We were very satisfied with the location of the hotel and the staff. We intend to use this hotel again in the future and would not hesitate to recommend it. There was a good variety of restaurants in the area, shops etc. We were taking our daughter to stay in Venice for the first time - she thoroughly enjoyed her stay. The staff were very good and very helpful. It helped that they were fluent in english. The rooms were very clean. The breakfast was more than adequate and pleasant. The location was very good for St Marks. The hotel has a flight of stairs to the rooms but the stairs were not steep at all and they do have a chair lift. We read on Trip Advisor that this was a problem - but we found only if a visitor was fairly disabled it could be an issue. The hotel is a credit to the owners and the

My suggestion for the hotel - make a 10 point advise for tourists about best restaurants in Venice where You can have a meal for different budgets. Our experience is that all restaurants try to make a 150 eur bills for very poor quality. So, local expertise could be very helpful!

We loved this place. The room was massive and pleasant and the window faced onto the side street so there was some passing noise but nothing to cry about. Breakfast is okay, only one croissant each, but get in early for the Nutella. A great price to be so convenient between San Marco and Rialto, absolute perfect, out of the way location and a wonderful feel. We'd go back in a heartbeat!

This was an AMAZING location. The directions from the train station via water bus were perfection. I recommend water buses over water taxis. Much more affordable. After you walk off the pier for the 1 line, you walk straight up the alley. Walk up the alley to the left once you reach the dead end, then turn left past the shops and then right down another alley. I only say this because once you get off the boat it is a tad difficult to find the hotel. But just ask for help and you'll find it. Would DEFINITELY stay here again!!! Also, it's only a 10 minute boat ride to the island of Murano. A MUST!

The room was clean as were all the common areas. The staff was friendly however, they didn't quite speak the level of English I was expecting based on what I'd read about them before I booked. Also, they tended to recommend things to do and places to eat based on if (I believe) they were to receive a commission. The first time that happened we were confused because the lady explaining it had poor English. All we knew is that we were going to Murano in a water taxi. AT which point we were met with an English speaking guide with a cheesy sales pitch to buy his glass. It wasn't a bad experience because the taxi ride was nice and the glass was beautiful but it was just a weird situation. Then she recommended us to go to a "buenissima" restaurant in teatro fenice. Oh, but don't forget to tell them that WE sent you. Um, no thank you. A+ on the room. Staff was definitely nice but I wouldn't necessarily listen to their recommendations because they have ulterior motives.

This property is really more like a bed and breakfast as a American traveler would probably perceive it. It doesn't have a 24 hour staff. In fact, you are given a key to the front door of the hotel as no one is there to let you in after late in the evening. The staff was very friendly and worked hard to make us happy. Our room was stuffy as the Air Conditioning had not yet been turned on for the season. It was very expensive for the quality by American Standards, however, it is in Venice and you Pay for the location.

The Locanda hotel is a few minutes walk from the main (ferry) station and San Marco square. The hotel is Located in a quiet area, yet it's surrounded by many restaurants and the shopping area. The staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful. The room was relatively small, but I enjoyed my stay as my room got a Canal view which compansate the size of the room. Wireless connection is not available if you've got your laptop, however there was a PC available for guests to check their emails. As this was my first time at the Locanada Canal hotel, I will stay there next time I visit Venice.

Unlike hotels in other tourist locations we've visited, this hotel was really just a room to sleep in. There was no actual lobby, just a guy at a small desk at the entrance. Breakfast was pastries and packaged cookies that were probably purchased in local grocery stores. The night employee practically refused to give us another towel (had 3 towels for 4 people), then when I insisted, he pulled it from the closet and pitched it on the floor near me. But overall, it was a clean and comfortable room and nothing else from the hotel.

The hotel was hard to find and took some creative means to locate. The room was very small for 4 people. Venice is very "tight quarters" so this is probably the norm. The staff was friendly and the included breakfast was very well done.

