Excellent placed, few steps from S Marco Sq. and few meters from "Vaporetto fermata" San Marco - S Zaccaria. Clean and silent room and good facilities. Very nice and romantic hotel in the lovely Venice. But, poor breakfast for a 3* hotel, almost no proteins food available, no polite approach from the waitress. General impression good.

We requested a room for 4 people, which ended up being a normal sized room for a double bed with two twin cots stuffed on either side of the bed leaving very little space to move around. This was the only negative aspect of our stay. Great location for the price!

Would not go back to this property. Hotel is located down a dark alley. On arrival you climb a steep set of stairs with no lift to reception and then climb up to 5 more floors of stairs to get to your tiny room with no view and a bathroom door that doesn't close properly. Staff will not help you with your bags. Breakfast - the coffee and croissant - are served in a cramped windowless room. The supply of towels decreased every day. Find another hotel.

They can't offer rooms for 4 persons. It's just a room for 2 with 2 more beds. The space between each one is 20 cm. They don't have elevators. And they don't offer some help to carry the luggage. The only good thing they have is the location, very closed to plaza San Marco.

We were surprised when we weren't going to be located in the hotel itself and were disappointed when the room itself was quite small. Bathroom was fine though and the small window looked out onto a picturesque courtyard. Location was fantastic but overall it was a little expensive for the room on offer.

This hotel is in a great location within easy walking distance of all major sights and transport links. The rooms are on the smaller side but have a decent sized bathroom and our room had a roof terrace which was great!. The hotel is basic but clean and I would recommend it.

Right in the centre of Venice, within two minutes of the main vaparetto lines. Quiet. Not pretentious. Only drawback was the quality of the coffee at breakfast! But this is a common feature of Italian hotels - and there were coffee shops nearby.

This was our first stay in Venice and we really enjoyed being at the Hotel Lux. The location was fantastic right in the centre just next to San Marco Square and the hotel was quaint and quirky. The room was quite small and there were 4 flights of stairs but once you had got there was a lovely roof terrace with a table where we enjoyed a glass of wine or two prior to going out in the evening. The rooms was a touch too warm despite it being November and we were told to open the windows rather than putting on the air con - unfortunately this let in some fairly fierce mosquitoes - repellent is essential for Venice... even in November!! Breakfast was small but adequate. Excellent value for money and very happy all round.

The Hotel Lux is in a perfect location for visiting Venice, but that is its best feature. On the negative side, there is no lift and many narrow stairs, the breakfast room is tiny and breakfast is very basic. Our room was small, but clean. The AC was not adequate, never cooling below 26C during the night. That will not be a problem in other seasons. Another plus was that they booked us a private boat ride to Murano, a visit to a glass blowing demonstration and visit to a showroom, however there was no obligation to buy. We paid our own return to Venice after visiting the island and eating lunch there. A real plus.

Room clean, and quite spacious for Europe.Air-conditioning a god-send! Venetian-style decor quite romantic; lovely if you like more atmospheric, as we did. Bathroom small but adequate. Steps up to reception a bit tough with large bag, but worth the effort. Would be tough for older or physically-challenged person though. A bit noisy from lane of shops/restaurants below, but not too bad (no sleep lost as it quietened down by a reasonable hour). Reception staff very helpful re tourist info and suitable water ferry numbers, etc. Location excellent - about 2 minutes walk from St Mark's square and ferry stop!

This hotel was in a great location and very well priced for Venezia. The rooms were well equipped but tiny. The quad room was just a double bed with two stretcher beds squeezed in between the bed and the walls. Luckily the family of four didn't spend any time in there except for sleeping. It was a tough climb for the kids with lggage up such a steep narrow staircase. Worth staying at, but be aware of the stairs!

What a fantastic hotel for the money. It must be in one of the best locations because it is 3 minutes from the water bus from the airport and minutes from St. Marks square. Plus,it was so easy to find, being just off a side street from the main street on The Grand Canal. We were on the 5th floor in the roof so had the most stairs to climb but it was worth it - a really quirky room. Staff were friendly and breakfast good for italians.Coffee was especially good.

The staff was a little abrasive and didn't understand the workings of their internet service. Other than that, the location was perfect to see venice. make sure you take the waterbus #2 to get you to the hotel the fastest. It will cost you 6.50 euro per person as opposed to taking a water taxi. Water taxi might be the way to go if you have a group of 6 or more tho. Rooms were ok. Watch out for loose electrical fittings and appliances, short steps right inside the door that you will trip on, lots of steps, and a really crowded breakfast area with a very limited selection. I would not recommend this hotel if you are a "high class" type of traveller, but for the everyday tourist that doesn't spend much time in the room, it is a pretty sweet deal.

