The Hotel Spagna is located in a good position just five minutes from the railway station and in a street full of lovely shops and restaurants. We had a very comfortable stay and would recommend this small hotel as an ideal base from which to explore Venice.

Overall exactly as described, but the front desk staff could be a bit off-putting if you are not used to the 'italian way.' I'd stay here again because it was a nice and clean hotel near the train station and easy to come and go from.

Hotel is quite well located close to the train station which avoids you to carry the bags long, as most would. Staff was not helpfull at all, we arrived with a baby and had to carry the baggage 2 stairs up (there is no elevator) without any help, they didn't even came to show the room or hold the doors, neither explained the basics such as breakfast time, dining room location, etc. Room was smelly but big enough and they properly cleaned every day.

This hotel is a great little find. It's a very short walk from the train station, which was great since we went during the rainy season. The day staff was great. The evening staff person was cranky. No one explained to us that some hotels in Italy require you to drop off the room key at the desk when you leave. Well, I got a rather abrupt lecture from the night clerk about that, which ended with, "You are not in America where you can do whatever you want." Also, my son, who is studying in Florence, decided to surprise us there instead of waiting a week for us to get to him. I asked to rent a cot (which would have easy fit into the big room) but the night clerk said no, even after I explained that he was a student and he surprised us for one night. So, I rented a separate room for him. The night clerk gave my son a big lecture about how this rental was only for one person and if the police came and found two people in the room, we were going to have to pay for that extra person. I thought this was a little needless, but my son said that it was more typical. I know much of this sounded negative, but it really wasn't - it was that our circumstances were a bit different. Other than that, it was a nice stay.

First impressions on arrival were excellent. Very good welcome given and information on Venice provided by the lady at reception. Other reception staff also very helpful. My room was spotlessly clean as were all other areas of the hotel. Reception is on the first floor. My room was on the third floor. There is no lift. I had a singel room of adequate size. The bathroom and shower were very good. Continental breakfast was adequate. Location of hotel very good 300 yards from the rail station and 200 yards from the vaporetto stop to take one to Piazza San Marco and all the other stops en route.I walked all over Venice from the hotel. It is a 15 minute walk to Rialto and 25 minues to Piazza San Marco although browsing the many attractions en route can add time to this. I would certainly stay at this hotel on a future visit.

I liked my stay at Hotel Spagna. The hotel is situated at Linea di Spagna, near the Santa Lucia railway station and near of it you can take all the lines of "vaporetti" to go to the city centre. Near the hotel there are a lot of restaurants. The room was very big and beautiful, all of it decorated in green.

Hotel Spagna meet my expectations and I would recommend to others. I liked the location being close to the train station and it was easy to reach the main attractions in the city from this location.

Hotel location is very good, 5 minutes from train station, central and yet not too loud. Rooms small but equipped with newly done bathrooms, air conditioning and TV - ok if you just want to relax after walking all day in Venice. Staff friendly and very helpful. Bed was made and towels changed every day. Breakfast must be improved, esp. those softy white rolls :(

Venice is an expensive city and this was an attractively priced option. It was as I expected. The room was small, but clean. I really liked the front desk staff who were very pleasant and helpful. The location is excellent, just a short walk from Santa Lucia station. It is a a very popular street, so there are big crowds strolling by in the daytime.

Hotel is farther than 100 meters from train station. However our room was large for European hotel room. Staff was friendly and helpful. We stay in Venice often and we consider this a good buy. Breakfast room is very small. We took it as an opportunity to get to know people and shared our table. Keep in mind that Venice is very old and most hotels do not have elevators and you may be required to carry luggage up and down stairs. Look at it as part of the European experience. This ain't Kansas and that's why you're here. There are several restaurants & pizza shops in the area along with places to buy bottled water & such. We are Americans currently living in Italy.

The concierges were very polite and helpful, answering all my questions. They were multilingual, too! The front rooms may have been noisy, coz we were on a major tourist walkway (very convenient), but my room at the back was very quiet!Breakfast was great and the ladies who worked in the breakfast room were very efficient!(and lovely!)

Venice in general is very expenisive, but this hotel is very close to the Train Station, and the room was one of the nicer ones in my stay in Italy. The staff was very helpful- especially Augustino! And the breakfast smells were the yummiest! It's about a 20 minute walk from Ponte Rialto, but it's very doable. I woiuld definitely stay there again.

I think we got off on the wrong foot!! We arrived and I asked a quaetion of the man at the counter that he had already answerd, just for confirmation. I was told off. However after that, we got on OK. Close to Grand Canal and locality useful. Facilities poor. Ever tried showering in a shower 2'0" by 2'0"?? Breakfast poor in comparison with othre places. Overall we referred to the hotel from then on as Fawlty Towers!! Probably a bit unfair, but you may get better value for money!

