Molto conveniente. Gli alberghi a Venezia sono carissimi, ma queste ha un eccelente rapporto qualità-prezio. Vicinissimo al ponte della Accademia, ristoranti e Piazza Magheritta. Invece, la prima colazione, un po' povera

We found the staff polite and responsive to specific questions, but not particularly warm or friendly. They were helpful, but just. No putting themselves out. For instance, we discovered by happenstance from another tourist that the Grand Canal was going to be closed to all public travel on the day of our departure because of an annual regatta. That would have ruined our departure plans as our car was parked in the causeway garage, accessible to us (because of luggage)only by vaporetto (the public bus-boat). We would never have known that if it were up to the Pausania desk staff. They eventually did the requisite inquiries to determine exactly what time the canal was closing and whether the vaporetti would be running in the early morning(they were). But they only did that under prodding from us, and only after suggesting we could walk to the garage -- about 3/4 mile over 6 bridges, each with 9 to 15 steps up and down, dragging two bags each.

This is an excellent hotel, warm, comfortable, spacious with a lovely rustic entrance and a lovely dining area overlooking the garden. The breakfasts are generous (buffet style) with fruit, yoghurts, a choice of cereal, croissants, buns, tea and coffee. The room although interior facing was spacious, warm and comfortable with a good bathroom. The upstairs lounge area is light, airy and comfortable. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone and being fairly close to Piazzale Roma, you won't have to travel far with your luggage.

This is a hotel that is in a beautiful location and historic. Venice is very expensive overall so this hotel's rates are reasonable in that context. The quad room was very tight spacewise, but workable. The staff were pleasant. There is one computer with internet access in the public space, which is included in the price, and we were able to use it after waiting a few minutes. The breakfast was excellent and filling.

Not often yu get the opportunity to stay in a 14thcentury building. Quite historic atmosphere.Ask to pay in Euros. If not, they will convert your bill to £s at their rate. Likely to be higher than your credit card deal. Breakfast was not good - poor bread selection. Otherwise a very good choice of hotel in an off- main -tourist- drag location. Good restaurants around but avoid cuttlefish and polenta! Easy to walk there from vaporetta stop and instructions from hotel were very clear on how to locate it. Buy tourist travel card at airport for length of your stay - cheapest way to get around. Take no. 5 bus from airport to Place Roma and catch vaporetto in direction of Lido .

The location was convenient, close to a vaparetto stop and the Maritime Station, and located on a pleasant, quiet canal. The 17th century building was nicely furnished and the dining room provided an adequate continental breakfast. The desk staff on duty were rather reserved but the hotel did provide for a comfortable stay in Venice.
United Kingdom, Jun 2008
This was my 5th trip to Venice and this was one of the better sites and hotels I've stayed in - quiet, in the lovely Dorsodura quarter, clean, continental breakfast quite satisfactory, staff spoke excellent English and were helpful. The stairs to the bedrooms are quite steep and there are 30 if you're in any way not fit! Whilst we had booked 2 singles one person had a good sized double but the other had a much smaller room, although an adequate single.

I loved the hotel. I'd go back in a flash. It's old and grand with plenty of charm. Location is ideal, away from the action but within walking distnace of everything.

Breakfast room is lovely, off the garden. Free computer for internet in bar (but no wifi). Breakfast is continental...no protein other than yogurt. Lovely old building, mostly very nice staff. Excellent location, near Campo Santa Margherita and Campo San Barnaba (near Ca' Rezzonico vaporetto stop). I would go back.

I stayed at Pausania for 3 nights and enjoyed the location and the helpfulness of staff very much. The hotel was very clean and the rooms small although charming. The bathroom facilities were exceptional. There was ample information available about all kinds of activities happening in Venice, especially musical events. The only minor inconvenience was being woken early by church bells every day. Enjoy your stay.

Hotel Pausanias was in a great location and the building itself was interesting. However, I found it a rather impersonal place to stay. The staff were businesslike -not very friendly, but OK on the whole: except for one receptionist who was inexplicably rude to me and shouted at me in front of other guests. I won't be going back to the Pausanias and neither will they, I hope.

