For $430 a night our room was terribly cramped & the twin beds were ridiculously close to each other. We did have a view of a side canal through our one small window. The room was extremely dark & dreary as well. Elevator miniscule. Staff were well-informed, helpful & respectful--especially Alvinse. Breakfast in the garden was very nice.

I stay at many of this chain's hotels including the Albani in Florence (annually), this hotel is different, very ornamental designer public areas. If you go to Venice for the first time and want Venice art surroundings then stay somewhere else, if you want an over the top experience then stay here, the food is fantastic but you should make the reservations before you arrive. My son was with me and he classified the "overly decorated hallways - "like a visit to the castel of Count Dragula" -- at least in his imagination. My room was quiet, spacious for Venice -smallish bathroom - well designed and a very comfortable bed, luxury linens. The breakfast is very good and the service is superior - tue Italian hospitality and helpfulness.

The Metropole is the best. It is quirky and luxurious. The service is top notch and almost invisible. We stayed in a junior suite and it was very roomy. It was the best bed we had in all of Italy. I loved the room so much, I had to force myself to get out and explore Venice. I would have been content to lounge in the room! It is a bit pricey, but so is everything else in Venice. We felt it was worth the money.

Great location, easy walking distance to everything, room checked twice daily and towels/linen changed daily! Very old fashioned but also unique and beautiful even for us who like contemporary. Amazing to observe staff ironing table cloths on tables for evening meals. Had quiet room at back overlooking garden as requested. Antique furniture mightn't suit everyone and bathroom lighting not great but we've yet to stay in a hotel which had satisfactory bathroom lighting. Arsenale bus stop 2 minutes away for 12 Euro airport connection. Don't eat in places overlooking lagoon-very expensive. Seek out back street restaurants where locals frequent and food is half the price and twice the quality.

The Metropole was a lovely hotel it was full of character and very impressive. It was very close to St Marc's square and amenities. The staff where very helpful and the breakfast was delicous in a wonderful breakfast room, it was ideal to start long day ahead. I would definately recommend friends and family to stay at the Metrople.

The bed was the most comfortable we have ever enjoyed away from home. We stayed 4 nights in Venice and look forward to returning. The lighting in the bedroom was dim to read by and there was only one, news, channel in English - plenty of German and no music which would have been an international option. Those are the only two"faults" I can think of. The breakfast was very fine. The staff were very good indeed.

After a rough start to our trip (Avoid Air France, they are awful) we arrived via train in Venice. We followed the hotels directions and got on the vaparetto, better known as a cattle car,(DON'T DO THIS)and then walked about two blocks, luggage in tow, to the Metropole. The first comment from the desk clerk was to let us know that Venice is a special and expensive city and you have to spend money so you should always take a taxi. My suggestion to put this on their web site seemed funny to them. It was hard for us to find the humor. The mood changed when we got to our room. It was by far the largest we had seen in Italy with a bathroom to die for and a outside deck that overlooked the Harbor. It was a 10 plus. The breakfasts we outstanding with excellent and friendly service. Our only complaint was when the housekeeper left a window open and we returned that night to a small swarm of mosquito buzzing in the room. I would highly recommend this property to anyone.

15 days before arriving, I send an e-mail to ask the hotel to make a reservation at La Fenice. I got no answer whatsoever! And the service in the restaurant was too slow and the food didn't deserve a* au Michelin. It was our 5th time in Veniceand the last time! Too many groups!!!

The hotel is slightly quirky - displays, candles etc but we loved it! Excellent location very close to San Marco and convenient for the waterbuses. Our room was at the top, with a terrace and a good view of the lagoon. Very good quality breakfast with very good service. We ate in the hotel once - it has a Michelin star and the food was excellent, reasonable prices and superb service. We also ate in Al Conte Pescaor near San Marco which was excellent.

The hotel has a 19th C feel in the good sense and you should mention the fabulous collection of antique objets in the etageres throughout. Also the hotel has its own water landing for taxis. The interior garden restaurant-cafe is a quiet spot for lunch.