As far the quietness issue, that was because of the noise coming from outside our window. The stret outside of our window had pallets that people had to walk over mad a clomping sound along with the windows not keeping out the noise very well at all. As far as the surounding issue, everything was great except for the same street outside of our window. I don't know who is suppose to maintain it,but it was the dirtiest street that we were on in Venice. Besides the pallets lying in the middle of it, there was trash, dog waste and a pile of dirt up against the building. Other than this, we had a very good and enjoyable experience. T he lady that took care of the breakfast bar and cleaned our room did an EXCELLENT job.

I stayed at Locanda Canal in early September 2008 and I found it to be an excellent choice. The biggest plus of all is that it is only a 5 minute amble from St Mark's Square. The staff are friendly and helpful. The second biggest plus is the lovely little balcony where you can sit and hear the men talk in their gondolas, or you can stand and see a lovely view of the canal. The amenities were also very good--excellent air conditioning, and an amazing shower. The room was clean and fine, if a little small. It was very quiet there, which was a bonus. The only real downside of the hotel was its breakfast, which was mediocre at best (no cereal (besides old corn flakes), no fruit, and no hot food (not even toast, I think)), with a tiny eating area with cramped tables. Still, even there there was a good point, in that breakfast is between 8 and 10, which is good for a late riser like me! Another negative which I did not experience is that I have heard that some people can book this hotel, only to find when they get there that they have to go to another hotel-but that didn't happen to me, and I don't think it applies to that many people. Overall, a really good experience, and I would definitely recommend it for anyone without children.

Excellent staff, that went out of their way to help. I arrived during a transport strike at 10pm at night so no ferries running. Had to use a water taxi at a rip off price. Even though he had the address of the location, he needed to stop and ring the hotel 3 times for directions. When I arrived at a landing near the hotel, the night receptionst locked up and came and guided me to the hotel. I met some nice people whilst at this hotel

A comfortable basic hotel. It is very centrally located - five minutes walk, at the most, from Piazza San Marco. One unusual feature; they ask you to keep you hotel keys with you when you leave the hotel because the door is often locked even during the day. Usually there is a receptionist present but apparently not always - they sometimes have to go to another property - so don't lose your keys. There seems to be only one floor for the rooms and there is no lift. Another thing; make sure you know where the hotel is situated as it is by no means the easiest place to find.

The location is excellent, overlooking one of Venice's many beautiful canals, my room had a private balcony and terrace, however, the Hotel Locanda Canal is NOT by any means a three star hotel as advertised. They have day-old danish and lukewarm hot chocolate for breakfast, and not much else. The hotel desk staff are not very helpful, they could not even break a 50 euro bill for me. I had to request another pillow because they are so flat. They are only a short walk to the Piazza San Marco, and have a great view from the room I had, but not any other rooms. I liked my room, but did not care for the hotel itself very much.

This was a lovely hotel to stay in. Excellent location and lovely service. The room we had was warm, clean and well appointed. We had a private bathroom (tiny shower) and the room contained a double bed, closet, desk and tv. Not huge, but certainly big enough! The breakfasts were really simple and nice - croissants, bread, pie, biscuits, grissini, coffee (delicious!), juice and cheese/jam etc. All staff spoke Italian and some English - enough for us to be understood anyway. It was also excellent to have a free Internet computer available to hotel customers. Our only concern with this place, was that we stayed here over New Year's Eve 07/08 so had to pay significantly higher room charges than we otherwise would have in the off season. Still, in comparison to other places in Venice at that time, it was well priced- 880 euros for two people for 5 nights. I would certainly recommend this place!

We reserved two days to stay in Locanda Canal, but ended up only staying one day due to our early morning flight from the airport, and our unwillingness to pay top dollar for a water taxi at 3 in the morning. Overall, we were very happy with Locanda Canal - we stayed in a room next to the breakfast area, but it was not terribly loud. We'd hoped to have a view, but our window opened up into a narrow, dirty alley. Again, it was fine - we didn't spend a lot of time in the room. The one disappointment was in having to pay for the 2nd night even though we didn't stay there, which is somewhat understandable. The breakfast was the most generous and varied of any of our Italian hotels, and the room was bigger than we expected. As I said, overall it was a perfectly acceptable room, and not overly priced (in comparison to other Venice hotels).

