A quiet and very comfortable hotel, with excellent dining (breakfast) facilities and courteous staff. Despite the fairly large number of guests, it managed to maintain a pleasingly relaxed and quiet ambience throughout my stay there.

Four star hotel....One star experience. Very disappoined with this property. There are many hotels in Venice....I would suggest staying somewhere else. We were there for a special anniversary and had a terrible experience. The noise (inside) was so loud we could not enjoy our visit. I went to get a cup of coffee after the terrible night sleep and the lady stopped me at the door to my room and said I could not take the coffee cups into the room. She made me give her the cup (full of coffee) back. After that I complained at the front desk. They were not very concerned with my complaints but did suggest that we could change rooms. After all our stuff was unpacked, and since we had an early flight the next morning....this would have been added inconvenience to an already disappointing visit. Save yourself the grief -- stay somewhere else!

All in all, we were very lucky - the room was better, more comfortable and more beautiful than we dreamed of.

Merci.

The hotel is a small very nice 4* hotel with some double bed rooms with Grand Canal view. All single rooms and some double bed rooms do not have Grand Canal view. A Grand Canal view doublebed room booking was EUR 100 more expensive then without the exciting view. My wife and me were there for 1 night and had a big airconditioned room on the 1. floor, new renovated with nice interior and romantic view on the Grand Canal. Bathroom is very small but clean. Breakfast is good with good variety. In the airconditioned breakfast area inside it is like in every other hotel - nothing special - but having breakfast on the balkony with Grand Canal view (only 2 tables, each for 2 persons) is exciting. Arrival with luggage from car parking to the hotel we had to pay for a water taxi 70 EUR to the hotel (booking in the car parking) and 50 EUR back from the hotel (booking at the hotel reception) to the car parking.

Nice well kept property on Canal Grande just a few bridges off Rialto. 'Land side' entrance at the end of many narrow alleyways, arrival by water taxi recommended. We had a nice triple with windows on Canal Grande. Good A/C very useful in the July heat. Very small bathroom.

This is a fabulous hotel. Located near the Rialto bridge, our room looked out over the grand canal, but was still quiet at night. The room was large by european standards. The staff was very helpful, especially the night manager who woke up at 4 am to make sure we got our water taxi on time. The breakfast room was airy and had an excellent view. There is an adorable veranda to enjoy an after dinner drink. I have stayed in Venice four times and this was by far the most enjoyable. I would definitely stay here again.

This hotel is just magnificent, specially if you get the room overseeing the main canal!! The rooms are spacious, decoration is great and the location is good as you can either walk 10mins to the Rialto bridge or take the vaporetto line 1 to other places in Venice. Breakfast (hot) was very good.

My family and I have had short stays at this hotel three years in a row. We like the location. We have stayed in rooms overlooking the grand canal and found it intriguing watching all the traffic going along it. The hotel is located in an old historical building and I feel this gives guests a sense of Venice too. Service is excellent. Hotel breakfasts are excellent too.

Very comfortable and nice hotel. Fantastic old fashioned 4-bed family room overlooking Canal Grande. Friendly staff both in reception and at breakfast.Wide variety of good quality foods for breakfast. Located a bit out of the most intense tourist track, but still in short walking distance of everything. This hotel saved our day during a very, very hot and humid summer trip!

Highly recommended!!! Wonderful hotel with wonderful staff, in a great location: close to the Rialto bridge but far enough away to be quiet at night. On the Grand Canal, some rooms with canal views. Close to Vaparetto. Plenty of places to eat, at varying prices, within a short walk. Delicious full-service breakfast in a sunny room overlooking the Grand Canal. The air-conditioning did not work in one of our rooms - and we were upgraded to a nicer, larger room with a canal view; big thanks to Giovanni and his colleagues. Throughout our stay the entire staff was helpful and friendly, as if we were friends not just clients. A friend who lives in Venice said that from now on he will recommend all his out-of-town guests stay at San Cassiano. It is that good.

