Hotel Marin was an excellent hotel for us budget travellers from Canada. We stayed 2 nights. Most of hotel Staff was very welcoming and helpful with suggestions(just one female reception staff not so friendly or helpful).Situated on a very quiet street, one minute off the main road, the hotel is directly across the Grand Canal from the train station, with many small restaurants and shops very close by. Our room was small (as always, in Venice) but adequate, and lovely, and bathroom had been recently upgraded. No elevator. We had the only room on the main floor, so did have a little noise outside our door in the evenings from guests using the free wifi (available in lobby only) but did not bother us. Continental breakfast; cereals, rolls, yoghurts, jams, pastries, juices and we were offered a delicious cappuccino or hot chocolate every morning. Can also buy a coffee or tea during the day or evening. Excellent hotel, great value. We highly recommend this hotel and would absolutely stay here again. Suggest emailing hotel for better directions & map to get there.

Marin Hotel (or Albergo it depends)is well situated (5mn walk from venezia train station). We were welcomed by the owner, a very kind woman who likes her job and takes time with her guests to explain the city map, where to eat cheap. Our room, the last one available was without bathroom and toilet but the one on the floor was clean. The breakfast was not good at all and there were no wifi in the room but in the lobby

Hotel Marin is 12-15 min walking from the Santa Lucia Railway station, 10 min from ferrovia (vaporetto station) and near to the piazza la roma (The vaporetto station when you come from Marco Polo Airport). Rooms are quite good and servers the good breakfast. Its one of the best place to live in Venice. Great value for Money.

The rooms are terribly small. When you place your luggage on the floor you have no where to walk. The bathrooms are to share but were neat and tidy. We stood at reception for a while before being assisted. Breakfast was fare. Location is good as it is very close to the train station. Getting to the room with your luggage is a mission and a half with absolutely no assistance offered.

This is a superb hotel in the main part of Venice, just opposite St. Lucia railway station so it is quite convince for travellers catching trains.the room is nice and breafast is satisfied with bread, tea, coffee, juice, and other standard continual breakfast content. I was so pleased living there.

We spent more than half an hour to find the location as we were given wrong directions after stumbled over the bridge in front of SMN station. But in fact if one spend 2 or 3 nights there he will get familiar with the small and zigzag Venetian lanes. The room is not big, and to climb up with heavy luggages is definitively a big problem as hotel has no elevator. There are a lot of mosquitos in the room, even it is in December! we killed at least 4 and there are more than 20 dead bodies on the ceiling or walls! The room is moderately clean. it is a bit of small. there are not many things served for breakfast. I will try other hotels if i come back to Venice.

Our hotel room was very small but for a short break stay, it was adequate. The staff were welcoming, helpful and and their English vocabulary was excellent. The breakfast was basic and the same every day but there is no limit to the amount you eat. The hotel is very convenient for the Piazza Roma (bus station) and Ferrovia (train station) - both within a 5-10 minute walk. We used the ATVO bus to and from the airport and at 6 euros return each is extremely good value for money. The journey is approx 30 minutes. Probably not a hotel for small children, almost all the guests were small groups of adults and couples. Word of warning - allow plenty of time at the airport for your return home - the airport was chaotic to say the least! We arrived at 09.30 for a 12.15 flight and only just made it! There are huge queues for check-in, departure gates, passport control, boarding - and watch out for the queue-jumpers too, there were several 'confrontations' because of people attempting to push in.

Hotel is extremely close to train station; 5 minute walk. Area is safe and quiet during the day and not too bad at night. Rooms are small, but they are clean and get the job done. It looks as though there was a recent renovation of the hotel. Bathrooms had mutiple head shower with blow dryer and new fixtures. Very good breakfast in the morning consisting of pastries, coffee, and cereal. Breakfast area was nice, big, and clean. Overall we were very happy with our stay and felt the room and service were a good value for the money. The front desk person, Sevag, was extremely helpful and kind. He gave us a map upon our arrival and gave some very good suggestions for eating. He was always there willing to help.