I booked separately for 3 rooms and then a further single room. Despite having a booking code for each of these, when we arrived there were only 3 available rooms. They had assumed the extra booking to be an error on my part - why not email the customer to check? However they were apologetic and were able to offer 4 rooms for the second night. I would have rated them higher had it not been for this.

Air conditioning was marginal, made more so by the fact that it went off automatically when leaving the room. Restaurant below played music loud enough to be disturbing. Hotel staff was unable to handle this, we had to do so personally when getting ready to go to sleep. Room refridgerator did not work, staff said this one was not yet scheduled for replacement. One of overhead lights did not work, nothing was done about it. On the other hand, staff was extremely helpful about answering tourist questions & making suggestions about visiting Venice. Location close to train station made it much easier to get there with luggage than many other hotels in Venice.

This hotel is close to the train station and is reachable without going up and down steps on a bridge or taking a boat. Breakfast started too late for me. The room was dark, but very clean. There are very steep steps to the reception area which could be a problem for some people.

We had a lovely time and were well taken care of by the hotel staff. There is no elevator, but we were only on the 2nd floor so it wasn't too bad. Breakfast was served with a smile and fresh juice or coffee. The noise from the street was quite loud, but I believe that is a part of Venice with the echoing from street level. Also the hotel is close to the train station which is very helpful, but you hear luggage rumbling along the cobbels all times of the day or night. Overall, the stay was wonderful and we would definately stay there again.

The room is tiny. The hotel location is excellent. The hotel is 3 minutes walking distance from the train station; you don't need to catch the ferrybus to get to the hotel. The location is safe and is easy to find should you get lost. The hotel IS in the middle of the tourist beaten path. i would stay here again. The hotel is low in ambience, but it is cheap, clean, safe and I didn't need to walk too far from the station with my bags. You DO have to carry your bags up stairs to your room; there is no elevator.

Sorry to be negative, but I would not recommend this hotel. This is the fourth hotel I have stayed at in Venice and the others have all been good. Our room was a bit shabby, the bathroom a bit smelly and the towels in the bathroom a bit damp. Was it really necessary to phone us in the room and tell us off for not leaving our key card at reception when going out for breakfast? (We missed the hotel breakfast because we were 10 mins late.) The major redeaming factor was the extremely nice, helpful and welcoming gentleman on reception in the evening when we checked in.

Staff was a little stand-offish and was prone to given unkind generalizations about people from certain countries even while we were standing right there. Our reserved quad room was not available. They changed our booking and would not make it right by lowering our price. Air conditioning did not work. They told us they were working on it, but it was a hot and miserable night. It was never fixed. Again, we should have been given a rate reduction or something to make it right, but they said there was nothing they could do. The rooms are small, but nice. Stairs could be difficult for some. Breakfast was very good. I do not complain unless there is a blatant reason to, please do not stay at this hotel as they did not live up to my expectations, and made no effort to correct it. We were very dissapointed and it tainted our Venice experience.

Since there was no elevator, although the load was heavy, it had to carry on stairs, and it was troubled very much. The woman of touch of the charge who prepares breakfast is bad, and comfortableness felt it bad. The room was clean and large, and the window was also poked two, and since the comfortableness in the room was comfortable, it was good.

The front desk staff at Spagna are wonderful and very accommodating. However, the breakfast offering was not good. A buffet should be offered rather than having to wait for the waitresses to take care of you. Also, the waitresses seemed more interested in talking amongst themselves vs. taking care of guests. I only stayed at Spagna for 2 nights. After the first morning's pitiful breakfast, I ate breakfast outside the hotel instead.

The price was appaling for the cost of the double room i booked, which is pretty much what i figured for Venice anyway. However, judging by the complete lack of services provided, no complementary refreshment eventhough i booked a honeymoon suite, breakfast was appaling, staff made no effort to smile or warm crossiants as i found out on the very last day, and tried to cut corners in every way to reduce costs and bleed me dry!!! The only good point is the location being close to amenities such as the main train station and water buses, however, as Venice is small anyway, there should be no problems in getting another hotel or BnB which is close to the amenities. So to summarise, i would never spend another night in Hotel Spagna again!

We enjoyed our stay. the hotel was ideally situated as we came and went by rain. We were grateful for be allowed to leave our luggage at the hotel on departing until later in the day. In booking we could not seem to either combine two rooms in one order or differentiate between double and twin bedded rooms although this might have been due to being newcomers to internet booking.