The location is perfect and within a minute's walk from St Marks Square. I had thought it would hard to find but we had no trouble arriving by Vaporetto and getting off at San Zaccharia. Our 4 bed room was spacious and clean. There was a shared sitting area as well. We weren't in the main hotel building but we overlooked the canal which has the Bridge of Sighs. Breakfast was satisfactory for the rating of the hotel. Mother and teenagers very happy with the Lux

The location was excellent, 2 minutes from the lagoon and 5 minutes for San Marco. The immediate locality is off putting in that the very small entrance is easily missed as it is in a narrow, not very clean, alleyway OFF the Calle delle Rasse and not as per address. The interior is well appointed and quaint but the Breakfast Room / Bar was not big enough for the number of guests and it was necessary to wait on a couple of mornings. We were allocated a room on the 4th floor -69 steps from the entrance and 53 to breakfast /reception. Hard work when you are 70 years old but the compensation was a small balcony from which, if you leaned over the edge, you could just see across the lagoon to San Georgio Maggiore [pity about the TV satelite dish on the Palazzo Danielle] nad the top of the Campanile. THe real joy of this hotel was that it led you to explore the small canals and piazze of the Castello and discover restaurants and bars away from the tourist crowds. Recommend the waterbus from the airport -ticket machine [E13 pp] in the airport near the baggage carousels and information desk {Blu or Red route]. Please note the famous [sic] Harry's Bar is over-rated, expensive and has less character than 100's on English pubs Photo's by separate E-mail as my computer won't attach them to this questionairre

The location 2 alleys over from the St Marks square is fantastic, and a stones throw from a major vaporetto stop. Late night strolls over to the square were a highlight. The room while small was clean, reasonably well furnished, and had double-glazing to shut out the street noise. As usual the so-called triple room was a double with cot bed, which I wouldn't mind if it was advertised as such. The bold striped wall paper was a bit overpowering :-) The bathroom was modern and excellent. Air con was available on request but had no working controls in the room. Breakfast was one of the more generous on the trip in the small but classy breakfast room. Staff mostly spoke English, the night guy spoke good English but was otherwise not as forthcoming with information as other staff. No lift.

The location of Lux is excellent as it is very close to the vaporetto stop of San Zaccaria. Once I managed to drag my heavy suitcase up the steep and narrow stairs, there was hardly any space for it in the tiny room. The so called breakfast room is a little corner in the reception. In my opinion, Lux is overpriced but then again, everything is overpriced in Venice.

I chose this hotel based on price and location. The price is half of what the canal front hotels charge, and it is located right around the corner from the Piazza San Marco. The hotel was very easy to find, and our room (the exact one in the pictures!) was ready when we got there. The breakfast room/bar was cozy and well appointed. The included breakfast was filling and helped us start our busy days. Everything was so convenient, the San Zaccaria vaporetto stop, shopping, restaurants, etc. The gelateria at the end of calle delle rasse was a nightly treat for us. The hotel staff were multi-lingual, very friendly and helpful. The water was hot, and towels plentiful. When I return to Venice, I will stay at the Lux. I highly recommend it.

I spent my girlfriend (and me) a weekend in Venice to engage her - and we did! So I had arranged to be close to anything in Venice as well as in a little, tidy room in a quiet hotel - and we were, indeed! Our flight back took off ad 10 pm. But: Check out had to be till 11 am and we could store our luggage at the hotel's luggage room and pick up later on (at 7 pm). So this service was very (!) helpful. However the price was 200,- Euro per night for a double room. I estimate that fair would have been 180,- Euro at least. But consider: You are in expensive venice, and even around 250 meters away from San Marco basilica! Finally consider: Once more, Venice is expensive. If you stay for only a few days, stay direct in Venice (i.e. in town), but be aware of the middle "Sestieri" Santa Croce as well as San Polo. We enjoyed to promenade in the lovely lanes of "Castello", wherein hotel Lux is based in. For a short weekend trip I would retourn to hotel Lux.

This hotel was situated very well. My girlfriend and I made the mistake of getting off at the San Marco vaparetto stop, but you're better off stopping at Zacharia. The hotel's street is right across from the stop. It was a confortable room, which was quiet, dark, and air conditioned quite well (It was bright, noisy and hot as hell outside :-). The room was right near San Marco, and many of the other areas were a short walk or vaparetto ride away. Venice is VERY expensive, and this hotel was a bit expensive as well, but a nice room overall.