For my second trip in Venice I chose this hotel because of his emplacement in the city and his quiet good price for the season. It was a really good surprise : it's a really good one absolutely charming, very nice to discover the city with a beautiful view, very close for everything and not so close from the crowd, with discrete and nice welcoming, a good breakfast. I recommand it and next time I won't hesitate to go back in this hotel.

The Pausania was a beautiful little hotel in the Dorsoduro neighborhood, in a quiet, somewhat off the beaten track canal/passage. The renovation of (I guess) a modest palazzo is amazing. From the marble stairs that go inside-to-outside-to inside from the reception up to the main public room with a good knock-off of a Tiepolo ceiling fresco to wonderfully modern decorated rooms, the place is a real pleasure. The breakfast is good and the room, very pleasantly, looks out onto a garden. The view from our double room, which was, I believe, huge by Venetian small hotel standards had a fabulous view of the surrounding neighborhood and the rooftops. There was a spacious bedroom and bathroom and a little sitting room. The single we got for our son was decent sized, very nicely furnished with a nice bathroom. It didn't have a wall window, however, rather a skylight window. The air-conditioning was quiet and effective, so the window could be closed when too hot or raining. I would recommend asking not to have this room because of that. We were right by the Rezzonica vaporetto stop, so we could get around really easily and most things, even San Marco's, were not more than a 10-15 minute walk (depending on walking speed and directness of route). There are also a number of really good and not completely touristy restaurants right in the area. The one we liked best was 4 Feri. The main downside was the Nurse Ratched receptionist (owner?). She was curt to the point of rude and very unwelcoming. She was also wholly unhelpful. In one sense, maybe she has a Nurse Ratched sense of integrity, in that when asked about any good restaurants nearby, she didn't recommend some friend/family-run dump like many places. She just said you can find "snacks" in the Campo around the corner. The Pausania is not cheap, especially for dollar tourists. However, I would say it's worth it if you really want a great experience of Venice, including hotel.

We arrived late in Venice and decided to walk from the bus drop off in the Piazza Roma. Although it isn't far (800m), it was difficult to find at night with the web site directions and many bridges to negotiate with heavy bags was difficult but we arrived and recieved a warm welcome. For a 3 star hotel this is excellent - the best we stayed in on our 2 weeks in Italy, with hot chocolate and pastries for breakfast, the children loved it very retro 70's decorated rooms but v.clean with good mini bar it a quiet area but walkable to St Marks Square (another 800m with water taxi crossing) would definitely stay again

We have stayed at this hotel before and we returned because the service and welcome given were excellent and very good value for money. Our room was up 34 steps so perhaps that would not be suitable for those who find climbing stairs difficult but there were ground floor rooms available so there should be no problem as long as the hotel is told of the difficulty. The staff at the hotel were friendly, polite, welcoming and extremely helpful. We will use this hotel again when we return to Venice and I can recommend it to fellow travellers without hesitation.

Surrounding environment is excellent. Since the hotel is located in the residential area of the heart of Venice, the surrounding area is pretty quiet and cozy. The stuffs of the hotel are functional and friendly. Most of the necessary amenity of the room are provided, although it seems that the air-conditioner had some trouble. The price is, indeed not so expensive according to the average price of Venice accomodation, though it is a bit disappointing for me to spend such a big price for the room they offered...

Arrived wet and tired to receive a friendly welcome. Then outside to a stone staircase leading up to a large salon and our interesting room on two levels. It was mostly quiet tho' we could hear talking from the room below at times. Splendid tiny modern bathroom, with a sit-in bath. Pleasant dining room overlooking a small garden where we had a typical continental breakfast, including chocolate croissants In a good area for exploring the lesser known quarters of Venice, and reaching transport. The Hotel was comfortable and warm -but was flooded at high tide and we waded to breakfast. Perhaps they could consider lending wellingtons to guests as we found one hotel had done?! We enjoyed our three days there and look forward to returning.

