Don't know about other rooms but the top floor rooms were not nice - at all. Had three rooms up there and each one was in need of a lot of work. Tiny showers and no views out of any window. I definitely found out the difference between a two star and a three star hotel. The area around the hotel was nice and very centrally located.

This was my fifth visit to Venice, and by far Hotel Mercurio was the best place I've stayed in all respects---excellent location a couple minutes walk to St Mark's. Easy to get to from Calle Vallarosso vaporetto stop (about 5 to 7 minutes). So you can easily get there via vaporetto down the Grand Canal or using the Alilaguna airport ferry. The hotel is located near the high-end shopping district. We had a 3-person room on the first floor overlooking the canal with lots of gondola traffic. Room was very clean and spacious with new, clean, LARGE bathroom. Room was furnished in Venetian style with fireplace and beautiful chandelier and nice furniture. Gonoliers sang outside our window. Only drawback was that since we were on the first floor, it was a little bit loud. But it actually added to the charm! Some of the regular double rooms looked a little less spacious though, but if you can get a 3-person room or a superior double, you should be fine. Loved the canal view. Breakfast was average, but adequate. Overall, loved this place! So convenient, cheap, clean, and close to St Mark's! The lady in charge went out of her way to make sure we were satisfied with our room.

Very pleased we spent more for a canal view with a balcony-had 40-50 gondolas passed by in 2 hours- really felt in Venice! Room was small but clean and comfortable, and the hotel was less than 5 minutes from St. Marks Square. Monica, the manager, was very helpful,and@150 euros/nite the room was excellent value for Venice.

Monica and Dario were tremendous helps and very, very friendly. Monica gave us a recommendation of a place to eat and I would say it ranked right up there with the best meals we had in Italy. If we were ever to return to Venice Hotel Mercurio would be the only place we would stay. We were booked in room 25 and it overlooked a canal and when we opened the windows we were greeted by the sounds of singing gondoliers. We only stayed for 2 days but could enjoy a longer stay with no problem. Again I would like to commend both Monica and Dario to the owners of the hotel, they are superb representatives.

This was a convenient, affordable very pleasant place to stay. Breakfast was very nice, great coffee. The multilingual desk staff were consistently cheerful and accommodating. This is not a fancy place -- building is old, but that's part of its charm. Rooms are not luxurious, but are attractive, clean, secure, and comfortable. That's all you need; Venice is not the kind of place you go to hang out in your hotel room all day! Our triple family room had a beautiful canal view and was unusually spacious by European standards. Be aware that having a window on a canal means hearing the noise of late-night revelers below (this will be true at any hotel you choose). There wasn't too much of that when we were there in mid-April, but I woke up to canal noise one night -- and Venice can be a much noisier town in the tourist-packed summer months. For us, noise level was acceptable and the picturesque view from our two large windows was definitely worth it. There's a steep staircase from the hotel entrance to the lobby -- our 5-year-old was able to handle it fine, but toddlers or elderly might find it aggravating to have to navigate steep stairs multiple times a day. All hotels in Venice are pricey, but compared to what else was available, this was a good value for the money. In my experience, spacious and affordable family rooms are hard to come by, and this one was very comfortable! Location couldn't be beat. Easy walk to Rialto and Piazza San Marco. Lots of great food and little shops nearby. When we return to Venice. I will happily stay at Mercurio again.

My husband and I were delighted with the hotel. Despite the fact that the room was small we had a wonderful view over a canal and it was in close proximity to St Mark's, the opera house and Rialto. Monica, the receptionist, could not have been more helpful - she spoke good English and was happy to help with advice on where to go for concerts to the best way to get to the airport. We thought it was excellent value for money. Our only minor complaint was that it was impossible to see how to reach the hotel as the map is so tiny. I think a simple explanation on how to reach the hotel from the water bus stop would be helpful.

A delightful hotel, in a brilliant location, at a very reasonable price. We were able to leave our bags after checkout, which made the rest of that day much more agreeable. Breakfast area tiny, but not a problem. The website details were extremely helpful, but didn't mention the (much cheaper) Alilaguna service from Marco Polo airport to San Marco.

We arrived on a dark and rainy night at the Marco Polo airport and took the water bus across the lagoon to the landing near Piazza San Marco. Trudging with our rolling luggage through the narrow streets in the rain and the dark, we followed the directions sent by the hotel hoping to find our destination. The instructions were perfect and we soon were standing under the small lighted sign of the Mercurio Hotel. The staff was very welcoming and helpful and we were soon settled into a lovely spacious room drying off and dropping thankfully onto comfortable beds. We received excellent suggestions about local restaurants and sites to see. The hotel was our base for the next 3 days as we enjoyed as much as possible the many wonderful sights and sounds of Venice. The hotel breakfast was ample to keep us going through a morning of sightseeing. We have recommended the Mercurio to our friends and they were equally delighted to stay there. The hotel is well situated, about a 5 minute walk from Piazza San Marco. Should we ever have the chance to return to Venice, we would most likely return to this lovely hotel for our stay.