One of the rooms was identical to the one showed on the website and in excellent conditions and the other 2 rooms were in a nearby building and not quite as spacious and nice. However, overall the hotel experience was very positive and the fact that there are no bridges to climb upon arrival is a big plus (it is located just 50 meters from the San Marco/Zacarias vaporreto stop). Overall Hotel Lux is an excellent hotel - well-located, surprisingly quiet, with staff that are generally friendly and helpful. The rooms are perfectly adequate, if a little small. The breakfasts are fine - good coffee (less so the tea), small white rolls and croissants of acceptable quality, joghurt, basic cereal and either grapefruit or melon juice. The breakfast room is small, but we never had problems finding a seat because we came early at 8 o'clock. There is a vaporetto stop literally two minutes from the hotel down Calle del Rasse, as well as an internet cafe (well, they don't serve coffee, but you can go on the internet there) nearby. The restaurants in the area are expensive and often you get rushed through your meal so that the next tourists can empty their pockets, but I would not follow the advice of going to the Rialto area to eat. The price difference is minimal, and the quality of food near Hotel Lux is very good whatever the price and the 'get on with your spaghetti' pressure which is applied. If you're a jogger, then Hotel Lux is the place for you. Down from the Hotel is the bank of the Grand Canal, and you can run along there down to the Garden of Remembrance and back - but before 8am. After that the tourists begin to swarm over the bridges.... Anyway, I thought Hotel Lux really very good value for money, and the one or two horror stories I read about it from other guests are incomprehensible to me, at least.

This was our second stay at the Lux within two years and you can't beat the location and the price/quality relation for the double rooms. We surely would stay there again. Rooms are spotlessly clean, but a bit small. But that's common, not just in Venice. We can only recommend this Hotel.

I WAS TRAVELLING WITH A GROUP OF 4 COUPLES, TWO ON THEIR FIRST TRIP TO ITALY. I WAS VERY DISSAPOINTED AND UPSET THAT THEY CHARGED THE FIRST NIGHT OF ALL THE ROOMS TO MY CREDIT CARD WITHOUT A WARNING AND THEY WOULD NOT REVERSE THE CHARGE EVEN AFTER DISCUSSING IT WITH THE CLERK, SHE SAID IT WAS THE HOTELS POLICY. I CALLLED AT NOON AND THEY DID NOT MENTION ANYTHING. WE CHECKED IN AT APP, 4PM. THEY JUST SENT ME AN E-MAIL OF THEIR "POLICY , I WILL FORWARD IT TO YOU. WE ARE VERY UPSET SINCE I HAVE BEEN USING VENERE FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE BEEN CHARGED WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE IN ADVANCE, AND I KNOW THAT IS NOT YOUR POLICY. HORRAY FOR VENERE , DOWN WITH THE LUX ADMINISTRATION, FACHARE LA BRUTA FIGURA !!!! WILL RETURN ONLY IF THEY CHANGE THEIR POLICY I DESERVE AN EXPLANATION WHY VENERE PERMITS THIS SORT OF THING.

Hotel confortevole, pulito e posizionato in un ottimo punto di Venezia. Unica nota: la colazione viene servita in un locale molto piccolo dotato di pochi tavoli.

We had an excellent stay at Lux. Location was fantastic. It was centrally located just few minutes away from the San Zaccaria and San Marco Square. People at Lux could converse in English which was of great help. Our rooms were OK. Reasonably priced.Lots of stairs so travel light. We must thank venere.com. Will definitely recommend anyone to stay at Lux and may visit again.

small real boutique hotel, renovated with style. we had a very little room - no chair, the triple room (kids) was good with bath. hard matress - as we like. photoes show the bigger rooms that we didn't get. good for lovers, red/orange decor. a/c ok. nice staff. breakfast continental - but ok, good coffee from machine. pricey as expected, not to much for location. small but lovely bar. don't think twice, take it, but ask for room NOT 202 (our small room)

The Lux is a very unique hotel. Our room was lovely, and the hotel is in a perfect spot. It was very close to Saint Mark's Square, but being tucked away in a little alley gave it a quaint homey feel, and took us out of all the tourist hubbub. We were here for our honeymoon, and the staff even gave us a bottle of champagne to welcome us, which we thought was a very nice touch. The only complaint we had was the air conditioning. We were in the very top room (#501), and the vents were positioned in such a way that the room never cooled off enough for us. It was very unfortunate, because this really is a lovely hotel. The staff was as accomodating as they could be, providing us with a very nice fan. I would certainly stay here again, but if you are sensitive to the heat, I suggest asking for a lower room, perhaps on the 2nd or 3rd floor, rather than the top. Otherwise, stay in 501, because it glows with charm.

