We can honestly say that Ambra, Stefania & Roberto always welcomed us warmly and with a smile. Both girls were excellent in giving us suggestions and useful tips in excellent English (even though we can speak Italian). The only minus is the narrow and somewhat dark street where the hotel is located. About the width of the street there is nothing that could be done (most of Venice is like that) but the street could very easily be brightened up with more light and perhaps a coat of a light coloured paint!! The hotel is in excellent location and very easily reached from the vaporetto.

We needed to stay only for 2 nights, so it was great. The staff is wonderful, friendly, helpful. The only thing - was very difficult to get to the hotel. The direction from web was not so helpful, and we made a long trip with our luggage. It's very important issue. And please put screens on hotel windows. The mosquitos bites were bothering us during entire trip for next 2 weeks.

The staff, especially Stephanie and Amberia, at the Hotel San Salvador were a balm for jet-lagged travellers. They were always cheery, patient and very helpful. Their English was very good and they gave us great advice on restaurant selections and using the vaporetto. Our room was clean and comfortable, although nondescript. The location of the hotel was ideal-steps away from the Rialto Bridge and ten minutes from the Piazzo San Marco. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this place to friends.

I was in a single room and it was tiny, but that was ok for me....even though it was difficult to move around with my luggage. There is no lift so if you have lots or heavy luggage be prepared to Carry it up several stairs! A little hard to locate due to location, but location was great once you found the hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff!

The hotel's location is great - only a few step from the Rialto bridge - so if you want to stay right in the centre of the city, and only need a place to sleep, it's a nice little hotel at a good price. The receptionists were very welcoming and helpfull. The room was very clean and new towels were provided every day. The towels were, however, like dish towels - it would have been nice with some terry towels instead. The bed was not very comfortable because the mattress was much to hard. You should also be aware that the rooms are not very sound proof.

Hotel San Salvadore was very enjoyable. The staff was extremely friendly and conveniently located to central Venice making all parts an easy walk. In spite of being so close to Rialto Bridge, the hotel is a little hard to find initially, being just off a main throughway. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and will return on our next trip to Venice.

Very basic,no breakfast a real minus as travelling with young grandson. This is really no more than a hostel, the sisters very willing. Adequate with young children , certainly not for couples as rooms laughably small with a better than nothing bathroom. To be fair plenty of hot water and spotless towels. Very dark, but like most very small hotels I suspect. Steep stair access from dark alley.

Great location, just a block from the Rialto Bridge, close to vaporettos. Owners are extremely friendly and helpful with advice on restaurants and places to visit. The room and bathroom were fine. One drawback is that there are a couple bars nearby that can be noisy till after midnight, and cigarette smoke can drift into open windows if you don't have the AC on. No breakfast is offered but there are several nice bars nearby for coffee and croissants, etc. Overall we would stay there again, keeping in mind that Venice is an incredibly expensive city.

The hotel had all of the services we needed except one. The breakfast was good, the room was fine and the staff ( Ambra and Stephanie ) were terrific. However, the one thing missing was FREE HIGH QUALITY Internet. I did not realize how much we would miss this. All other B&Bs/Hotels that we stayed at had FREE Internet. In future, I will base my selection on FREE Internet being a must have. ( Below I checked YES to return to this hotel, only if the Internet issue is corrected) Thanks Jim Calvert

We chose this room on the outstanding comments about the lovely sisters! The girls were fabulous and very helpful. The only disappointment was the size of the room. It was too small to even unpack both suitcases! We would return but would need a bigger room for comfort.

I loved the staff and location. There are three drawbacks: 1) thin walls - I could hear the conversations going on in the next room late at night 2) lack of coffee in the morning. There is little public space for breakfast but a coffee machine would be welcome. One has to go out and find a cafe and come back 3) high charge for wi-fi when other hotels give it free

The two young women who run this hotel gave me hands-down the best welcome I've ever had at any hotel I've stayed in. They were absolutely lovely. They had recommendations when I had questions, they encouraged me to practice my Italian with them, and they greeted me each time I saw them as though they really cared how I was doing and were delighted to see me. Of course the rooms are tiny, because the hotel is in the center of Venice. But they were decorated with an eye to Venetian style and I was perfectly comfortable. You can hear what's going on outside, but things quiet down around 11pm and I wasn't kept awake. I felt it was a good deal, and I will without a doubt stay there again when I go back to Venice.

