The hotel room was even better than the phots showed. But hard to find, a more detailed map is definately needed. The room over the canal entrance is noisy in the early mornings, with the water barges deivery. Sandro at the front desk was very welcoming. Overall, a fantastic hotel, at very resonable rates for what it delivers.

A great hotel in a great location. Quiet at night but central to everything ... 5 min walk either to Rialto Bridge, to San Marco or Accademie. Concierge Francesco was very knowledgeable and helpful...from restaurant recommendations to arranging gondola ride from the hotel doorstep. I would definitely go back to Duodo when we return to Venice....

Very nice and well positioned hotel; a little difficult to find but the trick is to look for Fenice Theatre. Our air conditioning was a little noisy and we were unable to switch it off. With a little ingenuity we were able to keep the windows open. All in all an enjoyable stay.

Very nice, although a bit hard to find walking, would be good to direct people to opera house then start the directions from there. Also, room smelled musty at first, and we had to ask front desk to turn on air conditioner, whereas it appears in the room that the thermostat would work, but it didn't.

Great hotel, very good value for a good 4 star accomodation. All the staff we met were very welcoming and friendly. Position was fantastic, directions were great and now there are some very helpful signs on street corners, to help. We had a room overlooking the canal, with Gondoliers singing as they go passed. A great place to stay, would stay again for sure.

When we arrived desk manager was great. Friendly, helpful and went out of his way to get info for us. One who came next not as good or knowledgable. Loved the hotel location. Close enough to easily walk to San Marcos Piazza but on a quiet backstreet and small canal. Would recommend to anyone unless they want excitement and room service.

The hotel is nice and in the heart of the Saint Marcus area in Venice. It has its own gondola pier by the reception. Beautiful! Walking distance to "everything". The staff in the reception is nice and welcoming. The only bad things was the a little too tiny (but nice though) room and the breakfast which was not very "four star". And when you pay almost € 200 for a room per night you should not have to pay four euros extra for a boiled egg for breakfast...

This was a fantastic hotel and since venice is extremely expensive for hotels, the price/ quality of the duodo palace was well worth staying. the only negative thing is actually finding the hotel, which was at the end of a small cul-de-sac in a small road which was not named on our map! we had to ask loads of times! a good indication would be near the Fenice Theatre. in fact I have a feeling that on this websites the hotel is not marked exactly. in venice it is already difficult to find somewhere with all the tiny streets! Obviously you can arrive by taxi boat, from the station it would have cost 75euros which I feel excessively expensive. we left by foot to rialto bridge and caught the vapouretto to the station, for 6.50 per person. as for the hotel, everything was perfect from the minute we arrived. the breakfast was nice, although the waiter was a bit overwhelmed by everyone arriving at once. a fantastic place to stay. our room (201) had 5mtr high ceiling with beautiful old painting, and felt very special. very quiet room due to dead-end road. sorry not to be able to afford to stay longer!! we were there for the carnaval which everyone must see once in their lives. magical!

We arrived early and were shown straight up to our room as it was all ready for us. We had made a request for a cot which was in the room all ready for our 4 month old boy. We were only slightly disapointd with the breakfast. But on the whole what a fab hotel and 1st class staff very very helpful 5 star service. The location was excelent and to add to the romance and splender you can arrive by water taxi just sheer elegance.

During reservation process I was supprised to have a 4-star hotel with such a good price for standard double room. Once I arrived it was clear: the hotel is really good but the room was at the attic, and we had to climb a flight of narrow stairs from the last lift post to get to it. But everything else was excellent. Room was nice, just as presented at the photos on Venere, bathroom perfectly clean and fully equipped. Breakfast consists of small buffet which is quite sufficient and of good quality. Receiption was very professional and efficient. The receptionist even spent some time with us giving us a usefull Venice map and explaining basic turist routes. It is a bit difficult to find the hotel because it is situated in a dead end ally, but ask waiters along the way and you will find it in no time. Hotel has quite a central postion in the city, and it was very easy to reach all the ammenities. We reccomend Duodo palace to Venice visitors and we would come back gladly.

Duodo Palace is in the heart of the Venice, but was difficult to find from Academia vaporetto stop. Getting there entailed crossing two bridges with luggage. Recommend using St. Marks Square vaporetto stop. Still challenging to find, but one less bridge to cross. Room was quite nice and on canal, which could be noisy at times, but was definitely fun to watch.

