Great location just a short walk (and a couple of bridges) from the San Marco vaporetti stop. Gondolas available almost on the doorstep! Very friendly, competent staff. Breakfast was excellent, but the breakfast area is a bit cramped. Room overlooked the canal, but noise was not a problem..

Our 2 night stay pre Mediterranean ocean cruise in May 2014 was wonderful. This Hotel is ideally located just off San Marco Square & within easy walking distance to all places we wished to see. Our canal view room was so nice, located just above a Gondola station, so we could watch & listen to the singers etc. It was only noisy during waking hours, so no problems at night. The staff were friendly & helpful at all times & the included breakfast very good. Also, we were dropped off from the airport by a water taxi, so no bridges to carry luggage over. When we departed to reach the cruise terminal, there was just one small bridge (outside hotel) to carry luggage over to arrive at water taxi stop. Very convenient! We loved our stay at Hotel Violino D Oro & would certainly stay there again.

The location is very good and the price reflects the convenience that the location offers to the San Marco area. The hotel and rooms were quaint, but compares with normal European standards for older, small, independent hotels. Although the hotel is adjacent to a small canal, it is full of gondoliers, so private water taxis will not drop you off at the hotel dock. The water taxi loading/unloading area is about two blocks away down a narrow 4' wide alley that goes out to the lagoon near the entrance to the Grand Canal. You will be on your own to navigate the alley and streets with your luggage. If traveling light, it is not a big deal. In our case, this was the first night of a three week trip that included a cruise departing the next day, so we had to cope with substantial luggage. But, the scenario is likely the same for many other hotels in Venice and probably worse at some of them. Breakfast was very good and the staff gave us a good dinner recommendation for a small restaurant, Vino, that was close, reasonably priced, and delicious.

The shower in the bathroom is terrible. We had a very large bathroom and the shower is stuck by the toilet with no enclosure for it, except a thin shower curtain. The floor & towels got very wet. We didn't find the staff very friendly or of much help.

When we got there, they put us in this place called the annex, which was not good. The bathroom was so small I had to lean over at the waste (due to the sloping ceiling)to get into the shower. The next day they moved us to the main hotel, which was better. But I am still amazed they put us in that outer building, which was never mentioned in the description when I booked the room. I would be very careful about booking this hotel. Plus, no elevator in the annex, so carry the luggage up 5 flights of stairs.

The rooms were VERY much in need of refurbishing. THe walls were dented and scratched, there was a hole in the bathroom door and a BIG dent in the front door. THe suitcase rack and other furniture were badly damaged. There was no cover on the shower drain. It was awful! Upon arrival (after being told by the front desk he could not help us find the hotel after getting off the wrong taxi stop), I showed the desk clerk the damaged room and he said he would tell the manager..which he did not. When I showed staff the next day, they offered another room which was just about as bad. This hotel is NOT as it was presented and I would never stay there again!

We had a wonderful stay at the Hotel Violino D' Oro! We enjoyed the boutique-type feel of this hotel. Traveling with our 13 yr old daughter, this was our first stop in Italy and we didn't want to leave. Arriving with lots of luggage was a bit of a struggle, but we had a good size, comfortable room, free wifi with good signal, lovely buffet breakfast everyday, extremely professional and helpful staff, and the location was superb. We felt like we were staying in the heart of Venice. We highly recommend this hotel and we hope to return soon and will book this hotel again!

The location was great only a 5min or less walk to St. Marks Square/20min walk to Riolto bridge. Staff was friendly and accomodating when we needed to leave bags (not locked but close to front desk) prior to check in so we could go explore the city. Location was right on a larger street/walk way with many shops and right next to a gondola station. This might make it noisy if you face the canal but we had a family room on the top floor and and no issues with noise at all. I liked the family room but be aware it's 4 single beds (not unusual for Europe) but plenty of room for bags and bathroom was updated and clean. We liked the value with the breakfast being included (eggs/ bread/ pastries/ sausages/ juice/ coffee, etc.)Would definely consider staying here again if we make it back to Venice.

We thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay at Violino d'Oro hotel. The staff was friendly and extremely helpful; the room was small, but perfectly adequate and very clean. Our two windows opened onto the campo in front of the hotel providing a fantastic view of the surrounding area and gondola landing, With the windows open, we were also able to enjoy the street sounds that added to the ambiance. Violino d'Oro enjoys a wonderful location close to San Marco, transportation, shopping and restaurants. It is an easy walk from the boat stop to the hotel with only two bridges to negotiate with luggage(we're a retired couple in our late 60s.) Our breakfast was terrific - lots of variety, of high quality and fresh. A luggage storage room was available to hold our bags until we were ready to depart the city - a wonderful convenience. We would be more than pleased to return to the Violino d'Oro and hope to do so sometime in the future.