The location is great, really close to San Marco and Ponte di Rialto. Everything was OK except that they offered us a room without the canal view (with the lower price), although I booked for one with the view and it was confirmed. So my surprise to my girlfriend was ruined. But anyway it is worth the price and I would recommend to stay. Make sure you have the room with the view when reserving.

The room was basic, but clean. It was a bit noisy. There was construction going on next door. The shower was tiny and the water flow was minimal. The breakfast was fine with fresh breads and fruit. The location is excellent. I had no trouble finding it given the map. Remember to look up for the hotel sign! The desk staff was outstanding! They spoke English and were extremely friendly and helpful. They really helped to make our visit to Venice special and enjoyable. I would recommend the hotel to budget travelers and would stay there again myself.

We experienced a rail strike and requested that the hotel increase or cancel our room so that we would not have to move to Mercurio hotel the next night. He was unable to accommodate our request therefore, we had to find another hotel for one night then move to the Mercurio the next night. We were on the top floor which was four flights of steps with no lift(elevator)but they did carry our luggage up and down for us. We did find the shower very small and the room very hot. But it was clean, low ceiling and they provided twin beds. The location to St. Mark's square was very good.

I traveled with my brother, and both of us loved this place. The location was perfect for sightseeing. Both the day person(Monica)and the evening person (Victorrio) treated us like we were special guests. They spent lots of time with us giving us recommendations for sites to see and places to eat. The room was spacious, and unexpectedly elegantly furnished given the price we were paying. This would be a great place for honeymooners--it is very romantic. This was my favorite hotel by far of the several we stayed at on our first European vacation. One warning: the hotel does have steep stairs, and there is no elevator, so older folks especially might want to ask the hotel personnel for help with their bags.

Monica did a great job of helping my wife and me find the sort of things we enjoy. We saw parts of Venice many miss. Across the canal from our room was a house where Mozart stayed when in Venice for festivities. We ate in trattoria and had a great time. Finding it was easy using Google maps and walking in from the Grand Canal. We wish we'd had more time there.

Spacious and clean enough, but the staff didn't help carry baggage upstairs to the reception, never mind to the room. The best thing about it was the amazing hot chocolate and marble cake at breakfast! We stayed in 3 different places in Italy, and this hotel was definitely the worst value for money, but I suppose Venice is just more expensive than Rome and Pompeii.

Our stay at Hotel Mercurio in Venice was wonderful. It was easy to walk to the hotel from the vaporetto stop at St. Mark's by following the map available at the hotel's website. The location - close to St. Mark's but not so close as to be overrun with tourists - is excellent. Short walks to all the top sites. Our recently renovated room was right above a canal so we could watch the gondolas float by and hear the gondaliers singing. The service could not have been better, the room was comfortable, and the breakfast was ample. I think the hotel was a great value. We would stay there again without hesitation.

My girlfriend and I stayed at Mercurio for a single night. While the location of the hotel is good, the service was terrible. Adequate lodging in Venice for circa 100E off season. 200E high season price seems fairly outrageous, but then this is Venice. The pros: Young lady at reception very forthcoming with useful information re vaporetto schedules, resturants and attractions; breakfast is adequate; location is central but not too close to St. Mark's. The cons: Hotel is virtually impossible to find on the first attempt (many maps call the street on which it's located something else); rooms are very small and cramped, even by European standards; facility has an overall shabby feel to it; there is considerable noise encroachment; breakfast room wait staff is cold and impersonal (in sharp contrast to front desk staff who are uniformly kind and competent).

It was a lovely example of great value if you don't mind one or two minus-points. We chose this B&B as the location & value were great and the negatives mentioned did not worry us(steep stairs, smell from canal in a corridor, some noise - buider upstairs during week days!!!). It was exactly as we expected and we would reccomend it. Guy at reception was great with reccomendation and a breakfast bag for our very early check-out. This was a nice hotel in a good location, given the difficulty of finding places in Venice. The desk workers were great- they recommended restaurants, set up boat transfers, and even prepared a bagged breakfast since we were leaving before the breakfast service started. The rooms were a bit small & noisy as people came up the stairs, but better than we expected in Venice. It was also tiring to hall the luggage upstairs, but we expected this too. We had hoped for a view of the canals, but that side of the building was under construction during our stay. Overall, we were perfectly happy with our night here & would stay there again.

