One of the better hotels I've stayed in for this price. The room is large for a double, for Europe anyway! The bathroom in our room was a slice of heaven with the big tub and heating, nicest towels in our travels so far. Couldn't expect more at this price which is perfect for value. Location is perfect. When finding the hotel just read the street numbers and use a map :) I wish they'd give the entryway a good scrub to give a better initial impression but the hotel itself is nice enough. Excellent Location. Welcoming and apparently only person at reception Vito was extremely nice and helpful. The room was small and runned down; looked deteriorated as did most of the hotel. Breakfast was nice on the terrace.

We only stayed here one night, but found it to be comfortable. We had a quad with 2 young kids. Very spacious room, bathroom nicely updated (typical small size for Europe). Bathroom had basics supplied like hairdryer, cups, soap, shampoo. The luggage room isn't a room, just a corner of the lobby, so if security is a primary concern you may not want to leave your luggage there after checking out. Location was not far from San Marco, so that worked well for us as we only were there one day. Get a detailed street map before trying to navigate your way to the hotel or get ready to get lost (that's just the way Venice is, a few wrong turns should be expected).

Family of four, quadruple room. Stayed for one night only, and met every need we had for this purpose. Air conditioning was very welcome since the outside temperature was very high. They also very kindly let us store our luggage past our check-out time so that we could enjoy the city until late afternoon without dragging our luggage around. Breakfast was not luxurious but quite ok.

Do not go for the complementary trip to murano offered by the hotel as it consists of being shipped over by taxi, then rushed into a glass factory where they try to sell you their production and are then abandoned outside without any indication that the only way back is for you to go by bus (yourself paying for it of course)

I would definitely recommend this hotel, it had a fantastic location, just around the corner from San Marco's. The staff were fantastic, really friendly and helpful. The room was excellent value, it cost me more to stay in a bug infested hostel in Amsterdam! I would recommend booking in advance though, while we were there people did come in asking for rooms but the hotel was already full.

This is our first visit to Venice. The location is of your Hotel was perfect for us. The staff was helpful in directing us and letting us know about a private boat ride to Murano. We enjoyed seeing how murano glass is made. Thank you so much for being so friendly. We travelled to several places and this was our last stay and I must say your employees were the most helpful.

The location was very convienent to St Marks Square and the breakfast was nice. The room had a nice working air condition which made sleeping very comfortable and the main bed was comfortable. Unfortunately the toilette was extremely small for 4 people and the bathtub was dangerous as it was extreme small and had a sit down/step that made it very hard to move around and I almost slipped a few times. The room was a non smoking room but the minute you walked into the hallway you could smell cigaretts, very displeasing. I think the most disstatisfing part was the price of the room in comparison to my brothers accomodations. My brothers accomodations were as convenient as ours in relation to St. Marks Sqaure but he was able to get an apartment with 2 bedrooms, toilet, kitchen and living area for only 140 euro per night which would of slept 6 to 7 as compared to our 1 room for 209 euro.

Good location genuinely less than 50 meters from plaza san marco and still quite quiet. Good price/value ratio at least for Venice hotel prices. Not much of a view and a bit tight, but when you go to Venice you only stay in the room for sleeping anyway.

This was a fantastic discovery. It is so close to the Piazza and yet very quiet and extremely comfortable. It was easy to find with the map and was a real hightlight of our trip. It offered excellent value, with a very decent breakfast. There was abit of confusion on the site as to price, but persistence got a room for four for 140 Euro. The stairs could be an issue for some and outward appearances may cause concern, but it is worth it.

The positives remarks are the situation of the hotel (very closed to Piazza San Marcos) and the quietness and the cleanness of the room. But they need to improve the below points: our room had leaks and they didn't solved during our stay, only a towel in the ground. The staff were no so kind as the previous comments said. And the internet corner was not free of charge.

We, 4 Aussie adults, spent 3 days in this captivating city. The hotel was in a superb location, esspecially considering the price, as hotels are not especially cheap in Venice. We found all the hotel staff to be extremely obliging and helpful. Whatever the question they were always willing to provide an answer, and if necessary use the internet to obtain timetables for trains etc. We will deffinately be staying here on our next visit to Venice. It is unfortunate that the restaurants in this city don't take a lesson from the staff at this hotel instead of dishing up inedible food to their customers, namely tourists. A big thank you to the staff at San Gallo for making our stay so much more enjoyable.

