The hotel is well located within walking distance of everything worth visiting. However Venice streets are a nightmare and it is easy to get lost. Get very specific instructions on how to get to it. Street names don't mean a thing. The hotel is very small and in need of maintenance. The carpets are very dirty and bugs are everywhere.

This hotel was probably the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. It was old and delapitated, the toilet seat was broken, the shampoo/soap offered was the poorest quality. The SAFE did not work and staff could not get it to open. The breakfast was disgusting and the room rate was outrageous. After booking The Golden Tulip with you in Amsterdam this crappy hotel did not live up to ANY of our expectations! The mattress was horrible. A true disappointment. The lady running this hotel was very nice...I feel sorry for her having to work at this establishment.$180 Euros??? It was probably worth 50 Euros at best. JML

This hotel is a perfect stay in Venice, it's location is central to everything and it is well priced. For those people who have complained about having to lug luggage to their room, this is an old hotel in Venice so this is unavoidable. We will book this hotel again when we return to Venice.

Good stay at the Lanterne di Marco Polo. Comfortable, clean room with beds for 4 of us, so not much other available space. Minibar was useful after our late arrival when we needed refreshments. Breakfast adequate, but space didn't really allow for any more variety. Great location. Good for early morning forays into the city before the masses arrived. Late arrival via the neighbouring hotel went without a hitch, following previous notification. All satisfied. Good stay, thank you.

Best hotel of our stay in Italy. Everything went greatly and as planified, no bad surprises. The lady responsible saved us the room we ordered and was very kind explaining us everything we needed. Since the hotel is quiet, very warming and don't have so many rooms, we felt almost like home.

Travelled in a group of 4, so we took two rooms. Location is excellent, just between the Rialto and St Mark's Square (and this is the area that stays lively through the night, so you can go out at night and feel safe coming home). The receptionist works only in the day though and we didn't have much contact with her. (we arrived late and the receptionist of a neighbour hotel let us in, and we left early before she started work).

A lovely boutique hotel in a great location for seeing the city. The felted walls and original oak beam ceilings add to the charm of the place, which is great if you like your hotels small, but genuine.

The staff charged the rooms by my credit card without asking me first. I don't even have to sign and the progressing is successful and she didn't want cancel after I ask her to(Because we want to pay by cash). I don't think this action is allowed if the customers book rooms from Venere.

Nice small hotel. Breakfast is very simple , no warm dishes so if you need a big american breakfast you should look elsewhere. location could not be better, located in the middle between rialto and Piazza san marcos. The staff is very friendly. If you don't mind that the rooms are veeeeery small, this is a nice hotel to visit with your partner. Kids would not fit here though. to get here just follow the signs to Rialto, and from there follow the directions they send you by mail. (3 to 4 blocks away.

Location perfect. Staff friendly and helpful. Directions from rail station perfect. Rooms small on five or six floors with narrow, steep stairs. No elevator and no help with luggage. Breakfast barely passable. Good value and enjoyable if issues are not important.

Really nice little hotel near the center of everything in Venice. One of the best deals that I found, considering the high prices for hotels normally in Venice. The hotel even had some character, which I found to be a nice touch. It might be hard to find from the map provided so use google map or something to map out the area. The hotel was really nice, but the shower, like most other showers in Europe, is extremely small. Hotel gave us one of those home away form home feels. Their breakfast is kind of lacking, but adequate. A lot of stairs, I was up at the 4th floor, so request for one of the lower floors if possible. For the price I paid, and for the location and the character of the hotel, it was definitely one of the best deals. Oh yeah, make sure you check in before 4pm, because there is no one there afterwards. We were able to leave our luggage at the hotel after we checked-out because our train out of Venice was not till much later, which is good.