The reason I chose this hotel for my stay in Venice was because of the reviews. Everyone mentioned the friendliness of the two sisters who run the hotel. I just had to meet them, so I booked three nights there. Ambra and Stefanie are lovely young Venice natives. As soon as my daughter and I arrived we felt like we were at home. I can't wait to return to Venice just so I can visit with them again. Another reason to stay here: it is close to the Rialto. There are signs pointing to the Rialto everywhere in the city, so it is easy to find your way back. Also close to good shopping area and boats.

From the moment we set foot in this small (but perfectly formed!)hotel which is perfectly located very close to the Rialto Bridge, we were made to feel so welcome by Ambra and Stefania, the two charming sisters who run it. They could not do enough to advise and assist us throughout our stay and were always so friendly, with a great sense of humour, and genuinely wanting to make our visit a memorable one. The room was spotless and linen changed virtually every day. We would definitely return and recommend it highly.

There is no public transportation in Venice save for on the water, so being close to a 'vaporetto'(the public transport--NOT the expensive water taxis)stop is really nice. This hotel is a VERY short walk from a popular stop 'Rialto Bridge'(that in addition to being a landmark, there are direction signs throughout Venice leading to the bridge) which is important because trying to follow a map in Venice is futile. St Marks Square is also a reasonably short walk or vaporetto ride away. The people who run the hotel are AWESOME! The hotel was more expensive than I would have liked, but this WAS springtime in Venioe,4 cruises let out that weekend, and I could have easily spent 5 times as much and not found a better place. I was extremely happy with this hotel.

Hotel San Salvador is an excelent choice if you want to spend a couple of days in the heart of Venice. The rooms are small, however they are spotless and they offer all you need for your stay. They also may not be very quiet, as they are rooms of an old building in the old town, however we didn't have any problem with that. The location is perfect, two minutes from Rialto bridge and five minutes from St. Marc square. Their love for Venice was contagious ! Ambran was our main source since we saw her every morning before we set out for the day. Stefanie was just as helpful in the afternoons. San Salvador was EXCELLENT. the close proximity to the Rialto Bridge made getting to and from VERY easy... just a few turns on a few streets and voila! I couldn't imagine staying somewhere further in the city and getting lost among the many beautiful, yet narrow streets:) Venice is small and getting around on foot or waterbus is easy so location is EXCELLENT. the STAFF was also EXCELLENT. The man who greeted us spoke very little english, but did his best to accommodate us and was sweet. There are two sisters who also worked the desk who speak english very well and were very nice and helpful and friendly. They were born and raised in Venice so they were perfect 'guides'. They even let us carry around an "italian language travel book' from their library. The room itself was acceptable. The only reason I rated our over all stay as a 9 was because it smelled a little funny- possibly from moisture, we killed 2 mosquitos. Small private bathroom- to be expected in Europe. Hot water runs out quick (within 6 minutes- and you can't fit 2 people in the shower at once no matter how small you are)- but we found that to be true in rome and florence, too. The bed was large, and looks just like the pictures. we had a window and high ceilings. steep steps when you enter but 24/hr service is AWESOME. Free WIFI is awesome... VENICE is awesome! LOVED this place- very happy with it:) October travel. mid-20s couple.

The room was awfully small and we hardly had any walking space in the room when we put our luggage in the room. The person manning the reception, Umbra, is the most friendly person we met in the whole of Italy. She was very passionate and gave plenty of advice on where to eat, what to see and where to go. Her sister was also friendly and helpful too, but we didn't see much of her. Umbra even helped us get more information on the transport workers' strike on the day we were leaving. She alone makes the stay worthwhile.

Great location, easy to get to from the vaporetti stop, and very friendly and hospitable staff. One minor mistake in the directions they provided was the name of the street to turn onto for Campo de San Bartolomo. I think the website used something other than "Campo", but everyone knew where San Bartolomo was. There's also a grocery within a 5-7 minute walk nearby. Plus the pizzeria downstairs is very good. And they have a cute little patio that you can sit outside at! We wish we had found out about it sooner, rather than our last night. Only big downer was no free wifi! It's very expensive across the city (8 Euros for 1 hour).

