The receptionist was very kind and helpful. The location of the hotel was superb!-just cose to Piazza di San Marco. The price is rather expensive, but compared with other hotels near the San Marco Square in Venezzia,it is quite reasonable.

Location was sensational - literally a 1 minute walk to St Marks and in the heart of everything. The service was good but the room was small. The breakfast room was quite small as well which made things a little cramped. There are no lifts but the staff offered good assistance in getting bags up to the 3rd floor. The hotel and room were clean and everything worked as expected.

Charming hotel. Typically small, but only steps from some of the most amazing sites. No internet available, but very convenient to internet services. The best gelatto just outside the front door.

Very nice renovations. Double glazed sound proofed windows. Rooms lovely. I really liked the breakfast room. Nice theme. Breakfast was fine. Everyone at the desk was great. Very near everything but nice and quiet inside. They give good directions on getting there. A very quick and easy walk from the water taxis. Every single thing in Venice is a ridiculously high price. I suppose they have you caught there!!!! The hotel was expensive but then so is everything!

You are 200metres from St.Marks Square. The hotel is well appointed. Low season value is sensational through venere.com I would definitely recommend this hotel. It was dry throught the recent flood. Like every hotel in Venice, takes time finding. The breakfast is a smidge better than a continental. If they throw out the bidet, there'd be more room in the bathroom.

This is my second visit to Venice. Hotel Orion location is fantastic, easy to find hotel, 2mins to St Mark's Square and 3mins to Rialto Bridge. Good breakfast with generous servings. Good service and value for money by Venice accomodation standard.

Great location, a hop and a skip from San Marco. Small hotel with steep stairs, but the room was spotless, spacious, and comfortable. We were right above a small square which was quite busy (noisy), but the double-glazed windows shut out the noise beautifully. Our quad room was not inexpensive, but the great location meant we could get much more out of our limited time in Venice.

Excellent location though difficult to find with the map provided. Lots of stairs to climb (no lift)though the hotel looked after the luggage. Though the room was not large it was fine for 2 adults and 1 teenager. Noisy if want to sleep with windows open. With A/c OK. Good breakfast with excellent staff.

Hotel was a little noisy on the first morning of our stay and I was awakened at 5.30am from the noise from the breakfast room which was located directly above our room. Apart from that everything else about our stay was perfect. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The location was excellent. We would definitely return to the Orion!

Finding the hotell was a bit tricky, but it's just because of the Venice streets are a bit confusing. A bigger sign at the hotel would do the job easier. Receptionist was very kind, with good english. As we had to leave early, he even called waterbus to find out what time they go. The room was very quite, a bit small, but very clean and nice, with a LCD TV in it. All our family was happy with the cosiness of the room. Definitely would stay there again. Thank you.

LOVED Orion! Location can not be beat- it is a 45 second walk to St. Mark's Square and the hotel itself is located in a lovely little square. There is a take out cafe right across the alley- that has pizza, gelato, beer, wine- we loved it. The rooms were clean and our view was amazing- we looked down on the square. In the afternoon we could hear the hustle and bustle of venice, but while sleeping we shut the windows, turned on the air conditioning and could not hear a peep. There is no lift so request a room on a lower floor if necessary. Tip: As any wise traveler should, find a good map before you leave home on the internet and locate your hotel- once you get to Venice, it is confusing to navigate- especially when all of the streets are not labelled- or labelled in the places you are used to looking.

Thanks to the feedback left previously we found the hotel without a problem...straight under the clock in San Marco Piazza first right, first left (shop with toy cars on the corner) and then look for the lamp on your left about 50m opposite the bar. We had the only room on the top floor (5th) It would have been a struggle to get the luggage up if I wasn't with my strong husband...but it was worth it, as the room was large, airy and had a view over the rooftops. Had a bit of a humming noise probably from aircon units close by but we were able to sleep fine. Breakfast was sufficient, they were good enought to keep our bags all day as we didn't leave til late afternoon. I'd stay there again for sure!

Fabulous location off Piazza San Marco (hard to find!) Lovely big room on its own on the top floor (5th, no lift) overlooking the rooftops of St Mark's - more like an apartment. My third stay at this friendly hotel. Excellent location, right in the hubub of things. A little noisy at night due to people's voices reverberating down the narrow alleyways on their way home. Probably solved by closing the shutters - which we didn't! Very clean, comfortable and convenient - good value for a short stay and so close to the evening 'entertainment' in St Mark's Square.

If not for directions given on tripadvisor.com we would have never found this hotel. Staff was rude, we struggled with our Italian and they would not or chose not to speak English. When they tell you to store your luggage on the first floor, they actually do mean just to leave it on the stairs. We had a quad and it was tight and very worn. Breakfast was good but don't try to get the croissants yourself. The women working the breakfast room yelled at us. However, you can get your own cereal and yogurt no problem. Strange! The location is excellent and for a short stay is worth the price.