Get SPECIFIC directions! You cannot simply exit the vaporetto and stumble into the hotel. We wandered for nearly two hours in the rain, so irritated with each other that we finally split up on the bet that the last one to the hotel had to buy dinner that night....the kids and I won! Also, do not visit Venice without a compass and a very good map! All that said, the hotel was a good value and in a convenient central location. While the room was a little snug for four it met our needs, and the bathroom was downright spacious (see photo) which helped with changing clothes, etc. We didn't have a view as we were directly across and 8' away from a home, but it was nice to open the (two) windows and shutters over the road/alley below and still have privacy. The ceiling was very hight, and the furniture had a bit of character and style. Be sure to visit the Rialto Bridge, San Marcos, and the Grand Canal. DO NOT plan to visit Venice in a mere 24 hours, unless you are on a tour....especially if you are going to spend several hours lost in the rain with your luggage! Ciao.

My room was beautiful and very spacious. The bathroom is on the small size though. The staff, Claudio, Tuffik and Renato were very nice. The location is perfect, a couple of blocks away from St. Mark's Square. This was my first time in Venice, and looking forward to go back again. One tip: I had a very hard time trying to exchange traveller's checks. The exchange houses charge a very high percentage on the total amount, and not all of the banks take them, they only charge a one time fee that can go up to 15 euros. Most businessess would not take them. So do some research about using your own ATM card and what fees will be added every time you get money. The most important thing: Travel Light! As you are going to be doing a lot of walking to get to the hotel. Also, there is no elevator, and you will have to take your own bags to the 2nd floor.

excellent interior of rooms - you feel like in Medieval Venice; convenient location in the very center (3-4 minutes to S.Marco); nice surroundings (quite canal and typical houses); more than excellent selection of TV programs; small bathroom; breakfast is rather limited. generally, the hotel is really splendid; shortcomings are fully compensated by its advantages; when I come to Venice next time, I will stay in this hotel again. Price always seems too high, but compared to the market level and other hotel prices, Locanda Canal offers quite adequate rates

Map and directions were good. However, we missed the last turn on our first attempt because we didn't walk far enough into the little courtyard to see the small passageway on the right to the hotel. (We came from the San Zaccharia vaporetto stop.) But as getting lost in Venice is part of the fun, we didn't mind retracing our steps a few times until we saw a kind gentleman pointing towards the little passageway opening. Apparently this happens a good bit of the time.

I stayed in a single room at the Hotel Locanda Canal in Venice for four nights in April 2007, after booking it on Venere.com. The Locanda Canal is a three-star hotel, and the rate quoted was 120 euros a night. As things turned out, the hotel was perfectly suited to my needs. It was a five-minute walk from the San Zaccaria vaporetto stop, and the walk was entirely level (with no ups and downs over canals) so that I could wheel my luggage all the way there. It was my first visit to Venice, and the map provided at the hotel's own website was a godsend. (This matters. During my four days in Venice, everywhere I looked I saw lost tourists, toting huge amounts of baggage, searching in vain for their hotels.) As well, the hotel was only about a two-minute walk from Saint Mark's Square. The room was a typical size for a three-star hotel in Europe (and considerably smaller than a typical North American or Australian hotel room, of course). It even had a small terrace, with a table and two chairs, overlooking the canal below. It had a full tile bathroom which was a bit cramped, particularly to access the shower stall, but spotlessly clean. The room was elegantly furnished, as were the public spaces including the breakfast room. Breakfast was a perfect start to the day, consisting of croissants, fruit, yogourt, and coffee, served on small tables with linen tablecloths. There was also a computer station provided, at which hotel guests could check their e-mail. At check-out, the price I was charged for the four nights was exactly 480 euros. There were no surprise last-minute charges of any kind. Without question, I would stay there again and would recommend it to others.

The Locanda Canal has a good location and close enough to St. Mark's Square and next to another good square, San Maria Fromoso?. It was hard to find as most things are in Venice. Only complaint is our room (102) was next to the public bathroom and when entering/leaving the room the smell of the sewer system would be quite strong. Also, when using the A/C the same smell would permeate the room. However, the staff were quite friendly and we'd return if ever there again. Ciao!