Staff was very couteous and helpful. All spoke English which was very helpful. The hotel is conveniently located, just a 4 min walk to the Vaparettos at St Marco square. We could not have been more pleased with our choice. I would recommend this hotel to others. Note: It is located next to a busy Gondola station so there is some noise from there. If you get a canal room you will hear the sounds of Venice and its Gondoleirs. To us, that was part of the charm of Venice.

Our first visit to italy and we found the hotel easily and loved it. Staff was really great and we reserved the double room with view and really felt it was worth it. Hanging out of the window watching the gondalas and people go by was fun, not that we spent much time in room. Everything was comfortable although not large. Close to everything you want to see and the area felt safe and was quiet when needed to be. Breakfast was amazing, not what we would ordinarily eat, but so delicious we couldn't resist. Our room was actually ready for us when we arrived at 11am, but it was Sept, so I might not expect always. We loved the hotel and would recommend or return readily

The Hotel Violino d'Oro is a charm. The location at the Piazza St. Moise is ideal. While it is busy outside with a gondola station and people walking (as everyone does in Venice), it is actually quiet and secluded from the hurried San Marco, though it takes only a minute or two at most to get to the square. The vapporetto is easy access and one can walk from there to the hotel. We were here during the Redentore celebration and did not feel overwhelmed. Breakfast was a delight, sweets and your typical euro continental breakfast. There is an elevator and the rooms are air conditioned. The price you pay is for location.

Having stayed at the Violino d'Oro on many occasions before we were a little concerned at the need to stay in the annexe but we should not have worried. The rooms were as nicely appointed and tended as the main hotel. Only down side is the view as it faces on to the hotel next door, but with so many wonderful things to see in Venice who worries about a view from your bedroom? Always a great place to stay. So central, and well looked after. Worth every penny.

I especially liked the heated towel rack. Since this was our last stop in italy, not having a business center in the "hotel" to print out our boarding pass was a hassle. You can rent a notebook from them and email the boarding passes to the hotel for them to print, but it was easier to find the internet cafe near the Rialto Bridge and take care of it there. Nice breakfast and they have a bar, but no food except for at breakfast time. Restaurants and grocery stores are not in abundance in Venice like in the other cities.

All staff were very friendly and the hotel is in a perfect location. We have visited Venice on a number of occasions and the facilities and rooms are what we would expect in this price bracket i.e. there are likely to be little things to complain about if that's what you want to do. I have scored the hotel highly because of our overall impression, this is not a comparison with a four or five star hotel where we would expect a lot more. We are not worried about having a room with a view because we're never in it other than to sleep and I'm not sure how many rooms with 'views' there would be in this hotel, maybe a few at the front. Our room here was not in the main hotel and we had to walk around the corner. It felt like having our own apartment which was nice but there was no lift and a narrow staircase so if you travel with huge bags of luggage it is worth asking for a room in the main building. Would definitely stay here again.

Average hotel in the center of Venice. The room was small, old fashioned and the decor was bizarre. There was a horrible smell like something was rotten or wet in the room, quite disgusting. Room equipment was old, fridge was not working, not kettle in the room. The hotel was covered with scaffoldings, so no view on the canal, very dark room. Left luggage was without any surveillance at the bottom of the main stairs so anyone can steel your piece of luggage. Definitely not worth the price. There are so many nice hotels in Venice, do not go to this one.

Is is direktly beneath the gondola hiring kiosk. You will be misleaded if you look for Campiello Barozzi. The Hotel is very nice. Location is perfect 2 min from piazza san marco. The rooms are small but clean and quiet. The breakfast is excellent. Beds and bathrooms are good.

This was a beautiful hotel, perfect location, helpful friendly staff and the best deal I could find for such a beautiful hotel and location. Right on the canal with the beautiful sounds of the singing gondoliers. I will definitely stay here again next time.

Thank you very much again for the nice stay! This was my second time in this hotel. We did have a huge room, facing a square at the site of the hotel, nr. 208. The room was excellent; classic Venetian chique. We did use the terrace on top for some sunny resting. Great place to stay in the middle of Venice.

There is nothing I could possibly fault about this hotel or staff, when we arrived there was a lovely well enjoyed bottle of bubbly in our room, we were only a genuine 3 minute walk from St Mark's square. the staff were polite and extremely helpfull. the room was spacious, exceptional clean and well maintained. i would recomend this hotel to anyone visiting Venice and would happily stay there again.

