It is near san marco but the room is very small. We came late at nite my email indicated to take water bus no 2, and it was wrong we should have taken no 1. So we ended up walk quite far with all the baggages.

Quite expensive especially on week-ends but that's the way it is in Venice ! Hotel very well located near San Marco. Standard room cosy and very clean, rather calm and perfectly in accordance with photos on web page. We spent a very pleasant stay.

Very friendly and helpful staff. For Italian standards the breakfast was good, definately attempting to appeal to the various demands of the Guests. An Egg now and again would have been very welcome. The location in San Marco proved to be very good for our excursiions. I could recommend the Mercurio to any potential Venice visitor who has a limited budget.

I love the Mercurio and I believe this was my 4th stay with them. I have a friend who owns Artigiancarta on Calle Frezzaria, so Mercurio is perfect for a viisit to see my friends, AND you are just steps away from La Fenice. The hotel has one of the best locations in the city of Venezia. Their prices are absolutely incredible during the late weeks in January before Carnevale kicks in. I am a single traveler who loves Venezia and tries to come every six months. A single room is fine, but for my American friends - remember this is Italia, and specifically Venezia. The rooms tend to be small and buildings constructed in the 16th century can be a little noisy if the hotel is full. I use ear plugs and I am just fine. Also note, that like most of Venezia, there is not an elevator. Again, I'm fine with that and pack accordingly. Their breakfast is great and the gals are friendly and make good caffe. Note that the internet connection is not spectacular in the individual rooms, but they have two computer terminals that you may use at your leisure free of charge. I will definitely be back to stay at the Mercurio again! Value for price on this visit just could not be beat. I will remember to travel in late January.

Venice is all about Canals, Gondola's, Shops, Food, and History. You will walk miles every day and not even realise it. This hotel is centrally located and very Venetian - ie it is not a 5 star hotel created in Venice, it is an original old building that has been adapted into a hotel with a nice balance between creating some comforts while not losing its Venetian charm. The staff are all very friendly and helpful as well as speaking good English. A great choice unless you are a 5 star snob - and you wouldn't even read this if you were so this one is a winner. Dont miss La Vaporetta restaurant only 2 mins walk from the hotel - you will love it - google them to find exact address. Cheers AB

The Hotel Mercurio is a very safe and good location only a few minutes walk to St. Marks square and within a maximum 25-30 minutes walking distance to almost all of the major attractions in Venice. We also walked to the train station on the last day from here, which was about 45 minutes. The staff were all excellent and helpful. The breakfast was great. Only negative was our mattress was very poor and ready for the garbage but we liked the hotel and location so did not complain. The bathroom was small but very clean and had a nice hot shower. Our room overlooked a small canal where gondolas come through. At $190 euros a night it was expensive but we found this to be affordable for Venice where all hotels were expensive. Finding the hotel when out walking was always a challenge, as it is on a small side street. I think finding anything in Venice on your first 2 days was always a challenge though. Overall it is definitely a 2 star hotel, maybe a 3 star. I think it was too expensive relative to quality, but priced right relative to location. If I was to travel to Venice again I would stay here again if the price was a little lower. We stayed 3 nights, I would suggest only staying 2 nights in Venice unless you like tons of tourists or plan on exploring further out from venice. We used one day to go see Murano, Burano, and Torcello - which was a nice change from Venice. Note this is not what I would call a romantic bright hotel - it is simply a safe and comfortable stay with a good location, good staff, and good breakfast. Also note there are no elevators here.

Price/quality relationship OK for the usual Venetian tourist exploitation practice, for normal international standards inacceptable: a tiny room, sparcely equipped, minuscule bathroom with need for redecoration, no lift, narrow stairs, a typical lowcost hotel with maximum prices. Situation central, rather far away from public transport. We would not return to this hotel.

