we stayed here for 2 nights on our honeymoon - it was large for a european/venetian hotel room and the bed was comfortable. we had to switch rooms after one night because the heat was broken in our room for the first night and it was about 40 degrees F outside. the hotel staff were helpful in switching our rooms (but it would have been nice for them to offer us something in return for staying in the frozen room). GREAT location - close to St. Mark's but not so close that it's noisy. Overall, we recommend a stay here.

Everything was great! The rooms were clean, quiet, comfortable and spacious, the staff helpful and friendly. It was in a nice quiet area. Breakfast was good. The information provided by the hotel about how to get there was very easy to follow. Great location near the Piazza San Marco, very close to everything. My brother's family also travelled with us, they had a quad room and were very happy with it. Some tables and chairs outside would be nice to sit and have a glass of wine at the end of the day. I had previously stayed in accommodation booked through a travel agent and it was nowhere near as good as this. I would definately recommend it to anyone.

We used this hotel as base for several days walking around Venice. Located in the backstreets a little way from Piazza San Marco, it was easy enough to find with the directions provided. It's a bit of a walk if you have a lot of luggage, but we had no problems getting there from the nearest waterbus stop. Nice comfortable rooms, and friendly staff made for an enjoyable stay. Not cheap for the standard, but you are paying for the location as well.

A nice place on a hidden square very close to Piazza di San Marco – not perfect but (for Venice) offering an acceptable quality/price level - small hotel with friendly staff in central location - venecian 3* (not more, not less)

In general Venice is a very expensive city, so La Locandiera hotel´s prices seems high for the type of room. On the other hand there are not help to move your luggage from the Vaporeto station to the hotel (about 200 m away), so you need to be your own freighter and it is very tiresome. However, this little hotel, hidden in the labyrint of narrow streets is quite charming and romantic. An old house turned into hotel brings a very calid atmosphere and you are only two blocks away from the San Marcos square and from the Grand canal, so it retrieves the price

The location was excellent; easy walking distance to Piazza St. Marco and lots of good restaurants near by. We were very pleased with Antica Sacrestia and ate there twice. We found the hotel easy to find. The staff were very friendly & helpful. I asked for a very quiet room as my husband is a light sleeper. We got a room facing the square and it was very quiet. Highly recommended.

Comfortable room and nice bathroom too. But no change of towels, which one would expect at the price. Would have been nice if there were a couple of tables outside to enjoy a cup of coffee al fresco style

We have never been so well taken care of. My daughter and I were traveling after a very stressful year. The management was delightful and we felt like part of the family. It was wonderful not to have to worry about anything. The room was spacious and lovely. We kept our windows open to take in the wonderful breezes. For breakfast we had yogurt, 3 types of breads, butter, cheese and jam, cereal and hot or cold milk, coffee, orange juice, grapfruit juice, bottled water and peaches. We never went hungry. I would go back today but alas I have to live in the real world for awhile.

Stayed here for 3 nights with my two grown-up daughters. Arrived at 22.00 hours and found it easily ; within 20 minutes of leaving Vaporetta we had checked in and were in local bar having a glass of wine! We had a triple room (24, overlooking small square) which was perfect- spacious and clean with comfortable beds,a lovely warm bathroom with plenty of soft white towels! Nice breakfast and perfect (peaceful)location, 5 minutes from Vaporetta station on Grand Canal, 5 minutes from St Marks Square with plenty of places to eat near by (though quite pricey). We took a boat to the Cannaregio area where prices were much more reasonable. Would definitely stay here again and recommend it to friends.

We stayed in Venice for 6 nights and enjoyed both the hotel and the city. The hotel is very easy to find (we took about 10 minutes from the vaperetto to check in at the hotel and this was in fog!). Once in the hotel we found that it is very well located near to San Marco - about 3 minutes walk, the staff are helpful and friendly and the breakfast is good. All in all a very enjoyable stay in a wonderful city.

Firstly must mention the superb staff - they emailed me to confirm the booking and sent a detailed map which I unfortunately printed out in stamp size, thankfully the young girl at reception gave me excellent directions over the phone, her English was impressive. Staff were always superb and friendly, room was a bit warm at night and couldn't leave window open due to mosquitoes which were buzzing in my ear the first night, aircon only seemed to heat, no cooling option, breakfast was basic but fine, overall a great stay due to very welcoming and helpful staff (girl at reception recommended 2 great non-touristy restaurants nearby) the location is amazing, 2 mins to St. Mark's but off the tourist trail and in a quiet little square, 3 mins to San Zaccaria vaporetto stop where the Alilaguna boat to the airport also stops. Booked a double room which was big by Venetian standards, safe and minibar, large-ish bathroom, TINY TV but not important, comfortable large bed, room always thoroughly cleaned. Lift available which is handy for luggage. Summary: Great location and staff, decent price, some minor annoyances but if you want to stay near St. Mark's without paying a fortune this place would be hard to beat!

