tiny room but clean and efficient. Quiet. loved the location as close to St. Marco Sq but 12 min walk keeping most tourists in other areas. We literally walked the entire 3 days only using the Grand Canal to go to and from train station. Vencie is a small town, really.

It's not so close to Sant Mark square, but it's only 7 minutes walk. It was a lit bit dificult to find it, but everything in Venice is dificult to find, because it's a labirinth!

The photographs viewed on the website (venere.com)in no way reflects that of the hotel. The reception appears spacious on the website photograph yet in reality it is tiny although adaquate for the state of the hotel. The website bedroom photographs look nothing like the room which we were placed in Nunber 7 which, was utterly disgusting. You have to enter the hotel from a golley strewn with rubbish which did not encourage our first encounter. Other than wash/sleep at the hotel for two nights we stayed away and spent no other time there.

The room was a bit hard to find, especially for first timers in Venezia and at night. However, after some time asking local store owners, we were able to find it. The room was exactly as pictured and described and we had a pleasant stay. Thank you!

The room was dingy and old. No natural light as it faced other building walls on all sides. Above a resturant so smelt. Bathrooms had water all over the floor all the time. The staff are fine. Venice is super expensive and the hotel is very central so if you are there to sight see and not relax in the room the price for the area is good.

For what you get, the hotel is pretty expensive (although given that it is Venice, it could be considered reasonably priced). We had a double room with no bathroom, and the room fell a little short of what was indicated in the photos on the website of a double room without bathroom (room very basic and pretty old-fashioned, walls looked like they needed painted and a bit of damp in the ceiling). However, as a place only to rest your head, it was sufficient. The room was a little bit noisy thanks to a restaurant across the courtyard, but this wasn't an issue. Any concerns over sharing bathrooms were unfounded, they were clean and in good condition. Given the price of the room, it would have been nice to have some breakfast included. The hotel is in an excellent location for exploring Venice and is within easy walking distance of the main sights, as well as the water buses.

This hotel was fantastic all round but basic. Location was perfectly placed between St. Marks and the Rialto. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was good size and clean,(we stayed in no. 1) the shared bathrooms were very clean also. We couldn't faultthis place however the rooms do not look like the photographs on the web site. Expect BASIC CLEAN ACCOMMODATION IN A GREAT LOCATION then you'll be very happy.

The directions from the ferry were quite good (but they didn't mention to take the bridge on the right that goes up, not the other one on the left). The room itself was quite spacious and clean, not very modern but "quaint". We opted for the shared bathroom to save EUR30 per night and they were right across the hall. One of the showers was leaking, which made for a very wet experience each morning. But they were kept clean, so it wasn't too bad. Also, the photos on the Venere site were pretty accurate in appearance. The hotel was in a great location, straight outside the hotel was a pizzeria, gelateria and a wine shop. What more could you need! We also found a great little artist's shop a couple of doors down with some fantastic original artworks of traditional Venetian characters. San Marco was an easy 15-20 minute walk, as was the Rialto bridge and the ferry only a 5 minute walk. No one mentioned breakfast at all, and when we checked again to find it was only EUR5 we wished we'd known about it. Also, there wasn't any wi-fi or internet access. But there are internet points around.

We were expecting worse for 1 star but got much more better than expected. The room #10 costed 110 euros per night (the lowest price indicated in internet was 95 euros). We were kindly surprised very much by the ambience of the hotel. It is typically old venetian style with a great spirit - photos in the internet do not convey this natural atmosphere. Just perfect location, easy to find. The staff is very friendly. Room was cleaned and towels were changed every day. The shower cabin was tiny, about 70x100 cm. But we found bidet in a bathroom! Everybody in internet highly praised breakfast. I can tell that it is really unappetizing. There were 2 types of very bad taste sausage slices, cheese, croissant, diat bred, cakes, cornflakes and so on, but everything was of low quality and not tasty. So we decided to have next 3 breakfasts in town. By the way - the very best coffee (espresso) in Venice you may find just a few steps from San Maurizio at "le Cafe" (Campo S. Stefano).