This hotel is in the most amazing old building overlooking the Grand Canal. Although altered several times since first built, it retains the essential character of its origins whilst providing excellent accomodation. Inevitably, in a building of this age, there is no elevator and the stairs are steep. The staff, however, are magnificent and whisked heavy cases to our room without a problem. The staff at reception were also extremely helpful in advising on all aspects of where to go, what to see and, most importantly, precise and accurate details of how to get there. The breakfasrt room with its balcony overlooking the canal provides a stunning outlook to start the day while a digestif or nightcap at one of the intimate tables on the private landing stage ensure a similarly unique end. We had a most enjoyable stay.

The room was lovely and the window view of the Grand Canal made everything that bit more special. We also enjoyed sitting on the dining room's Balcony for breakfast on a couple of days to enjoy the view. The location and quality of the hotel helped make the weekend a most memorable and romantic one - highly recommended.

I carefully reviewed the comments from prior guests before booking. I decided to go for San Cassiano Ca' Favrett based on the uniformly positive feedback. I wasn't disappointed! Our room was wonderful! Our windows opened up directly onto the Grand Canal. Not a view you tire of. The room was spacious, painted Georgian red, nice local paintings, a flat screen TV, a minibar which was very reasonable (EURO 2.50 for a small Heineken) and a clean, functional bathroom. It was a bit noisy in the morning as we were 2 doors up from the kitchen but that's a minor quibble. Breakfast was as good as other reviewers had said. Good variety and plentiful. Not much hot stuff - token bacon, sausage, and scrambled egg, but the continental stuff was fine and self-service as much as you want. The breakfast room does tend to fill up ca. 9:30 but nothing too bad. There's 2 tables on the balcony overlooking the Grand Canal - definitely a memorable breakfast. Quite what the large red plastic penguin is doing on the balcony, I don't know. It was the only incongrous element of our stay. On our last day, we had an hour before we needed to go to the Airport, so we had a drink on the landing stage. Again, very nice. For general Venice advice, getting the 1, 2, or 3 day Vaperetto ticket is definitely worth it. Once you leave Piazzala Roma (sp?), there are no roads, so you'll be working or boating everywhere. It's a reasonably large town, and we walked, and walked, and walked, and took lots of boats too. We didn't try the Water Taxis (expensive) or the Gondolas (raining most of the time) but the Vaparettos (Water Buses) are frequent, good value, and go everywhere. To get to and from the Airport, just get the #5 bus. It's just EURO 2:50 each way. We made the mistake of getting a taxi from the airport when we arrived, but it cost EURO 35 and has to stop in Piazzala Roma which is exactly where the bus stops, so there was no advantage in taking a taxi.

Ease of reaching the property by water taxi a real plus. Free use of internet, full breakfast included in rate were other strong points, as were the extremely reasonable bar prices for cocktails. Staff very welcoming and gracious. Small balconies both down and upstairs provide a great spot to view the Grand Canal and watch the sun go down. Only negative was the a/c in the room did not seem to work very well while it seemed fine in the lobby. It is an old building so the bathrooms are not large and impressive, but very functional. If requesting a canal view, I'd recommend also asking for an uppper floor as we were on the first floor and the room was a tad musty. Overall I'd recommend this hotel for it location and charm. For the cost it cant be beat! The single room my daughter had was small but functional and had a large closet.

USA, May 2008
Excellent hotel for the price. Great location right on the canal. Wonderful breakfast. Very helpful and pleasant staff. And fairly easy to find - once you get close to the hotel, there are obvious signs for it. Only one slight negative - if you're on the 3rd floor, there are lots of steep steps, and it can get tiring. This was the first time I'd stayed at this hotel - I've stayed at others in Venice - and it was a great choice. I would certainly come back again.

From the moment we arrived the staff was wonderful and always very helpful. The breakfast was very good with nice variety. We had a waterbus pass obtained from ATVO, which I fully recommend to a visitor to Venice. There was a bus stop within a 5 minute walk. Once we obtained directions from the hotel staff, it was easy to find. The hotel is old, and the main stairway under repair, but has a wonderful old world charm. Our room was beautiful, very clean, and beds very comfortable. The staff made us feel always welcome at the end of our day of wandering around the city. They arranged a wonderful taxi and tour of a glass factory on Murano. I would definitely recommend San Cassiano for a stay while visiting Venice and plan to return one day.