We very much enjoyed our stay here, the staff were wonderful - very welcoming and provided us with maps. It is very centrally located to walk around and on lots of vaparetto routes too. Our room was large and clean overlooking a canal. We would definately recommend this as very good value for money and a nice place to stay.

Large room [no.14] with good bathroom and great water pressure, important for thick hair-washing. Fridge and safe in room. Very convenient location close to St Marks but far enough away to escape the crowds. Supermarket, great gelati and restaurants in easy walking distance. Expensive at 180 euros/night but this is Venice.

Our one night stay was perfect. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and spacious. The hotel was situated 5 minutes from St. Mark's Square yet it was in a very quiet location. We never heard any outside noise or noise from other hotel guests. The hotel is close to wonderful restaurants and shopping. I would return to La Locandiera should another trip to Venice occur.

The directions to the hotel from Venere were unhelpful and the ones directly from the hotel were actually wrong. Having been to Venice before, we know it is easy to get confused but we lost for an hour. It was almost midnight and we were exhausted/exasperated. Once found, the clerk at the desk was clueless, couldn't find the reservation. When we finally got into our room it was noisy from a neighboring rooms tv and inconsiderate loud talking till very late. The room itself was large but only very basic with no charm. We actually checked out the next day and went to another property.

I really liked the location of the hotel in that it was close to St. Marks but not right by it. That gave us an opportunity to eat at local places not overrun by other tourists. We like to experience things like the locals whenever we can. The only thing that was odd is that there is no sign that sticks out into sidewalk so that you can see the entrance from the intersection. It is easy to get to from the Vapporetto stop, just make sure to get off on the correct one.

The hotel staff provided directions and taxi information by e-mail prior to our arrival - they were extremely helpful. The hotel is just a short 5-10 min walk from the vaporetta. My only complaint is the housekeeper was loud in the stairwells, which echoed through the whole building, and a neighboring apartment was fairly loud for awhile one day. However, it did not interfere with our sleep, as the noise was gone by nightfall. There was a very small elevator, so stairs aren't a problem. Breakfast was sufficient, but they ask €1-2 for cappucino or espresso in the morning. They provide milk, juice, tea, croissants, prepackaged toast and jam, usually a canned fruit and sometimes another pastry, such as a tart, for the guests to share. There is a computer to use the internet for €2/20 min. The staff was helpful. Piazza San Marco was a 5-10 minute walk - just a few short blocks. A PERFECT place to stay. The hotel will also set up a free speedboat ride to Murano to tour a glass factory - take note: While the trip to the island is free, it's not an "official" tour. It's a ploy to get you into the glass showroom to buy expensive glass. They tour guide we had was very friendly, but after 10 minutes of watching an artist work, he shuffled us into the showroom where he claimed he could give us a great deal on anything we wanted. He was somewhat persistant, but we didn't purchase anything. He was visibly disappointed. We were also not provided a taxi back - we had to get one on our own. Still not a bad deal, but if you have a hard time with situations like this, take your own taxi out and back. All of the factories are open for tours during business hours. It's a fantastic place to visit. The hotel will also help with a Gondola ride, but no discounts. The only way to enjoy the gondola without paying €75-100(singing is another €100 or so), is to head up towards Rialto and find the gondoleers in training - they'll take you straight across the canal for about €0.50.

Excellent location at 3 minutes walk of San Marco square. Although in the center of touristic Venice, very quiet surroundings. As not al rooms seem the same, we had (even for Venician standards) a very spacious one. Being for the sixt time in Venice and knowing the city by now well, the location/price combination and quality of the rooms is the main selling point of this hotel. Two tips: 1) Book this hotel through venere.com and not directly at the hotel, it saved us in our case about 35 euro/night. 2) For people who love Italian coffee skip the brown water at breakfast and get your espresso lungo at one of the several bars nearby (1/2 minute walk).