Upon check in, we were provided a room which was nothing like photos portrayed on the site. The room was so small, you had to thread on narrow paths to get from the bed to the washroom. We later highlighted this point and with no questions asked, we were provided a much bigger room. It wasn't perfect but we felt it matched the price we were paying for. Generally, the hotel is alright but if they operate on the principle of assigning small rooms till the guests complains, then the policy should be relooked into. For us, it set a negative impression from start and we will likely not return to it. The receptionist had also recommended we hop on the daily and hourly complimentary boat ride to Murano Island to visit the Glass factory. We waited a few times but gave up as it was late several times. Finally we decided to wait for it one day and the receptionist finally mentions that its only upon request and they were not requesting for any that day. AHH! We decided not to bother anymore as information seemed to be misleading again.

I want to learn Italian now!! The room was out of this world. I could not believe it when I walked in with all the cherubs!! I couldn't stop laughing. The bathroom was beautiful. The hotel has a beautiful garden area to have drinks at. I did not like the hotel rooms. The rooms are old antiqueish looking rooms, this just is not my style. However, having said that the bed was comfortable and the bathrooms were very clean. The breakfast was good. I wish I had tried the restaurant because the menu looked delicious. They offer a shuttle to the island of Murano which is great.

Beautiful hotel in a beautiful location. We had a room with a lagoon view, and it was worth it; we spent time just gazing out of the window, after we had adjusted to the opulence of the room. It was within walking distance of St Mark's Square and the vaporetto stop was just a pace away. Lots of different travellers staying here. Recommended.

Our trip to Venice was a 60th birthday present for my father and one that none of us will ever forget - for all the right reasons. First class hotel, well looked after, in a fantastic location. The hotel is one of a kind displaying an incredible range of antiques and collectables that can only be gathered over decades. The hotel garden was an added bonus and a spectacular setting for a pre-dinner drink by candlelight. The 16 course banquet comes highly recommended, a once in a lifetime chance to try such delights as fois gras ice cream served with red wine sauce and caviar served on vodka jelly!!

My husband and I stayed at Metropole as per a recommendation from my parents. The hotel staff was exceptionally accommodating. Each of the rooms is decorated in its own aesthetic, which made the experience feel unique, like a small B&B (as opposed to a larger chain hotel stay). The breakfast included was more than adequate (if you're used to European breakfasts). Metropole is very close to piazza San Marco; walking distance to the Rialto Bridge. With that proximity convenience come loads of tourists. My husband and I walked long and far to see "real" Venice -- where real Venetians live and eat, rather than experiencing the Orlando-esque masses of white sneaker wearing tourists. But, if you're looking to sightsee the attractions, Metropole is a terrific location.

Our stay at the Metropole was terrific in every way. The hotel room was large, much larger than expected, and the hotel location was very near a ferry stop (couple bridges over) and very close to the San Marco square where much of the action is. The hotel staff were polite and helpful. As a gay couple, we didn't feel uncomfortable at all. I highly recommend this hotel.

The Metropole is a great choice for a stay in Venice. It is located within easy walking distance of the Basilica San Marco, the Arsonale and is convenient to vaporetto stops. The hotel staff was very helpful and courteous. Our room was on the third floor--very quiet, decorated beautifully and overlooked a side canal. We took advantage of their water taxi service from the airport since this was our first trip to Venice. While it was expensive (180 euros),the Metropole has its own private dock entrance and it was a treat to step off the boat directly into the hotel. The restaurant was lovely and was obviously a favorite choice for some Venetians. Be sure to re-confirm your reservation directly with the hotel; when we e-mailed them before our trip with a couple of questions, they couldn't locate our reservation at first--finally found it & all was fine. We would definitely choose the Metropole again.