Near to San Marco piazza and ferry stop ( San Marco vallaresso). A 5-6 min. Distance ( if not lost of course:)) Hotel room was too small, may be other more large rooms. Our first stay in Venice and owner of the hotel was very helpfull. Location of the hotel is not very near to the canal, at the middle of the street. Our room was at the top of the hotel and looking for a opening between the houses.

This was exactly what we wanted -a budget hotel 5 minutes walk from St Mark's Square. Our room was not as grandiose as those pictured but had one of those chandeliers like a glass caphalopod and was clean with a brilliant shower. The staff helped with various issues, ringing ahead to confirm bookings for us at refugios in the Dolomites. They couldn't have been more obliging and helpful . HAPPY

Context is everything; this is Venice. Rooms are expensive for what you get. The room was very clean, had Murano glass light shades, a small desk and wardrobe. All this for an astronomical price. I found the location problematic because the entrance to the hotel is located in a very narrow alley (less than an umbrella wide) that was always very busy. On the plus side, the staff were wonderful, very helpful and multi-lingual; breakfast was substantial and this hotel is in the heart of the action.

It's located 300mt from Piazza San Marco. Check in was quick, my room was on the third floor and there's a good deal of stairs to climb so be young and fit. The room was perfect, it was recently renowed, with one single bed, enough lighting fixtures, flat screen tv, a little balcony, private bathroom with shower, toilet, hair blower etc...and......air conditioned! It wasn't obviously on at the time I stayed but it would have been if it was summer, it's quite a bonus in Venice. Breakfast was a small but satisfying buffet of salty (salami, bologna, cheese, soft cheese, bread) and sweet (pastries, cakes, cereals, jam, butter, honey, chocolate cream, yogurt...) items. Accompanied by a hot drink. The staff is cool, very kind, I really appreciated all of them. Also the hotel is open 24 hours per day, no curfew. So a recently renewed single room with new furniture, private bathroom, air conditioned, immaculate cleaning, a good breakfast, close to San Marco costed me 45 euros one night, 55 euros the other. It's the best ever, no other place in Venice would give me a decent breakfast for that price, most will just offer a sad, carb loaded, sugar loaded, totally unhealthy pastry and that's all. This place was a great choice, I'll be back next time.

I spent 3 nights in this hotel, the breakfast was poor (one type of bread and one type of creme cheese, etc). The location is really perfect, the hotel is close to touristic areas. However, Room 52 was extremely small and right across the breakfast room, and the blankets were not clean. Safe deposit in every room is an asset.

The Mercurio is expensive for what you get...but that is Venice and Venice is amazing. Our room was right over the canal with singing gondoliers etc. The room was very compact and the bathroom was lined in some areas with black mold. Breakfast was above average for Italy and assistance at the desk was always friendly & willingly offered.

The room was funky, but I think everything in Venice must be unless you are in a luxury hotel. That said, it was perfectly nice. The woman at the front desk was very nice and totally professional, knowledgable, etc. The breakfast was a bit better than other B&Bs I stayed in in Italy because it included a bowl of canned pineapple and peach slices. It is confusing to get there, don't try to walk from the train station as I did. I made it, but it was tricky and a long walk lugging a suitcase. Taking the vaporetto, you'll stlll have a confusing walk from the San Marco vaporetto stop which makes the location a bit less desirable, especially if walking a good distance with your luggage is a problem for you. Also, I never once made it back to the hotel without getting seriously lost, but that's just the way it is in Venice. I didn't mind because I'm a walker anyway and it was an adventure for me. If that is going to bother you, definitely try to choose a hotel close to a major site you can use as a landmark. I paid 10 euro extra for a "Superior Canal View" room and I don't recommend it. It isn't the Grand Canal, just a minor canal, so not particularly charming, and it is noisy. You are right over a bridge that gets a fair amount of (walking) traffic into the night and the water taxis make a racket when they go by. P.S. On my way out of Venice, the town was flooded and it was raining, and it would have been a complete disaster if not for two things: my suitcase converts to a backpack, and I had waterproof boots. The water was over my ankles and it would have been truly miserable if not for the backpack suitcase and the boots. Venice floods regularly at all times of year, so have a plan for that. (They sell high water boots everywhere.)