I think, my evaluation would have been much better, if it hadn' been SO LOUD during my stay there. I literally DIDN'T sleep three nights in a row! outside some street works, around parties (?) all night long, music, screams... The people at the reception were quite nice, the breakfast lady was very nice. But the bathrooms were in a really bad condition. Really bad one... But well... the surroundings were nice. And it was cheap.

This is the first place we came across where the directions on line actually made sense. The location is beautiful and near the centre. Unfortunately we didn't have one hot or even warm shower the entire 3 nights we stayed there. It was hard to sleep with the noise. The air conditioning was quite ancient and could not be adjusted which made our room very uncomfortable. Finally we found the staff quite rude and unhelpful.

Glorious feather pillows, authentic Venician tiling, a wonderfully spacious room (no.3) with terrace, unbeatable location near the Giglio Vaporetto stop, and an unmissable buffet breakfast (€5, which is what it'll cost you for a cola if you eat out). The fact that the night porter didn't speak any of the languages I speak just added to the rich authenticity that this hotel has. In a city that is largely built on tourism, it is the glimpses of authenticity that we look for.

When I arrived the woman behind the desk told me that the price I'd been quoted was wrong, and that employee had been fired. Later in the day I returned and a different woman behind the desk told me actually it was a computer mistake and she'd like me to pay the extra 49 euro. I tried to reason with her, as the low price was why I'd chosen the hotel, and it ended with her shouting "I can see it is useless talking to you! You do not want to understand!" They're charging too much for the place as it is.

This hotel was crumbly, but had character. The location of the hotel was excellent - it was near everything we wanted to see in Venice. However, the hotel itself was old, and not very well maintained. Our room was definitely in need of a thorough cleaning and updating. The walls were cracked and dirty and the floor was a dusty crackly laminate. While it wasn't clean, for a person with a sense of humor, it wasn't disgusting. Our room was particularly spacious and had the added benefit of a cute little balcony overlooking a nearby square. We also had a sink in our room, which was nice. The shared bathroom facilities left quite a bit to be desired. Though there were three bathrooms for the whole floor, each bathroom had a unique problem. The first bathroom had a leaky shower, which meant that the floor was always a soggy puddle of water. The second bathroom was fine, except that the door to what I think was a shower was stuck shut. Plus, the door to the bathroom itself didn't shut so well, either. The third bathroom was fine, but only had a bathtub - no shower. This was the one we used. Overall, this hotel had character. For travellers who are flexible, have a sense of humor, and have low expectations, it's a fine choice. Especially considering the notoriously overpriced Venice market, I consider this hotel a decent value for the money. Just know what you're getting into - these certainly aren't classy digs.

Hotel Malo y CARO.

Came to Venice 1st time and knew, that this will be a expensive place. The hotelroom was small, but clean. Everyday fresh towels and a little cleanup. The halleay-bathroom was OK, but after 8 or 10 people taking a shower... well. Normally I wouldn´t pay that much for a little room like that without bathroom, but thats Venice during summertime... Overall, nice employees, very good location (in the heart of Venice) und for "just" sleeping good enough.

Hotel San Maurizio was is a good location in Venice - 10 minutes was from San Marco and 5 minutes away from a "water bus" stop. We were very displeased with our stay at this hotel. The photos on the site DO NOT correspond with the room we were given (not even close!). The quality of the room was very poor and maintenance on the property was neglected. Our room was missing light bulbs, our window shutters did not close and the safe was not even bolted down (so you could essentially walk away with the safe - seems counterintuitive). When we asked housekeeping staff and front desk staff to replace missing bulbs they were rude and dismissive. The housekeeping staff was extremely rude and disgruntled. We were not given fresh towels nor sheets. Some members of the front desk staff were friendly and helped us get important information about the city - however, this good service was not consistent across all staff members we encountered. Our room also faced a courtyard that was filled with old junk such as old newspapers and a bathtub that had been slowly filling with rain water and became a breeding ground for mosquitoes, which consequently flew into our room (we had to open windows because it was so warm). I am not usually one to complain, but we were really unhappy with our stay at this hotel and would not recommend other travelers to stay at Hotel San Maurizio. We paid 150E per night and felt like it was a high price for the terrible service and room quality.

