Hotel is in a great location surrounding by restaurants, gelaterias etc and is only approx 10 mins walk to St Marks square (if that). The staff are really lovely and helpful. Only problem was the size of the room. It was taken over by the double bed and there was barely any room to move around, let alone to open a suitcase. Also no breakfast included in the price which would have been nice. However, for a budget hotel in Venice, it was fine and in a great location in such a wonderful city!

I booked a room for 3 night but left after 1 since I was not able to sleep on the "mattress". The 3 beds in the room all had springs to sleep on. Truly unacceptable. The on site person the next morning offered to move us to another room however when I went I tried the mattress and immediately felt the springs. I paid for 3 nights and received nothing for it aside from a sore back. We moved the next day. I would not ever suggest anyone who is used to sleeping on a mattress stay at this "hotel".

Hotel San Maurizio is a great place to stay in Venezia ! It's really close to San Marco or Rialto, which gives the opportunity to visit everything easily ! Our room was really good and we truly loved the Venitian style ! If you want a nice hotel which is 5mn walk from San Marco and not out of price, let's go there ! We had a perfect journey in Venezia !

Very good location close to San Marco, Rialto, etc. Staff very kind and helpful, speaking french and english. The lobby and the room were very clean. Possibility to leave our luggage in a special room before ck in and after ck out. BUT our room, nbr 11, was terribly small, with a small window facing a wall. Very dark room, no space at all.

We rented a very small room with a very lumpy bed, that faced onto the public walkway - and that was the only problem with noise from partiers/walkers. Didn't see ppl at all, and there isn't really a lobby. Great location to walk everywhere, restaurants across street, and more down street. No air conditioning which would be problem in summer - it was alreay 30C when we were there. Venice is expensive and I think the room was good value. (just needs a new bed)

we stayed just for two nights at the hotel, but we really enjoyed our stay and I would definetely recommend the hotel to my friends, although at nights it was quite noisy and the view from the window..actually there was no view at all, just the neighbouring windows, but it didn't bother us a lot. the room we booked was small but cosy. the hotel is located in the very centre. it will take you 5 minutes to reach San Marco square. the staff was really friendly. the one thing I didn't like that they let us leave our luggage only until 3 p.m., though it wasn't said about any restrictions.

Great location easy to find from the vaporetto stop and really close to San Marco ! Our room was right on the street but it was not noisy at all :) Downsides are no air con , there was a fan but it turned off when the light was off which was annoying ! But you will want to spend as little time possible and more out and about.

We stayed 2 nights there and the Hotel is very strategically located between the Giglio and S. Marco ACTV stops. There is also a patisserie downstairs which serves very nice macarons, which we visited twice within the 2 nights there! The hotel room is spacious and clean. The shared bathrooms were surprisingly spacious and hygienic too. San Maurizio's staff were indeed very helpful and friendly. We will definitely return to San Maurizio again on our next visit to Venice.

The hotel was better than expected, clean, well maintained and decorated. The location was excellent and easy to find, the staff were friendly. The room was quite small but this was not a problem for me. I would recommend the hotel as an ideal base for exploring the city. As we were room only we ate out, I did find most of the restaurant staff very unfriendly, in one instance quite rude, the same as in Rome. This is obviously an Italian trite.

The hotel was in a really nice location in a zone full of nice shops and easy to access with the Vaporetto, and really close to St Marco's Square. The staff was always available and they all spoke english (though not the best, it was functional). There was no elevator, which is a flaw when you carry a 20kg bag, and to get breakfast you had to pay extra (and the price was high enough for the kind of hotel and the services). There was no WIFI connection, and you have to pay to get internet. The room walls were very thin and you will hear detailed conversations from your neighbours, the room smelled a bit moisty, but it was fine, the cleaning was really good and the room was big enough to move around. Nice overall experience but we'll go to a different place next time

The photographs viewed on the website (venere.com)in no way reflects that of the hotel. The reception appears spacious on the website photograph yet in reality it is tiny although adaquate for the state of the hotel. The website bedroom photographs look nothing like the room which we were placed in Nunber 7 which, was utterly disgusting. You have to enter the hotel from a golley strewn with rubbish which did not encourage our first encounter. Other than wash/sleep at the hotel for two nights we stayed away and spent no other time there.

The room was dingy and old. No natural light as it faced other building walls on all sides. Above a resturant so smelt. Bathrooms had water all over the floor all the time. The staff are fine. Venice is super expensive and the hotel is very central so if you are there to sight see and not relax in the room the price for the area is good.

For what you get, the hotel is pretty expensive (although given that it is Venice, it could be considered reasonably priced). We had a double room with no bathroom, and the room fell a little short of what was indicated in the photos on the website of a double room without bathroom (room very basic and pretty old-fashioned, walls looked like they needed painted and a bit of damp in the ceiling). However, as a place only to rest your head, it was sufficient. The room was a little bit noisy thanks to a restaurant across the courtyard, but this wasn't an issue. Any concerns over sharing bathrooms were unfounded, they were clean and in good condition. Given the price of the room, it would have been nice to have some breakfast included. The hotel is in an excellent location for exploring Venice and is within easy walking distance of the main sights, as well as the water buses.

