I stayed in a room without bathroom. The common shower room is not very clean. I suggest using rubber slippers when taking shower there. The common toilet is fine. The warmer system in the room is controlled by the hotel. The hotel does not have elevator. Internet is available at one shared computer, and there is a service charge by hour. The location is great, very close to St. Mark's Square and public ferry system. The environment is quiet and safe, although my room has no view. The hotel does not let you carry the room key even you are inside the hotel. Say you are leaving your room for shower, your room has to be unlocked, or you will have to run up and downstairs to the front desk to get the room key.

Very bare bones place, not very clean, no screens, beware the aggressive mosquitoes. Considering the location, which is fabulous, and Venice being very expensive, Locanda Silva seems typical for the price. Breakfast not so great but the coffee was excellent. Would stay in a different neighborhood next time.

It is what was expected a clean and comfortable basic room. We had no canal view as we paid for the room without shower (Shower just outside and basic but it was clean and hot - what more can you ask). The bed was very comfortable and the service was pleasant. I would happily stay here again as we were right around the corner from St Marks Square and it was nice having the extra money to spend on a few luxuries whilst we were out. Why spend the money on a room you only sleep in.

Locanda Silva was a decent budget hotel. We had a hard time finding it. Venice is a difficult place to maneuver without a good map. I used my google maps on Iphone to find it. Some of the people at the front desk spoke English. The room was decent sized. We didn't have a bathroom in our room. We had to go down the hall for the toilet and shower. One of the showers was VERY dirty and overflowed, the other was clean. The room was clean. Not sure if we'd stay there again if we had other hotels in this price range to choose from. But I would recommend it for other budget travelers who don't mind using a bathroom down the hall.

Hotel Locanda Silva exceed my expectations for accomidations in Venice. The hotel is a bit of a trek from the main transit disembarkment for the wate rtaxi's, but the overall ambience and atmosphere in the surrounding areas was well worth the trek. The employees were accomidating and friendly and really made the stay very enjoyable.

Very nice stay. People is very friendly, room and bathroom were clean, location is excellent (less than five minutes from San Marcos)... I stayed on a single room without bathroom but according to the floor map it was only shared with another room so it was almost as having a room with a bath (shower was very small though). Smoking is not allowed but they have a little terrace where us smokers can "sneak" and have a cigarette.

Don't let my overall rating put you off - accommodation in Venice is very expensive and we were on a budget. This was the only place we had difficulty finding, but Venice is so different from any ordinary city; we took it in our stride. I actually enjoyed meandering through the town, hopelessly lost, even if it was on the 90s and our packs were too heavy! Our room was small and a wee bit tatty, but the bathrooms down the hall were clean, and the breakfast good enough. No lift, so be prepared to lug your bags up 4 floors - what better way to earn your first beer?!?! Great location close to Piazza San Marco, shops and restaurants - all vying for your trade, so offering good deals. We particularly liked the little shop where we bought our authentic handmade Venetian mask. The old old lady who ran it didn't speak any English, so she showed us how she made her masks, and we almost fell over backwards when she opened an unlocked drawer full of shining "oro" - gold nuggets and leaf which she used for the finishing touches!

Generally, i found the hotel locanda silva very good, clean, and quiet, and the employees seemed very happy to help. My only quibbles were that there was neither a safe nor a minibar in the room. From experience i have previously had with stays in hotels, i have kept my key with me whenever i went out. I was told to return my key whenever i left the building, and it seemed to irritate the registrars whenever i returned regularly.

The location of Locanda Silva is excellent as it is on a small canal with a very short walk to St Mark's Square. A charming place! The location was excellent, on a quiet back canal truly only 5 min stroll from Piazza San Marco, and actually quite easy to find once we got a detailed map. The room was absolutely perfect, on a corner with windows on either side, both overlooking the canals. In the mornings after being woken by church bells at a civilized 7:00 am, the local deliveries were made by boat and, later in the day, a constant stream of gondolas passed by. Staff was friendly, competent, and spoke very good English. The room was not luxurious, but clean, tidy and well presented; the same with the common areas. There was a sink and WC in the room; the shared shower was a separate cubicle down the hall -- tiny, but clean and adequate. Breakfast was typical continental-style (yogurt, but no eggs, cheese or meat) including freshly-baked croissants and excellent coffee served with a separate pitcher of warm, frothy milk. The double bed was something we have found typical in Italy, Germany & Austria; two twin beds joined together so there is a board down the centre between the two mattresses -- not the best arrangement for a young, active (*ahem*) couple, but OK for us. Our only complaints were the pillows (one each, and very meager -- we folded them in half) and the TOWELS -- not even terry-cloth, but just what the English call tea-towels or Americans call dish-towels! They were provided fresh every day, but they weren't adequate at all. Bring your own, if you can. Still, we would return in a heartbeat and heartily recommend Locanda Silva -- excellent value for money.