This was my first visit to Venice and I was relieved and delighted to have chosen such a great hotel. I'd never booked accommodation on the internet before, and like many people, I'm sure, I had my worries about how everything would turn out. I'm pleased to say that all of these reservations were unfounded. The staff were polite, warm, highly professional and very understanding from the outset and made me and my partner feel like we were more than welcome. One caveat I would offer to my fellow Britons visiting the Pausania is that they will feel outnumbered by continental Europeans, as the vast majority of guests at the hotel seemed to be from Germany, France, and elsewhere in Italy; I don't know how you'll feel about that, but it suited me absolutely fine!! Any misgivings? Just one: The photographs on the website - and some of the other reviews - in no way do this pleasant, appealing, discreet and highly professional hotel any justice.

We had a little difficulty finding the hotel but this was entirely our own fault. When we located the hotel we found to our dismay that the section of canal outside the hotel was under repair and thus empty with workmen with drills working to repair its banks. However, we were allocated a room at the back of the hotel with a view across the rear garden and so there was no noise problem (and the drilling was completed after the first day anyway). The welcome and efficiency of the hotel staff was excellent and overall we were very satisfied with our stay. We would certainly seek to stay there again if we retrun to Venice.

In the canal in front of the hotel were labors with noisy pumping off the water. The hotel was not giving any reduction for this inconvenience. The breakfast was very poor. The "garden" is not attractive at all. Overall: The hotel is too expensive for what it is offering, comparing with other hotels in Venice which we have seen.

We thought the price was too much for what we got. Also the price didn't match the price stated when booked through the website. We enjoyed the surrounding and the room. My wife and I stayed for about 11 nights, choosing this trip in Venice to devote some serious time to studying the 6 neighborhoods, museums, islands, etc. Pausania sits on a small quiet canal and is close to Campo S. Margherita, the liveliest square in Venezia. Also, it is close to the Accademia Bridge, and a reasonable walk to the train station, so location is good. Staff were pleasant and efficient and helped with a reservation for dinner (at Locanda Montin, which was vastly overpriced and overrated...caveat emptor! Try instead 4 Ferrie near Campo San Barnaba or L'Interno, which is near Margherita. The latter serves Sardinian food. The rooms, while small, were kept very clean by the staff. Bathrooms were excellent -- but keep in mind that you are in Europe, so the bath might be a smallish tub with shower that requires sitting or kneeling. You'll get used to it. In any case too much is made of room size these days. How much space does one actually need to get ready for bed, sleep, get up and get ready for a day of sightseeing? Breakfasts were not varied much, but were more than adequate -- cornetti, really good coffee, and juice, rolls, cheese and jellies. Mostly Brits and Germans visited when we did (last two weeks in March) and the occasional fellow American. We paid half the normal rates, given we were there in the shoulder season. That made it quite fine by us. We would go back. Oh, please note there is no elevator/lift in the building. We were in a third floor room, which involved a lot of stairs; not a problem for us, but I worried about some of the older travelers. However, other guests were only one flight up --- and that flight was an amazing and very old inner courtyard stone stair. Reviewed by (Heterosexual Couple)

The location of the hotel is really very good -just a few minutes' walk from the Grand Canal but it feels out of "tourist" Venice and in the "real" city. There's a fruit and vegetable shop just a few doors away and a nice little restaurant round the corner frequented by Venetians. Nearby Campo San Barnaba and Campo Santa Margherita are pleasant to wander around. The Fondamenta Gherardini itself is small and picturesque and the little canal sees visits by working boats bringing supplies. The old facade of the hotel is beautifully restored and the staff are friendly and welcoming. Because this is a small hotel it has a family atmosphere. I have only two mild criticisms: the single room my mother had was a bit narrow and was not so pleasant as the good-sized double room my husband and I had next door (hotels round the world seem to offer single travellers a mean deal, do they not?); the tables in the breakfast room are round and seat two persons, so if you are a family group and want to have breakfast together you need to go when it's quiet enough for the staff to put tables together. Overall, the Pausania is something of a treasure, my family enjoyed their stay and we will book there again.