Location good; right in the heart of Venice. We were greeted by a very nice receptionist. She had set out cookies, chocolates and tea. Up 3 flights of tiny stairs to room #5. Bed for third person about 12 inches off the ground but OK otherwise. The big problem for us was that the office closed at 4pm (Easter Sunday) and our air conditioner did not work. That meant we had to open our window to get air. An annoying mosquito and noisy people outside kept us awake; then the next day we had bites, we think from bedbugs (they were not mosquito bites and they didn't itch). We had to leave for our return trip before breakfast started Monday morning at 8am so don't know how that would have been.

the hotel was in a perfect location and exactly located where we were told on the map.we were 5/10 minutes max. from all the popular toursist attractions and restaurants/transport etc.we did not expect that we had to go to another hotel to collect our keys but the directions given were excellent and easy to follow and took no time to find it, get our keys and settle into our room within 20 mins of arriving in Rialto!over all the hotel was lovely, and the rooms were very clean and comfortable but not much space.in saying that i would definitely return to that hotel should i visit venice again.

Excellent location -- 2 minutes from water-bus and 5 minutes from St Mark's Square. Quaint. Staff friendly and helpful -- Francesca, Silvia, and Tatyana are great! Location is really great! San Marco and Rialto can be reach within a short walking distance (5-10mins). Near to one of the main vaporatto station so taking the boat is really easy. But be prepared to carry your luggage and climb up the steps if you stay in the upper rooms. Ladies at reception counter very warm, helpful and friendly which makes the stay really enjoyable. Breakfast provided have quite a good variety of choice. Lots of shopping places and restaurant around the area.

This is my third visit to Lanterna Di Marco Pollo in the last four years. When I returned this summer for my most recent visit,it was just like visiting old friends. The owner Francesca and her staff are always friendly and helpfull which is the reason I continue to return to this hotel each time I am in the area. On this most recent visit I looked forward to seeing Francesca and the staff at the great little cafe just next door as much as seeing Venice itself. It is also in very close proximity to everthing in Venice. I would recomend to anyone who wants an authentic Venitian expierience to stay with Francesca at the Laterna Di Marco Polo. Have a glass of wine before dinner or at lunch with a slice of pizza or a pannini at the cafe next door for just a few euro. These are great people. When I think of Venice, I think of Lanterna di Marco Polo. Congradulations Francesca....My wife and I will be thinking of you and your new baby this Christmas. What a gift! Karen loved the cookies. I really enjoyed this inn. The breakfast area was cozy and offered enough choice to get started. The location made it an easy walk from Rialto and Piazza San Marco. From the Rialto ferry it was only 2-3 minute walk. The walk to San Marco was even easier (as you're not carrying luggage). The only word of warning is the lack of an elevator. It's a 14th century building with extra space for an elevator. There is room to store luggage downstairs if your train/flight leaves later in the day. Rooms were clean and nicely appointed. There was enough space to feel comfortable with the twin setup and the bathroom was decently sized as well. I'd definitely stay here again.

Saludos.

I recommend this hotel for its central place in the city. Ideal location at just 3 mn from Rialto bridge or St Marco Place. Good reception from the staff. Room clean. The ratio quality/price is good regarding the location but on our experience this hotel is intermediate between a 2* and 3* category. We had a very pleasant stay in this charming city.

The place was comfortable, well located, quiet, clean. We were very upset because they charged 3 nights in our credit card at 13:00 h, before our arrival, even though we had warned them by e-mail (and in the reservation in Venere) that we were arriving at 22:00 h. The contract with Venere explicitly stated that the hotel was not allowed to do this. We intended to pay the entire stay in cash but the person in charge adopted a highly unfriendly attitude

Francesca, the owner, was a magnificent host. She gave us excellent restaurant advice. She phoned and then e-mailed our next hotel and talked them into allowing us to cancel the final night of our reservation because of a change in plans. At first they were reluctant to allow us to cancel, but she talked them into it! Rooms at Lanterna di Marco Polo were on small side but clean and nicely decorated.

This hotel is very clean & the staff is quite pleasant. At this time, travel to Italy remains quite expensive which is why I gave a low rating for price/quality. Also: construction was going on next door & when we opened our shutters, only scaffolding covered with a white construction drape was all that we could see. We did not care for the plug-in air fresheners.

Francesca and staff were very knowledgeable and helpful -- we exchanged several emails before arrival. Great location. Room quaint, and good-sized. Extremely clean property. Breakfast could use additional items, but was adequate. No elevator/lift (not mentioned anywhere), could be a problem for some quests -- we were on 5th floor and had heavy bags! We arrived after 1800 and needed to pick up key at another nearby hotel -- slight inconvenience, but no problem. Good value for area -- would stay again, and recommend to friends.

