Hotel was in a perfect location from train station. No elevator :( so you have to haul your luggage up the stairs. Room was clean, spacious, a bit dark (only 1 window). Breakfast was okay (same as most places serve: juice, coffee, milk, tea, breads, cereal, yougurt.) Would recommend to anyone

The hotel was a very well kept hotel, with a pleasent staff and located near the railway station and a short walking distance from Piazzale Roma where the bus from the airport deposits people. In addition the vaporette stop is a short distance away making trips to St Marks very easy. We enjoyed our stay here.

Habitación bonita, tranquila i lavabo muy correcto. Una buena opción sin duda.

What I didn't like about similar hotels in Venice is the location of rooms, which you have to walk in up and down, entering another buildings connected to the hotel ! Although there was an eleveator, and we staid in ground floor, we had to walik in up and down 45 steps and 80 meters !!!

Hotel Nazionale was exactly what we expected it to be, and even a little better. The room we stayed in was tight on space, but it had a lovely view over a rear courtyard garden and the city in the distance. I was surprised to find that there was no Internet point available in the lobby, as was advertised. I had to go across the street and pay for one instead. The location is very convenient to the train station, and the area was very quiet at night.

Rooms are very small. Our room was changed to a better located room because the first room was so very inconvenient to reach. Bathroom was modern. Location was excellent to the train station. Excursions to Murano are one way with payment needed for return trip. Minimal standards

We spent three nights in Hotel Nazionale. It suited our needs perfectly well - close to the railway station, close to city centre and Vaporetto station. The not-so-perfect relation between price and quality was to be expected - this is Venice, after all.... Breakfast could be a little less "spartanic". However, we would go there again.

This is an excellent hotel choice for Venice. The price is excellent. The location is close the Roma (Buses) and Ferrovia (train station). The is an internet cafe across the street. Along Spagna the main route to the Rialto is easy. Just follow the signs. The staff at the hotel were excellent! Service was excellent. I had a reservation for one night, but ended up staying additional nights. I even returned to Venice later in the trip and stayed at the Nazionale again. Unless you want a lot of glitz and glamour, this is a great place to stay.

Located only two minutes from the train station, clearly marked with a huge building-face sign which made it very easy to find. The staff were accomodating and we encountered no problems whatsoever. Perfect for a short visit to Venice.

Although the room was small, it was not a problem, since it was very clean. More importantly, the area surrounding the hotel was perfect. We arrived from Florence by train, and the station was 3 blocks from the hotel. I was traveling with my sister and we both agreed the hotel was perfect. Also, there was a very nice breakfast offered in the morning, included in the price of the room. Would absolutely stay there in the future.

For our European trip this hotel was the most expensive and the least liked. But Venice on a whole is too expensive and over priced and my family was happy we only chose to stay one night. Choosing a three star hotel we expected better. Especially after staying in a beautiful two star in Rome. We thought that with one night in Venice, lets try a three star hotel. Very disappointing. On the good side it was easy to find, close to the train station. Within walking distance form all sites. Venice is small anyway and can be covered in one or two days. Most of the hotels are close to each other anyway.

Great location, easily found, only a five minute walk from the station. Hotel looks ordinary on the outside but rooms and ensuite facilities have recently been renovated and were attractive, as was the breakfast room. Our room was small, but quiet, and overlooked the garden. We left the shutters open, had no need for the airconditioning. Breakfasts were quite basic. Our only complaint was that the property advertised a lift but it operated from reception on the first floor - carrying our bags from the street up a long flight of stairs was indeed character building. But we would stay there again.

The location of this hotel was perfect for us since we arrived late in the evening and walked from the train station. The room has no space to move around. I was allocated at the end of the hall which I have to go up and down the stairs many time, you can imagine what it's like when you are carrying heavy suitcase. The shower facility is very poor. The breakfast has no meat at all (i.e. Ham or Salami). I felt like I was staying in a backpacker's hotel.

Not many English or German speaking TV programs were available. Especially the breakfast and the spaciousness of our room were very poor given the price we paid for the night (140 Euros resp. 190 Euros for a double). Unfortunately, tourists are riped off everywhere in Venice. The city is great but prices are outrageously high.