This is the perfect hotel for a stay in Venice; being a converted palace. It is very worth while booking a de-luxe room as they are magnificent - the ceiling of our room alone was worth the visit. I had Emailed a few days before to give our time of arrival and asked if it might be possible to have a room overlooking the canal. Although they could not guarantee this at the time, this is exactly what we got. You get regular serenades from the passing gondoliers. The staff could not have been more welcoming and helpful. Two minor problems: not the easiest to find and arriving by boat is probably the best option. Also the Venetian restaurants in general are poor quality for the prices charged - especially in San Marco. Try to find where the locals go - if you can find a local! Trattoria al Madonna near Rialto was the best value we found. If you want to go to Murano for the glass you can let a tout find you in San Marco and you will get a free taxi ride there. However you have to resist the very hard sell you get on arrival but keep the salesman happy and you will get a good tour but whatever you do don't buy anything! -It will mean you just have to find your own way back! Our visit was to celebrate my wife's 60th birthday and she could not have asked for a better present - and I got to share it.

This is a very nice 4 star hotel, convenient to all the major spots such as Rialto, Piaza San Marco and a stone's throw from La Fenice theatre. I would recommend it. Rooms and facilities are exactly like those shown on website : clean, usual Venetian styling / decor, pleasant and excellent service and concierge : I found no evidence of poor service at all( on the other hand I am not a loud mouthed American tourist). It's quiet at night, most of the gondolas have gone by then and the windows are soundproofed. There are signs to it from the piaza at La Fenice theatre, but the laneway is a little tucked away. If you can afford it, arrive and depart by water taxi to the door - this was not a problem at all for the taxi "driver" to find, and is a very nice sightseeing trip as well, both from the train station and to the airport. I would return there again in a flash. Prices were commensurate with the location.

We stayed at the Duodo Palace in October 2007 for two nights on our honeymoon and loved it. The building is clearly a beautiful recent renovation and the staff are all incredibly professional. All of the staff spoke English. We had a canal-side room, which was very quiet even when the early-morning gondolas started passing by. The hotel has a canal entrance which means you may take a water taxi right to the front door, but if you take the vaporetto, as we did, you'll need to get good directions to find it since its tiny back-street doesn't show up on the 3 euro maps of Venice. Luckily, there is an information office right next to the vaporetto stop. They fixed us right up. There's one bridge between the vaporetto stop and the front door, so be prepared to lug your bags up and over. The 200 euro double room rate we paid was well below the 600+ rack rate (off-season, I guess) and worth every cent. It's a short walk from the hotel to all of the San Marco sites as well as the Rialto Bridge and beyond. Your stay includes breakfast, which we found to be superb. They clearly cater to American and British visitors judging by the availability (and popularity when we stayed) of regular (non-espresso) coffee and tea. I highly recommend the Duodo Palace.

Access the hotel by private water taxi (expensive) as it is a 10 minute walk over two bridges to St. Marks square and the public water taxi service. The hotel is on a canal. Rooms sizes are okay as most hotel rooms in Venice are on the small size. The Theater Resturant located around the corner from the hotel and near the Teatro La Fenice was excellant. Internet WiFi service was available in the lobby area only, and was not a problem.

Our first and hopefully not last visit to the Duodo Palace was absolutely spectacular! Michele, the concierge, was always there with the correct answer besides being the best concierge we had in Italy. The room, 307, was a dream. My fiance and I both were born, raised and still live and work in New York City and the accomodations we are used to here in hotels were exactly what we expected from the Duodo Palace, first class and that is exactly what the Duodo Palace is. I highly recommend the Duodo PAlace to anyone visiting Venice.

The service and hotel were of top quality and we had no complaint over any of our long weekend stay. We stayed in Room 307 which had the balcony overlooking the passing gondolas - very romantic. Staff recommended some lovely restaurants, tours, and gondolas nearby. The hotel is tucked away off the main walkways, so can be difficult to find at first. The hotel however arranged a private taxi to collect us from the airport which took us straight to the hotel. a highly recommedned hotel which we will gladly stay in again.