Hotel Mercurio is located only a few minutes walk both from St. Marcus sq and Rialto bridge: perfect! We had two rooms, the double was very small but nicely decorated, the trippel room was much more spacious with a view of the canal. Venice is a very compact city and you can not expect rooms to be absolutely quiet: some noice both from the canal and the passing, narrow street. Clean rooms with good aircondition. Breakfast was simpel, but the coffee fantastic. Friendly staff.

The Mercurio is located in the very centre of Venice; a 5 minutes´ walk takes you either to the Rialto bridge or the basilica of St Mark. The staff is charming and helpful, the lady at the reception recommended one of the best pastry shops in town, very close at the Campo San Luca: excellent caffe e dolci. Our room was 100% what we had asked for online: very quiet with twin beds. Everything was very clean and the price is absolutely reasonable. We took a tour of the opera house La Fenice, which is just around the corner, and sat in Napoleon´s private booth listening to a rehearsal. Wonderful!

We spent Christmas and the first two days of the New Year with Monica and Natale at the Mercurio. It is convenient to San Marco, Rialto, Accademia, and the Vaporettos that go everywhere else. Room 23 was clean, spacious, overlooked a canal, a bridge, Mozart's house, and was very reasonably priced. We had very good meals at Anenimo Veneziano located adjacent to the hotel and Gam-Gam at the entrance to the Jewish Ghetto. Thanks again to Monica for advice on where to go and what to see and for talking us out of going to a main land hotel our last night and instead leaving early the next morning by water taxi (worth the price). Thanks to Natale for supplying boots for us New Year's night so we could go to San Marco despite the acqua alta; and for brewing coffee and providing an escort to the water taxi in the early morning the day of our departure. We are looking forward to our next trip to Venice and also our next stay at the Mercurio.

Hotel Mercurio was just what we needed. The price was very reasonaable for Venice and not 5 minutes from San Marco square. Easy to find from the water taxi stop, although the tourist info office at the train station gave me directions. Monica at the desk was incredibly helpful - recommended an area and website for an agritourismo in Tuscany! Room is little more than a bed and a shower. You can hear every step down the street, but I think that is everywhere in Venice. Tons of street vendors trying to sell you roses...get's a little aggrivating...don't let them put one in your hand!

I would definately stay again if I come back to Venice and would thoroughly recommend. Location was pefect. Our canal view room was a real treat. The neighbourhood is lovely - lots of good shops and restaurants nearby. The morning coffee was the best I had in Venice. The only small thing I wasn't quite sure about were the bread rolls served at breakfast - looked like flat croissants - tasted like cardboard. Plenty of other things to choose from at the breakfast buffet however so quite easily avoided.

This hotel did what it said on the box.Excellant value for money, with nothing sacrificed.Minutes from St.Marks Square, and from the alilaguna drop off spot(airport water taxi). We arrived late and were greated by a friendly and accomadaing chap. The room, although small, was perfect. It was cleaned every day,air conditioned, comfy bed,and very well kept.No complaints.Breakfast was lovely.Fresh breads and pastries, cereals and drinks.Different choices daily. It met our requirments and then some.Check out reviews on Trip advisor, this is where I checked on its popularity, and although I found other hotels that seemed good value for money, they scored low on this site. This hotel got 5 green dots by pretty much everybody, which sold it to me, and it was as good as other people said it was.If you have any doubts, don't.Great hotel, excellant value and location, and great staff made our trip to Venice supurb. We will certainly use this hotel again.

Don't know about other rooms but the top floor rooms were not nice - at all. Had three rooms up there and each one was in need of a lot of work. Tiny showers and no views out of any window. I definitely found out the difference between a two star and a three star hotel. The area around the hotel was nice and very centrally located.