(Brazil). We spent 3 pleasant nights in this hotel at the centre of Venice. We could visit the museums, chuches and restaurants from early morning to late night. Everything was in our neighbourhood. The service was attentive and we are very satisfied with our holydays, but there is much noisy in the morning early

The only good thing that I can say is that the location of the Hotel could not be any better, with in steps of San Marco Square. Otherwise the room was small and noisy. In the morning light from the kitchen came through a crack in the ceiling, not to mention the noise from the kitchen. We had asked to check out early and were told we could. The next morning the clerk told us that it was not possible. He then said early check out was O.K. but, he charged an extra $30 above the quoted rate. I would not stay here again.

I would recommend this hotel to firends travelling to Venice. Light-sleeping travellers should be aware that any hotel in Venice will be subject to significant street noise even though there is no automobile traffic--the narrow streets amplify every conversation from the crowds below. However the Hotel Orion has excellent double glazed casement windows in addition to the usual shutters and this makes the rooms quite quiet (at the expense of being a bit stuffy.

This was a great little hotel to stay in and we think it was in a great area, so central to everything and easy to walk everywhere. It was very clen and neat. Great value for money. The directions that we got from comments on the site were very good but the site address its self is a bit lacking as it is just San Marco 700/A. This did not help as San Marco is the whole district not the name of the street. The street is, c spadaria near San Zullian Square. I think this will help others to find it. SMALL BUT TOP VALUE FOR MONEY.

This place really does live up to and surpass the reviews on this site. When I was looking for a place to stay in Venice I scanned the reviews for the Orion and thought that it sounded pretty good for the money and the reality was even better than my expectation. We had room 26 overlooking a small square in front of a church and the Cartier shop. Although the street outside is a bustling thoroughfare in the day time it is nice and quiet during the night. If you follow the instructions it is really easy to find, through the clock on San Marco, first right, first left and it is on your left after about 100 metres, look out for the lamp above the door. It is very conveniently placed close to San Marco and the Rialto Bridge. The staff are very helpful and friendly and speak very good English, they even tried to understand my very poor Italian and helped to improve it for me. For the Brits thinking of staying here, bring a travel kettle for making tea as there is no kettle in the room. We had to either get the staff to turn on the coffee machine or get a flask of boiling water from where ever we had eaten at night. Breakfast is cereal (very strange cornflakes) bread rolls and croissants. Tea and coffee are on offer as well. If you have any special dietary requirements let the hotel know in advance and they will sort something out. Plenty of places to eat nearby, if you are on a budget stay away from San Marco as it is very expensive, look around and you will find some very good value places. We will certainly stay at the Orion again and recommend it to anyone thinking of staying in Venice. Well done and thanks to all at the Orion.

I had read the reviews prior to booking the Orion and I have to say they were fairly accurate in that...the Orion provides clean, comfortable, typically Venetian styled accomodation in the BEST location for a short stay. I couldn't fault the location in anyway. Like some others who have commented on the site, we weren't in the main block where the reception is, but had a room about 10 yards down the road. The room itself was spacious with a sofa, double bed, dressing table...all furnishings were in a typical Venetian style, quite old-worldy! The bathroom was spacious with a shower which provided hot water, pressure wasn't great, but it was more than sufficient. I had a bath and discovered that you have to let the water out very slowly or it came up through the drain in the middle of the bathroom!!! There was a knack to it, and it was fine. I didn't rate breakfast AT ALL, but then I am not a fan of the continental breakfast, so don't worry about getting up early for this. Venice is an amazing city and if you like to shop, this is an excellent location as you are right in the middle of all the designer shops - bliss!

This place was EXCELLENT all the way around - Location, Staff, Location, Services, Location, Price... I would highly recommend this place. It is litterally 1 1/2 short blocks off of St Mark's square, but the noise level was fine (granted we had a back alley view - not next to the church bell). You could go everywhere quickly from this hotel. The staff was friendly and accomodating and help us find a lot of information, even when we tried and butchered the Italian language. Finally, the breakfast was perfect for what we were looking for every morning - cereal, pastries, yogurt, coffee, tea, juice etc... DO NOT BOTHER LOOKING AT OTHER HOTELS! For the GREAT price and EXCELLENT location - this is it. We were pleasantly surprised with the hotel. We would absolutely stay there again and recommend it to friends (We already have)... One more thing - DIRECTIONS - without the entry from July 10th, 2005 below, who knows if we would have found this place. The description (toy shop and all) was right on! Thanks... Note to Venere Staff - You need some better pictures - the ones posted do not justice to the hotel.

