Hotel Marte has been situated so close to the train station and the center. We were looking to a hotel which was economic and central and also livible. If you are not looking for luxury, Hotel Marte will highly cover your expectations.

The room was great for Venice, easy walking distance from the train station, clean, private bath, even had an air conditioner. With the air on and the window closed we could not hear any noise from the street. They did have a breakfast at the cafe downstairs which was a pastry and a coffee. They did have free wifi. Our room was by the common area and we had signal in our room but there was always people in the common area using the internet so I would assume that if your room is not by the common area then you would not get signal

It's my first time in Venice. The hotel was far from the main train station especially hassle if you have luggages. The room along the street was noisy. The room is very small, can hardly move. The breakfast is just bread and coffee, needs to improve.

It's not easy to find cheap accommodation in Venice, but this hotel will do just fine. One star, so don't expect too much. However, the room was clean (and kept clean every day) and had a private bathroom. It situated just a few minutes from the train station, so no long walks with your suitcase(s). Free internet and a Italian breakfast (drink + croissant) in the bar around the corner. Downside: walls are thin so expect some noise from your neighbors or the central area, but I guess this is not the only hotel in an old city like Venice with thin walls... In all a good price/quality level if you don't want to spent a fortune just to sleep in a bed.

Great location, easy acces to the railway station and Piazzale Roma. A lot of restaurants and shops nearby. At a five minutes walk there's a supermarket. I got more than I expected from a one star hotel but the price during the high season it's still very high. The breakfast is a coffee and a croissant at a bar nearby (very good but you might want something more to eat). The check in was a little bit difficult as the lady at the reception only spoke Italian. A downpoint might be that the hotel closes at 2am.

The hotel is very well located. Around 400m the railway station. I had a tripple room with bathroom and a lovelly view of the channel. The breaksfast is served in a coffe shop below. Cons: three floors by stairs. Marte and Baisin Hotels work together, but the front desk is in Marte Hotel. Basin hotel has less stairs than Marte, but Marte has better rooms.

We had a corner room with 3 windows overlooking the canal and the bridge. Every morning the fish market would open below our window. Very picturesque! Included breakfast was a coffee and pastry at the corner cafe. The room was not clean and bathroom tiles were a mess!

Frankly speaking, the price is a little bit expensive. There is no elevator, but you have to take your luggage to the reception desk at the third floor. And you have to call the reception desk to confirm whether you live in this hotel or the other one belonging to this hotel at the other side of the river, but no one answer your phone. The servers, especially a lovely old lady, are very warm, friendly and hospitality.

We have been returning to Hotel Marte for five years (2-3 times a year). The proprietess is a most gracious and helpful hostess. The hotel may not be perfect, but its pluses far outweigh the minuses. Wonderful view from some of the rooms

Steep steps made bag transfer difficult (rooms on second floor) but that is the norm in lots of Europe. Above noisy street but earplugs solve that problem. Elderly owner not so easy to communicate with.

Good location. Close to the Venice S.L. station and main boat dock. Price is not bad in Venice, although 86 euros/day is high enough for other cities. Unsatisfied issues: Only one old lady charge for Hotel Marte and another hotel next to the canal. No lift. It is a nightware if you have big luggages. Very cold. The heat mode of air conditioner seems doesn't work. The room has no towel in the first night. The breakfast is too simple and skimpy. The breakfast bar charge me two euros for a cup of hot water.

The worst experience I've had in over 25 years of traveling. I had to climb 3 sets of marble stairs carrying my own luggage. The room was badly furnished and the furniture was in poor shape. They offered no services. The telephone didn't work. No area where to sit outside one's room. One heard everything that went on at the reception desk. VERY POOR ALL AROUND.

The worse hotel I have ever in, was not able to get enough sleep, no air conditioning, can't open the windows outside people were noisy all night long, as well as the front staff making too many noises. Supposed to be B & B - well they give you a typed up coupon doesn't even give you the correct name & place to go for a meager breakfast.HORRIBLE EXP.

My general experience was one I have already tried to cancel from my brain. The hotel was up two flights of stairs and no elevator. Room was very small, a bit smelly, old and very unattractive. The bathroom was tiny, shower was a spout in middle of closet sized bathroom with drain in floor. No room to do anything but turn around ever so carefully as to not completey wet everything in the room. Bed was not good. I will not return there again. Unfortunately, there were no other hotels available for the night under 200euro so I decided to stay. Access to the hotel is not easy either if you have luggage.

The breakfast provided is 1 small pastry and drink. Our room was left unlocked after making the beds luckly nothing was stolen. Reception staff most of the time did not speak english. Sometimes there was no hot water for the shower. The fridge in our room did not work. Has a lot of stairs and no lift.

Hotel Marte was in a great location, 7 minutes on foot from the train station and not far at all from St. Marco's square and other attractions. We had a private bathroom so that was a plus. But the room was small and beds weren't really comfortable. But the staff at the front desk were really welcoming and helpful. So I would most likely stay there again because when you're in a city as beautiful and extraordinary as Venice, the location matters more than where you sleep at night!

