The hotel is beautiful and right on the Grand Canal! We were very satisfied with the service. One needs a really good map of Venice to navigate the narrow alleys and streets in this area. Also, this place is not handicap accessible. Lots of stairs to get to your room.

This hotels only redeeming feature was it was on the grand canal. I booked a family room which was too small . Breakfast was. Far too busy room too small people were eating int the lobby on 2nd floor. Bar service was awful bar man asked me to get my own drinks from the chiller, staff were invisble only saw the receptionist. No tea or coffee in the room only mini bar for £250 euro per night I expected so much more character from the room and the staff.

A pleasant stay in an excellent location. slightly surprised by the 51 stairs to our 3rd floor room - would have liked to have known about this beforehand. Also surprised by the chaotic crush in the salon for breakfast and the fact that some food ran out. We have been to Venice before.

We went to San Cassiano a number of years ago, always intended to return, and finally managed to do so. The approach to the hotel is through typical winding Venetian lanes, but is well signposted, and its breakfast room and bar are right on the Grand Canal. Great atmosphere, comfortable rooms, good service, and close to a water bus stop, San Stae. If you want a relaxing stay in Venice close to St Mark's, the Rialto, eating places and shops, this hotel is a good choice.

Lovely characterful hotel situated on the Grand canal, in a quite area of Venice near the market and Rialto Bridge. Good restaurants local to the hotel staff friendly, helpful and knowledable. Rooms spotless, breakfast good. It was a little diffucult to find but was worth it, would definitely go again.

I was very dissapointed at this hotel. I do not consider this hotel to be 4 stars. The rooms are very small, the bed mattresses are old and uncomfortable. The rooms are not maintained, with scratches on the furniture, bad paint, etc. overall the rooms were very poor. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking to stay at a 4 star hotel.

This is a beautiful and very old hotel. We were given one of the best, if not the very best room of the hotel so we had a very nice time there. The only thing that would make it a 10 would be free wifi.

The Grande-Canale views from the breakfast room and the Cafe downstairs are excellent. The arrangement in the bedrooms is classical-style and nice. The often praised breakfast has a certain variety of course, but the quality of some products (e.g. bread, cheese or juice) is rather poor. Nevertheless no cheap-style hotel, but friendly and competent staff, excellent service, proper and very well situated. (P.s. Pay attention if you use WIFI. You'd better take the 24-hours offer.)

Well...when the room says "single", it literally means one twin bed. I thought it meant a queen but obviously I was corrected when I got there which means we had to rent an additional room for my husband! Unless you are from Europe and enjoy hostel-type rooms, do not stay here.

Excellent hotel in an ideal location. My wife and I stayed 10 days and greatly enjoyed it. The staff were helpful in making restaurant reservations and buying tickets for events. The neighborhood is ideal: near a vaporetto, near the Rialto market, and with several excellent Osterias close by. I highly recommend the Ca' Favretto!

Well presented and a warm welcome - nothing was too much trouble. A god quality hotel with more of a 'pension' feel to it. We would stay there again as going 5 star is a waste when you spend such little time in your room - Venice is for exploring!

This was an excellent location and a lovely hotel. It is quite old in style internally but this matches the building itself and it was well maintained and clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was perfect for getting around to all of the main sites and is a very quiet area with the hotel facing onto the Grand Canal. Overall a very good and reasonably priced hotel

Very nice hotel with generally very good, efficient and friendly staff. A stand out was the excellent breakfast and very friendly dining room staff. The room was spacious, well equipped and well maintained on a daily basis. The one criticism I would have was the walls and ceilings of the room I was in were a bit thin so you could hear fellow guests a little too easily from time to time but overall this was a minor problem. Also this was a first floor room and whilst not overlooking the Grand Canal, it did overlook a small side canal which tended to be used early morning as an access/service point by runabout/dinghys with outboard motors so sleeping in is tricky if you're a light sleeper. Getting to the hotel from San Stae Vaporetto stop is not the easiest and involves a few twists and turns down small alleys and over two bridges, so best to arrive during the day, and preferably with not too much luggage. Overall though the hotel was very nice, well priced (during winter at least) and has a nice elegant but relaxed ambiance. Would I go back ? I suspect I'd like to try another part of the city to experience staying in one of the other districts but if it's your first visit to Venice , then this is a great way to start given its relatively central location and ease of travel by either vaporetto or on foot to other parts of Venice.

Hotel Cassiano - Ca'Favretto was an excellent place to stay while visiting Venice. The rooms are not very spacious, but are well-maintained, comfortable and tastefully decorated. As advertised, it is located on the Grand Canal and is just a short walk (or water taxi/bus ride)to major attractions. The staff is well-trained, courteous and responsive. The hotel has a small deck right on the canal - a great place to sit, watch the boats go by and to meet and mingle with other guests.