I stayed there for 3 nights. It's a nice, cosy place with friendly staff and it is situated very well in the heart of Venice, close to Piazza San Marco and closed to the "bus stop", the vaporetto, that replaces the buses. The bathroom was very tiny and the mirrors are for tiny people, however would recommend this place to anyone. There was no lift, so for people who have difficulties with walking up stairs, it might be hard. The Locanda Silva exceeded my expectations ( I am used to real backpackerhotels though)

Very comfortable, convenient accommodations in EXCELLENT location. Room size was typical and sufficient for couple in their upper-50s - nothing fancy (we like smaller, locally-run hotels). Ample continental breakfast for us; younger, more voracious appetites might want something more. Only real problem were obnoxious, loud neighbors our last night - they got STARTED around 4am and were still going loud and strong at 6:30am when we got up and left. Management should have done something to quiet them down. No wi-fi (that I know of on premises), but they did have a public computer for internet use - very handy (5 Euros got you 3 cumulative hours of service).

Locanda Silva provided a very efficient infrastructure for our fantastic holiday in Venice. The staff is most kind and helpful. The location is excellent, the street of the hotel is calm and nice. The furniture is simple, but certainly OK for staying for a few days. Our only concern is related to cleanliness: do not think any disgusting, but not the proper one... The breakfast is not sophisticated but a serious portion and, again, the service is really friendly.

Well located within a short walk of San Marco, and a relatively flat walk (imoportant when you are lugging heavy bags) from the Vaperatto stop. We loved Locanda Silva! It was our first night in Italy. Others have said it was difficult to find... we had a map and meandered our way there from the train station with no real problems, although it would have been a lot harder in the dark! The location was great: on a little canal close enough to San Marco and all the touristy stuff to be fun but far enough that it wasn't noisy or touristy right where you were staying. There were little patios outside with views of Venice rooftops and from the patio outside our room we could climb up on to the roof of the hotel where they had their laundry lines. We could still only see rooftops, but it was still so cute! The staff were very friendly, one of them had this cute dog and he told us all the places to see in Venice with the short time we were staying there. Great place, would definitely stay here again!!

This hotel is very central - within easy walking distance to major attractions. Hotels in Venezia are expensive, so the rates must be compared to establishments in the same city. On that bais it was very good value for money. Our room was very quiet - only a few pedestrians along a narrow walkway below with an occassional motor boat. We were very happy with the continental breakfast. A pleasant stay worth recommending.

I have to thank the other traveller who stayed at this hotel before to explain how to get to this hotel. If you depend on the description in the website, you can never find your way to the hotel. The staff was hopelessly unhelpful. When I asked for a map of Venice, I was told that the map is out-of-stock for a few days and need to wait for a few days for replenishment. Also, they were in the service industry however we being a traveller need to accommodate their working time. No check-out before 8am and after 9am. Besides, there was no lift or no help at all if you were carrying a heavy suitcase. To climb up 4 flights, please make sure you don't have big luggage. The room is pathetically small. I am sure there are better choice of hotel than this one.

Once found - following map provided on internet site was a nightmare (especially having travelled all day to get to Venice, temperatures hot, carrying bags and then my wife was abused by the waitress of the nearby main restaurant for daring to ask help in directions) - the hotel was in a good central location. Two flights of stairs to reception, then another two flights of stairs to room. Room very basic and in need of a spruce up. Breakfast adequate. Breakfast and domestic staff very friendly.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Locanda Silva. It's a wonderful, picturesque location and easy to walk from there to almost any part of Venice. Its reasonable price is also in strong contrast to costs generally in Venice. As others have said, finding the hotel when you first arrive with heavy suitcases is challenging and it would be helpful to have a simple map online with directions from St Mark's Square. But, other than that, we very much enjoyed the friendly service and the willingness of staff to chill our own bottles of Prosecco in the hotel fridge!