Nice hotel in very good location for Rialto and San Marco. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Room was good size, clean and comfortable although it was situated on the top floor so the walk up the stairs with all our luggage was a bit unexpected. The hotel was quite expensive compared higher rated hotels in other Italian cities but overall good value for money in Venice where everything is comparatively expensive. I would stay here again and recommend to friends.

The staff was wonderful and e-mailed me comprehensive directions and other instructions when the room was confirmed. The room was small but well laid out, quiet, and clean. If you can't do steps, then this may not be for you because there is no elevator. But if you want a nice room for a reasonable price with an enthusiastic staff, then stay here.
USA, Sep 2007
The room was so small. I was not expecting to be in a room that use to be the attic. Our room was actually in a finished out attic, was very small, uncomfortable bed and the TV did not work. Not worth the money for the type of environment.
United Kingdom, Sep 2007
It is right in the centre and easy to get to from the Rialto water bus station. We stayed for 2 nights. You can always find your way back to the hotel by following either 'per Rialto' or 'per San Marco' signs. Hotel kindly emailed me a very detailed and helpful instruction on how to get to the hotel. Staff were very helpful but not intrusive. Space is in short supply but I don't think you can expect more considering the location. Cons: at breakfast tea/coffee etc. were dispensed by a machine, which was not entirely satisfactory. As a tea drinker I had to have several goes before clean hot water came out unspoiled by coffee residue. The shower temperature control was somewhat erratic.

The hotel is in a superb location, really central for everything and fairly quiet. Staff were very accommodating and helpful. The room we had was tiny, only just enough room to walk around the bed. There is also no lift. Breakfast was also very busy as there were only 6-8 seats and more than 8 people were staying at the hotel. We took our breakfast back to our room. Price wise, not bad in comparison to Venice prices as everywhere is expensive!

This is a lovely, quiet inn in the middle of a very busy area in San Marco. Our experience was first-rate from beginning to end. We received an email with clear, precise directions to find the hotel. We found Tatyana and Francesca exceptionally warm and kind, and a goldmine of information about restaurants and suggestions for things to do, all of which were excellent. Our room was spotless, there was great air conditioning, and the room cleaning was faultless. This is a small inn, and there is no elevator, and there are about two rooms per floor. Friends staying at a hotel substantially more expensive had a much smaller, more plain triple room. When we told Tatyana we needed to leave before breakfast, she arranged a tray for us in our room. Staying at this inn was a superb, gracious experience.

I returned to Venice for one night after traveling around Greece and Croatia. The Lanterna di Marco Polo was in a prime location that was perfect for visiting the Rialto Bridge, St. Mark's Square and other main Venice attractions, and for getting to and from the train station and airport via vaporetto. The rooms are small and the front desk and breakfast room are in one area, but the location more than made up for the shortcomings. The staff was very helpful and gave me the most useful map I have ever received of Venice - a big plus in a city where it can be very confusing to find places.

The location was excellent. It was difficult to find, because the address appears to be for the back of the property. The reception is only open until 6/7pm. I had received an urgent e-mail 2 days before the stay (which I only picked up on my return home) demanding an exact time of arrival. I had previously said I was travelling around Italy before going to Venice and did not know the exact time but it would be before 6pm. Breakfast was unusual - anything from meringue and chocolate tart to processed white rolls and coco-pops! Only stay here if you are fit. No lift and steep stairs. Other people in the group were in Room 9 which was up several flights of steep stairs. Although breakfast was 9-11 we were asked to go at 9.30. Not sure if this was the limited space or at the receptionist's preference. Generally felt it was ok, but we were paying for the location

This is a small, charming hotel set in the most perfect location! 10 minutes from San Marco Piazza and 10 minutes from Riallto Bridge. You are in the heart of everything. The room was clean and comfortable and decorated in true Venetian style. There is no lift so as to keep in with the original atmosphere of this old townhouse. The stairs are steep and there are 4 floors. Ask for a low level floor if you are worried about this. The hotel is very basic and just serves a continental breakfast (various breads/ croissants and jams). There are however lots of restaurants in the area and the hotel is able to recommend some good ones to you. There is a Gondola drop off point a few metres from the hotel. I think value for money is excellent at this hotel and we would definitely go back and stay there!