Just returned from 2 nights at the Metropole Venezia (Sept. 2005). Wonderful, stylish hotel, lovely location convenient to Piazza San Marco but away from the noisy crowds. Our room was on the back side of the hotel but beautifully furnished, comfortably spacious and perfectly clean & well maintained. Hotel staff were uniformly cordial, helpful and promptly responsive to all our requests. We dined at the Metropole restaurant our first night. Excellent food & service with an atypical twist on Venetian cuisine. Food was beautifully prepared, served in slow courses as it should be; not the rushed "tourist" service sometimes found in Venitian restaurants. However, the menu is for those with a sophisticated palette who enjoy nouvelle cuisine. We felt it was rather expensive with a three course dinner for two and a mid-priced bottle of wine around 300 Euro. Well worth it for a special experience with a menu sure to intrigue. We wholeheartedly recommend a stay at the Metropole Venezia and hope to stay there again ourselves!

This hotel was indeed a lucky find. Close enough to San Marco Plaza yet not noisy or so busy that it was unpleasant. The interior of the lobby with its Venitian-Gothic touches and dark colors was like a soothing oasis when you needed to escape the sun and high temperatures we experienced during our stay. We had two of the newly refurbished rooms and they were so comfortable with great bathrooms and a view of the canal. This was such good value that we would like to return in winter.

I was initially impressed with the hotel. The decor was fantastic. It is in a perfect location. My only disappointment was the room. The pictures and info on the web suggested they all had plasma screen TV's and all the pictures were of lovely rooms. Our room was a little small. Dark and gloomy. The TV was an old portable. There was also a shocking bed spread. Thankfully that was changed!! Overall our stay was great. Staff were excellent.

Our staying at Hotel Metropole in Venice was great. I can not say completely excellent due to a not perfect organization in managing the breakfast (I suppose that cause of the bad weather all guests in hotel woke-up late and had to queue to have the table eady). Outstanding hotel in perfect location, facing the lagoon and steps from St. Mark's grand square. We had two rooms at the end of a hall, both behind a separate locking door so we were able to move freely between rooms without entering a public area. Master double was huge and very nicely decorated; double doors opened onto the courtyard on one side; opporite side large windows opened on the side canal; very Venezia! 2nd bedroom was large with large courtyard windows. bathrooms were both excellent, modern with shower/tolet area separated from the balance of the bathroom by glass walls. The bar is charming and bar staff was extremely helpful with 'real' (non-touristy) restaurant recommendations. An outstanding hotel experience!

This was our third trip to Italy and we have stayed in a variety of lodgings. I would say that this was very good for an Itallian hotel, but it was outstanding on even the pickiest standards. We travel a lot and this hotel reminds us of some of the boutique hotels we stay at in Los Angeles or Paris. The public rooms are decorated in an elegant old world style and filled with antiques. The rooms were spacious, clean bathrooms with nice quality bath amenities. We had a great view of the lagoon from our room. The restaurant menu looked great, but we didn't eat there as we travelled with our kids and it was a little pricey. Breakfast was included and was very nice. Lots of variety, and beautifully presented. We look forward to staying here again and recommend it to our friends.

I loved the hotel - it was even better than my expectations. All of the staff was friendly and welcoming. The airline lose my luggage and the staff was excellent in helping coordinate it's location and delivery. Food was wonderful and location couldn't have been better.

This property was excellent in every way. My wife had a medical problem at 10 pm one evening and when asked at the desk, they had a doctor in our room in 15 minutes. The genuine concern of the general manager for her welfare was heart warming. Further more the hotel offers superior service at the desk, maid service, dining room and room service. We have nothing but superlatives for the Metropole Hotel!

Be careful when booking this hotel, the photograps of the rooms advertised comprise only 9 of 70 rooms. Even though we specifically booked one of those rooms, we were told on arroival it was not available. We were shown 5 other rooms as possible replacements which were possibly the worst rooms in a hotel I have ever seen. It took 1 hour at reception and a long conversation with the manager to get one of the 9 refurbished rooms. After that the hotel stay was fine. If you do book this hotel make sure you specify a room on the 4th floor, and don't leave it open like I did as a 'refurbished, contemporary' room!

Nice hotel. Room was a single, and the size of a single. Nice, clean, view of the canal out the window. Great location, easy access to all interesting sites, water buses, etc. great staff at the front desk, helpful. Really liked all the art pieces scattered around the hotel in the hallways. Great breakfast, lots of variety, and good quality.