Given the fact that you have to sell a family member in the black market in order to pay a hotel stay in Venice (it´s absolutely expensive) this is one of the cheapest posibilities you have if what you want is to sleep downtown. Of course you have better prices, but theses are not so well located. Having that in the mind, and without being extremely exigent, the hotel is acceptable.

Great price for great location in Venice. Staff spoke good english and were very friendly. Our room was cleaned every day and we were given fresh towels daily. My only complaint is that our room window was right on the main street which is very noisy at night. We were so exhausted from travelling that the noise didn't bother us at all. The walls are also paper thin, but luckily we did not have noisy neighbors. If you are a light sleeper then I would suggest being particular about which room you reserve.

The hotel was only "ok". I usually choose a pension with a shared bathroom to save money.(I'm on a strict budget), but this hotel's bathroom was a disgrace! it was overflooded, and dirty. I couldn't take a shower because it was digusting! I used the bathroom at the restaurant outside because the hotel's bathroom was not cleaned the 2 days we stayed there! The location of the hotel was good, and although the room was small (which is ok, because it was cheap), it was still very dirty. if it had at least been clean, i would have given it a better rating! I stay in alot of pensions, and this one was by far the worst.

Nice location for this hotel, and competent employees. Everything was great, above my expectations of a one star pension. The shared bathrooms were large and clean. 2 "bad" points only: just a fan, no AC, so might be a bit warm during summer season; and thus we slept only 2 nights i was surprised that the romm had not been cleaned on the second day (a mistake?).

The staff were extremely helpful and welcoming this was an excellent clean and well furbished property very close to St Marks Square and the Rialto Bridge with a very close Vaporetto stop It was also very close to an American Express outlet where they do not charge commission on their Travellers Cheques I would highly recommend this hotel which was an excellent value venue

the beds were very squeaky which really was the only problem and not really a big one at that. we were looking for a cheap place to stay in venice and we found it. we really weren't expecting a luxurious place but there was a room with a lock and a bed. satisfied!

The hotel was not equipped with air-conditioning and thus you may wish to think twice staying there during hot summer. The staff are nice and their English standard is fine when compared with other venice citizens.

I do recommend this small hotel. Location is quite good, close the academida bridge and not far from San Marco square. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Welcoming personnel.

Staff extremely helpful and gracious. Updated our room at no extra cost because they had a vacancy. We had lost luggage, and they called he airlines several times to help us. Excellent room and location for the money!

The Hotel location is good. The room is very small, I take it as this is part of Venice experence. If the location is indicated on map, it will help to find it.

I stayed in the double room without private bathroom for two nights. Bed was the only facility in the room actaully, which you should be very careful in looking at the pictures published on the website. And everything in the room or the public bathroom is not in good condition. The location is not too bed. The staff at the front desk was warm-hearted when we arrived but the service is not good enough (the POS machine did not work when we checked out and we had to get cash from ATM several hundread meters away to pay them).

Our room had this weird leak in the floor that just kept growing and growing until we left. The shared bathrooms were fairly decrepit and while my girlfriend braved the shower, I didn't want to set foot in there. To be fair, they are doing alot of work on the hotel, but presently it's kind of in this bizzare in-between status. It has an amazing breakfast room (5 extra euros per person per day for the buffet) and has a perfect location. The staff is really friendly and helpful. Still wondering why our beds were made but the large puddle on the floor was never regarded...