I can highly recommend Hotel Marte and the position is excellent. My room was spotless and super cool on arrival with the a/c on full - when it's 35 degrees and humid outside this was a truly cool oasis. Furnishings are fairly basic (what else can you expect from a 1 star hotel?), but with a fridge, phone, colour TV and hairdryer what more do you need? All the staff were friendly and helpful and although I had a room overlooking the canal, it was double glazed so no noise problems. The only negative aspect is that the hotel is actually on the second floor and there is no lift, so it's not ideal for those who can't climb stairs. I can also highly recommend Gam-Gam, the Jewish restaurant across the canal next to Ponte Guglie. An excellent choice for vegetarians.

The hotel is located over the little bridge from the vaporetti. It is in a good location of shops and restaurants. The hotel is small and up two flights of stairs. It is quiet and safe. The bathroom is small and not very up to date but for price and location. You can not beat a better deal. The staff knows some to a lot of english which was very helpful. I was a short ride from the major sites on board the vaporetti. It is such a wonderful island and so safe. I loved walking around at night.

We had a room with view on the canal so it was entertaining to watch all the traffic go by in the morning. Unfortunately, a spell of bad weather was upon Venice during our stay and we ended up spending an afternoon in our room. Because of the torrential rains, it was very damp and cold and we did not have any heat in our room. This was a bit of an inconvenient. The staff told us they'd give us a heater but we didn't get one in the end. Still, I would probably stay there again. It was close to the train station and not too expensive.

Hotel Marta was a great place to stay for the location. The reception is on the 2nd-3rd floor for those who have to drag luggage ... no lift. But to be in Venice on a main street was fabulous. Hotel Marta is about a 10 min walk from the train station. If arriving from Roma square, then you must go up the bridge steps and then down, go past the train station and walk another 5-8 minutes. The breakfast was the usual roll and drink at the nearby cafe.

Was exactly as we expected, great location, room was along the hall from reception, people attending the front desk, spoke until early morning ( 2.30 am ), and could be heard in the room, sleeping was difficult. Price vs room was good considering it was Venice, and the location, the hotel itself located anywhere else would be poor. we paid for the location and the view from the room. The older lady - assumed owner, showed very little interest in her guest.

The hotel met our needs perfectly - excellent location for easy walking distance from station, with venetian daily life on our doorstep, restaurants, cafes, market, water bus all close-by. I DO wish we had asked how to use the air-conditioning, though - it was VERY hot and humid while we were there and we didn't realise the air-con had a remote control, until we saw one being used in the cafe below - on our last day :P. The breakfast included was not the healthiest, (ok for an indulgent weekend), but we made up for it by buying fruit and vegetables from the market.

It is a good hotel that is only a 5 minute walk from the train station. That is important in Venice since wondering around the city with luggage can be a real pain. Although there was some confusion about our reservation, the hotel staff was very quick to correct it and accommodate us. Keep in mind that the bathroom is tiny and doesn't have a dedicated shower. Instead there is a shower head coming out of the wall and exits through a central drain in the bathroom floor. Also keep in mind that the breakfast is a ticket for coffee and a pastry at a nearby cafe. So don't expect a huge feast. This hotel is great for someone who needs a comfortable room at an affordable price and doesn't require a lot of frills.

This hotel was fine for a budget traveller. We were 4 in a quad room, so space was limited, but then we were only in the room to sleep. The location was perfect and the staff very helpful. The breakfast, that was included was a basic continental, but that was expected. The bonus was being able to leave our bags at the hotel from when we checked out until 9pm that evening. I would recommend this hotel for people who want a budget but clean, quiet bed in an expensive city.

This is my second visit to venice, and the first at Hotel Marte. We travelled in in style (high speed water taxi) and alighted directly opposite the Marte Hotel entry. Although we were moved by the hotel and actually stayed directly across the cannal from Hotel Marte (in a sister hotel). This reduced the amount of stairs we needed to travel - which was considerable with our luggage and 3 kids. We found where we stayed child friendly, and also close to a great park and play ground (opposite our hotle & next to Hotel Marte). We could also see up the cannal we stayed on to a partial view of the Grand Canal from our bed room window. An extra, unexpected highlight. While I would recommend to most travellers including families - we were cautious to avoid kids ganing accessing to open windows that open out to provide nice local area views of Venice.

The photos made this look like a cute place to stay. It was very ordinary and too expensive for what it was. The room (triple) was cramped and the bathroom was ancient and not very clean. We staggered up 2 flights of stairs with our bags and the reception area was very uninviting. Breakfast was a voucher for the cafe downstairs and, although it didn't amount to much, at least the coffee was good. At 120 Euros for a night, it was over-priced, but it was Easter weekend, so they were probably capitalising on the opportunity. We only stayed one night as we were in transit and wanted to be near the station. This hotel was not a patch on the Stella Alpina, which is nearer the station and much better value.

This Hotel has stairs to climb, like most hotels in Venice, so please be aware. The location is very good to the Railway and canal transport. My wife and I found that the location is close to shops and eating areas. I would recommend to singles and couples who can climb stairs, room not large but suitable. Also water pressure in shower is not ideal. Still enjoyed stay.