I travelled alone, so had a single room, which was tiny, but I did expect that in Venice. However, it had it's own little terrace overlooking the canal, which was lovely. The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean and nicely furnished. The hotel was quiet, although only five minutes from St Mark's Square. Free internet access was important to me, as I needed to be in contact over some business. There is a lounge upstairs adjacent to the breakfast area, but no space in the tiny lobby downstairs to sit or bring guests. This didn't bother me, as I was only there for a few days, and spent most of my time out of the hotel. I do think the directions could be more specific. I was lugging a heavy suitcase and had to ask directions before I managed to find it. The breakfast is basic, but fine. The whole hotel is tiny, but well-decorated and run. Friendly staff. I would stay there again.

We were lost for a while as we tried to locate the property. We generally liked the room. It was not that spacious, but this was expected, having been to Europe before and seen the room sizes. The shower, however, can barely fit one person! The staff was very helpful including Alex and the owner, Claudio! We would definitely stay here again.

I would highly recomend the Locanda Canal. We had the Junior Canal Suit and were very impressed. Loved the light fittings.

Though located on a smaller canal, the Locanda Canal was not too difficult to find. The room was a little small, but not unexpected given the engineering challenge of building anything in Venice. Reception was very personal and helpful. Overall, we had a nice stay for the $$$

Extremely well located hotel with surprisingly luxuriously furnished room. Slightly cramped breakfast room but food made up for it. Would stay there again and recommend it to others.

Hotel location is very close to San Marco, but at the arraival time, bit hard to find it. On the other hand, quiet in the night and easy to access to the main public area of the town. People in the hotel are very warm, and help anything if I asked any questions or requests. Every time they think for the secure of the entrance of hotel, it feels very safe to stay. It is nice idea for you to stay this hotel when you are at Venice.

The only problem we had was finding the hotel. The reason for this was that the street plan in our Venice guidebook spelt the street name differently to on the hotel details. In our map the street is spelt Calle d Rimedio, instead of Fondamenta del Remedio as written on the hotel details. Hopefully this information will help others find the hotel easily. Apart from this we were very happy with our choice of hotel.

Overall, we were pleased with our short stay here. Nice sitting area with internet access. Breakfast is just basic, but okay. Room size and ambiance excellent for the pricing. In a pretty setting. Neighborhood is a little farther from the vaporetto than we expected. If you're walking with heavy luggage from the vaporetto it can be a little hard. Location is good for getting to main places in Venice.

When I arrived at the hotel, the person at the desk told me my single room was not available, but they had a room for me at their sister hotel. Since I had read about this common occurance on other Venere rated hotels, I wasn't totally surprised to hear this. The person at the desk walked me to the other hotel, which was smaller and not quite as nice as this one. However, the room was extremely quiet, clean and I was satisfied with the place overall.

This hotel is a good choice if all you want is a room in Venice. There is no lobby to speak of and the breakfast was so so at best. Our room was nice but the bath room was extremely small. The shower was so small we couldn't bend down to wash our feet! The location is great but hard to find. Once you get aclimated to Venice it's OK. The hotel bosts a canal view. It's a small canal that we discovered was used to unload supplies in the morning. At 7:00 am in the morning we were awoken by the sound of beer kegs being unloaded from the boat. Overall it's an integral part of Venice, if you want to be in the middle of things, this is a good place to be. The desk clerk was very pushy about a certain restuarant he wanted us to use as well as a boat trip to an island to buy Venician glass. It made us feel like he was benefiting from it.

I chose this hotel as I particularly wanted to be close to S. Marco. It was a couple of minutes walk away and not too difficult to find. However, we had booked a Junior suite and were not told until we arrived that this was in the second hotel, some five to ten minutes walk away and not where we wanted to be. Apart from this everything else was very good. The room was small but beautiful, very clean and comfortable with two balconies overlooking the canal (a bit noisy during the night). We were given a very warm welcome and had nothing to complain about. Staff were very friendly and helpful and we were able to leave our luggage all day after we had checked out as we had an evening flight. The price represented very good value for money and I would definitely use it again. Very charming.