You really need a detailed map to locate this hotel unless you take the watertaxi where you can dock at the hotel. We stayed in a triple room and the hotel was kind enough to give us the canal view. The room and bathroom were very spacious compared to other triple rooms in Italy. Very nice canal view. Rustic design and antique furniture. The breakfast was so good I had a second round. The hotel makes you feel like a million bucks and yet a one night's stay isn't that costly. Location is pretty good. 5 minutes from Rialto Market and 10 minute walk to the Santa Lucia train station. You can save $13 euros by not taking the ferry. Seems like they only check your tickets if you carry luggage otherwise you can ride the ferry for free. Remember need a very detailed map with street names otherwise you'll get lost in the lab-rat maze. Will definitely pick this hotel again if we revisit.

The San Cassiano is my first choice for staying in Venice for a number of reasons. The view from the breakfast room to the Ca d'Oro is unsurpassed. The area feels like the real Venice and is relatively free of tourists. There are any number of great places to eat within a short walk of the hotel. At the same time, you can get to any other part of Venice very easily, either on foot or by vaporetto. Having stayed in the hotel a number of times I feel as though I'm returning home - it's good to be greeted by familiar faces. At the same time, the staff are very professional and don't become too familiar with their guests. On the odd occasion when I've had to stay elsewhere, I have always felt I would rather be at the Ca' Favretto. Yes, the single rooms are a bit small but that is not unusual. I have no hesitation about recommending the hotel to friends.

We had a good room, spacious, but very small bathroom. The 2 windows opened out with good view of the Grand Canal. It did cost more being a "superior room with canal view". But when spending only a few days in Venice, why not? The breakfast room did not have enough space and tables when the hotel was full.

Excellent! The staff was very friendly and competent and did help with any question and request. The rooms are very! spacious (specially for Venice) and furnished with elegant furniture. It is absolutely great to have a drink on the little balcony on the floor directly on the Canale Grande. The highlight is to enjoy breakfast on the little balcony on the first floor (only two seats - so be early or you'll have to wait) and look on the awakening Venice on the canal. We will definitly stay there again. The hotel is relatively easy to find (again - specially for venice) because you simply have to head for the Canale Grande and there are also signs in the streets that point you to the hotel. It is comfortably located about 10 minutes walk to every major location like Rialto or Piazza San Marco. The price is a little higher than an average hotel would cost BUT you are in an elegant, beautifully located hotel which is worth the price!

We stayed here in Sept 2007 to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. It was perfect so much so we have already booked for next year!! The staff are great very helpful and friendly. The complimentary trip to the Glass works was an unexpected pleasure, the room (104) was perfect. The bed is comfortable and the room spacious. The breakfasts are good and the coffee must be the best in Venice (especially with a brandy!!)We were sad to leave but happy in knowing we will be going back next year. It is in a lovely part of Venice close to wonderful fish restaurants and all the main attractions withinn walking distance. We did'nt get lost but did arrive in a water taxi which we would both reccomend!! A truly wonderful small hotel. The only thing which would have been appreciated would be a hotel restaurant as after a busy 2 days walking around Venice the last night would have been nice eating at the Hotel. However, this has not put us off returning and we are looking forward to it already!!!

Enjoyed the hotel very much. The room was a bit small but adequate and in line with what you can expect for Venice. Also, liked the location which was a bit removed from all the crowds. Would come back.

My family and I have stayed at San Cassiano Ca' Favretto the last two years. My parents had a room overlooking the Grand Canal. Excellent hotel with a truly Venetian feel.

