this was my sixth trip to venice and the last two times i have stayed here. this is a gem of a hotel in a fabulous location, right on the grand canal overlooking rialto. the balcony off the public lounge totally makes this hotel so special, sitting watching the boat traffic coming and going from rialto with a drink in hand before going out for a meal. unbeatable!!! our room was clean and comfy with a very spacious bathroom in our three bed room. breakfast more than adequate, plenty to keep us going until lunch and the staff friendly and helpful. this is a lovely place to stay and the two friends i holidayed with were more than impressed. not to be missed.

"Room whith wiew" has indeed a fantastic scenary of Canale Grande to offer. Unfortunaty the breakfast was classical italian-almost nonexistant..

Location is ideal (a few steps from Rialto Bridge). Hotel street was on repair, but that's a temporary condition. Excellent attention and support from the employees. King size bed was for real a couple of twins put together, but no problem with that. Some recent damages in the bathroom (apparently caused by the previous guests). AC, Mini-bar, hair dryer, etc., OK. Common interiors in very good shape and clean. Room not luxurious, but clean and good for the purpose. Included breakfast fairly good. A very good option for three reasons: location, price and service.

Hotel horrible. No existía ventilación ninguna.

We had a room with fantastic canal view. We could see the Rialto-Bridge and the palazzi from our window. The boat-traffic on the canal grande ist always entertaining and amusing. If you prefer silence: a room with canal view ist not the right choice. But we enjoyed it very much.

This is a wonderful hotel overlooking the Grand Canal about a block from the Rialto Bridge. We splurged on a view room and it was well worth it! The room was very large and nicely furnished. The staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was included and gave us a good start to our day. We would definitely stay here again!!!

This is a beautiful hotel in a remarkable location. The room was lovely, clean, charmingly-decorated. The bathroom had a wonderful jacuzzi bath tub. While it was not spacious, there was enough room to be comfortable. The concierges were friendly and helpful. The location is great for site-seeing and easy to find. It's also in the middle of a row of restaurants that make it easy to find somewhere to eat. I have only positive remarks for the hotel and would stay there again.

We stayed at the Ovidius in 2004 and found the location to be most advantageous for seeing the wonderful sights of Venice. This, coupled with the friendly service, made us feel that we needed to search no farther for the best stay in Venice. A special thank you to Lucia who went out of her way to help us contact our families back home.

The hotel is in an excellent location opposite the Rialto Vaperetto pier on the Grand Canal. It occupies the three lower floors of the building, and is easy to reach on foot from the Rialto bridge. We were delighted with our room overlooking the Grand Canal. The airconditioning was efficiant and quiet, the bathroom was a good size for this historic type of property, and the view was fantastic - double glazing and shutters ensured a quiet night. Breakfast buffet was fine, and the hotel was quiet and efficient. Would stay there again.

We stayed in room 202 with 2 large windows opening to overlook the Grand Canal & Rialto bridge. It was awesome. The room was large & right off of the breakfast room. There is an excellent outdoor cafe right below the hotel. I would definitely return to this hotel.

Despite good reviews elsewhere, we were very disappointed with this hotel. Staffing levels were poor, which meant reception was left unmanned and often had a note on counter saying 'back soon'. We came in off the street to find our passports (given to hotel staff for registration purposes) left unguarded and very visible in a pigeonhole behind counter. My husband later had an argument with receptionist who refused to even acknowledge our concerns, less still apologise. On a few occasions when we wanted to go out, there would be the note again, asking us to go up to second floor to get receptionist so we could hand keys in. One of the days we didn't do this, not wanting to get back in the lift and go find him/her (surely not our job as guests!)our room wasn't cleaned. Room was small and dark. Breakfast too was disppointing - no fruit, just bread products and a bit of cereal. Location is fantastic, a couple of palazzi down from Rialto Bridge - couldn't be handier, but for the price, service and standards were pretty poor. I know your pound doesn't buy a lot in Venice, but while we will go back there one day soon, we won't be staying at Ovidius.

We (2 persons) stayed 6! nights during the last Week of September 2006 in this hotel. For that they gave us an extremely narrow room, argumenting in a bigger one they could place and sell a third bed more often, beause most guests stay no more than 2 - 3 nights. To me this is an example of extremely bad customer orientation and service. We won't book them a second time.