We wanted to love this hotel and did on the outside. The service was unnecessarily snobbish and difficult - we live in the NY area and have stayed at some of the top boutique hotels in NY and have never experienced this kind of attitude. We are not hicks either. They messed up our reservations for a tour by giving the wrong name - making us run back to the hotel (no easy feat) so we could find out exactly what name they put us under. It just had a strange vibe. The room itself was decarated nicely - the bathroom was like a sauna due to it's heated floors and we had to ask them to turn it down. ALso the bed was uncomfortable - two twins pushed together like a king but made individually which was ackward. We complained and they said they would give us a King bed - we come back and all they did was pull the sheet over both beds. The room had a chandelier in the center of it which jingled and shook everytime there were footsteps above. Of which there was alot we think there may have been some sort of room service station above us that was the source of constant stomping and bottles being tossed around. Metropole was beautiful on the outside - just lacked a certain warmth and character.

The Hotel is a triumph of form over function. It looks beautiful, and the staff prepared the room exactly as I requested. However, a number of minor issues means I will never stay there again, to whit: The room was very dimly lit. It looked lovely and moody, but trying to read a book was almost impossible. The 42 inch Plasma TV was great, but gave off as much heat as a small fire. Couple this with the fact that the air conditioning refused to work, and we had a choice between sweating to death, or freezing in icy blasts if we opened the door to the balcony. Hardly any natural light - the only window was a double glazed door to the balcony - this kind of restriction should be mentioned when you book. No dressing table, sideboard or usuable mirror for female makeup - this one, worsened by the poor lighting, had my partner cursing. No shower curtain - the bathroom looked lovely, but every time I took a shower the floor ended up swimming in water. Reclining chairs - great, at first glance, until you found that ANY pressure applied to the back of the chair resulted in a swift and violent recline. Basically, they had one position - fully back! Hotel Lounge - looks fabulous, and a bit reminiscent of the casbah in furnishing. Try finding a seat, however, and you are out of luck. Far too much space is given over to unusable furnishings, leaving space for only about 12 guests to sit in comfort So, in summary, first impressions were superb, but by the end of the stay we were determined never to return. Finally, why is it that the top hotels never supply coffee making facilities in the rooms? I suppose they expect their guests to be rich enough to have no problem with a 20 Euro charge for 2 cups of coffee delivered to the room. My advice? Buy a travel kettle, like we did!

Myself and my partner spent a very special 2 days in venice, it was our first time and we have fallen in love with the place. The hotel metropole was very well located, the room was very nice, clean and had a nice view down a small canal and out onto the lagoon. On the whole the staff were excellent, we did have a problem with one member of staff, but to the hotels credit they dealt with that problem very quickly. The food both at breakfast and in the restaraunt was very good and on my partners birthday the hotel gave us a special champagne breakfast which was a very nice surprise. Both myself and my partner travel worldwide as part of our occupations and therefore stay in alot of different hotels. We can say that Overall we were very happy with the hotel and its staff and when we return to Venice later in the year we will be choosing the hotel Metropole once again.

We were impressed with the hotel from the moment we were dropped off by water taxi. It was even better than we expected. The front desk people couldn't have been more helpful. The rooms were all different and each more beautiful than the one before. Very expensively furnished with antiques. We can't wait to return. The breakfast buffet was delicous. The snacks at the bar were great, oysters, procuitto and salami. The dinner was very gourmet and beautifully plated as well as delicous.

Beautiful hotel very close to P. San Marco. Laguna view rooms had fabulous views. 319 has front and side windows, but the rooftop view from 409 is hard to beat. Well appointed bathrooms, especially for Venice. Helpful and reasonably polite staff (with the exception of the lady running the breakfast, but it WAS 730AM). Somewhat expensive, but expected and acceptable for such a property.

An hotel of great class, cured also in the little particular, where Vivaldi wrote his immortal concertos. The location is superb. Each room has different furniture. The owners are collectionists of ancient objects and expose them in the hall. The bar and the salon are very elegant and intimate. The atmosphere is unique and very quiet.