We were initially very disappointed as when we arrived after a long day's travelling we were checked in and then told that the hotel was full and we were to be put in the annex. We had booked three months in advance and could not understand any reason for the overbooking. We felt, although we were not told this, that we might have been singled out for this as we had already booked and at 7.30pm after a long days tavelling we would just accept it rather than start looking for an alternative hotel. We agreed to stay for one night and review the situation in the morning. At this one of our two booked rooms was immediately upgraded to a junior suite, and the folowing morning our second room was also upgraded (we subsequently discovered that the second suite had been avaialbale the first night as well). We therefore agreed to stay for the remaining three nights. All other aspects of our stay were excellent, and if indeed we had been offered the upgrades on arrival without having to demand tem we would have little to complain about at all.

Because of odd scheduling, I was only in Venice from 9pm Sunday through 8am Tuesday. The Locanda was a great base from which to begin/end walks of the city. I covered a lot of ground and always had a good place to come "home" to. The single room was small, but clean and comfortable. The breakfast was good and the staff all friendly and helpful. I plan to return to Venice and the Locanda in 2006.

Was a little hard to find. Can be scary at night to walk thru the alleys to the main square, especially if you arrive for the first time at night. Also long flight of stairs up. The room was nice though and well kept and had satelite TV. Nice quaint antique furniture. Price could have been lower.

We spend with my wife a lovely week end in Locanda Canal. This hotel is very quietand a few steps to the center or Venice, we had a little junior suite very space, but the bathroom wasn't (too little for us); But no problem to stay 3 days. The welcoming was very cordial, and without any problem it was possible to leave our luggages in the room the last day up to the end of the afternoon. The breakfast good (excellent coffe) It's a charming hotel to stay 2 or 3 days for people who want to be quiet

Generally a good place to stay for the proximity to St Mark Sq. Unless you opt for the "suite", the other rooms are really small but that's quite the norm in Venice. The suite however has some problems with the heater and can be fairly cold at night. Breakfast is not fantastic but the fact of its location still makes up for its inadequacies. Late checkout is not possible though. Would i stay there again??? Maybe I'll try another place along the grand canal

We - my daughter and me - stayed at Locanda Canal in October 05 and we were pleased to have choosen this place. The people were very friendly and helpful. But the most helpful was a perfect description how to find the place starting with a vaporetto at Piazzale Roma. I've received this discription on demand and I recommend everybody to do so, otherwise it is really difficult to find this little nice hotel. I wouldn't hesitate to choose this hotel once again.

Although in a nice location, we found this hotel a disappointment. The photos indicated that the rooms would be far larger (we needed an extra bed and had to change rooms as the first was so cramped). Both times our rooms lead straight into the breakfast area - we heard the tables being laid around 2.30 am every morning! Also, wasn't great having the staff loo next to our second room (used before or after the table laying). Other qualm was breakfast tables scarcely big enough for one person, let alone three, and breakfast itself wasn't that good. Front of house staff were very nice, but think we'd go elsewhere next time, it was expensive for what we got.

WE STAYED AT THIS CHARMING HOTEL FOR 3 NIGHTS AND LOVED IT. THE STAFF ARE VERY FRIENDLY, KNOWLEDGABLE AND HELPFUL. THE BREAKFAST ROOM IS VERY SMALL, OTHERWISE, IT IS A PERFECT PLACE TO STAY IN VENICE. WE HAD THE JUNIOR SUITE (FOR LESS THAN MANY OF THE VENICE HOTELS CHARGE FOR A SINGLE ROOM) AND IT WAS SPACIOUS AND LOVELY. THE HOTEL IS CONVENIENTLY LOCATED, THERE IS A WATER TAXI STOP VERY CLOSE BY AND THE STAFF MADE DINNER AND TOUR RESERVATIONS FOR US. WE WOULD DEFINITELY STAY HERE AGAIN AND YOU SHOULD TOO.