Locanda ovidius seems to operate a cynical best profit booking system. My daughter and son in law were booked in at Ovidius by me via a separate booking. On arrival I was allocated a room but the rest of the party was "bumped " to another hotel 20 minutes walk away. Apart from the immediate inconvenience of traipsing across bridges with luggage it meant the party was split for the rest of our stay and the rooms provided in the second hotel were presumably the least desirable available, being even more cramped for two than my single in Ovidius i.e inferior accommodation to that which could have been expected, based on a recommendation from friends. Interestingly, a honeymoon couple who followed us in for registration at Ovidius were similarly "bumped". Adding insult to the injury the manager refused to be contacted by us and the receptionist claimed they had tried to inform us ten days previously but had been unable to make contact. All in all an unpleasant start to a celebration holiday.

In a city as expensive as Venice this place was a real steal! Beautiful rooms with blissful air conditioning in a location that can't be beat; what more could you ask for? The pictures don't do the room justice with it's elegant padded wallpaper and beautiful Venitian glass chandeleer. Rooms on the side are nice and quiet, but don't miss the view from the breakfast room balcony!

This was our favorite hotel in Italy in our two week stay. The view from our balcony on the Grand Canal was breathtaking, the front desk staff were very helpful and pleasant, and our room was quite tastefully appointed. The only odd thing was taking a bath every night, since our room only had a tub with a hand shower, but that was actually quite enjoyable. We would highly recommend this hotel!

This hotel is a gem - we'd definately stay there again and recommend it. Stay a few nights in Venice if you can, it is wonderful! And it is best when the tourist go to sleep and you can wander around the streets in the peace of venice. Location: Right next to the Rialto Bridge on the Grand Canal. Housed in an old palace. Helpful Surroundings: Right next to the 'water bus' station. A 5 minute walk (if you follow the signs and don't get lost) to St. Mark's Square. Room: Large room, large bathroom, tiny shower but hey, you are in Venice - other things overshadow the shower. Beautiful touches like photographs and hand painted furniture. Very clean and quiet. On both floors, there is a public balcony overlooking the grand canal with chairs and tables, open all night. The breakfast room overlooks the canal -- you can get a better view than this, even if your room does not overlook the canal. It is a small enough hotel that the balcony feels like your private space. Tips: Don't eat at the restaurant downstairs (not affiliated with hotel) -- quite a rip off and poor food. We got in very late and had no other choices at that time. DO -- get lost in Venice - because you can't really "get lost". Wander around, take as many turns as you want and you'll find your way back. Take #1 Water bus for 1 euro to get the entire tour of the grand canal. Take a gondola ride in the day, prices go up to 100 Euro for 1/2 hour at night.

The hotel was lovely and the staff extremely kind and friendly. Our room was decorated nicely and very clean. Our only problem was that the air conditioning was entirely inadequate, despite their attempts to improve the situation. The weather was very warm (37-38 C) and we had to keep the room entirely closed up with the shutters all day long. That was a detraction in that we had paid extra to have a room on the main canal with a view of the Rialto Bridge and activity. Unfortunately, that was unavailable to us with the room closed up! The hotel needs air conditioning that works!

Great location, do not let the alley entrance mislead you. The Locanda is very bright and pleasant once inside. We had a nicely decorated room and brand new, very clean and well-equipped bathroom. The breakfast was great and there is a beautiful view of the Grand Canal from the breaksaft room, so even if your room does not you can enjoy the wiew while having breakfast. We thought that it was a great deal and would very well stay there again when we return to Venice.

The rooms and the situating off the hotel are very good. The breakfast can be more various maybe more a buffet where you can choose. The personal is very friendly and helpfull. The price off the rooms is high but the location is perfect.

The location was superb - right opposite the Ponte di Rialto - a much more interesting area to stay than San Marco. Great local atmosphere and, of course, great local Trattoria's! The view of the Grand Canal from our room was fabulous - you could hear and see the activity on the canal which meant we experienced Venice as the living city it is!

No elevator--my mistake. A/C fine, room clean, room large. Plumbing didn't work in bathtub to adjust water temp and drain. Finish coming off of fixtures. Breakfast acceptable. Desk clerk did give us excellent restaurant referral, Madonna (fish restaurant), outstanding. We went there two of 3 nights. This hotel was not as nice as the one in Florence with the same 3 star rating.

The staff were friendly, the room was as one would expect from a 2 star hotel and the location was excellent, however, the room had no heating at all and it was quite cold at all times which made it a bit uncomfortable. Highly recommended otherwise.

We have been to Venice a number of times. This stay, at the Locanda Ovidius, was without a doubt, the best. The rooms were very nice, the breakfast good... but the most outstanding thing was the staff. They were incredibly friendly and thoughtful... They even surprised one of our party with champagne and ballons on her birthday. They were fantastic!