The Mercurio was one of the best hotels we stayed in during our trip, the room was huge. Good location, very helpful staff very secure. Took advice from Venere and printed the map from the Hotel website, there are lots of twists and turns getting there from the ferry drop off. Catch the ferry from the termini to St Mark’s, its quick and no too expensive. Breakfast was simple but great. Its close to St Mark’s Square and about a 30 min to the Pont de Rialto, which has good night markets – stay away from the shops on the Pont however. Hotel internet was down the entire time and internet café’s are rare. This seemed to be a problem right across northern Italy at the time. The manager was quirky and brilliant. The advice given was excellent and reliable. Great restaurants in the area, stay away from anything that has a view of a tourist site, water, an attraction or anything of significance, as much as you can find a local, go where they go. The Venice Theatre is just around the corner so check out there shows there – early. If you’re hunting for Venetian glass, its hard to go past the shop immediately downstairs. Very happy to stay there again.

Get off at the Valaresso vaporetto stop and it's about a 10min walk from there. Relatively easy to find, this place is pretty much a gem and probably the best hotel we stayed in while holidaying in Italy. The room was adequately heated to the point of it being too warm sometimes, so had to open the windows to let in some of the cold. Breakfast was a somewhat large spread of breakfast breads (croissants, buns), fresh fruits, fruit salad, 3 types of cereals, juice, yogurt and choice of hot drink. The hot chocolate is GOOD! Location wise, it's about a 8min walk to St. Mark's, 15min walk to Rialto Bridge and there's lots of shopping all round. All in, our stay at the Mecurio was a good experience. Only hitch is that there are no elevators, so if you've got heavy bags like we had, ask for a low level room..

Hotel Mercurio was a great place to stay in Venice and for the price, it is unbeatable! We had a triple room on the top floor. It was very spacious and super clean. The bathroom had all new fixtures and was also very clean. The vaulted ceilings in the room had old exposed beams which added to the atmosphere. The staff were friendly and helpful. They recommended the restaurant next door which looked and smelled wonderful, but was unfortunately closed for a private party the night we wanted to go. The hotel was a little difficult to find - as are many things in the twisted, narrow alleyways of Venice. But it was actually in a wonderful location: a very short walk to all the main sights and lots of good shopping and restaurants in the vicinity of the hotel. It is a small hotel with a fairly steep set of staircases - so probably not the best for anyone with difficulty climbing stairs. Breakfast was just the average Italian fare - great coffee, bread, cereal, yogurt, fruit, etc.

The hotel is located very well - you have all the important points within a few minutes walk and also the vaporetto is not too far away.

This is the second time I have stayed here and the hotel is exactly what I expected. It does not have any more pretensions than simply being a comfy home base for exploring Venice. You are in the middle of everything and easy to walk to anywhere in the city. The largest bonus is the staff; the wonderful people at the front desk really care about your stay. That is amazing considering the number of travelers they see. Their recommendations for restaurants were right on the mark. Only missing element would be a lift for the luggage. After crossing a bridge or two a flight of stairs is not quite so daunting.

We stayed in this hotel for two nights, found the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful and it's also located conveniently a few minutes away to St. Mark Basilica, the room that we had didn't have canal view but was clean and with huge bathroom.

Nice hotel, conveniently located in the centre of town with helpful welcoming staff. Our room was small, no room to do anything but sleep but hey who wants to spend time in a hotel room in a town like this? Free taxi ride to the glass factory is worth taking if you can put up with the pressure from the salesman when you get there.

Staff were all welcoming polite helpful and gracious. My only concern was the state of the bathroom shower which was quite low in height and water ran down the rotting wooden beam which was a little offputting, but the water was always nice and hot

This hotel is a gem! We were a few minutes away from St Mark's, water bus, etc. When we got off the water bus stop and started walking to our hotel, instantly we were walking next to Gucci, Prada, Valentino shops; so you know what kind of neighborhood you're in! The people in the hotel are helpful and speak well. And the price for this location is excellent. The rooms themselves are normal for Venice and are clean. I would come back for sure!

Wonderful staff, the rooms are suprisingly large and spacious for seemingly crammed Venice. The breakfast was a great surprise.