The room was really small for the price. We were really disappointed. Also, the bathroom was so small and when you showered water went everywhere in the bathroom. It wasn't a horrible room. And it is very convenient off the train station. But it is not worth the price. We thought the price would ensure a little better quality. It did not.

My biggest problem was regarding changing my room from a triple room to a double room. When I emailed Venere, I received a reply that I had to contact the hotel directly to make such a change and receive a new rate. I called the hotel in Italy from California first to find out that Hotel Nazionale is no longer in operations and my reservations is transferred to Hotel Spagna. Secondly, the receptionist told me to write my request and fax it to him. I did. When we arrived at the hotel, we were told that their hotel had to pay Venere a commission based on a triple room so we had to pay the triple rate even though we only need a double room. This was the upsetting part. However, the hotel was clean, located in a perfect and easy to find area, breakfast was just okay and the television had CNN and BBC, but did not have any sounds. The Italian and German Channels were find.

The room was nice, clean, and large by European standards; the bathroom as well. The reception staff was attentive and helpful. Breakfast was not especially good (the granola was stale), the coffee tasted like instant, but the breakfast room was light and airy and the staff prompt and courteous. There was a plumbing problem that required the Nazionale to its transfer guests to its sister hotel, the Spagna; although it was not convenient having to pack an extra time, the transfer was accomplished smoothly and the Spagna was perfectly acceptable (Spagna manager Augustus will steal your heart if you are not careful).

The Nazionale was overall a good value and in a great location from the train station. It was a bit hard to find if you are coming in from the airport bus. The staff was great, and even called the the airport to inquire about our lost bags. This hotel was just as advertised....clean,safe, and comfortable, and the room was available early for us on the day of arrival. I would stay here again, except for the fact that I would never go to Italy ever again, as it is filthy, overpriced , and way overrated. Go to the U.K. and drink good beer!

I have a lot to write about this hotel. First of all the location was great. But that was about the only thing good about this hotel. I entered the hotel and went up to the front desk. I gave my name and told the guy I had reservations. Well, guess what, they didn't have me down for any reservations. So I showed the guy my reservation I printed out and he gave me a room. We got to the room and the first thing I notice was the floor was dirty. There were bread crumbs everywhere. I walked in the bathroom to check it out and there were dead flies in the sink AND the shower. There were also broken tiles on the wall and some were missing. The next morning my wife and I went to breakfast. Can you say LIMITED CHOICES. Coffee, hot chocolate(it tasted more like hot water), 2 kinds of cereal, milk, and croissants. I ate some of the cereal and it was bland so my wife and I went out and got some real breakfast. Anyone who's old might enjoy this hotel. But for newlywed's on their honeymoon, this is not the best choice. I've stayed at many hotels in Venice while on my 3 year military tour to Italy and this was the worst.

This is the worst value for money hotel that we have stayed in in 26 years of travelling. The fittings were cheap, the space is minimal (you have to almost stand in the bidet to have a shower), the staff chain smoke (in front of a sign that says "No Smoking"), the breakfasts were the worst we have ever experienced, and the decor is simply run down. On the plus side (!) the location is excellent. We wouldn't stay there again.

The hotel is located about 5 min from the train station in a touristy area, but how long are you actually at your hotel other than for sleeping? The location was excellent: near the railway station. Our room overlloked a courtyard. The breakfast was at least adequate. However, if you can manage this flight of stairs you are fine. We would stay at this hotel again.

The hotel is very close to the train station about 2 blocks away. The hotel is not the cleanest place in Italy but it is ok for the money. The best part about the hotel is that there is an internet cafe/bar next door to the hotel which was a great and cheap way of communicating with my family back home. We were pleasantly surprised by the Nationale Hotel. Given the price compared to other Venice hotels and its close proximity to the train station (very handy and easy to get to with luggage) we expected a much lower standard. The room/bed was very comfortable (incl A/C, TV) and the location was great. It was around a 15 min walk the St Marks but we didn't mind that, as it was all interesting and nice to escape the really touristy bit of Venice. Our room was at the back and was quiet, but I imagine that rooms overlooking the street could be noisy as there is a bar/cafe below. The breakfast buffet was adqeuate (cereal, rolls, pastries etc)and they even kindly provided us with a packed breakfast for our very early morning departure by train. They have an elevator from the lobby to the rooms, however there is a long flight of stairs from the road to the lobby. There was a porter to assist us when we arrived during the day, but he wasn't there all the time. Overall, we were very happy with our stay and would stay there again next time we go to Venice.