Venice is known as expencive so I didnt have very high expectations around the hotel, but I was positively suprised. The Spagna is run by a family and they were all so wonderful to me during my stay. Especially Antonio in the front desk, it was like having a caring granfather around. When I wanted to book two ekstra nights they went out of their way to make it possible. The hotelprices are also almost half of their normal price when you book on the net. Spanga has great location and is easy to find and to move around from. The room was ok cleaned, bed was made and towels new every day. Showerdoor would be a bit narrow for very big people but worked good for me. Breakfast was simple but ok for italian standards. For me Spagna was the best place I could have chosen. And especcially for the great staff and service. I would go back to this hotel anytime.

It was larger than I expected after reading other's comments (It is Europe after all!) The bathroom was cramped and they could have used some bleach in there. The decore was nice and the staff was friendly. Breakfast was good -avoid the hotchoclate.

The hotel is located very conveniently close to the railway station. We cheched in after 23:00 and and had no trouble to find it and had a welcome reception. We had a very pleasant stay here and the breakfasts were more than adequate. The desk staff were helpful with directions

Spagna is convenient and cosy. It is incredibly close to the central railway station and piers. With shops and restaurants around, it is on the main street which leads to the major attractions including San Macro within a 25min walk. The price was reasonable for my stay at the end of June and early July. Spagna is recommended for visitors to Venice, in particular to those who visit there for the first time. Hope the hotel would not raise its room rates because of my favourable comments and the others'.

Great location especially as it's so close to St Lucia...thankfully the room was fairly quiet though on the thoroughfare ( double glazed windows). Air con good and room size most commodious. Staff friendly, would go again.

Very good place to stay. Near train station and main area. Also near water taxi station and laundry facility. No internet access but within a minute of internet cafes. Price was high, but could be reasonable for the time of the year.

The hotel is in a great location. The room was very comfortable, clean and nicely decorated. Breakfast was good - certainly above the Italian norm. I would certainly stay there again.

Hotel is easy to find and location is grt should you require a hotel close to the station. this hotel is just next to water bus stands and about a 1/2 hr stroll to S. Marks'. Rooms are clean and spacious. the receptionists are very nice, and helpful. price is acceptable as Venice is an expensive place to stay. I will definitely recommend this hotel to all my friends in the future.

Excellant position only minutes from the water buses, railway station and bus station. We were on the third floor no lift but this did not cause us a problem. We would like to visit Venice again and would have no hesitation in staying there again.

For elder people, I think it would be helpful to note in the web page that this hotel has not an elevator. When I arrived, I told the recepcionist that the TV did not function. I stood for 4 nights and the TV was not repaired or changed.

The staff were not only welcoming but friendly, multi-lingual and eager to offer suggestions. The hotel is very close to the train station which was convenient but our room overlooked a busy street. Thus, the negatives were that it could be noisy at night (but the windows kept out much of the noise) and the shower stall was tiny. Otherwise, the quad room was spacious by European standards and the staff were wonderful. We would recommend the hotel and stay here again.

I had a wonderful time in Venice. The hotel room was small but clean and comfortable. The staff were very kind and helpful, giving us information about concerts and places to eat. They enriched my stay and made me feel welcome.

Great hotel - you don't get much for your money in Venice, and at this place you get quite a lot. En suite bathrooms in every room and easy to find near the train station. Be warned it's a bit of a trek to St Marks unless you take the boat bus, but as far as the hotel goes this place is great.

We had a very good stay at Spagna. The staff was really helpful, and the rooms were clean and spacious. However, the air conditioning didn't work well, and it was hot and humid. It was stuffy and hot with the windows closed,so we left the window open the first night, and woke up covered with mosquito bites. Other than that, it was good!

The Hotel Spagna was well located, only a short walk (approx.3min) from the train station, with plenty of good restaurants and tourist shops in the same street. The reception staff were all friendly, and spoke a useful amount of English. The rooms were fairly small, but were clean and modern and comfortable. With everything that was promised in the Hotel description. eg air-conditioning, on suite shower room, TV etc. If I were to return to Venice in the future I would happily pick the Hotel Spagna again.

We arrived at Midnight, we had called ahead and were told that this was no problem. The room was much larger than expected. It was close to everything, and great because we saw a lot more because it was not near all the tourist attractions. The concierge Agostino was fabulous, he arranged a tour to Murano and had a bottle of champagne and red wine for us because of our 10th wedding anniversary. The only small complaint was the shower as it stopped up after 10 minutes, but otherwise this was a perfect hotel great value for the money!!!!!!!!!!!

This has been a pleasant stay, the location is very perfect with just 5 minutes walk from the station. Perfect for single traveller. They also give you good advice and information on how to arrive to different locations. They even allow me to deposit my lugguages and help carry it downstairs (attention no elevator..) so that I can go check my train schedule on the day of blackout. I really thank them for their kindness. The price is economical and I would recommend it to everyone.