We were very pleased with the reception and the facility The reception deskpeople were very receptive, prompt and courteous. The hotel does not have restaurant facility so the breakfast space and offerings kind of modest. We would not hold this against the hotel, We would return to this facility at any time and we would not be hesitant to recommend it to others. Price possibly a bit high, in off season, but we haven't been in Venice for some years! I can unreservedly recommend this hotel as both my wife and I found it and its staff extremely welcoming and efficient. Even though we made no mention of the fact that the trip was to celebrate our first wedding anniversary the management somehow found out and presented us with a complementary bottle of champaign. We also managed to book room 307 as recommended in a Venere review and can safely say they were absolutely correct in their description of the room, its balcony and the overall atmosphere of the place (roof top views and singing gondolas passing underneath). We also found with the help of a reasonable map the hotel was not as difficult to find as previously feared. All together this hotel complemented our stay in Venice perfectly.

I took another reviewer's advice and booked room 307, which has a small balcony and arrived by private water taxi direct to the door. Now that's the way to arrive in Venice after flying all night! No, it was not inexpensive, but then nothing in Venice is. The gondaliars travel under your window singing which is very cool if your taking a 4:00 nap.

LOVED the Duodo! The room was small, but luxurious. The lobby was very special, and the service was personal. The location was wonderful...on a small canal, but quite private, with entrance down a small side street. The campo next to the Fenice just around the corner was our favorite campo in Venice, with several excellent restaruants nearby. Wonderful coffee service which was prepared for me to take to the room for two, so my wife could have her morning coffee in her robe [important to her mood!]. Great stay! I just hope the prices don't go up too much before our next trip.

Nice hotel in good location once you find it. It was the "finding it" that was the problem. With two large and heavy suitcases and their directions from their website, I spent an hour asking locals to help (none of which knew the street or the hotel). We were pleasantly surprised to find a 4-star hotel in Venice at this price. The room was immaculate, comfortable and larger than we expected, the staff was helpful, and the breakfast was excellent. Even though it was a ten-minute hike from the vaporetto, it was convenient to just about everything once we learned to find our way to its quiet back-street location. A really nice place to stay, although you have to accept that Venice and the citys price level is very high. I recommend room Nr. 307 (it has a small balcony, the gondolas pass by directly under your room and the 3rd floor is the right level to look over the rooves. An ideal place for honeymooners or for a romantic weekend. If you really want to arrive romantically you should take a Taxiboat (about 65.-€ and arrive directly from the waterside entrance) price per day 250.- €(06_2004) (Breakfast incl., for your breakfast in your room additional 10.-€ are calculated) Just do it and E N J O Y V E N I C

An excellent up market hotel. If I had any criticism it would be the lack of wardrobe space to hang clothes and for the first time visitor to Venice, the poor directions on how to find the hotel particularly when travelling by public transport.

The 150E rate was wonderful for a 4star hotel. 5-10 minute walk to St Mark's Square, slightly longer to Rialto. Vaporetto stop a bit far if you have much luggage (better to take a water taxi particularly if more than 2 people). Good continental breakfast (with option of eggs and breakfast meat for additional cost). Very pleasant and accomodating staff. Quiet area for sleeping.

Wonderful hotel. Perfect location, tucked away on a quiet canal, but right between St. Marks and Rialto Bridge so just a short walk to everything. Service was wonderful, and made us feel right at home. Our room was very spacious and well maintained. We'll recommend to any of our friends visiting Venice.

It was a nice hotel, location was ideal and staff were efficient and friendly. The room we had was probably slightly smaller than we had expected and the room we had was equiped with facilities for disabled persons. We would have preffered not to have been allocated this room. ie seat in shower area and no bath. But this did not deter from our overall enjoyment of the hotel.

Some difficulty finding the address - we needed a detailed street map. However, once we found the hotel they gave us a warm welcome, the service was faultless and the value for money was unsurpassed in Venice. The hotel recommended a good quality local restaurant where we ate alongside Venetians, not tourists. The hotel building is sympathetically restored and the rooms are spacious, quiet and full of character. Would highly recommend.

The hotel was exactly as others had described (their reviews were the reason we picked it). The lobby was warm and inviting. The staff was friendly and professional. Our room was on the fourth floor with a window overlooking the rooftops as most buildings in Venice are only 3 stories tall. The linens were luxurious and the marble bathroom was beautiful. The location could not have been more central being a short walk from St. Marks or the Accademia. I think anyone looking for a moderately priced hotel (for Venice) would find this to be an excellent choice.