We very much enjoyed our stay at Hotel Lanterna di Marco Polo and will certainly go back. It is a small, family run hotel, idealy located to take advantage of all sectors in Venice and not just San Marco. It is close enough to be within easy walking distance to the major attractions without having the pedestrian conjestion that one finds by being next door. There is no elevator but with our room located on the first floor that was not an issue. Our room was compact but well appointed with all the amenities one needed at hand. The breakfast was ample and served in a small area adjacnet to the reception. Without exception, the multi lingual staff at the reception were most helpful and accommodating in addressing any request we had and offered good advice.

We had a very hard time looking for this hotel. Its like a secret Hotel. The Hotel name was about 12 inches by 12 inches posted by the window. Very small hotel w/ 8 rooms only. our room was very ssmall. No Lift, so i have to carry my luggage to 4th floor. other female customers were crying carrying their luggage. No bellboy help. Breakfast is not good. And the hotel closes down at 8pm. so the staff gives you a key so you can go in after 8pm. The only good thing about this hotel is the proximity to San Marko Square, thats it. There can be few hotels so centrally located with such friendly staff and such reasonable prices. Rooms are clean and I have stayed here several times before. However previously I have stayed in October December. At Easter the room felt rather airless and the bed was extremely uncomfortable...but it may just be that room. The coffee is always awful, better to go to one of the small bars by the Rialto. Would I stay here again? Probably, if only to see if we were unlucky this time. The people and the value are certainly much better than (for example) the San Cassiano Ca'Favretto, where I have also stayed several times, and which charges E250 per night. My advice? Give it a go.

This excellent location let us walk most of the time to the places of our interests. The staff there was very friendly as well. The room is big enough for our needs. Most of the hotels in Venice do not have elevator, so for older couples or travellers with big luggages, it's much better to pick a hotel with elevators. The breakfast was also excellent. The best thing about the hotel was the location.

I would say this trip to Venice and our stay with my fiancee at this hotel has been the most unforgetable one in our entire life. A nice detail from the people in charge of Lanterna di Marco Polo was that they wrote us e-mails to know the exact date/time of our arrival, so they gave us the proper information on how to reach their facilities. The room was awesome, quiet, breakfast abundant and delicious, the service received speachless... ... everything deserves an excellent rate. It is a 5 stars hotel with a 3 stars ranking! I will highly recommend this hotel to any visitor to Venice! It is a near Piazza San Marco and easily reachable from "Rialto Vaporetto-station". The pictures published here do not show the real warm environment and nice touches of the rooms, it looks and is way better than you can apreciate here... do not believe me? go there and spend some days in this beautiful hotel in Venezia!

Fantastic!!!

A super small hotel in a perfect location. Arrival after 6:00 pm can be tricky as the front door is locked and you need to ring the manager to come and open it.

The hotel is well positioned, close to the centre and to the ferry. Rooms are nice, charming and clean - high standard. Breakfast however is below expectations, very limited choice and served in the lobby. Overall a nice place to stay, prices are high but in line with Venice standards. Please note: There is no lift and there are 5 floors.

Fantastic small hotel in the heart of Venice. Understandably small but full of character to get you in the spirit of the place. Very clean room. Staff very friendly and competant. Stairs would be a problem for anyone with mobility difficulties. Highly recommended

Location was great, close to water taxi, vaporetto. If you visit the hotel's website, don't be fooled (like we were) that it's on the water. There are NO rooms with a water view in the entire hotel. The lack of a lift in the hotel is more of an inconvenience that I thought it would be. We were in room 7 (on the 5th floor) and the staircase is VERY narrow and winding.

It's expensive like any other hotel room in Venice, but it's comfortable and superbly well located. The staff is efficient and polite. Very good option.

L'albergo è in pieno centro, silenzioso e pulito.

A hidden gem? Really close to Rialto Bridge so a very central location, directions given were excellent. Lovely hotel, nice rooms, breakfast good, staff extremely helpful. Not noisy considering where it is. Will definitely stay there and recommend to anyone.
