The room was very small and terribly noisy I mean you can hear all happening in the rooms around, stairs etc. At the price of 130 eur per night though it was a very good deal. If the price is higher I would look for another hotel. The breakfast was great!

This hotel is in an excellent location, both for travelling to and from, and for sight-seeing, shopping, etc. The staff were really wonderful, and we had a very pleasant stay. Would definitely stay there again. The breakfast was very nice, and again, the service staff in the hotel were wonderful. Very nice all around.

Tidy rooms but very small (we couldn't almost enter to the room with our hand luggage!). Nice and clean bathroom, although the room wasn´t as clean as we wished. Very close to St. Marco Square and to Rialto Vaporetto. I recommend it to young couples. A little bit expensive taking into account all the services.

The room we stayed in was one of the most beautiful rooms we've ever been in during our travels, the hotel is very well located and the staff is helpful and nice. There are no "extras" offered, which was perfectly fine by us, but maybe the breakfast offer could use more variety as it's on the small side.

Clean and cosy. Very convenient and close to both St Marco Sq and Rialto. A bit pricy.

Small but very nice hotel. Nice rooms and very friendly staff. My only complaint was the restaurant the staff recommended twice, a place that served cheep food at high prizes and with poor service. Go for the smaller osterias at the other side of the Rialto bridge instead, or - if you want a really good meal - visit El Paradisio at Calle Paradisio, also on the other side of the bridge. Talk to Giordanno and have him compose your menue and tell him that Anders & Maria from Sweden recommended his restaurant. Not cheep, but well worth it!

Quiet, yet close to Rialto and San Marco. Very safe (staff lets guests into the hotel 24 hours a day, no keys to exterior door given out) - would be a good choice for a single traveler.

We were disappointed. Having stayed in Venice a few years ago we compared our room this time to what we had last time - there was no comparison. The room we were first given was tiny and smelled of smoke - it had virtually no light/windows and was right next to the lift - the second room we got was a little larger but next to the dining room so at 6:30am every morning it was pretty noisy. We attended a wedding and there we saw over 10 hotel rooms of other guests - they all looked better than ours and the price was comparable.

We had a terrific time. The only drawback was the noise in the street, particularly late at night and in the early morning when the shopkeepers rolled open those metal shutters. However, the people who worked at the hotel were friendly and provided good advice. The directions to the hotel were accurate. However, if you are going to Venice for the first time, you will need to ask where Calle de Bembo is because it looks like little more than a hole in the wall and is poorly marked. However, it is right at the Rialto vaporetto stop. The orange "line" Alialaguna (12 euros) ran from the airport to the Rialto stop. The other lines run to San Marco, which looks close to the hotel on the map. But the staff warned us of the many pedestrian bridges with lots of stairsteps to cross and to get off only at Rialto. We would gladly stay here again.

Extremely friendly and helpful staff. We received a really helpful e-mail when we booked with a map of the location of the hotel and even which water taxi to take. That was really appreciated. The room (superior) was fabulous and on two floors. The location couldn't have been better, approximately 5 minutes from the Rialto bridge but in a tiny side street so exceptionally quiet. Excellent value for money and highly recommended.

Really excellent location - 1 min Rialto 3 mins St Marks square; lots of alleyways etc to explore; twin room spacious with enough storage space (we were there for 5 nights with lots of clothes); beautifil en-suite shower room; VERY helpful and courteous staff; excellent air-con in the room (it was July); small breakfast room, but so what - on holiday and no schedule to keep so on odd accasion we waited for a table it didn't matter. Thoroughly recommended (also Omnibus restaurant on the Grand Canal-side left out of calle Bembo - 2 mins from hotel.

First and foremost, the staff at Palazzo la Scala was fabulous! They were helpful, pleasant and provided an overall great hotel experience. We spent our honeymoon at Palazzo and it was beautiful. Our room was gorgeous with hard wood floors, private bath, and the largest bed we found in Europe. We did upgrade to the suite, which I highly recommend. The between the Rialto Bridge and Piazza San Marco - perfect. The staff was more than accomodating and spoke many languages well.

This hotel is in a fantasic location right in the heart of Venice. All of the great attractions are within walking distance lots of great bars and restaurants close by. We had a Suite for four nights. If you can afford it treat yourself, what a fantasic room really big. Watch when eating out as some of the local restaurants are very very expensive shop around before you eat. Try not to order a bottle of wine either a bit pricy order a caraf of house wine if possible a much better option. Good experience would recommend it.

I had a very nice stay at the Palazzo la Scala. The location was very easy to find and centrally located in a great area. Prior to my arrival I had received a detailed map and directions to the hotel which made it very easy to find even in the dark. I was travelling alone and felt very safe in this area at night. The rooms were very nice and very clean, although a lot smaller than I had expected but I'm coming from the US and I'm used to larger rooms. The location is perfect, lots of shops and restaurants in the area. There is access to an American Express location and visitor information center just across the plaza San Marco, close to the Alilaguna and water bus stations. I would definitely stay here again. The staff was AMAZING, I couldn't say anything bad about them. They were all so very nice, very helpful and very knowledgeable about the area and the places to go. The airlines had lost my luggage and the staff offered to continue to call the airlines for me until it was recovered, two days later. Thank you for a wonderful stay. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone. I will be staying here again on my next trip to Venice. Ciao.