We had an excellent time in Venice in no small part thanks to this wonderful hotel. At first, we thought the loud shouting of the gondolamen at the near-by canal would spoil our night but the windows had perfect isolation, and the gondolamen retired for the night around 11 p.m. THe only negative thing about the room was the low water pressure in the shower booth. The staff were very helpful and welcoming, the breakfast was excellent and delicious, the hotel surroundings were beautiful, very conveniente for both Rialto and San Marco. We will definitely stay here again when we next travel to Venice. Highly recommendable.

The hotel provides a very nice stay, it made us feel like "living Venice". We were sorry for stayed there only for one night. The room was really well decorated and clean. The only inconvenience was the high cost for use the wifi connection, a service we used for free in many others hotels.

Perfect location in that you can walk to everything. Just a few minute's walk from St. Mark's Square, but far enough away that you are not in the tourist flow. Easy walk with your suitcase to the water taxi & vaporettos. Very clean. Helpful staff. Description and pictures on Vanere are accurate.

The Hotel Violino d'Oro was very good value for money. Its location was excellent if you wish to be close to St. Mark's Square. The breakfast was good and well presented. Nothing warm however. The only real fault which I could find was that the shower cubicle was very small. You could hardly bend down to wash yourself. Furthermore, the water kept flowing hot and then cool. One hint. There is no night life in Venice. Stay in the hotel and have a drink. It's much cheaper and the bars are mostly empty.

A beautiful hotel! The decor is amazing with all the venetial glass lamps and gorgous curtains, abutting a canal where the gondoliers are parked and singing, big bathroom, best breakfast we had in Europe. The service was great and the location terrific. It was a five minute walk from the water taxi station. We loved it.

Very convenient (5 min walk) to the S Marco Vallaresso boat stop to the airport. As a first timer to Venice and solo traveller, wasn't hard to find & get around from this location. Main reason for choosing this hotel was location so hence the high price i was willing to pay. Walls are not sound proof at all & you can hear everyone's conversation(if I understood Italian). The room I got had to be entered along the side of the hotel walking in between a few hotels & up about 5 flights of narrow stairs without an elevator. The hotel staff were very pleasant & spoke English. The room was a bit dark but clean. The washroom was nice, very roomy but the shower stall was very tiny and tight even for my size(5'6",110lbs). Good continental breakfast with selection of ham, cheese, cereals, buns, croissants, apples, coffee machine and various juices.

We stayed at this hotel during Carnevale and have already booked our return visit! The hotel is two minutes walk from St Mark's Square and has rooms overlooking either a picturesque square or a canal. All of the hotel staff were very polite, helpful and friendly and we loved the fact that they were in 18th century costume, which really helped us to enter the Carnevale atmosphere! Our room was furnished in the Venetian style and was kept spotlessly clean.

The location of the hotel is excellent with nice interior decoration. Easy to find the way from disembarking the waterbus from the airport, only 5 minutes walk. From the hotel you are in walking distance to most celebrities. If travelling to Venice again we will book at Violino d'Oro again.

Very nice hotel. Excellent location. It was a little noisy at night because the gondola pick up was right outside our window. It was worth a little noise however because it was great entertainment watching all the activity. Our room had three nice big windows. The location of the hotel was perfect very close to everything and the water taxi to the airport.

this hotel is a bit pricey, but considering it's excellent location and venice's expensiveness, i would certainly stay here again. the staff was very helpful as there was a mixup at the airport with our luggage, and they called up FCO airport several times on our behalf. they were genuinely very helpful and made the situation much better. the hotel is extremely convenient for sightseeing, eating, shopping, and just wandering around.

This hotel had an excellent location, with beautiful rooms, and they provided a great breakfast. We would be happy to book here again if we return to Venice. The only negative was that there was no wireless internet access on our floor, and there was a daily charge for use in the areas where it was available.

we have visited Venice on many other occassions but never in winter - the hotel was very much as described in other reviews - we were welcomed on arrival and were in our room within 5 minutes. Very friendly and helpful staff. The room itself, although smallish, was very clean and comfortable. We had upgraded to a canal view on the second floor and were not dissappointed - beautiful views of a small canal, gondaliers and st Moise piazza. It rained on one of the days and the hotel was able to provide us with an umbrella - very useful. We would definitely stay at the hotel again as it was very good value for money and the location was ideal - right near San Marco Square and walking distance to all the sites