La Locandiera was our idea of the best of a lovely little boutique hotel - smart inclusions like cable tv and an excellent breakfast - knowledgeable, english-speaking staff and a great, nearby-to-key-places location without extra frills to raise the very fair price - clean, pretty and worked well for our 2 eleven-year olds who had their own room and bath. would definitely recommend for anyone staying in venice.

The poor reception at our arrival all be it late (around 10.30, we got a bit lost) was a bit dissapointing. We got lost despite the good map mainly because the hotel had no lights or signage on at all indicating its location. This is particularly neccesary as Venice streets are very tricky. The morning receptionist at check out, kept us waiting for 20 minutes whilst helping clients at her desk calling various places checking on rather obviously trivial matters like hours of operation etc. She was being put on hold sometimes for 4/5 minutes whilst we stood there. Rather than apologise for the loong wait she chose to make us feel like we were disturbing her. It might be helpful for the hotel to have more than one employee helping at checkout times. These are minor issues and not complaints against any individual and are only being stated to help the hotel improve its otherwise excellent location and premises..

We had a nice large room on the 3rd floor - a triple that really felt like a triple, rather than a double with an extra bed stuffed in. The air conditioning was a little substandard, which was too bad because it was extremely hot and humid when we visited. The staff were very helpful in many ways and the beds and room were quite comfortable except for the heat. The location was good - close to the major sights like San Marco but on a quiet campo. Be aware that the directions on the venere site are completely wrong for how to reach the hotel. Be sure to take along a printout of the map sent by the hotel when you book. We had trouble finding it and in fact at one point we were standing right in front of it and didn't realize it because there is no sign, just the words above the doorbell of the main door. The breakfast was the worst we had on the trip and they charged 2 euros for an espresso or capuccino, which, given the cost of the rooms, seemed petty. They also charged a small fortune for internet access (5 euros an hour). Venice is really a mob scene and if we were to return we would probably stay in the Dorsoduro or on the Lido to get further away from the crowds.

I was not very impressed with La Locandiera. After reading the reviews and getting a personal confirmation email from the hotel, I was expecting our stay at this hotel to be the best among the four hotels we stayed at in Italy. The real picture was different. I'm not saying it's not a decent hotel, clean and friendly staff, but the reviews and the hotel website make you think that you're staying at a palace, but it's much more humble and it's over-rated. The room was much smaller and less elaborate than the impression the pictures gave; the breakfast was the poorest we had in Italian hotels; the room quite small with hardly any space for luggage and clothes for a group of three. In all fairness though, the bathroom was excellent, the staff friendly and helpful and professional, they spoke pretty good English. However, I will not stay there again, not just because of what I described above, but because after visitng Venice for the first time, I'm somewhat convinced that it's more sensible to stay a little further away from the touristic and historical center (maybe near the Santa Lucia train station) and use the vaporetto (the boat transportation) to get to the historical center. Also, I think next time I visit Venice, as freezing as it gets I might go there in the winter because the hords of summer tourists really take away a lot from the city's charm!

We found the hotel to be close to the write-ups on it. Pros: close to San Marco, close to the water taxi, easy to find, friendly staff - they speak excellent english, very helpful, decent breakfast, clean rooms. Cons: Staying around San Marco was a mistake for us since it was too touristy and crowded. We ended up continuing to leave the are everyday for more quiet surroundings (San Toma, Murano (certain areas), etc. We also found the area is full of very pricey restaurants, etc. - you really need to go explore away from the area to find better prices (and better quality, as we discovered). Its an interesting area to explore but not live in.

This hotel is a little gem! Near enough to the noise and attractions, but turn the corner into the little square and it's quiet and peaceful. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are very clean and the bed is comfortable compared to some we have slept on! The breakfast is more than you would usually find in a Venice hotel at that price band. (on a previous visit to another hotel in Venice, the breakfast was very meagre) On this visit, we 'got away' from the usual tourist spots and walked/water bus to find 'hidden' Venice. The hotel has books laid out for you to look at. All in all a very enjoyable five days.

The room was lovely. Very spacious and attractive as well as exceptionally clean. The only problem was that although it was on the third floor, if the windows were open we could hear the loud conversations of the passers-by on the streets below. The staff was very helpful and informative. They gave us valuable information about how to use the public transportation (by boat) that took us to the airport at a reasonable cost. For Venice prices, it's excellent. Fabulous value/price ratio. Short walk from Piazza San Marco and to "bus" stop. Elevator was important. Perhaps the room furniture is a bit older than what it seems in the pictures. Highly recommend it.