Very nice hotel recently refirbished. Clean rooms. We had a room without a bathroom but it didn't bother us at all. Our room was located right across from the shower and the toilet was at the end of the hall. There was a sink in the room, towels provided so that was very convenient. The hotel is very close to St Mark's square but in a quiet street over a little canal, very nice. The closest boat stop was St Zaccaria and it is a slight walk to the hotel but it's not bad at all. We were very pleased with this hotel and we would go back.

Easy to find via Piazzetta dei Leoni (back of Piazza S.Marco, your left of cathedral) or Calle Larga S.Marco. Turn left into C. d'Angolo & to right opposite hotel of that name. Go via Ponte/C.d.Remedio - follow signs for H.Colombina/Locanda Remedio - go past these two up a narrow passage (quite safe, as is all Venice). At the end turn left into Fondamenta Remedio & it's just past Loc. Canale (whose sign obscures Silva's). Excellent value (better than 1 star!) for its location (which is very quiet though), clean, with friendly staff (24 hour desk). Efficient, quiet air conditioning wall unit has individual control (also anti-mosquito plug-in control + shutters). No lift, but stairs not steep, so easy to manage. I had ensuite, but 2 toilets near my room looked clean. My room had no TV if that matters to you. Good communication by email. Of course, the biggest plus is the beautiful black cat which is the real owner! Will definitely use again - it seemed more Italian than many tourist hotels.

The location of the hotel is excellent - very close to Piazza San Marco and the major waterbus stop San Zaccaria, although it was a bit hard to find at the beginning just like any place, where it is impossible not to get lost in the tricky maze-like streets in Venice. The breakfast served was OK, not plenty food but the lady did make the best coffee in town. My only complain is that the one quadruple room that I have booked was not equipped with AC, as it was indicated that "all rooms have AC" in "Hotel Facilities"; there was a ceiling fan though, but it was so hot and uncomgortable those nights that we could hardly sleep. So here is one big "rip-you-off" right there...

Better Directions To Property. Although the hotel website provides small map, it is insufficient as the detail of cross streets is missing. Venice incredibly hard to navigate. Impossible with 80lbs of luggage over canals. Map to property needs to be larger with more detail including cross streets.

Well it's Venice, so expect to take at least one wrong turn. However, once found it is easy to find the second time. The hotel and staff are very pleasant. The location provides easy access to local sites and restaurants. The room is not air conditioned and though this did not cause too much grief, just a few uninvited mosquitoes. The room is billed as Double, and this meant 2 single beds, but we slept well and an extra pillow was provided on request. The costs in Venice are high, so this hotel provides good value.

I would certainly recommend Locanda Silva to any traveler on a budget. It is conveniently located right around the corner from San Marco Square. I stayed in a single room (14) that had a shared bath and shower (never had to wait on anyone). I had a fantastic view from my room of intersecting canals. Be prepared to put up with a bit of noise until later hours given the amount of traffic, but the views and price make up for any bit of noise. I read that some people had issues with finding the hotel. It's not that it's necessarily any harder than anything else to find in Venice. It's just different. I recommend using San Marco as your starting point and it isn't too hard after that. It's basically a few blocks northeast of the square.

I arrived at this property after an overnight stay in Milan. A rainstorm was leaving Venice as the train pulled into the Santa Lucia Station. I bought a 24 hour pass for the vaporetto and recommend this. It took about 45 minutes to reach the San Zaccaria stop. It took some effort to find the address, but found that getting lost is part of the romantic thrill of Venezia. I was greeted at the desk, by Frederico, who welcomed me and gave me the best, local, restaurant recommendation--Fiore, off the Campo Santo Stephano. This property was a perfect location, away from the tourist at San Marco. Breakfast was very simple, but the coffee good. You will need to check-out the day before, if you have an early departure, and buzz yourself out because there is no desk staff before 8am. Venice is the most romantic city I have ever visited and left part of my heart there.

Very good location. Less than 5 minutes from water bus stop and Saint Marco plaza. Quiet street along a little canal. Good dining area.