Albergo Marin is offically rated 1 star on the door - but actually it's as good as many 3 stars we've stayed in. Location near railway station is convenient and for vaporetto stops plus Piazza Roma for bus from airport. Hotel easy to find - but not in an overly touristy area. The rooms seem to be recently refurbished, were clean - size varied a bit but none were pokey. Downside - beds and pillows were on the firm side. Staff were very helpful; spoke good English and breakfasts included juice, yogurt, cereal, croissant, rolls. Breakfast room has fine historic painted ceiling. A great place to stay to explore Venice at a reasonable (for Venice) price - all we did was sleep and breakfast and it was great for our stay.

Pleasant little hotel - very handy for station. Very good breakfast (by Italian standards), quiet location. Room was very small, no air conditioning but mosquito zapper provided. Located very conveniently across the Scalzi BRidge and behind the San Simeon Piccolo Church, hardly 5 mins away from the Train Station. We were surprised that our room had neither bath nor toilet attached ! All the other rooms had them. Couldn't figure out why.Luckily the shared bath and toilet was only used by us on our floor.Neat and clean facilities. Good breakfast room with additional items like yogurt , juice etc, though it opens a bit late, at 8 AM. Very good location for an entry to Venice and for getting to the Bus Station for the airport ride. A bit pricey , but that is Venice , we suppose !

It took a while, dragging our suitcases to find the hotel...but once we found it, the location was easy access and convenient to the bus station and restaurants, etc. The breakfast was bare minimum, but served the purpose...coffee was excellect! We stayed there the night before and after our cruise and it gave us an opportunity to see Venice.

Hotels in Venice are expensive and mediocre - like Amsterdam. This is the most expensive and least attractive hotel we stayed in on a trip that included Madrid and Florence. Some may think I rate this hotel too high, but it is relative to what I saw as available for our budget - around than 130 Euros per room during Easter week. There is no elevator and most rooms are up one or two flights of stairs. Most rooms are probably quiet. I gave it a low rating on quiet because our children (18 and 21) were in a room adjacent to the lobby on the ground floor and the door could not block out the noise from the lobby nor the windows the noise from outside. The breakfast was adequate but not exciting - like food in Amsterdam. The location was excellent for us - a short walk from the train station and the bus to the airport. It was a long walk to St. Marks, but a vaparetto was close. The neighborhood is quiet - mostly residential with few tourists. I think the photos on the website are homely and accurate. The canal photo, however, is nearby. The hotel is not on a canal.

The direction on the webpage was not clear. Actually this is a very good hotel b/c the alley leading to the hotel is practically opposite the railway station across the canal. It takes only 10 minutes to walk from Venice Santa Lucia to the hotel.(From front of station, go left, cross the first bridge by the church, turn right, go for about 100 meters. The alley is on your left, about 1meter wide. At the end, turn left. The hotel is on the right.) The hotel is all non-smoking-which is very good. The bathroom is clean and modern. The breakfast is not bad but should be more substantial for its price. However, Venice is a VERY expensive place. Warning: Venice has several bridges we need to WALK across. Secondly, the hotel does not have an elevator though the stories are not high up. Still having big bags can be a problem. Also, you don't need any map. Venice is tourist friendly, you can just walk and follow the arrow signs to popular places.

Only meal we had was the breakfast. I dont think they provide any other meals. Wasnt a problem though. Breakfast was adequate, yet was better than the breakfast we had at a 4 star hotel in Milan. Proper cappuccino too. Realised when we first saw the hotel why there are no outside pictures of the hotel on the web site. It really does look like it needs a lick of paint, much like the rest of Venice. Yet once inside its all different, reception, nice and clean, tiled floors etc. Very laid back Receptionist, not bothering as to when we would like to pay our bill. Clean staircase and corridors. Clean rooms, yet small. We had an en suite on the first floor, which was fine. Clean bathroom. So for the price, it was an excellent choice. Nice and easy to find from the Ryanair drop of point and even easier from the main station. Venice is a quiet city away from the grand canal, so the hotel location, tucked away about a block from the grand canal was very quiet. Vaporetto stop on grand canal about 1 minute walk which then gives you access to all of Venice. Would I stay there again ? You betcha. Venice is an expensive city, yet this hotel, close to all transport links is a real find.

