I had a small single room with its own shower room on the other side of the corridor, which was fine. It was dark but there was a nice view of the side canal, and in Venice at this price and this fantastic location there's nothing to complain about. (Maybe the walls were a bit thin! But nothing else.) I had a very enjoyable stay and wouldn't hesitate to book again.

Excellent hotel at the Canal di Giudecca. Friendly staff. Quiet surroundings. Near Accademia Museum and Peggy Guggenheim collection. Hotel very easy to rech by public water transport, stop local waterbuses and waterbus to airport within 2 min. from hotel. Enjoyed my stay. JvP, France.

After a 14 hour journey by plane and water taxi to Venice, we arrived at La Calcina. We found our room was right above the kitchen. We were greeted by odors of intense cigarette smoke from the kitchen staff below, strong garlic and cooking odors, and extremely strong cleaning solution odors. We have allergies and asthma, and we had contacted them by email when we booked to confirm that there would be no strong scents in our room. They replied that they would meet our request. But even someone without allergies would not have enjoyed staying in this room. We then went to the front desk and met with Antonio, one of the managers. We informed him of the unacceptable situation in our room. He was very pleasant and he showed us several apartments managed by La Calcina located a few blocks from the hotel, one of which we agreed to stay in. It was located in an alley with a view of a brick wall. The apartment was located up two flights of stairs. The apartment was spacious, but one of us had to sleep on a fold-out sofa that squeaked. The main reason we booked this hotel was for a nice view, and we got the opposite. This was a stressful and exhausting experience. The breakfast was not very tasty. The coffee was usually cold.

I decided very last minute to go to Venice for the Easter weekend and to celebrate my birthday and was surprised to find that there was quite good availability. After wading through the choices I settled on La Calcina mainly for its location, value for money and its very good reviews. I can't fault this Hotel for what it is. A small charming 3 star residence in a fabulous location right on the Guidecca canal with lovely views and sunshine and very friendly professional staff. Its also literally a few minutes from the Zattere boat stop and the Alilaguna blue line public water bus from the airport takes about 1.30/40 minutes. If you have bulky luggage and/or children its incredibly convenient and easy access to this hotel. Another deciding factor on where to stay was that I wished to visit the Peggy Guggenheim gallery and also the Andrea Palladio churches on Isola San Giorgio ( fabulous and amazing view from the campanile and no crowds!!) and Guidecca so the obvious district to stay was Dordoduro which is where La Calcina is situated. It was with extreme ease that I was able to get to all these venues and more from the hotel. The Guggenheim ( well worth the visit) and the Academia bridge and gallery are very close together and can be reached in less that 10 minutes pleasant walk along one of the canals and side street close by. Guidecca and the churches offer a lovely vista from the hotel as well as the long views and sunshine and also incredible sunsets. It was a delight to come back to this hotel after a long day sightseeing, the public areas whilst not large are comfortable the restaurant charming and well staffed and when the weather is good there are lots of outside tables and also another restaurant on a deck above the water. ( as it was easter and still quite chilly it was closed when I was there but one can see it would be lovely place for evening drinks and dinner because of the light and views) There are a lot of very interesting "off the beaten tra

The location is great, and the overall atmosphere in the hotel as well. Service is very friendly. I had only a room without view, which was fine for price and quality. Next time I would try to book a room with view. The hotel is very clean and nicely furnished. I would return to this hotel on my next visit to Venice!

Sehr empfehlenswert an ausgezeichneter Lage. Manchmal etwas lärmig durch den Wasserverkehr. Sehr gutes Restaurant. Speziell: Gartenlokal direkt am Wasser. Alles gut zu Fuss erreichbar. Auch zu Wasser problemlos, vor allem mit Veneziacard von "Hellovenice".

This hotel facing the canal was good with stillness at a calm location. I was surprised at the single room for a narrow impression a little than I thought. I was sorry that most of neighboring restaurants closed by the off-season. I had supper once at a restaurant. A large number of visitors visited the restaurant by chance in the day on that day, and there became a few night menu choice. It was disappointing. I think that it is a good hotel generally.