The room was very small but fairly warm (which is important in Italy generally during off-season!)and the breakfast was definitely not worth getting out of bed for, but the location was excellent and the staff was friendly enough.

I had a nice 5 day stay at this hotel. An excellent location, just 5 min. from St. Mark's Square. Nice breakfast, nice view. Very good bed. No shower curtain in the shared bathroom made it pretty wet getting dressed. Overall a very good value.

Although the accomodations were great the directions from the website were useless. The directions stop when you get off a vaporetta, so then its up to you to navigate through the mazes of the Venice streets to find the hotel. Ironically they have a nice brochure and map at their check-in desk! Breakfast was good and the hotel is close to everything! I would stay here again now that I know how to find it!

The hotel was fine for the price, pretty far from the center of the town but very good transportation. Nice little coffee shop for breakfast.

Good location, a few blocks from St. Marks. Rooms are clean, but look more like a hostel than hotel. Bathroom and shower is very small, smallest of my two weeks in Italy. Walls are very thin, heard someone snoring all night. Breakfast was two rolls, juice, coffee, cereal. Ho(s)tel is overpriced for quality, as are most hotels in Venice. If you just want a place to try and sleep, Locanda Silva is good, but I would try and find something better.

Location was excellent. Hotel caters for singles or couples. Despite 1* rating rooms were very clean and were serviced daily. I would definitely stay here again, but better information on how to find the property once you get off at San Zaccaria stop would have been helpful as unless you ask, the hotel was difficult to find.

Our stay was very nice, but there was 1 problem. The first was the fact that there was no air conditioning, which was a problem because it was very hot during our stay. The problem was even worse because there were no screens on the windows so we got attacked by mosquitos. We had to chose between being unbearably hot or being eaten by mosquitos. Otherwise the staff was very helpful, they showed us where to eat, where to wash our cloths, and were always very friendly. Not a bad choice for a budget accomidation, and the location is really out of this world.

I only stayed for one night, and though it was adequate, finding the property is extremely difficult, and the staff person I called on the phone was of no help. All she could say was, "Walk down the street straigt in front of you as you get off the water taxi." But there was no street, the water taxi drop off has 3 locations, and only ONE is in front of the street. Then you have to wind around 2 side streets to eventually locate the hotel. They really offer no assistance!

Location almost perfect. Just on the back of Sa. Maria Formosa and only 3-4 steets away from S. Marco. Goor price/quality ratio for short stays.

Though it was a little tricky to find the first time, this little hotel is perfectly located very near Piazza San Marco, the city's most famous landmark. We did not have a bathroom in our room, but the shared facilities were clean and almost always available. A satisfying breakfast was served as part of the cost. Really enjoyed this establishment!

Very nice hotel in a very central location. The owner was extremely nice and hospitable, and let us store our bags for the day while we explored Venice. We read one review prior to booking this hotel that advised us not to bring large amounts of baggage -- THIS IS TRUE. There is no elevator, and the stairway can be fairly narrow at points. The only other setback was we got eaten alive by mosquitoes at night since our room didn't have air conditioning. Aside from those minor shortcomings, our stay at Locanda Silva was wonderful -- breakfast was plentiful, the staff was kind and helpful (front desk speaks english, if you need them to), location was extremely convenient (and beautiful - water and bridge right outside the front door), and most importantly our room was AFFORDABLE (not very common near San Marco -- especially when paired with quality).

There was a very friendly staff, clean, spacious rooms with spectacular views, right in the centre of San Marco, Venice. Free an delicious breakfast and plenty of public space for lounging. I have stayed here twice and each time was great. I would definately recommend this hotel to others and will be returning every time I stay in Venice.

It is Venice; you are going to get lost. The hotel is in a great spot once you find it. Just get lost and enjoy the time you spend trying to find the hotel. The rooms are small, but it is a budget hotel. The price quoted by Venere is the same price that the hotel had posted on it's door (70 euros). The room is not sound proof and there is no air conditioning, but when we opened the window and heared the passing gondolier singing, well, it was all good.

Event though hotel´s rating is set up on one star only, we have found many aspects which were missing in some two-star hotels. Despite the increased presence of mosqitoes (due to Hotel´s location right next to the water), we really enjoyed our stay in this hotel. Strongly recommended for those want to spare some money on accomodation without any suffering from the quality point of view.