The hotel is really easy to find, you can't miss it. Even though, the street is close to the train station, it was really quiet (at least, in February!). The staff was definitely nice, welcoming and helpful. The rooms were clean with TV and bathroom, and you can ask a hot drink anytime. As others mentionned, the breakfast is not that substantial but still correct. You will not be starving. The only problems we noticed had to do with the bathroom and the heating. It was really cold in the room and you couln't turn up the thermostat! At 11 p.m., we tried to take a shower but there was no hot water left. We had to wait for the morning and it took approximatively 10-15 mn before we manage to get hot water (which was really hard to adjust, it was either boiling or freezing). Plus, there was no pressure. Fortunately, I didn't wash my hair because the hairdryer wasn't hot enough... I think the whole thing must be perfect during summer but it was not really adapted to winter. I don't know (and I actually I don't think so) if all the room have the same problem. Otherwise, the hotel is not far from the center of Venice (let's say 20-25 mn to Piazza San Marco). I finally stress the fact that the staff was really nice and there was no problem, except for the shower.

I was traveling with my brother and requested 2 beds. I did this 7 months in advance since we were visiting on the last 2 days of the Venice carnevale. When we got to the hotel, unfortunately, they had us booked into a room with only 1 bed. Because they had to change our room, we ended up getting a room that was very small and right next to the lobby....almost an afterthought room. Otherwise, they were very accommodating, the hotel was very clean, and it was a very good location.

The hotel is on the Venice island, which already makes the location excellent. Every attraction on the island is walking distance. I asked my now fiancee too marry me at the hotel and the staff member arranged a breakfast basket for me to take up to our room, which was very nice. You can also buy champagne at the hotel for a pretty good price. Would definitely recommend this hotel for anybody going too Venice and would like to stay on the island but don't have thousands of euro's for accommodation. Would stay there again.

The staff was friendly but had difficulty finding our reservation. Our room had a private bath but the other rooms on the floor shared a bathroom, which must have been right next to our room because we heard people getting up all night to use the facilities, which made it difficult to sleep. Our friends, however said their room was quiet, which was on another floor. We liked the location, it was close to the train station. The breakfast was quite adequete. I would only stay here again if we had a room on another floor!

The main problem was, that we booked a shared bathroom. From the second day on an other guest claimed the private bathroom he has ordered. But the hotel has no private bathrooms, so he exclusivly got the key for the shared bathroom, and we had to use the seperate shower and the seperate toilet for our needs. But there was only a tiny sink and no possibilities just to put down your washbag. No way to do a solid wet shave there, and even brushing your teeth was not easy under these circumstances. But the biggest outrageousness was, that none of the clerks pretended to know, why the shared bathroom was surprisingly locked, and they all said, they were not responsable and could do nothing without the manager. (We never saw a manager nor did we get a message from him about the problem.) The whole thing was very annoying, and the price reduction at the end of our stay was not worth all the anger. Another thing: although the cleaning women did a good job, we had quite a lot of flea bites from the second night on. This may have other reasons - but flea bites in the face is usually a sign, that they live in the pillows. - It's a cheap hotel in every respect, and if yoh have the chance to spend a little more money, then choose another one.

I did not realise tha "No bath" also meant not even any washbasin in the room, if so I would not have booked it. I could put up with this as it was for only one night but I would never want to stay there again. I dod not go to Venice to stay in the hotel room, but I would like it to be less depressing than I fould this one. There was a heating radiator in the room but it was never hot and the room was rather cold. The breakfast was not bad. The location is convenient.

The staff at the front desk and the dining room were always friendly and tried to be helpful but language was sometimes a problem. The breakfast buffet was adequate but the coffee very good. I have visited Venice many times and have always found hotel prices on the main island very expensive; as a result have frequently stayed at Lido. Three of us shared a very large room for 110 euros. The Marin is located within 5 minutes walk of both the railway station and Piazzale Roma, very handy for anyone arriving by coach or train. The Grand Canal is 50 metres away. The staff spoke excellent English and gave us a very good welcome. I think the Marin would be greatly appreciated by visitors of all ages. My party (aged 75, 59 and 41) will certainly go there again.