The hotel room is very gloomy in need to desperate renovations. The only clean thing in the room was the bed sheets which was important. The floor had dust and sand everywhere. I don't know why they dont mop it since you pay good money for the room? There were no towels provided so I asked reception and they said they dont have any so I ended up using my bedsheet to dry myself. Very sad indeed. The only good thing about this place is its location. It's REALLY easy to find. It's 5 min walk to Piazza San Marco and 2 mins from the Ferry stop. I would say this place is a 1-2 star rating.

The sink in our room was leaking and the shared bathrooms were awful. But the location was great, and it was a nice safe area, staff were really nice as well.

I'm guessing that the photos come from a room with bathroom. We took the cheapie option of shared bathroom and were essentially staying in a monastic cell with a broken window overlooking something that might only charitably be called a courtyard. Two shared bathrooms were available on our floor - also very basic and invariably flooded to some degree! We did peer up the stairs to the floor above and that looked much plusher and far more like the photos provided. A decent location though and, given how overpriced Venice is in general, we felt we paid an acceptable price for a bed for the night. The room didn't have any stagnant canal smell, and the only noise came from the other guests.

Awful. It was inexpensive, yes, but not so much that it should have been the dump it was. The bidet in one bathroom was stopped up and full of water all three days we stayed, with NO attempt to fix it. The bathrooms were wet and smelly; the light fixture in the cabinet in the sink in our room was a set of bare wires without a light; the breakfast (which was NOT included, so we paid an estra E5 each for it) was poor and measley, and the room was dingy. I understand foregoing amenities for an inexpensive room, but this was beyond the pale. It felt like a Bowery flophouse!

The desk staff were VERY helpful, wonderful. My room was a tiny, walk-in closet, but had a window that overlooked the front entrance. The bed and sink very clean, but the floor filthy. The two baths on my floor were adequate and reasonably clean, but the walls were thin. Bring earplugs to sleep. But the hotel is <5 minutes walk from San Marco Piazza, Rialto Bridge and I alwasy felt safe. It is affordable--I paid more for a taxis to the airport! I've seen worse! I had much more trouble with Venere than this hotel.

Easy to find - great location. Hotel was very nice for the price we paid. Two of us got a room with 3 beds and a crib. Bathroom down the hall, but had a sink in the room. Balcony overlooking empty square. Very close to St. Marks, which is what we wanted.

i thought i was in i nursaary when the night shift employee told us when we should come back and start judging about what we eat and what we drink..it a shame for a touristic area to have such way of behavior..i think everyone is free to do whatever they feel like

We loved it-- it felt like home. The staff is very welcoming and caring. The breakfast room is very elegant and is open anytime as a place to bring your own dinner. It is located by the Accademia bridge and is in a very safe, fun area on the way to St. Mark's Square from the bridge. We would go again and would highly recommend it. Keep in mind that it is a ride away from the train station and be sure to ask for help because the square it is off of is small and pretty hard to find if you are just looking at a map and not talking to a native-- but not a problem. It takes about 15/20 minutes to get to it from the station.

This is the second time I stayed at Hotel San Maurizio. I did not know that October was high season in Venice so we ended up paying double the price that we paid last time (and got a room that was only half the size). Despite a bit of dirt/dust and a broken window, the hotel is VERY conviniently located and relatively "cheap" when compared to other accomodation around Piazza San Marco.

How to reach Hotel San Maurizio

By car
From the highway, follow the indications to Venezia centro and then Piazzale Roma or Tronchetto, where you can park your car. From Piazzale Roma, take ferry boat line 1 and get off at Santa Maria del Giglio. From Campo Santa Maria del Giglio, turn left and cross two bridges. After the second bridge you will reach Calle Zaguri, where the hotel is situated.

By train
From the Santa Lucia railway station, take ferry boat line 1 to Santa Maria del Giglio and follow the aforementioned indications.

By airplane
From Venezia-Marco Polo airport, take the Alilaguna shuttle to Piazza San Marco. From St. Mark's square, keep your left-hand side, enter Via XXII Marzo and follow it to the end until your reach Campo Santa Maria del Giglio. Turn left and cross two bridges. After the second bridge you will reach Calle Zaguri, where the hotel is situated.