We were expecting worse for 1 star but got much more better than expected. The room #10 costed 110 euros per night (the lowest price indicated in internet was 95 euros). We were kindly surprised very much by the ambience of the hotel. It is typically old venetian style with a great spirit - photos in the internet do not convey this natural atmosphere. Just perfect location, easy to find. The staff is very friendly. Room was cleaned and towels were changed every day. The shower cabin was tiny, about 70x100 cm. But we found bidet in a bathroom! Everybody in internet highly praised breakfast. I can tell that it is really unappetizing. There were 2 types of very bad taste sausage slices, cheese, croissant, diat bred, cakes, cornflakes and so on, but everything was of low quality and not tasty. So we decided to have next 3 breakfasts in town. By the way - the very best coffee (espresso) in Venice you may find just a few steps from San Maurizio at "le Cafe" (Campo S. Stefano).

The directions from the ferry were quite good (but they didn't mention to take the bridge on the right that goes up, not the other one on the left). The room itself was quite spacious and clean, not very modern but "quaint". We opted for the shared bathroom to save EUR30 per night and they were right across the hall. One of the showers was leaking, which made for a very wet experience each morning. But they were kept clean, so it wasn't too bad. Also, the photos on the Venere site were pretty accurate in appearance. The hotel was in a great location, straight outside the hotel was a pizzeria, gelateria and a wine shop. What more could you need! We also found a great little artist's shop a couple of doors down with some fantastic original artworks of traditional Venetian characters. San Marco was an easy 15-20 minute walk, as was the Rialto bridge and the ferry only a 5 minute walk. No one mentioned breakfast at all, and when we checked again to find it was only EUR5 we wished we'd known about it. Also, there wasn't any wi-fi or internet access. But there are internet points around.

I think, my evaluation would have been much better, if it hadn' been SO LOUD during my stay there. I literally DIDN'T sleep three nights in a row! outside some street works, around parties (?) all night long, music, screams... Glorious feather pillows, authentic Venician tiling, a wonderfully spacious room (no.3) with terrace, unbeatable location near the Giglio Vaporetto stop, and an unmissable buffet breakfast (€5, which is what it'll cost you for a cola if you eat out). The fact that the night porter didn't speak any of the languages I speak just added to the rich authenticity that this hotel has. In a city that is largely built on tourism, it is the glimpses of authenticity that we look for.

This hotel was crumbly, but had character. The location of the hotel was excellent - it was near everything we wanted to see in Venice. However, the hotel itself was old, and not very well maintained. Our room was definitely in need of a thorough cleaning and updating. The walls were cracked and dirty and the floor was a dusty crackly laminate. While it wasn't clean, for a person with a sense of humor, it wasn't disgusting. Our room was particularly spacious and had the added benefit of a cute little balcony overlooking a nearby square. We also had a sink in our room, which was nice. The shared bathroom facilities left quite a bit to be desired. Though there were three bathrooms for the whole floor, each bathroom had a unique problem. The first bathroom had a leaky shower, which meant that the floor was always a soggy puddle of water. The second bathroom was fine, except that the door to what I think was a shower was stuck shut. Plus, the door to the bathroom itself didn't shut so well, either. The third bathroom was fine, but only had a bathtub - no shower. This was the one we used. Overall, this hotel had character. For travellers who are flexible, have a sense of humor, and have low expectations, it's a fine choice. Especially considering the notoriously overpriced Venice market, I consider this hotel a decent value for the money. Just know what you're getting into - these certainly aren't classy digs.

When I arrived the woman behind the desk told me that the price I'd been quoted was wrong, and that employee had been fired. Later in the day I returned and a different woman behind the desk told me actually it was a computer mistake and she'd like me to pay the extra 49 euro. I tried to reason with her, as the low price was why I'd chosen the hotel, and it ended with her shouting "I can see it is useless talking to you! You do not want to understand!" They're charging too much for the place as it is.

The halleay-bathroom was OK, but after 8 or 10 people taking a shower... well. Normally I wouldn´t pay that much for a little room like that without bathroom, but thats Venice during summertime... The photos on the site DO NOT correspond with the room we were given (not even close!). The quality of the room was very poor and maintenance on the property was neglected. Our room was missing light bulbs, our window shutters did not close and the safe was not even bolted down (so you could essentially walk away with the safe - seems counterintuitive). When we asked housekeeping staff and front desk staff to replace missing bulbs they were rude and dismissive. The housekeeping staff was extremely rude and disgruntled. We were not given fresh towels nor sheets. Some members of the front desk staff were friendly and helped us get important information about the city - however, this good service was not consistent across all staff members we encountered. Our room also faced a courtyard that was filled with old junk such as old newspapers and a bathtub that had been slowly filling with rain water and became a breeding ground for mosquitoes, which consequently flew into our room (we had to open windows because it was so warm). I am not usually one to complain, but we were really unhappy with our stay at this hotel and would not recommend other travelers to stay at Hotel San Maurizio. We paid 150E per night and felt like it was a high price for the terrible service and room quality.