Venice is expensive but we were surprized that the standards can drop this low for a 3*. Location is OK and good for railway. The hotel has a smell of damp cigarettes in reception area, and when you enter the door and has is a flight of stairs to greet you which is covered with dirty carpet. The elevator has graffiti scratched into it. The rooms we had was OK and clean although light switch was hanging off. Dead mosquitos were splatted on ceiling and walls. Breakfast was pretty poor.

I think overall the quality of the service matches with the room rate. However, it would be better if a bottle of mineral water is provided in the room. Furthermore, according to the website, there should be internet access. But I realized that I need to pay for it in the internet cafe next to the hotel!! I would suggest the internet connection to be provided free of charge.

Arriving quite late at night from Marco Polo airport via the bus, we had a few problems negotiating our way from the bus depo in the dark!Basically head towards the canal.Turn right and walk along the canal side until you come to the first footbridge, cross over, continue walking straight, turn the corner and you will see the second main bridge infront of you. Cross over,(there a quite a few steps be warned!),turn right immediately and walk straight on, the hotel is 50yards on the left hand side.(Total time 20mins walk).I hope this helps if you arrive rather clueless like us! The hotel was great, lived up to expectations, very warm welcome. The meandering walk towards St Marks is clearly signposted(look on the side of the buildings for hand painted signs!), and an enjoyable walk. Also we recommend the ghost walk at night!A fun way to see the sights!Enjoy!

The location was very easy to get to from Train Station and that was about the best thing about this hotel. The bed linen had stains on it, the air conditioner only blew hot air, the noise from outside kept us up at night, and the TV only worked when it felt like it. What disgusted us the most was that we had cleaning staff come into our room a couple of times without knocking while we were getting changed and while we were asleep (both times before 9am!!), although the staff at reception were friendly and very helpful. We were travelling by train, and were delighted to find just how close the property was to the train station. The room was clean, the staff was pleasant, the breakfast was disappointing. The main problem, however, lied in the fact that the hotel is next to a bar/dance club. Although my husband was able to sleep, I had two sleepless nights because the extremely loud music played until 6:00a.m. It literally sounded like the music was coming from the room next door. Once the music ended, it wasn't long before the staff was loudly clanking dishes in preparation for breakfast. If you want to get any sleep, bring your earplugs.

This hotel was generally a good value for the money, with a convenient location, attractive interior, friendly staff and a decent breakfast included in the price. The one negative feature, and it was significant, was the mosquitos. Although I did not encounter mosquitos anywhere else in Venice during my weeklong stay in mid-September, this hotel seemed to be filled with them. Even the fabric-covered walls of my room were smeared with the bloody remains of dozens of mosquitos that previous guests had encountered. Having read about this problem in Venice beforehand, I selected the Nazionale because it had air conditioned rooms, which would allow me to keep the windows closed. However, the cleaning staff routinely opens the windows in the corridors and guest rooms to air them out, which causes the infestation. At my request, after a very uncomfortable night, the hotel did spray my room and leave my windows closed, which eased the problem considerably.

You get a very good breakfast, perfect location, if you arrive by train. The rooms are small and the breakfast room is too small for so many chairs and tables (you have to be careful not to spill your coffee on the way to your table). But overall perfect for a short stay in Venice.

The single room I stayed was tiny considering the price I was paying. I was also concerned about the security of the hotel as I noticed there is minimal check on visitor or guest's identity at the reception. My electric shaver was taken from my room. Although I didn't bother to complain this to the management. With hind sight, I could be get a better value accomodation with the amount I was paying.

The hotel offered an ideal place to visit Venice. Having the airconditionning in the room was great with the hot weather after long walks (it was very hot that week!). On walking distance you find good restaurants at good prices, we found a really good one where you could eat great pizzas & pasta a la vongole (with delicious shells) outside along the canal at 5-10min from the hotel (the name escapes me, it was 50m from one recommended by the "Routard", but much better atmosphere, don't always rely on the guides!). Price was exactly what the website had shown (+/- 110 Euro per night), no hidden extras. One day they had forgotten to clean or room, but if we had complained during working hours they would certainly have fixed it.