This was my fifth visit to Venice, and by far Hotel Mercurio was the best place I've stayed in all respects---excellent location a couple minutes walk to St Mark's. Easy to get to from Calle Vallarosso vaporetto stop (about 5 to 7 minutes). So you can easily get there via vaporetto down the Grand Canal or using the Alilaguna airport ferry. The hotel is located near the high-end shopping district. We had a 3-person room on the first floor overlooking the canal with lots of gondola traffic. Room was very clean and spacious with new, clean, LARGE bathroom. Room was furnished in Venetian style with fireplace and beautiful chandelier and nice furniture. Gonoliers sang outside our window. Only drawback was that since we were on the first floor, it was a little bit loud. But it actually added to the charm! Some of the regular double rooms looked a little less spacious though, but if you can get a 3-person room or a superior double, you should be fine. Loved the canal view. Breakfast was average, but adequate. Overall, loved this place! So convenient, cheap, clean, and close to St Mark's! The lady in charge went out of her way to make sure we were satisfied with our room.

Very pleased we spent more for a canal view with a balcony-had 40-50 gondolas passed by in 2 hours- really felt in Venice! Room was small but clean and comfortable, and the hotel was less than 5 minutes from St. Marks Square. Monica, the manager, was very helpful,and@150 euros/nite the room was excellent value for Venice.

Monica and Dario were tremendous helps and very, very friendly. Monica gave us a recommendation of a place to eat and I would say it ranked right up there with the best meals we had in Italy. If we were ever to return to Venice Hotel Mercurio would be the only place we would stay. We were booked in room 25 and it overlooked a canal and when we opened the windows we were greeted by the sounds of singing gondoliers. We only stayed for 2 days but could enjoy a longer stay with no problem. Again I would like to commend both Monica and Dario to the owners of the hotel, they are superb representatives.

This was a convenient, affordable very pleasant place to stay. Breakfast was very nice, great coffee. The multilingual desk staff were consistently cheerful and accommodating. This is not a fancy place -- building is old, but that's part of its charm. Rooms are not luxurious, but are attractive, clean, secure, and comfortable. That's all you need; Venice is not the kind of place you go to hang out in your hotel room all day! Our triple family room had a beautiful canal view and was unusually spacious by European standards. Be aware that having a window on a canal means hearing the noise of late-night revelers below (this will be true at any hotel you choose). There wasn't too much of that when we were there in mid-April, but I woke up to canal noise one night -- and Venice can be a much noisier town in the tourist-packed summer months. For us, noise level was acceptable and the picturesque view from our two large windows was definitely worth it. There's a steep staircase from the hotel entrance to the lobby -- our 5-year-old was able to handle it fine, but toddlers or elderly might find it aggravating to have to navigate steep stairs multiple times a day. All hotels in Venice are pricey, but compared to what else was available, this was a good value for the money. In my experience, spacious and affordable family rooms are hard to come by, and this one was very comfortable! Location couldn't be beat. Easy walk to Rialto and Piazza San Marco. Lots of great food and little shops nearby. When we return to Venice. I will happily stay at Mercurio again.

Perfect location -close to San Marco Square.Fabulous, helpful ad kind personnel. Directions to hotel a little tricky really needed a map or written directions with street names.Given directions over phone so all was well. Small room but comfortable!

This hotel is a gem! 5 minutes from St Mark's and easy walking distance to all other sights. Our double room was on the small side, but very clean & comfortable. The staff were really helpful - the lady receptionist in particular. Breakfast was excellent with a good choice.

My husband and I were delighted with the hotel. Despite the fact that the room was small we had a wonderful view over a canal and it was in close proximity to St Mark's, the opera house and Rialto. Monica, the receptionist, could not have been more helpful - she spoke good English and was happy to help with advice on where to go for concerts to the best way to get to the airport. We thought it was excellent value for money. Our only minor complaint was that it was impossible to see how to reach the hotel as the map is so tiny. I think a simple explanation on how to reach the hotel from the water bus stop would be helpful.