As we visit Rialto Bridge and St Mark's square each time we go to Venice, this hotel was excellently located and easy to find.Unfortunately, on arrival we were told we would have to move room after one night. First room was next to kitchen and breakfast room and vey noisy in the morning. The remaining nights we stayed in a fourth floor room-much quieter.Following discussions with the manager a cost reduction was given. This negative experience did cloud what is a nice hotel with friendly staff. We would stop here again but insist on identifying our room up front.

This was by far the best hotel we stayed at during our two-week trip in Italy. The hotel is very very cozy and two blocks from the Rialto bridge, an unbeatable location. The hotel management contacted us as soon as our booking was confirmed and they kindly provided useful directions to find the hotel upon our arrival. We also told them that we were on our honeymoon and Michele, the hotel manager immediately upgraded us when we arrived to a larger room at almost no extra cost. He was always helpful and kind. Breakfast was excellent with fresh fruit (although no espresso or capuccino) and pastries. The rooms and bathrooms were absolutely great, comfortable and clean, VERY CLEAN, also quiet (they have great windows). Next time we go to Venice, we will definitely stay again at Palazzo la Scala. Indeed, you pay a bit more than what you would pay in any other 3 star hotels, but you definitely get much more: great service, good beds to rest after such long walks, and clean modern bathrooms, plus an unbeatable location! What else you could possibly aim for in such an expensive destination as Venice?

This was a very pretty and cozy little hotel. We liked it's individualist style which makes a lot of difference compared to a stay in a hotel operated by a chain. Description of how to get there could be a bit more detailed when it comes to the way from the vaporetto-station. Unfortunately, this questionaire does not allow ratings more detailed than 1, 5 or 10 points, I would have liked to give you 7 points instead of 5 for quietness of rooms.

The Palazzo la Scala was wonderfully located, equidistant from the Rialto Bridge and San Marco Plaza. (While the hotel is not directly on Calle di Fabbri, one must only look left down a small side street off of Calle di Fabbri to find it as one walks from the Rialto Bridge) The rooms were well decorated very clean. Nicest hotel we stayed in during our three weeks in Italy. The bathroom was bright, clean and well-maintained. Our only negative issue was that our room shared a wall with the kitchen, so we heard breakfast preparations very early each morning. This noise problem was probably unique to our room (#106). We would definitely stay here again in a different room. Great location near, but not too near, St. Mark's Square and only a couple of minutes from the Rialto Bridge vaporetto dock on the Grand Canal.

We very much enjoyed our stay in Venice, a wonderful and unique city, and our stay at Palazzo la Scala. Our room was small but comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and more than adequate. The staff was extremely informative, pleasant, and helpful. The web site could use better directions on finding the hotel. Get off the vaporetto at Rialto, turn right walk along the Grand Canal a short distance, cross bridge over a small side canal, and then turn left into a small (3-4' wide) alley/street with the name Calle Bembo.Go one block and cross an alley/street. Continue ahead and the alley/street you are on changes its name to Calle del Fabbri. The door of the hotel is on a side alley to the left. The location being between the Rialto and Plaza San Marco is very convenient.

Venice is expensive place to stay. This hotel is worth of your money. Easy place to arrive: so near Rialto vaporetto stop as can be. Do not use the San Marco stop, too far away. Easy to find eventhough the small alley is not beautiful. Good place to stay with friend, we got separate beds as asked. We can highly recommend this hotel. Breakfast was good (buffet).

A very nice hotel and very convenient to St. Marks Square. We were offered an upgrade to a larger room at a reduced price and we accepted. It was a very comfortable room and at a good enough price. I would have disappointed with the room we would have been given before the upgrade, much smaller and basic than I would have thought at the original price, which certainly didn't make it undesireable, you would however be paying more for location than space and might want to take that into consideration. There were no real negatives and would be able to recommend.

Finding the hotel was just a bit difficult . . . because it is not directly on Calle dei Fabbri . . it is in a little alleyway off the main street . . . but we found it. Staff is EXCELLENT. Smell in the hallway unpleasantly pungent, but in the room not a problem. Great bathroom facility - clean, spacious although only a shower, no tub. Initial reaction to the room was "I can't BELIEVE a room this small". But the location was so good - halfway between Rialto and San Marco, and the staff was so helpful, spoke English very well and were very accommodating . . . that we were OK with the room. It is VERY tiny, only room for the bed. For the price and location, I would stay there again.