We spent three lovely nights at the hotel in a triple room, located in the top floor above the entrance of Ca'Favretto. Our Triple was spacious enough for 3 people and decorated in classical Venetian Style which made you feel really special. Though the stairs were very steep to reach our floor we had no problems getting up(but for older people it might be a bit too tiresome). What we particularly loved was sitting outdoors on the small terrace right at the Canal Grande, enjoy our drinks from the Bar and watch the boats go by - it was absolutely heavenly!

The special character of this hotel is that it sets out to create the sense of a 'period residence', with plenty of antiques, art-works and reproduction furniture and fittings. It was the home of a nineteenth-century artist, Giacomo Favretto, and still displays some of his work. It's one of the prettiest small palaces on the Grand Canal. In other respects, its a very decent hotel too, but it's the character of the place that separates it from the crowd. Our room was not large, but attractively furnished and had a balcony with side-view onto the grand canal. Breakfast was nice enough (continental and cooked selection). Only warning to give is that there's no lift, and stairs to second floor are steeper than usual, so request a first-floor room if this is a difficulty for you.

I've stayed in this hotel many times and always value the professionalism of the staff and the great view across to the Ca d'Oro - this has to be one of the best views in Venice. On one of my days on this stay, the hotel seemed busier with a group of visitors who were less in tune with the spirit of the place, but this is difficult for the hotel to control. It isn't the cheapest hotel in Venice but there has been an adjustment in rates recently, and I think the value for money is good, given that hotels here are more expensive than elsewhere in Italy.

This hotel as promised was on the Grand Canal and our room was as promised. It was clean but amenities in room nearly as old as the hotel. I would not sit on the couch. We paid over $300 a night. I expected more but perhaps any room on the canal would be this much but I'd pick a different place to pay it.

Four star hotel....One star experience. Very disappoined with this property. There are many hotels in Venice....I would suggest staying somewhere else. We were there for a special anniversary and had a terrible experience. The noise (inside) was so loud we could not enjoy our visit. I went to get a cup of coffee after the terrible night sleep and the lady stopped me at the door to my room and said I could not take the coffee cups into the room. She made me give her the cup (full of coffee) back. After that I complained at the front desk. They were not very concerned with my complaints but did suggest that we could change rooms. After all our stuff was unpacked, and since we had an early flight the next morning....this would have been added inconvenience to an already disappointing visit. Save yourself the grief -- stay somewhere else!

Difficile de parler de l'hôtel, car nous avons été relogés dans un autre hôtel, suite à une climatisation qui ne fonctionnait pas. The hotel is a small very nice 4* hotel with some double bed rooms with Grand Canal view. All single rooms and some double bed rooms do not have Grand Canal view. A Grand Canal view doublebed room booking was EUR 100 more expensive then without the exciting view. My wife and me were there for 1 night and had a big airconditioned room on the 1. floor, new renovated with nice interior and romantic view on the Grand Canal. Bathroom is very small but clean. Breakfast is good with good variety. In the airconditioned breakfast area inside it is like in every other hotel - nothing special - but having breakfast on the balkony with Grand Canal view (only 2 tables, each for 2 persons) is exciting. Arrival with luggage from car parking to the hotel we had to pay for a water taxi 70 EUR to the hotel (booking in the car parking) and 50 EUR back from the hotel (booking at the hotel reception) to the car parking.

This is a fabulous hotel. Located near the Rialto bridge, our room looked out over the grand canal, but was still quiet at night. The room was large by european standards. The staff was very helpful, especially the night manager who woke up at 4 am to make sure we got our water taxi on time. The breakfast room was airy and had an excellent view. This hotel is in the most amazing old building overlooking the Grand Canal. Although altered several times since first built, it retains the essential character of its origins whilst providing excellent accomodation. Inevitably, in a building of this age, there is no elevator and the stairs are steep. The staff, however, are magnificent and whisked heavy cases to our room without a problem. The staff at reception were also extremely helpful in advising on all aspects of where to go, what to see and, most importantly, precise and accurate details of how to get there. The breakfasrt room with its balcony overlooking the canal provides a stunning outlook to start the day while a digestif or nightcap at one of the intimate tables on the private landing stage ensure a similarly unique end. We had a most enjoyable stay.

Highly recommended!!! Wonderful hotel with wonderful staff, in a great location: close to the Rialto bridge but far enough away to be quiet at night. On the Grand Canal, some rooms with canal views. Close to Vaparetto. Plenty of places to eat, at varying prices, within a short walk. Delicious full-service breakfast in a sunny room overlooking the Grand Canal. The air-conditioning did not work in one of our rooms - and we were upgraded to a nicer, larger room with a canal view; big thanks to Giovanni and his colleagues. Throughout our stay the entire staff was helpful and friendly, as if we were friends not just clients. A friend who lives in Venice said that from now on he will recommend all his out-of-town guests stay at San Cassiano. It is that good.

