About Hotel Santa Marina

hotel front view Hotel Santa Marina hotel front view Formerly an ancient convent, the Santa Marina hotel occupies two buildings in a central neighborhood of Venice, between the Rialto Bridge and the Church of Saints John and Paul. Its interior is the epitome of elegance. The dark wood panel walls, the work of skilled craftsmen, create a classical backdrop for a warm and intimate atmosphere.

The red and white marble flooring and the graceful Murano glass help create a beautiful ambience. In the summer season, between April and September, breakfast can be served on the enchanting terrace with a view across Santa Marina Square. In addition, the lobby is the ideal place to read or relax.

Located on three floors, the hotel has a convenient elevator.

    General map

With its quiet location in a typical Venetian square, the hotel boasts proximity to the 16th century Giovanni Crisostomo Theater, today the Malibran Theater, home of an important chamber season; it occupies the spot where Marco Polo's house was located.

The hotel is located only a 5-minute walk from the Rialto Bridge, with its quaint fish market, and the Church of Saints John and Paul, where the Doges were crowned and buried, among the best examples of Venetian Gothic architecture. In the immediate vicinity of the hotel, guests can also admire the Church of Santa Maria dei Miracoli, a precious jewel from the Renaissance, entirely lined with polychromatic marble.

Would thoroughly recommend the Hotel Santa Marina. Have made several visits to Venice and this is definitely the best hotel we have stayed in. We asked for a room with a canal view and although it was a half view really, we saw an extremely interesting corner of Venice-gondolas and working boats going by regularly. Our double superior room which was attractively decorated gave us extra space to spread out in. What really differentiates one hotel from another is the staff and the reception staff at Santa Marina were excellent-welcoming and efficient.

Accommodating and friendly staff. Absolutely beautiful rooms and public spaces. Wonderful variety at the breakfast buffet. Wireless network in rooms would be a nice improvement.

The hotel was nice, good location, clean and tidy and helpful staff. The only real grumble would be that you could hear outside and people in the other rooms.

1. Stays of up to 10 days. Comfort. Airconditioning in the summer. Great selection for breakfast. Friendly and helpful staff. For our particular size room two people at a maximum.Quiet area. Nice view of side canal. 2. This was our first visit to Hotel Santa Marina.

This was a very pretty hotel and the room was beautifully appointed, but definitely the smallest hotel room we have ever stayed in -- about 8 feet by 9 feet, with a tiny alcove for a desk and armadio. We were fortunate that we were not traveling with several bags; we had to put our one medium-sized piece under the small desk. No one told us we would not be in the building with the rest of the hotel. We had to walk all the way around the front in the evening to enter the main part. The listing said there was an internet plug in the room -- there was not, but the lobby was a 'hot-spot' where you could use your lap top and access the internet. The directions to the hotel were useless. If it weren't for the gondoliers who were on the street trying to drum up business, we would have never found the place. The breakfast was pretty good, and for Venice it was not a bad value with a good location (once you found it!), and quiet in the evening.

Great position. The Santa Marina is a compact, high quality hotel, although probably quite expensive for the facilities available. The were three breakfast/bar areas to chose from when visited, although the choice at breatfast was perhaps more limited than you would expect from a 4 star hotel. All this said our stay at The Santa Marina was thoroughly enjoyable aided by friendly staff and a few glasses of prosecco!

An excellent hotel very near to the most famous attractions of Venezia. The staff was very helpfull and there was a free travel to the Murano Island with water-taxi. The place of the hotel was very convinied at the road between St Marcus Square and rialto brige, with piazza San Marco 10 min away and Rialto Bringe only five minutes. Near thw hotel there are beatiful churcew too. The only "bad" of the hotel is that it was a little expensive, but the perfect side and the classic atmosfere is enough.

we visited venice for 5 days for a wedding with 90 close friends! we seemed to get the best value Hotel. The location is excellent and arriving late at night it is great to have the water taxi take you straight to your hotel. But get a map as soon as you get there, if you are coming home late at night, it can be hard to find your way, but good fun as Venice is such a safe city.

Pity about the utility works going on right outside in the plaza. But if, like us, you were up at 7.30, it was not too much of an issue - and they will come to end soon. The plaza itself will be pleasant (once the works are finished), with a cafe, a tabac and a restaurant opposite. The accomodation was excellent, very friendly. The little touches made it though. Like every time you went out, the room was tidied, new towels were provided every time you showered - even during the day, and the bed turned down when you returned to the hotel in the evening. Only about 8 minutes walk to the Plaza St Marco, and similar to the opposite side of the island for the trips to the other islands. All in all a very friendly and comfortable hotel. Thanks

Santa Marina is the best hotel I have stayed at in Italy, very well situated for visiting St mark's and Rialto

This hotel appears on my older Venice map as a 3*. Presumably it has undergone some enhancements in the meantime to warrant its current 4* status but it is not clear what. I would still rate this hotel as a 3*. The bedroom, although clean and pleasantly decorated, was neither large nor luxurious. The welcome was circumspect rather than warm and I, for one, do not like to see reception staff smoking at the desk whilst dealing with the guests. The continental breakfast was adequate but hardly memorable, and was served in a slightly surly manner by a lady who banged the crockery around loudly, as if annoyed by some perceived slight. The bar area looked to be largely deserted in the evening. The hotel is in a fantastic location, being within easy walking distance of the key tourist sites but just far enough away so as to escape the crowds. The outside of the hotel is tastefully decorated and instantly recognisable from its photograph. This hotel represents relatively good value for money for its location and is perfectly adequate and agreeable for a visit to the city. I would stay there again but I am surprised that it warrants 4 stars.

The Hotel was excellent, a true Venice gem. The pictures adequately depicted the rooms and hotel decor.

Pleasant clean and friendly, bar closes rather early (11.00pm). Worst thing is detail on how to get from water bus to hotel. More detail should be given on how to get from the airport, together with an indication of price you should expect to pay

As a tourist the map does not help. If you take the vaparetto, when you get off you feel lost, but as you head the only way you can go the hotel is the unassuming building on your left, located on a quaint old plaza. The pictures of the rooms did not look at all like the web site. Look at the front desk picture. The rooms we had had been redone in georgous wood and marble. Our rooms did not have elevator access, up one flight, like in a separate area. Breakfast was Ok, service good, free papers even in English available to share. Slightly off the route between the Rialto and St Marks, it was convenient to all but there were several turns to make and we had to pay attention to the route. In all we thought it was a gem.

How to reach Hotel Santa Marina