We really enjoyed Metropole hotel. All facilities excellent. Only 2 negatives: 1) the heat! the thermostat might have been broken at the hotel overall. For our first 1.5 days, it was sweltering in our room, and all over the hotel 2) the rooms aren't as soundproof as we would have liked. We heard the people in the room next to ours very clearly. (all night). Additionally, they starting doing repair work (maybe on the heat?) very early in the morning, which woke us up. Otherwise - we really enjoyed our stay. Wonderful location... we loved our room view of the canal. Would recommend to others.

Positive: Metropole was close to the San Zaccaria vaporetto stop which was appealing to me. It's close enough to San Marco Square. The rooms were clean. The Staff was friendly and helpful and understood english. The daily breakfast that comes with the price of the room was a good value. There was plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, yogurt and mozzarella. There's plenty of people walking past the hotel. I loved the benches that Metropole has outside the front of the hotel. We had a room(139)that overlooked a courtyard below. I thought that was a good thing but read on. Negative: I prepared for crisp cool Autumn weather, I checked Venice weather before our visit. It was an average of 65F but the humidity was 100%,so I was uncomfortable even with light layering of clothes. Metropole didn't or couldn't let us turn on air conditioning in our room. Even just a fan to circulate the thick humid air in the room would've been good. We ended up opening the windows for comfort only to have the mosquitos come in from the courtyard. The bathroom floor had a heated marble floor (either that or we were on top of the boiler room). I never got a clear answer as to why the rooms were so hot. My suggestion for this hotel is to get window screens and ceiling fans. While we were there there was a vaporreto strike for one day. Don't try yo walk too far because you will get lost in parts of Castello that are not on the tourist maps. Ask the hotel consierge for a good map that shows all of Venice and use a pocket compass. We also had the vaporetto system shut down again for the Venice Marathon that went past the Metropole.

We stayed here as part of our wedding in Venice...a beautiful hotel, we'll worth it's cost for the area. We enjoyed the "Like a King" special and being upgraded to a Suite. Breakfast buffet was a bonus, but could have offered more of a variety day to day. Most all of the staff was very friendly and accomodating, especially the bell hop Steven, Alex and the owner who were very nice. There were times however that the front reception and night restaurant host were somewhat pretencious. But overall a great stay and a great hotel, great location, minutes from San Marco square by foot! Very cozy and romantic atmosphere.

Price was quite reasonable for the time of such a busy season. I ordered a lagoon view room listed in this site. The room they offered was beyond my expectation. It was on the top floor, quite spacious and has a 180 degree view of lagoon from a balcony. A person at front desk mentioned that this room was renovated in last 6 months and only room which has such a magnificient view. Interior is modernized that is different from the other rooms which are said to be old venezian styles. We really enjoyed a stay here. I strongly recommend anybody to select this room unless you love a classic style room.

Metropole is a very nice and wonderful hotel. Very romantic, and the relashionship between price and quality is good. I think it is one of the most typical and romantic hotel in Venice. The only thing I would liked to know is the room of celebrity who came before : Freud, Verdi, Proust...

I would highly recommend the Metropole Hotel. We took advantage of the internet promotion and we had a free upgrade to a junior suite. The room was just fabulous. The staff were very welcoming and friendly, upon arrival we received a free bottle of sparkling wine from the hotel manager (it was our wedding anniversary) and this certainly went down a treat! The Hotel is kept to a very high standard and the location is good too. I would definately stay in the Metropole if I ever get another chance to visit Venice again.

Hotel Metropole is a simply wonderful hotel. We stayed in a room on the side canal which had a balcony. It was just lovely. The hotel is classy inside and out. It's convenience of having it's own dock is very important. (The expensive water taxi costs you a lot more but saves you at lease 90 minutes in getting checked in and out seeing the sights.) We made the mistake of not taking it. Metropole is also very convenient to the main sights of Venice and not a real long walk to the Rialto Bridge area. Also take a water taxi around the whole grand canal and back - expensive but you have to see it all! Metropole is highly recommended....a class act all the way.