I carefully reviewed the comments from prior guests before booking. I decided to go for San Cassiano Ca' Favrett based on the uniformly positive feedback. I wasn't disappointed! Our room was wonderful! Our windows opened up directly onto the Grand Canal. Not a view you tire of. The room was spacious, painted Georgian red, nice local paintings, a flat screen TV, a minibar which was very reasonable (EURO 2.50 for a small Heineken) and a clean, functional bathroom. It was a bit noisy in the morning as we were 2 doors up from the kitchen but that's a minor quibble. Breakfast was as good as other reviewers had said. Good variety and plentiful. Not much hot stuff - token bacon, sausage, and scrambled egg, but the continental stuff was fine and self-service as much as you want. The breakfast room does tend to fill up ca. 9:30 but nothing too bad. There's 2 tables on the balcony overlooking the Grand Canal - definitely a memorable breakfast. Quite what the large red plastic penguin is doing on the balcony, I don't know. It was the only incongrous element of our stay. On our last day, we had an hour before we needed to go to the Airport, so we had a drink on the landing stage. Again, very nice. For general Venice advice, getting the 1, 2, or 3 day Vaperetto ticket is definitely worth it. Once you leave Piazzala Roma (sp?), there are no roads, so you'll be working or boating everywhere. It's a reasonably large town, and we walked, and walked, and walked, and took lots of boats too. We didn't try the Water Taxis (expensive) or the Gondolas (raining most of the time) but the Vaparettos (Water Buses) are frequent, good value, and go everywhere. To get to and from the Airport, just get the #5 bus. It's just EURO 2:50 each way. We made the mistake of getting a taxi from the airport when we arrived, but it cost EURO 35 and has to stop in Piazzala Roma which is exactly where the bus stops, so there was no advantage in taking a taxi.

Ease of reaching the property by water taxi a real plus. Free use of internet, full breakfast included in rate were other strong points, as were the extremely reasonable bar prices for cocktails. Staff very welcoming and gracious. Small balconies both down and upstairs provide a great spot to view the Grand Canal and watch the sun go down. Only negative was the a/c in the room did not seem to work very well while it seemed fine in the lobby. It is an old building so the bathrooms are not large and impressive, but very functional. If requesting a canal view, I'd recommend also asking for an uppper floor as we were on the first floor and the room was a tad musty. Overall I'd recommend this hotel for it location and charm. For the cost it cant be beat! The single room my daughter had was small but functional and had a large closet.

Small, but confortable "single". Breakfast Room very nice, with a little balcony over the Great Canal. No elevator and access a little complicated (very small streets, bridges... better have few luggage).

Excellent hotel for the price. Great location right on the canal. Wonderful breakfast. Very helpful and pleasant staff. And fairly easy to find - once you get close to the hotel, there are obvious signs for it. Only one slight negative - if you're on the 3rd floor, there are lots of steep steps, and it can get tiring. This was the first time I'd stayed at this hotel - I've stayed at others in Venice - and it was a great choice. I would certainly come back again.

From the moment we arrived the staff was wonderful and always very helpful. The breakfast was very good with nice variety. We had a waterbus pass obtained from ATVO, which I fully recommend to a visitor to Venice. There was a bus stop within a 5 minute walk. Once we obtained directions from the hotel staff, it was easy to find. The hotel is old, and the main stairway under repair, but has a wonderful old world charm. Our room was beautiful, very clean, and beds very comfortable. The staff made us feel always welcome at the end of our day of wandering around the city. They arranged a wonderful taxi and tour of a glass factory on Murano. I would definitely recommend San Cassiano for a stay while visiting Venice and plan to return one day.

Rooms for singles are too small, you can barely move and too expensive. However, the hotel is nice and quite good situated, even though it is very difficult to find it.

You really need a detailed map to locate this hotel unless you take the watertaxi where you can dock at the hotel. We stayed in a triple room and the hotel was kind enough to give us the canal view. The room and bathroom were very spacious compared to other triple rooms in Italy. Very nice canal view. Rustic design and antique furniture. The breakfast was so good I had a second round. The hotel makes you feel like a million bucks and yet a one night's stay isn't that costly. Location is pretty good. 5 minutes from Rialto Market and 10 minute walk to the Santa Lucia train station. You can save $13 euros by not taking the ferry. Seems like they only check your tickets if you carry luggage otherwise you can ride the ferry for free. Remember need a very detailed map with street names otherwise you'll get lost in the lab-rat maze. Will definitely pick this hotel again if we revisit.