My room was tiny but very quiet. There was a patio with a table and chairs but as it was raining I didn't have the chance to enjoy it. My only problem is the lot of stairs in my own room: stairs down to go to the bed and stairs up to go to the WC. However, the WC was great with a big bath tub!!!

La Calcina is perfect in almost every way. The location is on the geudecca canal facing south, so the restaurant and outside dining pick up every ray of sun on a winters day. (might be hot in summer)My single room was small,(but who needs big), it was immaculately clean, had a view of the canal. Breakfast was typical fare, but you could order a hot breakfast (extra)if you chose. The staff were very accomodating and multilingual. They made everything easy. La Calcina is "genteel", quiet, old fashioned, POLITE, and lovely. It is easy to get to from the airport (take Alilugna Rosa line to Zattere for 13 Euros) It is less than a block to La Calcina with NO BRIDGES! Grand Canal Accademia bridge about 3 blocks. The area is quiet with no huge tour groups wandering about. Zattere has no shopping to speak of which probably keeps the numbers down...but it has several restaurants and bars and gelaterias. would not recommend this hotel to families. It is not the place to go if you want to be in the thick of things. For a few days of peace and charm, and service, Perfecto!

The hotel was excellent. People very kind. The breakfast was excellent and served in a beautifull table with a nice view of the channel. However, I must say that I was a bit angry because in the reservation they offered a room with private toilette. The actual room didn't have a toilette. I had a private toilette (only for me) but in other part of the hotel. This was very unconfortable! They said that this was the only room like this they had, and that next time the would give me one with a "real" private toilette. I would come back to the hotel if the give me a room with private toilette.

My experience in Hotel La Calcina is perfect! Although the room is a little small, but is very clean and well decorated. The hotel is located just in front of the canals, where you can enjoy the beautiful view, and you can go to St. Marco by foot or by vapoury boat conveniently. The staffs are all very friendly, and the breakfast is excellent! There are lots of choice in breakfast, which is very rare in Italy.

We had the ultimate "room with a view". Location is excellent - a short walk to St Marco but away from the crowds. Also, right next to the water bus stop from the airport. The restaurant takes some beating too. In summary, not a cheap place to stay but we felt it was worth every penny (Euro).

I loved this place. Was only able to stay one night, but it made a lovely break between the end of a cruise and catching the plane home. Location is superb, wonderful view, close to cafes and gelato (!) and only a few steps from the vaporetto and Alalaguna stops at Zattere. Pretty, calm, peaceful room with comfortable bed and better-than-average breakfast buffet.

It was my first stay in Venice and I enjoyed all of it. Hotel La Calcina is an excellent address in Venice, quietly located at the Giudecca canal. The Vaporetto stop is just 100m away, the Ponte Accademia in 5 minutes walking distance, teatro La Fenice in 10 minutes. The room was not huge, but o.k., I got a single room with bathroom across the corridor, but that was according to the booking and absolutely fine for me. Nice the small cabinet in the room with a sink. The single room had not a view over the Giudecca canal, but to a small side canal, nice mumbling of the water in the night... The price: well, it's Venice, and for the quality and the absolute calm location it's o.k. The staff is very friendly, both at the reception and in the restaurant, where the hotel offers a special dinner menu for hotel guests: very good dishes and good quality open wine. Nice view to the Giudecca canal. Also the breakfast buffet (included) was good, excellent coffee.

Pleasant stay, next time would have double for single occupancy as single rooms a bit small/dark and near human traffic on stairways. This hotel better if you don't need St Mark's Square as that was a bit of a hike every day (for Carnevale), otherwise lovely sunny location on Zattere great for soaking up the sun and eating ice cream even in January! Nice restauarants, gelaterias and even a Billa supermarket nearby. Excellent connection with boats for Piazzala Roma then buses to airports.

Beautiful location on the Zattere. Quiet environment. Easy to reach. Our room was located near the staff staircase and above the kitchens so was a little noisy early in the morning. Excellent location in a lovely part of Venice. I had a frustrating experience at this hotel. The website says that every room has a bathroom and TV, but the single I reserved had neither.