Wow. What an experience.! This is a truly delightful place to stay. Truly Venetian. Yes, the rooms are small, but this is Venice! Yes, the entrance is off a small, darkish alleyway, but this is Venice! Read the other reviews for perfect descriptions of how to find it. Right down the alleyway next to the Disney store. For the best gelati I tasted in Venice, go to the alleyway three streets to the left of the hotel! The sisters that manage the reception desk during the day are truly the friendliest people I've met on all my travels around the world. They offer help as if you're already their best friend, and nothing is too much trouble. I can't recomment this hotel highly enough. If you want glitz, go somewhere else. If you want a lovely, truly Venetian experience, then there's nowhere else to stay. I will recommend this hotel to all my friend who are coming to Venice. I can't think of a negative thing to say about this place.

Location is excellent especially for people want to stay close to Rialto Bridge and boats. This was my second time in Venice and preferred this area having lots of different restaurants, shops and close to almost everywhere in Venice.(last time we stayed in an other hotel near Plazza San Marco).Ladies at reception were very helpful and smiling. When we arrived at Venice Pop was in Venice and Piazza San Marco was closed.Lady at reception informed us very well and advised us what to do as alternative instead of walking to San Marco. So we didnot waste time by walking to San Marco we would not be allowed to enter.Last day other lady at reception helped us to carry our luggage to downstairs as my mother had difficulty to carry it.The room and and bathroom were very clean and the room was much bigger and comfortable (with refrigirator -room no.22)than I expected.Real value for money.More than excellent for a 'two stars' hotel. I felt so bad I forgot to give them tips when I checked out, they totally deserved it. The guest room and the private bathroom is very clean. The girls at the front desk could not have been more helpful or kind, for that alone I'd stay here again. The room is very cute, down to the venetian glass mirror. I chose this hotel based on location, in my experience it is easier to find hotels near the Rialto bridge. This hotel was beyond easy to find. The restaurant below it, Da Mamo, was also very good.

This hotel is fine for a short stay in Venice, and is good for the price. Most welcoming and helpful staff. A bit noisy at night, from the surrounding alleys, but not after midnight. I would stay again.

Simply superb location about two minutes walk from the Rialto bridge. Up one of Venice's many alleys so reasonably quiet until you leave the alley to magically enter Venices' sights and sounds of "gondola, gondola!" Very clean. Welcoming staff even if like us you arrive at 130am because of a delayed flight. And if it happens to you there is a final bus from Marcopolo airport at 0020 to central Venice where water buses run throughout the night. Prego and graze.

My room was really tiny but it did not matter, I was only there to sleep. The staff was extremely friendly and willing to help. And the location is perfect, so to say 'next to the Rialto bridge'.

The sisters at the hotel are very nice. They gave us helpful tips to go to the market, veniceconnected place, and travel agent. There was a strike the day we left venice, and one of the sister was very nice in checking the boat and the train schedule for us. The room is small and good enough for our overall staying (We didn't stay much in the hotel). It's closed to Rialto bridge, so it was helpful to use it as a landmark for direction. Overall, we will stay here again.

Good value hotel in good location near Rialto bridge and San Marco square. Rooms are small, but acceptable for the price in venice and we didn't spend much time in them. Only some staff speak anything other than Italian and that made for some difficult communications, but we managed.

We are a very picky couple !!!. We found Great staff !! Warm, friendly & always willing to help. Entrance to Hotel is awful, there's no getting away from that but we had a very good stay. It was very hot outside but the air con in the room was perfect. For 80 Euros a night, no breakfast. It was good! Very clean room (No20)We envied the people in the fancy receptioned hotels many times, but we spent the lavish hotel money on food and drink and boy, is it expensive. All in all a very good stay. Ignore entrance, enjoy the smiley staff and walk your feet off around venice. Get away from the Rialto Bridge asap. Find the quiet back streets and squares and enjoy a cold beer or wine. Directions. From Piazzale Roma : We took the No2 ACTV water bus to the Rialto bridge. Get off boat, turn left. Get to foot of Rialto bridge. Turn right. walk straight forward. Find yourself in small square, Look left you will see statue. look ahead and a bit too the right and you see Disney store. Head for that and a passage way next to it with San Salvador sign posted at waist level. Enjoy !!! Best wishes. Steve & Nicky

The hosts were excellent. All the other comments were spot on in the description of how helpful they were. The room was small but that's typical of a European hotel room. It was absolutely spotless. The close quarters in Venice make for a lot of street/people noise. I've heard there are some areas in the city that are a bit quieter, but this isn't one of them. I think it's due to the proximity to both the Rialto Bridge and Piazza San Marco. So it's kind of a trade-off. Be close to things and get noise, be far from things and get quiet. Overall, a great place to stay but a bit loud.