Having visited the San Cassiano when friends stayed there I knew how good it was and it lived up to my expectations. For the first night I had a room at the rear over the entrance and in future would ask for that again and forgo the noise of the Grand Canal which cannot be avoided if you are closer to it and have the windows open. The staff are excellent and very helpful, and the breakfast very good. I knew from experience how to find the San Cassiano and there are some signs which are helpful but one could have problems without a good map(Berndston & Berndston is the best I have found). In all the San Cassiano provides very good service in a wonderful location and is excellent value for money, I will certainly try to stay there in furure.

I found the hotel at the venere internet page and it looked interesting for me. The rooms were excellent, the hotel is very nice and deserves 5 stars. The only negative thing was the noise in the morning, because they were building a new house or something at the other side of the Canale Grande.

A lovely hotel, full of character, tastefully furnished, comfortable (extra pillows and blankets in wardrobe, no need to ask). Great little bar with small balcony on which you can sit and sip your Prosecco while overlooking the Grand Canal. Traditional walled Italian garden at entrance. The staff are efficient, helpful and friendly. The photographs and the description given on the site could make more of this hotel - the bar balcony and the garden? We go to Venice 2 /3 times per year for about 3 days each time. We will definitely return to San Cassiano.

For the single traveller, it's very difficult to find spacious hotel accommodation in Venice. Single rooms are invariably tiny, and things were no different at Ca'Favretto though my room (106)and its facilities were fine. Having said that, this is a nice hotel in a fabulous location on the Grand Canal where it's possible to sit on the small ground floor jetty with a drink and enjoy one of the most extraordinary views in the world. I went out of season - in January - and would definitely consider staying here again.

This was a great location. We arrived and departed by water taxi (warning! 45-80 Euros from train station), but otherwise took advantage of the nearby Rialto and St.Stae vaporetto stops. Lovely canals in the area, much more residential - found a number of good restaurants just by wandering aimlessly in just about any direction. Breakfast each day was eggs, sausage, bacon, prosciutto, cheeses, canned fruit, and cereal -- arriving at 7:30 guaranteed you a table on the balcony overlooking the Grand Canal, and then out into Venice before the worst of the people traffic set in. We had a side-view canal (first come first served), which was a little loud when boats motored through at all hours of day and night, but otherwise nice to hear the water. Another nice view for a non-canalview room would be of the private courtyard. Note to multi-day travelers: clothes don't dry fast, and the chambermaids close the windows & drapes and turn the A/C way down when they leave, so if you don't like cold, let them know to not touch the A/C!

Venice hotels are expensive, no doubt about it. We booked 4 rooms, all were in excellent condition and large, one had a block-buster view of the Grand Canal. One certainly is able to get the feeling of what the grand trade houses of the Republic were like. The breakfast room over looking the canal was a treat, the seating on the balcony was out of a movie (on nice days). Arriving by water taxi at the water door was a wonderful way to start our Italy trip, and painless.

Superbe hotel.

A very pleasant noble home on the Canal Grande. Off the tourist areas but close enough to a vaporetto stop and to Rialto. If you can, avoid the second floor as this is where the breakfast room is located with the attending noises from 7am onwards. When we mentioned that, we were offered another room, which we finally declined. Instead, we used the familiar noises as a wake-up call to start our visiting day bright and early, which is highly recommended in Fall in Venice. Last but not least, using Venere got us very reasonable prices in the hotel.

I had booked two rooms with a Grand Canal view. I chose the hotel on the basis of other customer reviews, and because the rates seemed good compared to other hotels with Canal views. I was totally satisfied at this hotel...the rooms were spacious and pleasant, the views were great, and the hotel staff was just wonderful. It isn't the plushest place in the world but it is really nice and the Staff made it feel homey. I would definitely stay there again.