My sister, two of our teen-aged children, and I spent three nights at La Locandiera. It was perfect. The location was wonderful and the hotel itself could not have been more appropriate for us. It was spotlessly clean and the staff was very helpful and gracious. We all said we'd stay there again in a second.

Absolutely perfect location. Very central and near St. Marks Square. Easy enough to find from directions given and water taxi stop. Excellent value for money. Good value breakfast. Spotless modern and roomy bathroom!

My husband and 2 daughters (18 & 21) stayed here for 2 nights in the middle of March 2008. The hotel is located very close to the canal and St Mark's Square. It is very clean-as a matter of fact my 18 year old daughter even commented on how clean it was. The staff were very friendly and most of them spoke English. Our room was on the first floor and it was very quiet. We met an older Venetian man on the waterbus who filled us with info about all of the buildings as we passed them and escorted us right to the hotel's door! We paid 200 euro per night and would highly recommend it.

THE HOTEL WAS VERY CLEAN AND QUIET. THE ONLY COMPLAINT WE HAD WAS THAT WE HAD A QUAD AND THE SECOND QUEEN BED WAS A FOLD OUT COUCH! VERY, VERY UNCOMFORTABLE AND FOR THE MONEY WE PAID THIS WAS NOT OK. OVER 400.OO DOLLARS A NIGHT FOR A LOUSY BED....

A perfect stay in this very good hotel, next to San Marco and also in the quiet side of Venice. A must go.

La Locandiera is in a perfect location, right next to St Marks Sq, although away from the hustle and bustle in a quiet square. There are lots of restaurants and bars close by. We didn't have any problem finding the hotel, following directions provided by the hotel. We visited with our 2 year old boy, and found the hotel ideal (although navigating through Venice with a buggy was challenging!). Breakfast was better than expected with freshly baked croissants/bread every morning, boiled eggs, cereals, cheese, jams, tinned fruit, coffee, tea and juice. We would definitely return to this hotel if we stayed in Venice again.

Stayed for 2 days. OUr room was fine but our friends had to relocate 3 times in 2 days. The first room had a foul odor due to lowest water level in Venice in the past 14 yrs. The second room, the electric card reader went out and they could not get electricity to the room. Breakfast was nice, Laura at front desk was most helpful. Great location about 5 minutes from St Marks Piazza. Would recommend.

the rating about the quiteness concerns the others rooms not the noise from outside: the walls are too thin, you get bodered from the other guest's voice. The rest is excellent !

The hotel is an excellent deal for venice. The only thing to "complain" about is the quietness of the rooms, because the doors of the single rooms aren' isolated very well. But as the hotel is very small, the noise is limited, esp. if you're the one who is coming back late. ;-) The breakfast is better than in most italian hotels. That's why you have unfortunately no reason to take your breakfast in an Italian bar like most Italian. The location of the hotel is great, only five minutes away from piazza San Marco, but a not in the main tourist area. We can recommend the hotel and next time we are going to Venice we certainly choose this hotel again.

I can recommend this hotel and surely would come back if again in Venice. Very clean, nice bathroom, kind service, 24 hours reception service, excellent location. Do not go to Antica Secrestia Restaurant as it is too expensive and very touristic oriented (if understood what I mean), but go to the Aciugheta, which is serving excellent food accompanied with real kindness. Both are cca. 50 meters from the Hotel.

As a family of six,(four adult children),we had an excellent weekend stay in this pleasant little hotel. The bedrooms were comfortable and spacious, the bathrooms modern, and the breakfast fine, with good coffee. The Staff were helpful and charming and spoke excellent English. The location is brilliant: only three minutes from St Mark's, and facing a pretty, quiet, tiny square. We felt it was very good quality for Venice and we will certainly return.

We stayed here with our infant and my parents. We were all very happy with the size of the rooms and the helpfulness of the staff. Breakfast wasn't thrilling but that was to be expected. The hotel is very close to St. Mark's square and we would definitely stay here again.

Helpful staff and beautiful spacious room (double for single use). I may have been lucky to get this as the hotel was very much out of season and more or less empty. Breakfast was fine but of the processed cheese and packet bread variety. And why is it Italian hotels don't seem to serve authentic Cappuccino for breakfast?