Expensive. But not as bad as the aqua naturale from Piazza San Marco ($AUD15 for 450ml!!!!!!!) Room small but adequate. Bathroom fine. One of the waitresses in the breakfast room must have been having a bad day - extremely surly. Don't know her name. Staff otherwise pleasant and helpful.

NO HOT WATER!!!! We had no hot water. We complained and the excuse was that "one of the men" forgot to turn the valve in the laundry back on. The bath was tepid at best. NO HOT WATER!!!! The excuse this time was vague. Bath was cold. NO HOT WATER!!!! No excuse this time, and no hot water. NO HOT WATER!!!! At breakfast the second morning all guests in the room agreed that there was no hot water. NO HOT WATER!!!! At check out the manager claimed she had been gone the two days and that she would call the owner. I would not go to this hotel again. I feel that I was given the run-around and there was no effort made to rectify the problem. This is their standard operating procedure. NO HOT WATER!!!!

We were very pleased by this hotel. Location couldn't be better, it is right next to the piazza San Marco, the vaporetto's and it's surrounded by lots of restaurants. Rooms are nice and very clean, employees very helpful. We paid 100 euros for a double room and 120 euros for a triple, which is very reasonable for Venice I was told.

The proximity of the hotel to the Grand Canal makes it easy to get around. Everything was very cramped, though. With 4 suitcases and 4 beds in the room, there was barely any room to walk around. The breakfast room was small and cramped also. The staff was not as friendly or as fluent in English as other places we stayed.

Superb location, very central but also very quiet. I took party of 11 people and no one had a bad word for the accomodation, one booked to return with his wife while we were there. Excellent value for money, I would normally spend two or three times this on a room but I was not disappointed in any way and have recommended it to members of my family planning a trip to venice this year.

Our first disappointment was its rather humble appearance. After the first glimpse of the hotel, it takes an extraordinary amount of imagination to call it 'Lux'. We found almost everything about this hotel another disappointment, except for the locations which is almost unbeatable. We wouldn't stay in this hotel again, even for half of what we wasted on it.

A terrific location and a delightful hotel. Staff was friendly and helpful. Because we checked out but had 11 hours to kill before our train, LUX employees allowed us to store our luggage. Will reccommend to everyone and will stay again whenever I head north to Venice. No elevator but the climb was good for working off the food and wine consumed!

My husband and I spent part of our honeymoon at this quaint hotel. Great location if you want to be in the hub of all the great sites of Venice as well as easily access the others by the water-bus system. Very easy to find, we had a wonderful room in the main hotel on the third floor with a two windows opening to the center square of the hotel. Upon arrival our bags were carried up to the hotel but i did not see any type of elevator as we carried our bags down. The room was decorated beautifully with fabric lined walls and warm comforting colors. The room was spacious with room for our two suitcases, a closet, desk, and huge bathroom with a full bathtub. Compared to other hotels this was definitely above average. My only discomfort was the small dining area where breakfast was served, only 12-15 people can eat at once and while we ate breakfast others eagerly waited (Nice choice of pastries, cereal, and yogurt). I would reccommend this location for someone who is visiting Venice for the first time, I myself might want to stay somewhere that is off the beaten path having been to Venice a couple of times.

The best of 3 hotels we stayed at in Italy. Room very tastefully decorated and while not not very large certainly roomier than some. No views of canals, but we were lucky to be on the top floor with a small balcony with views of roofs of Venice. Bathroom new and clean. Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast was light continental. Location IDEAL. Directions could be a little more descriptive.

This is a comfortable small hotel, with extremely friendly, hospitable and competent staff, who put genuine effort into making us feel welcome and comfortable. The room was small, but with a balcony and excellent view towards the Grand Canal. Situated within three minutes' walk of St Mark's Square, it offers excellent value for money as a base for visiting this wonderful city. The breakfast room was a little small for the number of guests staying there at the time of our visit, but we had to wait for only a few minutes until a table became vacant and cleaned ready for our use. There is a bit of a lack of really good restaurants close by, but that is the fault of the St Mark's area, rather than the Lux Hotel. We thoroughly recommend it for comfort, cleanliness and value for money.

Tres bon hôtel, très bien placé par rapport au centre de Venise. Accueil très sympathique.Chambre très jolie, spacieuse et très propre. This hotel really is perfectly located to explore Venice. It is within a minute of St Marks square in a really nice street with lots of restaurants and cafes on the doorstep. Though I wouldn't reccomment eating / drinking in St Marks square, there are some real bargains in the nearby streets. The breakfast was fantastic, though there were not that many seats, and the room, though quite small, was really nicely decorated and was perfect for our 2 night stay. We loved our stay here and would reccommend it to anyone wishing to visit Venice. One of our favourite hotels in our two and a half weeks in Italy!