The hotel is located in a perfect location in Venice. Only 5 minutes walk from Venezia Santa Lucia train Station. I read reviews about the hotel was not easy to find. On the contrary it was very easy to find. As you exit the station you'll see a bridge on your left (the bridge is called "Ponte degli Scalzi"). Cross the bridge, take a right and then take a left on the street next to the church "Chiesa di S. Simeon Piccolo". It's a big church (currently under restoration) which is hard to miss. Walk to the end of the street and then take a right and another right and the hotel is right there. It's pretty much behind the church. If you are arriving to Piazzale Roma, getting to the church is easy and not far. Once you get to the church follow my instructions above. I will definitely stay at Hotel Marin on my next visit to Venice. This is a real hidden gem in Venice.

Hotel is in a great location for getting around venice and is very convenient for those arriving by train, literally a five minute walk away. from the station. Triple room was quite compact but clean and quiet. Staff were very welcoming, friendly and really helpful.

Our stay at Marin was OK. We didn't enjoy it too much, especially the shared bathroom, but we chose it to save some Euros. We could have stayed in a nicer place, but in Venice it would have cost a lot more. The location is not too far from the railway station, although over a couple of bridges. The staff were helpful, spoke good English, and the breakfast is good.

We were greeted at the Hotel Marin by a very friendly manager who offered to hold our bags while we toured Venice for the day. He also offered us a few tips on an area of restaurants where we wouldn't be surrounded by tourists. The rooms were clean and a very good value for Venice which has gone over the top on prices and crowds of tourists. We enjoyed our stay here.

The only shared bathroom on the 2nd floor could not be locked from the inside for the whole week; and nobody seemed interested in fixing that.

Very nice hotel. The staff is warm and friendly. There is some noise because the streets are in refection, but it was a minor inconvenience, because when the works used to start we were already awake and ready to go out visiting Venice which is a lovely city.

Marin is in good location of the train station and easily accessable to the vaparetto. The price was one of the cheapest we could find around the area we wanted to stay and it was great that it included breakfast.

Very good place to stay, and for Venice, cheap. Excelent location for those arriving by train, and easy to get to all the sights. Excelent breakfast and room.

Initially had difficulty finding the hotel, but was super-easy once we knew our way around. Room had nice blankets, in clean condition, and no issue with mosquitoes. Private bathroom steamed up a lot after showers and never de-steamed, even after leaving the fan on for a long time, but overall no big issues with the bathroom. Be careful what you pay though--the couple who arrived before us got a room w/o private bathroom (although they reserved one with private). They simply asked that they pay the non-bathroom rate, which is listed in every room. The man at the front desk kept trying to charge them more than the legal max, citing "high season" then blaming the computer then trying to bargain for almost an hour, until finally allowing the couple to pay the correct rate for the room. Make SURE you check out the sheet which is supposed to be in every room to check that you are not overpaying!!!

This hotel was tucked away behind a church, across the bridge from the train station. The triple room was very clean. We shared two bathrooms with the entire floor but was clean and no timing conflicts. The biggest problem was the clerk behind the desk seemed more interested in typing instant messages than checking us into our room. He made us wait about 10 minutes while he typed profusely on the keyboard. He also apologized but made me wait a few minutes when we checked out. Both times seeming very stressed.

Room is ok. Shared bathrooms are clean. But the outside look of the hotel is not good. The receiptionist who talked to us when we arrived is not welcoming. We have to wait 3 hours to get the room as we arrived at 9:00 PM.

As a one star hotel it was very good value for money. However, we have the following criticisms: We were disappointed that the hotel did not provide safe deposit facilities. Also the hotel was very difficult to find and we feel that the websitee should provide a much more detailed map indicating directions, bearing in mind that having arrived in Venice one's only option of finding the hotel is on foot. Also, a low rating was given for the hotel surroundings due to construction work which is currently taking place outside