What a fabulous location, a little hard to find at first, but this is because it is perfectly tucked in between St. Marks and the Rialto bridge. Staff could not have been more accomodating. Stayed in the suite, excellent. Word to the wise, if you are flying into Venice, Treviso airport is an hour at least away in another town. The bargain between the airfare out of Treviso verses the cost af a taxi( aprox. 85 euro) is not such a bargain after all. Try to fly into Marco Polo. This hotel had a great breakfast also. Highly recomend!!!!!

Our stay here was great. The staff were welcoming, friendly, efficient and professional and multi-lingual. Our room was small but elegant and had good decor, with a large bed, mini bar, lovely bathroom, limited wardrobe space, a safe (no charge). There is a lift. In spite of the very limited space in which to move, we found the room very pleasant to return to after a long day walking around Venice. We had read that it was hard to find but we went straight there. We got the express bus from the airport to P Roma, then the Vaporetto No 82 or No 1. If you get off the No 1 at Rialto then that is right at the end of the street (alley). So walk down the alley, which becomes C Fabri and follow the numbers, a gap in the numbers will identify where the hotel is just off down a small alley. This makes it very quiet. The location is then superb turn right and the lane takes you to the Rialto in 3 mins, turn left and the lane takes you to P San Marco in 10 mins - how good is that. Breakfast is nice, juice, cereal, yoghurt, cheese, ham, bread rolls, croissants, tea (various), coffee, biscuits. We would have no hesitation in staying there again and fully intend to. We advise using the Lonely Planet to choose where to eat. It is easy to pay a lot of money and get poor quality food in Venice but with the LP, whatever your budget you can be sure to get good value and good food. Jackie and Steve

I don't recommend this hotel to others. Our double room was too small to open suit case. Maybe room space was 10-15 sq.m. Bathroom was quite tiny, as well, perhaps less than 3 sq.m. We couldn't open windows because quite close to next building. We couldn't have any sunshine. TV was quite small and old. Our room was so far from the phote on its website. Servises provided wa probably not bad but tiny room made us so unconfortable. No internet access in our room and neighborhood. We booked this hotel 6 month before stay because of our stay was on high season but this tiny room was provided. Location was good but difficult to find out.

The location was very convenient and the staff were very helpful. Our room was located next to the breakfast room, so there was some noise during set up. The rooms were small but well appointed and clean. The staff also arranged for us to attend a concert on Christmas Eve. There was a slight odor problem on the lower staircase, but it didn't affect our room at all.

Lovely staff, lovely hotel, lovely city... Can't recommend this hotel enough. An excellent extra is they bring you breakfast on a tray in your room, at no extra cost.

TThis hotel although a bit hard to find, was quite adorable. We had a suite so our room was very spacious. Breakfast was also nice. There is a travel/tourism shop just down the street and the location close to square was fantastic.

On the whole this is an excellent hotel; my wife and I very much enjoyed our stay. The only issue was that we paid for a premium room, but the room we were given seemed a little small. It may just be that all rooms in the hotel were small. However, our room was situated right next to the breakfast room, which meant that we invariably got woken up at 8am, even though we were trying to have a lie in. We were disapointed that, although we apparently had a premium room, this was situated next to the breakfast facilities. Perhaps the hotel should consider this? Despite this, my wife and I both had an excellent stay in Venice.

The location of the hotel is superb, you couldn't be more central. The rooms are clean and comfortable but tiny. We stayed three nights and had to live out of the suitcase because there was nowhere to store clothes. The small wardrobe was more than half filled with a safe so could only hang half a dozen short items (e.g.jumpers/shirts). Similarly the breakfast room is very small - you may end up queuing in the hallway.

Ruth and I had the most incredible time in Venice and staying at this hotel was part of that lovely experience. The staff were so helpful and friendly. My only gripe would be the instructions on how to get from the river bus to the hotel. If you know the correct way then it is really easy. Nonetheless, I hope to stay in this hotel again soon. Big thank you to all the staff.

Ideally located between St Marks and Rialto Bridge. Sound street noise, but all of Venice is that way. Clean, large room (302), fine breakfast. I would stay there again in a heartbeat!

The hotel was a little difficult to find since it was located on a small side street and their sign was small. Even though the room was tiny, it was brand new, very clean with an enormous bathroom.

I stayed at this hotel at the beginning of September 2005 with my mum and we both loved it. The Room was very pretty and clean. The staff were very nice and helpful with anything we needed. The only suggestion I would make is that the Breakfast Room should be on a lower floor away from the bedrooms as our room was right beside it and it's quite small. I would highly recommend this hotel, it's right in the centre and only a short walk to St. Marks Square :o)

We booked this hotel from the reviews on this website. To our delight, we were upgraded at no extra charge because we were on our honeymoon. The rooms were just as displayed in the photos and were extremely clean and tidy. The only thing that was a little disappointing about the room was the bed - it was really hard compared to what we are used to. The staff were very helpful and spoke very good English. The location of the hotel is fantastic - they are right in the heart of Venice with everything in walking distance. Highly recommend this hotel for a great stay in Venice.