A delightful hotel, in a brilliant location, at a very reasonable price. We were able to leave our bags after checkout, which made the rest of that day much more agreeable. Breakfast area tiny, but not a problem. The website details were extremely helpful, but didn't mention the (much cheaper) Alilaguna service from Marco Polo airport to San Marco.

We arrived on a dark and rainy night at the Marco Polo airport and took the water bus across the lagoon to the landing near Piazza San Marco. Trudging with our rolling luggage through the narrow streets in the rain and the dark, we followed the directions sent by the hotel hoping to find our destination. The instructions were perfect and we soon were standing under the small lighted sign of the Mercurio Hotel. The staff was very welcoming and helpful and we were soon settled into a lovely spacious room drying off and dropping thankfully onto comfortable beds. We received excellent suggestions about local restaurants and sites to see. The hotel was our base for the next 3 days as we enjoyed as much as possible the many wonderful sights and sounds of Venice. The hotel breakfast was ample to keep us going through a morning of sightseeing. We have recommended the Mercurio to our friends and they were equally delighted to stay there. The hotel is well situated, about a 5 minute walk from Piazza San Marco. Should we ever have the chance to return to Venice, we would most likely return to this lovely hotel for our stay.

The location is great, really close to San Marco and Ponte di Rialto. Everything was OK except that they offered us a room without the canal view (with the lower price), although I booked for one with the view and it was confirmed. So my surprise to my girlfriend was ruined. But anyway it is worth the price and I would recommend to stay. Make sure you have the room with the view when reserving.

The room was basic, but clean. It was a bit noisy. There was construction going on next door. The shower was tiny and the water flow was minimal. The breakfast was fine with fresh breads and fruit. The location is excellent. I had no trouble finding it given the map. Remember to look up for the hotel sign! The desk staff was outstanding! They spoke English and were extremely friendly and helpful. They really helped to make our visit to Venice special and enjoyable. I would recommend the hotel to budget travelers and would stay there again myself.

We experienced a rail strike and requested that the hotel increase or cancel our room so that we would not have to move to Mercurio hotel the next night. He was unable to accommodate our request therefore, we had to find another hotel for one night then move to the Mercurio the next night. We were on the top floor which was four flights of steps with no lift(elevator)but they did carry our luggage up and down for us. We did find the shower very small and the room very hot. But it was clean, low ceiling and they provided twin beds. The location to St. Mark's square was very good.

Although the hotel staff is really good and try their best, I still think it is a rippoff to pay a price of a 5 star hotel on a bed and breakfast just because it is in venice

Nice central located hotel, a short walk from the taxi bus station at San Marco. Staff is well spoken and very friendly, this is a excellent choice if you have limited budget as overall Venice is a expensive city.

Monica did a great job of helping my wife and me find the sort of things we enjoy. We saw parts of Venice many miss. Across the canal from our room was a house where Mozart stayed when in Venice for festivities. We ate in trattoria and had a great time. Finding it was easy using Google maps and walking in from the Grand Canal. We wish we'd had more time there.

I traveled with my brother, and both of us loved this place. The location was perfect for sightseeing. Both the day person(Monica)and the evening person (Victorrio) treated us like we were special guests. They spent lots of time with us giving us recommendations for sites to see and places to eat. The room was spacious, and unexpectedly elegantly furnished given the price we were paying. This would be a great place for honeymooners--it is very romantic. This was my favorite hotel by far of the several we stayed at on our first European vacation. One warning: the hotel does have steep stairs, and there is no elevator, so older folks especially might want to ask the hotel personnel for help with their bags.

it's fine, we had a massive room with a canal view. The whole hotel is quite run down, but the staff are nice and the location is really amazing. Prices are average or even below average for central Venice.