Very conveniently located to the train station, yet surprisingly quiet for being on the busy main street. Room was a bit small, but clean and functional, and the bathroom quite nice. Breakfast buffet was very good.

We had an A/C triple room there for 2 nights, in June 2003. The hotel has some pluses and some minuses: It is very well located on the Grand Canal: a couple of hundred yards from the railway station (on the same side of the canal) and even less from the nearest Vaporeto (main water bus) going to San Marco. I mention this as if you come to Venice with heavy luggage you will have to hand carry it from the train station. From the main car parking garages it is a bit more far away and you will have to cross a large bridge, climbing it up and down. On the other hand, the hotel is a complex of several buildings on the same block, interconnected on the inner side by a labyrinth of hallways and corridors. Our room was furthest from the entrance. To reach it we had to walk more than a hundred yards in this labyrinth, climbing up and descending stairs several times -- which was not very convinient. They have an elevator only in the main (first) building. To get to the reception desk from the street level we had to climb 27 stairs with our luggage. This hotel was the most expensive hotel we had during our 2 weeks in Italy (140 euro).

Very friendly staff, clean, good location, an excellent choice if you want to spend less money on a hotel - I lacked nothing!

Rooms were small, but clean. quite expensive for what you got, but compared to the rest of venice, a bargain! very good for access to the station. less good for the Piazzale de Roma. would definitely stay again.

very good location,2 minute from the train station and the waterbus stop. staff is not friendly. Drapperies and bed spreads are old but clean. Should skip breakfast, get a better coffee somewhere else. I think this should be rated a two star hotel rather than three.

Great location , close to train station, and the boats to the city. Bathroom was newly renovated, but the room was rather small and the carpets were old. To get to the hotel was very easy from the tain station, however, you have to climb a steep flight of stairs to get to reception. Internet cafe across the street, many amenities right there.

Good choice for budget travelers. The location just around the corner from the train station is perfect to avoid hauling your luggage through the streets of Venice or on and off the crowded water taxis. The hotel faces a main street with lots of restaurants and shops but the rooms are all located well back, around a courtyard, so there's no noise. The rooms are quite small, however, and the bathrooms are somewhat dated though perfectly clean. Breakfast is the continental standard and staff are friendly and helpful.

As I knew from the other reviews, the room was very very small. I had only half of the closet on the picture, thus I had to leave some clothing open in the room which made it even smaller. The bathroom en suite was also one of the smallest I ever saw. The shower was so small, it was nearly impossible to shower without having the wet shower curtain adhering to the legs or the back. Breakfast was very bad, croissants being heated so much that they were brown like coffee beans and fell to crumbs. Coffee was even thinner than my previous personal low-score, a pilgrims hospice kept by nuns in Rome (and nuns coffe is famously bad). With milk it went grey - sign for lots of coffee substitute in it. Buns were kind of industry made rubber as was the cheese. From my experience the food part of the breakfast was quite far below even italian standards. And the beverages were cheap watery (in case of the "juices" sugary) fluids. You should stop to be annoyed about the so-called breakfast and budget a few additional euro daily for a reasonable italian (coffee and brioche/cornetto) style breakfast in the pasticceria 10m to the right on the other side of the street ("Dal Mas", one of the best in whole Venice IMHO, 2€40 for 1 caffè doppio and 1 brioche al banco). I think the ratio of price to benefit is still good, although it could quite easily better (breakfast, shower space). The situation of the hotel is quite good, close to one of the central Vaporetto stations, although it is at the opposite end to the San Marco Sestiere in a not that spectacular part of the city. Get a several-day tourists pass for the ship-lines and try to catch a line throug Canale Grande. Over all I still recommend the hotel, but you should know those restrictions.

The only problem was the a/c. It wasn't as good as it would have been here in US and as it was in Florence. Otherwise, we had a great stay there. Nice, room, excellent location near the train station, a "taxi" stop, shops, internet side just downstairs (which was good for me to keep up on what was going wrong at home!). Would definitely return here.