The San Cassiano is my first choice for staying in Venice for a number of reasons. The view from the breakfast room to the Ca d'Oro is unsurpassed. The area feels like the real Venice and is relatively free of tourists. There are any number of great places to eat within a short walk of the hotel. At the same time, you can get to any other part of Venice very easily, either on foot or by vaporetto. Having stayed in the hotel a number of times I feel as though I'm returning home - it's good to be greeted by familiar faces. At the same time, the staff are very professional and don't become too familiar with their guests. On the odd occasion when I've had to stay elsewhere, I have always felt I would rather be at the Ca' Favretto. Yes, the single rooms are a bit small but that is not unusual. I have no hesitation about recommending the hotel to friends.

We had a good room, spacious, but very small bathroom. The 2 windows opened out with good view of the Grand Canal. It did cost more being a "superior room with canal view". But when spending only a few days in Venice, why not? The breakfast room did not have enough space and tables when the hotel was full.

Excellent! The staff was very friendly and competent and did help with any question and request. The rooms are very! spacious (specially for Venice) and furnished with elegant furniture. It is absolutely great to have a drink on the little balcony on the floor directly on the Canale Grande. The highlight is to enjoy breakfast on the little balcony on the first floor (only two seats - so be early or you'll have to wait) and look on the awakening Venice on the canal. We will definitly stay there again. The hotel is relatively easy to find (again - specially for venice) because you simply have to head for the Canale Grande and there are also signs in the streets that point you to the hotel. It is comfortably located about 10 minutes walk to every major location like Rialto or Piazza San Marco. The price is a little higher than an average hotel would cost BUT you are in an elegant, beautifully located hotel which is worth the price!

We stayed here in Sept 2007 to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. It was perfect so much so we have already booked for next year!! The staff are great very helpful and friendly. The complimentary trip to the Glass works was an unexpected pleasure, the room (104) was perfect. The bed is comfortable and the room spacious. The breakfasts are good and the coffee must be the best in Venice (especially with a brandy!!)We were sad to leave but happy in knowing we will be going back next year. It is in a lovely part of Venice close to wonderful fish restaurants and all the main attractions withinn walking distance. We did'nt get lost but did arrive in a water taxi which we would both reccomend!! A truly wonderful small hotel. The only thing which would have been appreciated would be a hotel restaurant as after a busy 2 days walking around Venice the last night would have been nice eating at the Hotel. However, this has not put us off returning and we are looking forward to it already!!!

Enjoyed the hotel very much. The room was a bit small but adequate and in line with what you can expect for Venice. Only comment is that the price was high but have to expect that in Venice and for the location. The deck overlooking the canal for drinks and the breakfast room were really nice. Also, liked the location which was a bit removed from all the crowds. Would come back.

My family and I have stayed at San Cassiano Ca' Favretto the last two years. My parents had a room overlooking the Grand Canal. It was very interesting watching all the various types of traffic on Venice's main road. Double rooms are very spacious. However, single rooms tend to be quite small. Excellent hotel with a truly Venetian feel.

Having visited the San Cassiano when friends stayed there I knew how good it was and it lived up to my expectations. For the first night I had a room at the rear over the entrance and in future would ask for that again and forgo the noise of the Grand Canal which cannot be avoided if you are closer to it and have the windows open. The staff are excellent and very helpful, and the breakfast very good. I knew from experience how to find the San Cassiano and there are some signs which are helpful but one could have problems without a good map(Berndston & Berndston is the best I have found). In all the San Cassiano provides very good service in a wonderful location and is excellent value for money, I will certainly try to stay there in furure.

I found the hotel at the venere internet page and it looked interesting for me. The rooms were excellent, the hotel is very nice and deserves 5 stars. The only negative thing was the noise in the morning, because they were building a new house or something at the other side of the Canale Grande.

A lovely hotel, full of character, tastefully furnished, comfortable (extra pillows and blankets in wardrobe, no need to ask). Great little bar with small balcony on which you can sit and sip your Prosecco while overlooking the Grand Canal. Traditional walled Italian garden at entrance. The staff are efficient, helpful and friendly. The photographs and the description given on the site could make more of this hotel - the bar balcony and the garden? We go to Venice 2 /3 times per year for about 3 days each time. We will definitely return to San Cassiano.

For the single traveller, it's very difficult to find spacious hotel accommodation in Venice. Single rooms are invariably tiny, and things were no different at Ca'Favretto though my room (106)and its facilities were fine. Having said that, this is a nice hotel in a fabulous location on the Grand Canal where it's possible to sit on the small ground floor jetty with a drink and enjoy one of the most extraordinary views in the world. I went out of season - in January - and would definitely consider staying here again.