Make sure you have directions to the hotel or it will take you a while to find it because maps are not much help in Venice. We forgot to print directions to the hotel from the website but we eventually found the hotel and checked in. There is no elevator, but the guy at the front desk carried my bag to our room which was on the top floor. The room and the bathroom were small, but equivalent to what I believe you would get at another hotel in the area in the same price range. We had scaffolding outside our window, but I had read about this in other reviews so that wasn't a big deal. Also, we didn't know there were rooms with canal views so we weren't disappointed not to get one of those. I think there was a heat wave while we were in Venice and I found the air-conditioning in the room worked quite well. The bed was extremely hard and uncomfortable at first, but we slept fine on it. The breakfast was nice, with a different bread, fruit and cereal every day. We got our own pot of coffee freshly brewed for us along with steamed milk which I really enjoyed. For supper we got recommendations from the front desk and we thought both places had excellent food and were reasonably priced. The front desk staff was also very helpful when we needed directions and the waterbus schedule. The best part of this hotel was definitely the location. It was only a short walk to both St. Marks and the Rialto Bridge. It was nice to be convenient to the hotel whenever we needed a rest or wanted to unload the items we had purchased. We chose this hotel because of the location and the price, and we were very satisfied with our choice.

First, locatiom - great, just 2 minutes or less from San Marco square, Vaporeto service and other beatifull places in Venice. Second, great service, nice and simple breakfest, clean room, very elegant and with nice decoration - traditional antique decoration. Room was sufficient with space, shower - not big but ok with strong hot water stream. Very good choice for good price

No problem for me. But i think, that rooms with no windows must be qoted in your presentation. For us, it's not a problem, but for some people it will be !

The hotel is beautiful. It is very closed to a lots of Venice's attractions. The quality of service provided was excellent as the compentence of the employees and their welcoming. Also the clealiness of rooms was very goodd. Excellent experience.

Five minute walk from San Marco square. Both rooms in our reservation were spacious (triple and double). Our shower was tiny, but hey, we were in Venice! Staff english was very good, and conversations improved our enjoyment of the hotel and the city. Air conditioning could have been cooler. Breakfast was good -modest buffet including cereals, breads, fresh fruit and yogurt.

The breakfast of the hotel was one of the best we had in our stay in Italy. The hotel is very close to St Marks square which is i think the most important place to be close to in Venice. It's also even closer (around the corner) of La Fenice Opera house. It was a pleasant stay and very clean.I suggest that when you make your reservation ask for a room with canal view in advance bc they had a few rooms with a view but we couldn't get one bc we hadn't specified the request in our reservation.I think that this hotel should at least be three stars.Overall it was great specially the breakfast and the location and i would stay there again.

It's not very expensive for this town but the room are little, dark and noisy. The hotel is in work: impossible to open its window because of the scaffolding. But it is very very well located (it is its principal asset). But we had evil to find it because there are two “calle del frutariol” in Venice (in the same district in more!). The personnel speaks French very well, which is invaluable when we are French and that we don't speak a word about Italian.

Very friendly and helpful staff. I emailed beforehand and received excellent response. I had seen some feedback indicating the hotel was hard to find but we followed the map on the website and had no trouble. The only slight downside was the scaffolding outside our room where the hotel was being refurbished which meant we could not get a view of the canal.

Hotel was close to Piazza San Marco which is why I selected it to begin with. The front desk people were very nice and helpful. The rooms and especially the showers were extremely small. There was scaffolding outside of the window - no view to speak of. The bed was so hard that I woke up in the middle of the night and thought I was on the floor. I still can't believe the room was $200 a night but I guess that's just what you have to expect in a city like Venice. After all, we were very close to Piazza San Marco.

This is an excellent hotel. The lady who welcome us was very professional and courteous as well as knowlegeable about every question we asked. The room was very spacious and the beds and pillows wer very comfortable. The room and bathroom were very clean. The location could not be better: a couple of steps from Teatro La Fenice. The places the hostess recommended for dinner were actually very good: excellent food and very friendly staff. In addition, breakfast at the hotel had a very convenient schedule and the quality of the breakfat was very good, including fresh fruit and fresh juice. We would highly recommend it.

All was OK except… They didn't say a word that they are making a reconstruction of the hotel. I have wrote to the hotel three times before comingl, even ask for a canal-view room, and the answer was "all is OK". So… no canal view and no any view from the windows at all. All the other was perfect.

The breakfast was excellent. The staff was helpful and pleasant. The hotel was an integral part of a pleasant stay.

It was an excellent place to stay! I read some of the comments about it being hard to find, this is not true. If you go to their official website they have directions and a map. The location was perfect and the staff were very helpfull and spoke perfect english. The room was slightly small but that is just me trying to find something wrong with it. Would definately use them again!!