An excellent Hotel, tiny, simple but perfect. Our Venere booking was rapidly acknowledged by E mail from the hotel itself, and a subsequent query was immediately answered. Hotel is easy to find if directions followed correctly, it is only 5 minutes from San Zaccaria ferry jetty, and inconspicuously located in a tiny square which is visible on the map. I was new to Venice and delighted that we had chosen so well - a few metres here makes quite a difference to how the hotel feels - some are over shops for example. This one is not. Check-in was welcoming and effective, giving us plenty of useful information. Our room (2nd floor) was very clean and well decorated, and had a good bathroom with high quality fittings. It was not huge, I wouldn't expect this at the price but it was very pleasant and much larger than many I have visited. As the hotel is right amongst some narrow alleys and a small canal, there can never be much of a view from any window, but this is because it is in Venice! Breakfast in the little breakfast room was good, also there were guide books handy in several languages for use in the hotel. The staff both day and night were most pleasant and helpful, including giving an excellent restaurant recommendation, Al Vecio Canton, located in a street about 75 metres away which also had a bakers and a good food shop for our travelling picnic. We would never have found this on our own. The hotel floors are tiled throughout and there are only 10 rooms on 3 floors so you can expect to hear other guests a lttle, but this is trivial. Finally, we were directed to the correct Vaporetto for our early departure by train - and after an hours delay at Breschia en route to Milan, the later train information given to us by Martina in the hotel allowed us to plan ahead of arrival Milan and make our destination that day. We recommend this hotel.

Very well located in a quiet inner street 5 mins from san Marco sq., the rooms are nicely decorated but no view (I stayed in No 23) I had a good price deal for Venice through Venere (80 Euro a night for a single use) The entrance hall and reception were really squeezed in a corner as wea the elevator. Rooms were nevertheless very comfortable (By Venice standards)

After arriving at St. Marks vapporato stop from the airport we walked to the hotel. Very easy to find, by the directions given. Wonderful quite square. We felt very welcomed. Breakfast was good and quite adequate. Rooms are just as nice as the web photo's. This is a very quite location and so close to St. Marks Square. We would definitely stay here again.

We stayed 3 nights La Locandiera and we loved every minute of it. Marina, the manager, was so helpful and pleasant that we wished we could have stayed longer. The hotel is located on a quiet side street so sleeping is great, but it is convenient to the Grand Canal, St Marks Square, and the Rialto. The breakfasts were just right, and there are tons of cafes and shops nearby. The only nit we can pick is that if you have long hair, you might want to bring your own hairdryer. There is one provided in the very spacious bathroom, but it was not terribly strong. But that is a very minor thing compared to the overall excellence of this hotel. We will definitely stay there again.

Excellent hotel and helpful staff. 3 adults shared the room which was well decorated and spacious. The frame on one of the beds sweaked when you moved but that was the only issue. If you are looking for a hotel centrally located you would be hard pushed to find one that better this for this price.

Lovely property, terrific staff! Our luggage was lost in transit and Marina & Laura worked with the airport to finally get it delivered after 2 days. They were wonderful to us. They were helpful in restaurant suggestions and securing activities for us. The room was spotless and there is a lift. I will recommend this property to anyone coming to Venice, and feel it is a great value for the money!

The hotel was spacious and clean, and conveniently located. However the staff was generally unfriendly, breakfast was uninspired, and the rooms were extremely noisy. We had both noise from the upstairs neighbor moving furniture until midnight, and from the street outside, as well as from the hallway. The "free" tour of Murano was a setup to get you to tour a specific factory, then buy in their overpriced shop afterwards.

Accomm was better than expected- got a double room for our family which was unexpected but greatly appreciated. Also didn't know that breakfast was included - and that was also fantastic. Location was exceptional. Secretary who worked in reception was friendly and helpful View from room onto canal below was lovely. No street noise. This hotel was costly for a family of 4 but we knew we would have to pay more in Venice - but given the double room, location and breakfast we highly recommend it!

We had no luck with restaurants until we finally asked the receptionist at the hotel on our last day for a recommendation. Should have asked before as she (sorry I don't know her name but the staff were all pleasant & helpful)recommended Antica Sacrestia, Calle della Sacrestia 4442, which was about 1 min away (make a reservation if poss. The hotel will do it for you)although they seated us without even though they were very busy. Can be expensive but offer cheaper alternatives including a tourist menu (fixed price). We ordered from the regular menu & it was excellent & our waiter couldn't have been nicer. We also bought meats & cheese & wine & fruit from local deli's, shops & markets for a picnic. Everyone was helpful despite the language barrier & the food was delicious. Be brave.