The hotel room did not look anything like the picture. I believe only the higher priced rooms look like the picture on the web. Location is very good but it is noisy from all the people out on the street until 1am. There are alot of stairs and no lift. Difficult with more than one luggage. Susie USA

My boyfriend and i spent 2 nights here, we had room number 2 (shared bathroom) and it was spacious and pretty much perfect. 3 fully fitted bathrooms for 7 bedrooms so never saw anyone else i was sharing with. Always clean. Perfectly situated so close to everything and the staff were very friendly and helpful. i highly highly recommend this place (and room number 2 if possible!). Would definitely stay here again.

The hotel is conveniently close to St Mark's and the welcome and breakfast were good, but there was no romm available with a bathroom or shower. We awoke at 4pm to hear someone having a very long shower and when we tried to have one at 8.30pm the room was flooded and the water cold, both days we were there.

Small room, but confortable for sleeping. The neighborhood is a little bit noisy. No breakfast. There is no elevator and the stairs are narrow. The receptionists were kind.

Given the fact that you have to sell a family member in the black market in order to pay a hotel stay in Venice (it´s absolutely expensive) this is one of the cheapest posibilities you have if what you want is to sleep downtown. Of course you have better prices, but theses are not so well located. Having that in the mind, and without being extremely exigent, the hotel is acceptable.

Great price for great location in Venice. Staff spoke good english and were very friendly. Our room was cleaned every day and we were given fresh towels daily. My only complaint is that our room window was right on the main street which is very noisy at night. We were so exhausted from travelling that the noise didn't bother us at all. The walls are also paper thin, but luckily we did not have noisy neighbors. If you are a light sleeper then I would suggest being particular about which room you reserve.

Very well situated, withing ten minutes walk of Rialto, San Marco, Accademia and Dorsoduro. Characterful area, with local shops and bars. Hotel quiet, welcoming and very warm in the bitterly cold January weather. Staff friendly and helpful, breakfast good (a worthwhile extra), room slightly dilapidated (blocked sink and no mirror), beds comfortable, bathrooms (across the hallway) modern and clean.

The hotel was only "ok". I usually choose a pension with a shared bathroom to save money.(I'm on a strict budget), but this hotel's bathroom was a disgrace! it was overflooded, and dirty. I couldn't take a shower because it was digusting! I used the bathroom at the restaurant outside because the hotel's bathroom was not cleaned the 2 days we stayed there! The location of the hotel was good, and although the room was small (which is ok, because it was cheap), it was still very dirty. if it had at least been clean, i would have given it a better rating! I stay in alot of pensions, and this one was by far the worst.

rapporto qualità prezzo scarso; forse dovuto alla festività del 8/12/07. Problemi per i turni del personale la sera del 7/12. Rischiavo di dover rientrare alle 23,30/00,00 per problemi di turnazione.

Nice location for this hotel, and competent employees. Everything was great, above my expectations of a one star pension. The old lady at the reception even managed to find shuttle schedule for us and to print it. The shared bathrooms were large and clean. 2 "bad" points only: just a fan, no AC, so might be a bit warm during summer season; and thus we slept only 2 nights i was surprised that the romm had not been cleaned on the second day (a mistake?).

This is a lovely little hotel. The room matched the photos on the website perfectly, they were very nicely decorated, clean, modern, if a little small, but that is to be expected in Venice. The breakfast was nice. It is very good for the price and is in an excellent location, close to all the main sights. We were not disappointed at all. I'd recommend Vino Vino as a good reasonably priced restaurant to eat at close by!

we were very dissapointed when we arrived we were given a room approx the size of a prison cell with less welcoming than a prison cell as prison cells have toilet facilities, when we booked room your options we room with or without bath in uk, we would have expected shower facilities instead of bath as well as toilet facilities in room, and not shared facilities, we did not bring with us sutable night clothing, so we had to upgrade our room at a cost of 60 euros which we had not budgeted for,we booked through search engine travelsupermarket.com we have contacted them to rectify web site it showed that we could also us swimming pool facilities, venice and venetian people was a wonderful experience, unfortunately our hotel was not we will not recomend this hotel

Lavandino interno ridicolo. Bagno comune pulito. Collocazione ottima. Sconsigliato!

This hotel is basic, but in a perfect location for first-time visitors to Venice like ourselves. The map made it easy to find from the vaporetto, and there was a great trattoria just a couple of doors away that we would warmly recommend for evening meals - opening at 6.30pm for dinner and very quickly filling up, with a queue waiting every night. Hotel staff lovely, all speak some English, & we'd be happy to stay there again.

Recomiendo IL Trovatore.