We booked two single rooms during the carnival. The rooms were small but adequate, and well-priced seeing that the hotel is so close to San Marco and given that it was peak season. My room looked out onto the campo (rm 1) but my friend's looked onto a brick wall (rm 5). Even from the top floof terrace there wasn't much of a view. However the staff were friendly and helpful and breakfast was fine. If you are looking for a reasonably-priced place in a really good location and aren't too worried about other factors, this is a really good bet.

Although we got lost trying to find the san gallo while lugging out suitcases through the sweltering heat, we finally did arrive at the hotel. unfortunately there were many stairs that had to be climbed to the first floor lobby. fortunately, an employee was entering the building at the same time and carried my luggage up for me. we were greeted by a friendly and very helpful staff. the room was charming, if not very large. the breakfast room out on the terrace was one of the few places durimg our 3 weeks in italy that served 'fresh' danish. when you are told about a free trip to, and tour of, the murano glass factory be aware that although transportation is provided to the place you are left to get back on your own. venice was the highlight of our 3 weeks in italy....i would definitely recommend this hotel. it is both convenient and pleasant.

The employees of San Gallo were very kind and helpful. The only real complaint I have is in regards to the size of the rooms. The rooms were tiny and very claustrophobic and dark. The beds were small, the bathroom was small, and there was hardly any room to put an open suitcase on the floor, let alone an open one. I shared the room with my sister and we were definitely not comfortable.

Hotel San Gallo did not disappoint me in any way. Only public space was very small; I did not see the terasse cafeteria mentioned; maybe it was closed, I do not know. But as an extra there was free internet service. The location of the hotel is very good, I recommend to everyone who wish to stay inside Venice city for a rather reasonable price. Breakfast was not bad but poor, it was that of a 2-star hotel. The room did not have any view, but I did not expect it to have; so that is no problem. Bathroom was very very small and the hot water did not run regularly, but I did not have time to report this to the hotel. The hotell staff was kind and helpful in general. Other than those I find the price/quality ratio too high as with all with Italy and Venice hotels. Italians seem to have exaggerated this Euro change too much. No other European EU/non-EU city is as expensive, Paris, Geneve, Barselona included. You have to spend like 250 euros a day for two for only moderate bed and meals. So I do not plan to travel to Italy in the near future.

We visited Venice during the busy Easter holidays with our 9 year old son, and stayed at hotel San Gallo for 3 nights. We came late in the evening, and got a friendly welcome. The room we got was in a quiet corner, and fullfilled our wishes. The receptionist gave us a map of the town without asking. The location of the hotel was fantastic: beside San Marco Square, but in a quiet alley. Breakfast was not extraordinary, but included everything one needs in the morning, and three different kinds of coffee. All the employees were friendly and helpfull, even though all of them couldn't speak English very well. When we left on Sunday morning, the man behind the desk ordered us a taxi-boat to the nearest canal, escorted us there AND CARRIED OUR LUGGAGE, and when he noticed that we are there too early, he phoned the taxi-driver to ask him to come as soon as possible. Which he did. We enjoyed our stay at the hotel, and the price was very moderate compared to many of the small hotels in that area. Our son even said that this hotel should be given five stars - and he has been in a five-star hotel!

Although the San Gallo was very pleasant, the stairs can be rather daunting. Also, I had trouble using my phone card on the phone in my room and no one seemed to have any answers about the problem or how to solve it. Still, it was good hotel in a good location.

I was disappointed to find that the room had only one window which looked out on to a brick wall 2 ft away, so it had no natural light and no view at all. We arrived at night and did not notice. I was a bit claustrophobic and although we were only in the room to sleep, I would not stay there again for this reason. However, apart from this, the location was excellent and the hotel was probably good value.

The room was rather small but the location in relation to San Marco's square was excellent! We just walked across a little bridge and we were at the corner of the square.