Venice is ridiculously overpriced - and so are the hotels! This one is at least conveniently central, although that means noisy during daytime as it is too crowded outside( (But night was very quiet.) We tried "da mamo", one of the two restaurants that are just below the hotel - it is excellent!

It was a very good hotel for the price I paid. It was very close to the Rialto Bridge, so no need to take the water buses (which are rather expensive) to do some sightseeing. The hotel staff was very kind and they were even expecting me when I arrived. It is not an easy place to find, but is really close to Rialto, less than 5 minutes walk. A good way to find it would be to look for the Disney store and from there take the narrow street on the store's left, the hotel is right there. The room was clean and I have no complaints about my stay there. I'd stay again in this hotel.

We really enjoyed our stay at San Salvador, the hotel was easy to find (once we followed the directions provided, didn't have as much luck on our own), the staff was super nice and the hotel was very nice in general. It being Venice room size was on the small side, but it is to be expected and it wasn't a big deal at all for us, after all you're in Venice, why would you spend time in your room besides when sleeping?

For the price we paid, this hotel has a great location in sense that it is near to the Rialto boat stops and an easy walk to major sites like st. mark's square. We are glad to have not stayed close to St Marks as the place was flooded and getting our luggage through flood won't be pleasant. Staff was excellent. The two girls at the counter told us about flood waters and not to panic if you hear alarms. They also recommended places to eat - which seems to be packed with people. You can smoke in the breakfast room (which is actually a covered balcony) that was just next to our room so my husband was very pleased. We got a bigger room with a little door to the same balcony. The steps up to the hotel is small and steep but we had help with our luggage. The shower area is a little small but we are okay with that. The hotel definitely exceeded our standards because we were expecting a small room as seen from pictures posted by other guests.

It was the first time, me and my wife in Venice. The hotel was excellent. It is a family business and all the members of the family were very friendly. The room that we stayed was with 3 beds and it was comfortable and nice decorated. The hotel was very clean and in a very good location inside the city. Next time in Venice, definitely i will stay in the same hotel.

Ambra and Stefania are fantastico! We had a wonderful stay in an extremely large room for Venice... #20. The location is perfect if a little hard to find... the directions could be a little clearer since the hotel is on a very small calle... when in Piazza Bartolomeo, turn right and look for the first left... there is a sign on the ground for Hotel San Salvador directly under a sign for a public telephone (a red phone handle on a white circle)... the hotel itself is on the right between the pizzeria and the ristorante.... say hello to Ambra and Stefania from Patrick and Tom from Genova...

I'm not one to complain so I'll make this simple and quick: Like many in Venice.. The hotel is down a back alley... BUT very close to the Rialto Bridge. The people who worked there were very nice and helpful. Here's the bad: - The bathroom had mold growing on the walls above the shower and ceiling. Also on the plastic curtain that slides closed. - The air conditioner was horrible... might as well not have had one. - There is literally no public areas (except for a small terrace with no view... literally a place to smoke and that's it) I really don't think the place is worth the money by any means... Find another hotel.

This place was our most expensive place in Italy, but it's Venice, everything is expensive. The bed wasn't very comfortable and the hairdryer was not really even a real hairdryer (bring your own) but the staff was wonderful and very friendly. Overall it was a superb location, close to everything and it was relatively easy to find. If you go to Venice, eat at La Bitta and get their gnocchi and their Collalta house wine, AWESOME!! Venice was beautiful but very crowded.

I really enjoyed my stay at San Salvador. It is located in a little alley, so initally a little hard to find. But there is a sign at the alley entrance, and the directions/map are accurate, so just take a moment to look around when you arrive. The two girls that worked the desk were very friendly and spoke decent english. The room was the tiniest we stayed in but clean and nicely decorated. There's no elevator, but it's only one flight up (a long flight with heavy luggage though!). The location cannot be beat- you are right by the Rialto bridge and close walking distance to St. Mark's. If you don't mind a small room, well worth the price!

This was an excellent hotel. Was quite expensive, especially as it didn't include breakfast - but then everything seems to be expensive in Venice and we really enjoyed our stay. It was in a fantastic location, close to the Rialto bridge and San Marco square. The hosts were lovely and very helfpul with restaurant recommendations. Would definitely stay there again.