In most respects, a perfect hotel. Brilliantly situated on the Grand Canal itself, with its own landing stage. Inside, a beautiful palazzo. Highlights were drinks on the little landing stage, watching the Canal traffic go by, and the superb breakfast. Ca Favretto is well situated - only a few minutes walk to the Rialto, and to San Stae vaporetto stop. There were only two problems: unless you were prepared to pay 50 Euros to travel the couple of hundred yards from the station by water taxi (85 Euros to the airport), it meant humping suitcases up and down three sets of stairs. But the biggest headache (literally) was the noise. The Grand Canal look and is romantic. But it's also like trying to sleep in the middle of a freeway. The constant noise all through the night of heavy diesel engines, some of them revving up beneath your window, makes it very difficult to sleep. Clsoing the windw reduces the noise, but makes the heat insufferable, even in October. There was no air conditioning. So we emerged exahusted but happy!

The hotel was great. Located right on the Grand Canal. After we arrived we realized we needed to extend our stay an extra night. The staff was very accomodating and made all the arrangements. It was very nice in the mornings to eat breakfast on a balcony overlooking the Grand Canal. If I had one complaint it would be that the hotel itself is situated quite a way from the nearest vaparetto stop. This ordinarily would not have been a problem except that we found it very easy to lose our way in Venice and this happened a few times when we tried to find the hotel.

It is no so easy arrive there, but it is very close to the Rialto. The map that give the hotel is very good One thing that I think that they have to say clear is that the service that offer to go to Murano is specificly go to a factory in Murano, so it was not nice have to arrive a factory where I didnt have wishes to buy.

For this price, the room was a little bit small. Last time - where I booked in the hotel directly - I had a much better room for lower costs. Insteed its´a nice charming place. Marina Gross, with friendly regards

Our stay from arrival to departure was excellent - the hotel staff were welcoming and very informative. Our room looking over the Grand Canal was superb and spacious(bathroom a bit on the pokey side) It was lovely to wake up to the hustle and bustle of the locals on the river going about their daily life Be sure to be at breakfast well before 10am as they do clear up sharpish !

We could not fault this hotel. Although when we arrived the triple room had not been split into single beds, as requested - this was done in a matter of minutes. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel itself is in an excellent location (although a tad difficult to find initially). The best breakfast I've had in Italy. All in all a little gem!

We had some minor difficutly locating the hotel. I wish the hotel would have suggested that the water taxi would be the quickest and probably the easiest way to reach the hotel; especially with a lot of luggage. The hotel had no elevators, so upon check-out we had to carry our luggage down 3 flights of stairs. The worse part of our stay happened to be in the middle of the night. A cold front had blown in during the night and the shutters on our 3 windows starting banging really loud and scared us awake. My husband had to get partially dressed and go out into the hall to try and find the cause of all the tremendous noise. I think that since we returned from our dinner out very late, the hotel had time to prepare the room for the evening, especially fasten or close all the shutters. Also, we were very cold and had no blankets on any of the beds, only a light bed covering and sheet. We would not stay here again.

Excellent position. Quiet but good views over the Garand Canal. Advise approaching by water taxi to begin with as this displays hotel at its very best.

I have been to Venise a few times I have to stay this is the best hotel I have stayed in. Staying in a former Palazzo just makes Venise feel perfect. We were a group of 3 and had a room on the courtyard, even so it was a great room. Breakfast was correct, I especially enjoyed eating breakfast on the canal ( be early for a table overlooking the canal), it was a treat to have a drink on the canal in the afternoon. The staff were really great except for the night clerk, he was not to warm on our arrival but I do forgive him as he had to lift a huge suitcase up 3 floors (this hotel has no elevators, hard to get up 3 floors after one of those huge Italian meals). I would recommend this hotel to anyone, alittle out of the way which makes it a quiet refuge in the middle of all us tourists.

This was a great hotel for the price. If you want a bigger room at a low price on the Grand Canal, I doubt you will find it. But this hotel has great small rooms in a great location. It was a bit noisy at night, so I recommend earplug. They also seem to have a personnel shortage because at the night the desk man is also the bartender. The night desk man was also not very helpful when we called to tell him our shower was broken. He came up to the room and first accused us of breaking it and never sent someone to fix it. Luckily, we were still able to use the shower, but it was quite inconvenient. Breakfast was so so. Not bad, not great. I would stay here again, but would probably upgrade to a superior room with a view.