PRO: Very clean rooms, very freindly helpful staff, very central location, breakfast is simple but fine. CON: Our room was the smallest hotel room I've ever stayed in, and I've traveled a lot. The bathroom was so small you literally could not turn around. It was extremely irritating for the first few days, but we adjusted. A room this small for almost $200 (US) per night is just too much. You can find a comparable room for significantly cheaper elsewhere in Venice. And, a word to the wise, there isn't much advantage to staying in the St. Marks area - it's just filled with millions, and millions of tourists. I think a savvy traveler will be happier in a quieter neighborhood.

The main problem was the noise because of the thin walls; all noises in adjoining rooms, especially the plumbing, were disruptive to sleep. The room and bathroom were very small; the water from the shower soon covered almost the whole floor because it didn't drain fast enough. It's a hard climb to the 4th floor without a lift! All the staff were very friendly and helpful and the central location of the hotel is terrific. NB there is a street name which should be given to customers to help find it.

We were working to a budget so we compromised on space and facilities to keep the price within bounds. The hotel was as described. Clean, efficiently run with courteous staff. Lots of atmosphere. There was a bell tower not so far away - you did not need an alarm clock. There is no lift (we were warned) which is significant if you are in one of higher rooms (do not forget anything). Beware opening the windows at night - the mosquitoes got me. An enjoyable and memorable stay. The hotel is very convenient if small.

Ok first off DIRECTIONS for everyone!!! Head through St. Marks's Square with the Basilica on your right. Keep going straight to the wall and then turn right. You then make your first Left right next to the Lion Statues. Head down this street, cross over a street and continue sort of straight on the next street. You will see a store with tiny cars in the window on the corner! This is the street of Hotel Orion!! Now this hotel is GREAT. No need to stay anywhere else. You are right in the middle of where all the action in Venice is so it is very convenient, especially if you don't have much time in this city. The rooms were great, with air-conditioning and comfy beds. The breakfast was really good, except for the breakfast woman in charge...don't touch anything youself!!! The manager is really nice as well. I recommend it highly!!!!

Fantastic location! A bit hard to find as maps are impossible to follow. No lift so our 4th floor room tested our fitness. Worth it. Would definitely stay here again.

The place was very hard to find. As the city of Venice really has a bad addressing system, Venere should have given landmarks and directions on how to get to the hotel. The bathroom was very small but clean and very adequate. The room itself was nice and clean. The people at the front desk were also very helpful.

Excellent location. The staff was very helpful and nice. I can recommend this hotel to anyone. All the accommodation I booked via Venere.com was exactly as I expected or better. So thank you for nice stay at Orion and Venere for your good service.

We arrived late and had good directions to the hotel that we had printed from another reviewer on the venere website. The picture directions given by the hotel were not very good especially in the dark. We tried them in daylight and decided that they were inadequate, especially as the clock tower in the picture was covered up for renovation. The Orion was very good, we had a room along the street from the main hotel and we had our own street entrance. Like in an appartment block. It was lovely and comfortable, very spacious and spotlessley clean. It was a great location just minutes from St Marks Square and all the water buses etc. We would recommend the Orion on our experience. The staff were all friendly. The continental breakfast is minimal but ok as it is included in the price which was very reasonable for the location. We had a great trip to this wonderful city.

I arranged this trip as a surprise for my wife on her birthday. She has not stopped talking about it since. I would like to thank the Orion personnel for making it a pleasant stay and would recommend Venice to anyone.

The hotel is very well located, in the heart of Venice and close to the main touristic area (i.e. Piazza San Marco and Ponte Rialto). The rooms are newly renovated, clean and reasonably spacious. Great cost/benefit.

This hotel is about 3 blocks of of Piazza San Marco...in the main part of Venice. If you are going to Venice for a few days, then this is perfect. Average size room for Europe and a small bathroom with a shower. The breakfast was typical European and the staff was great. Remember that the addresses in venice don't mean much...so stick to the directions that Venere gives you. I would definately recommend this hotel for the price and location you couldn't ask for more!

The hotel is a good choice. Quiet, simple, small & clean. Our room was spacious (compared to the ones we had in Paris and Rome), and at a competitive price. Location is very good, if only a little difficult to find, since the name of the "street" seems to have changed from the one indicated in the website. We spent the last day of our honeymoon here, and the helpdesk staff was very nice with us.

Great room, price and location. Had a little trouble finding it but I think that is the nature when you are unaccustomed. Highly recommend.

If you get the opportunity, ask for room 52. The top floor views are breathtaking! Do not let the walk up the stairs put you off, it is absolutely worth it. Excellent staff, great location, and the price [if you book well in advance], was great. we would definitely reccommend the Orion to anyone who wants a fantastic stay in Venice!
