooms, because the cable had been damaged. Because of the location, this hotel is probably good value for the price, if you don't mind its small spaces.

If you are looking for a nice and economic place to stay in Venice, that's the one! All the rooms are recently renovated and therefore nice and clean (actually they are still working on some of them), the staff is very nice and provide and excellent service and the Locanda is right behind the Basilica di San Marco and it takes you 2 minutes to get to the Piazza, what else can you expect?? the reason for such a random review is this, when i got to the hotel, all seemed well, and the hotel was very easy to check into and had nice staff, however after the first night there was a plumbing leak outside our room caused by our toilettes and shower, so we were forced to check out of the hotel! This i find to be extremely poor service.

What a wonderful surprise in Venice! The hotel is close to the St Mark Square & the Doge's Palace; the room was lavishly decorated, and the small bathroom was fully equipped. The staff was knowledgeable and extremely helpful and courteous. Breakfast was fair and the price was a bargain. A perfect place for a budget traveler to stay in Venice.

Excellent location at an excellent price. Good breakfast and right in the action, 3 minutes walk to San Marc's Piazza. Easy to find and very near the main piers. Nice breakfast and nice staff, airconditioning and a fridge in the room. We would go back there and would reccomend it to others.

Locanda Al Leon is in a great location-- a short walk to St. Mark's and the ferry stop. The hotel is on a quieter street, but with shops and restaurants right outside the hotel for convenience. The room was small, but nicely decorated and comfortable and clean. A/C helped alot too! I think it was a good value for pricey Venice. It was nice that someone was always at the front desk, which was helpful when we had to check out very early in the morning. We would stay here again.

I was very pleased with the location of the hotel, the ease of finding it, the cleanliness of the hotel and the breakfast was great! It had rained the day we arrived and we could not get into our room until after 2:00.We were very wet and the lobby is to small to wait.

the owner was wonderful and very helpful. The accommodations were very nice. It has been redecorated very tastefully. The breakfasts were the best that we had in Italy.

The hotel was a little hard to find based off the map and the reception area is a little cramped (but I imagine nothing can really be done about it. The building is small) BUT, the rooms were spacious, clean with comfortable beds and a small safety box. The bathrooms were brand new and comfortable. There were cautious regarding safety and had a safety lock on the entrance door as well as our rooms. The reception was very friendly and helpful in giving us information regarding transportation and the sights. The breakfast selection was a thorough continental breakfast with nice coffee. Will definately recommend this hotel to others. Location, quality and price was superb.

Stayed for 3 days in March. Hotel in brilliant position; very close to St Matk's Square, good restaurants and the vaporetto stop. Very easy to find, reception staff friendly and helpful, rooms beautifully decorated and clean, breakfast very good. Highly recommended!

This is a lovely hotel with warm, caring, people to run it. We were very close to San Marco square but not right on top of it - meaning that there was less noise and foot traffic. But it only took us about 4 minutes to get to the square. Everything else is really close too - and if you don't want to walk, the vaporetti stop is very close. I highly recommend this place.

The owner who speaks a little bit of French is very nice and his staff is very welcoming! The location is wonderful (very close to St Mark's place) Except one night spent in another room because of bathroom repairings (we had noisy Spanish neighbours!) our one-week stay was very great!! Thanks a lot! (I enjoyed my holidays...especially with my "cafone"!) Enjoy your stay!!

Excellent location. Very warm and friendly welcome. Room in the main hotel was noisy due to renovation works nearby. Problem was dealt with promptly and with courtesy and we moved to a room in the nearby annex. Equally excellent location and very quiet. We stayed off season (late January) and the rooms rates were exceptionally cheap for Venice.

It's a very nice little hotel with a personal athmosphere and very gentle staff. Only the breakfast room is a bit too small.

Excellent room with a nice and clean bathroom. It was hard to find the hotel lobby (as with many things in Venice). The street name is painted on the left of a wall, but you actually have to go right. The rooms are actually several blocks from the lobby itself (seemed odd). Location was very close to San Marco and nearby many restaurants and shopping sites.
