Come here for the full Venice experience. The first floor dates from the 15th century.Picture yourself overlooking a small canal with neverending gondolas from your 2nd floor room. A bit noisy in the morning as the gondoliers (canotieri)are parked outside washing down their gondolas, but who cares! Room #3 is quaint with old Italian furnishings (a bidet & sink in one corner.) Shared bathroom (always empty.) a ceiling fan. We loved our room!so romantic! The breakfast is good by Italian standards.Did I say it was next door to Piazza San Marco? Just the next bridge over from the Bridge of Sighs. We will return again.

Cheapest hotel we could find in Venezia. Not super clean, but comfortable enough for a couple of days. Breakfast was among the worst we had in the month we stayed in Italy. Shared bathroom was clean. Good location: at a 5 minutes walk from Piazza San Marco. Our door didn't close well. As a result, we could here the floors cracking and people talking in the corridor.

Nice small hotel with a GREAT location right at St. Mark's Square that you couldn't beat. But if I had to do Venice over again I might have paid an extra 20-30 euro a night to get just a little bit more services and maybe a tv in the room.

It really is only a few steps from San Marco Square(the heart of Venice) so its within walking distance of most of the best sites in Venice. If your not keen on forking out good money for a water taxi get a map from the tourist info and try walking. It only took my wife and I 40 minutes. Great hotel, even better location. I'll be coming back for sure

I was afraid being near Piazza San Marco would put me too close to the dense tourist offerings, but the surroundings are a little less dense and still offer many places to eat and interesting shops. Local neighborhoods are close by. Towards the arsenal is a quiet residential area. Campo Santa Maria Formosa is a nice place to have a 5:00 apertif, and Ruga Giuffa is an interesting street. The Acqua Alta bookshop is near S.M. Formosa - they have the Euro Cart map of the Venetian Lagoon. Finally, you can get to Doni from the San Zaccharia vaparetto stop without going up or down any stairs on bridges!

It was all as described on the hotels homepage and as rated by other guests. I would definitely go there again! Possibly with a bathroom en suite next time. The breakfast was poor- but this is Italy. You can get the perfect Espresso right around the corner for 90 cent! That's 'al banco' of course...

Be aware that bathroom is to share with other persons. No soap provided and very tiny and thin towels. Noisy early in the morning with the motors of boats and machines. No shutters at the windows - only an old curtain.Don't be late for breakfast if you want to have bread. Excellent situation of the hotel so near everything, especially the vaporetto to go to the airport and to go along the main canal.Very kind and helpfull family owner.

Given the expense of Venetian Hotels, I was very pleased to find a clean, homely, family run Hotel at an affordable price. This is a traditional Hotel without TV or internet point in the room, just basic comforts. It is in a very old Venetian Gothic building and has character and a slight patina, which adds to the experience of Venice. I had a single room with a shared bathroom and it was very quiet and comfortable. The Hotel is graded as one star (which seems under valued to me) and was just what I wanted at a price I could afford. Please Note there is no lift and the stairs are steep.

Hotel Doni is in the heart of the City, in a quiet, cozy and beautiful side canal. If you don't mind about having luxury facilities within the hotel (while still having all you need for a good hospitality), you'll enjoy this place and the beautiful surroundings! The building dates back to 1700, which adds a bit of further fascination to your whole staying.

Cheap family-run hotel with a very nice atmosphere in a brilliant location. Cleaning ist ok, but not better. Only 2 bathrooms and 3 toilets (as far as we could see) for all the rooms, but it is not a problem, we never had to wait and they were always clean enough.

Very clean, nice, and covenient hotel. It is a very interestintg SXVII building, with antique furnishing that makes it very "venetian". Bathrooms are very good and clean. People at the reception are great, kind and helpful. Breakfast is OK. Excellent location, though not exactly at Piazza San Zaccaría. No air conditioning or internet (internet is very expnsive in Venice). The only problem is that it's very noisy in the mornings, because it's on a very busy street/canal. Maybe the great numbers of gondolieri in the afternoon, passing one after another and singing, can compensate for that. Highly recommendable if you don't want to spend too much money.

Excellent position, right behind San Marco and very close to San Zaccaria/San Marco imbarcadero, the hotel is charming and the room was very clean. The general service is very basic (no extra towels, no soap, no air conditioning in the room) but I enjoyed my stay nonetheless.

I found the hotel comfortable and welcoming, and surprisingly cheap compared to where it is, just three minutes from Piazza San Marco. The room (a single) was small, but comfortable enough. The staff were helpful and very friendly. It may be a problem for senior travellers that there is no elevator, and the stairs are relatively steep - but one of the other guests was a gentleman who walked with a stick, who had already stayed at the hotel several times.

Perfectly located near Piazza San Marco and yet off the main thoroughfares. Management was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Breakfast was very nice, especially the fresh bread rolls. We had a room with shared bathroom and shower, which was no problem at all. Outside of our window was one of the main canals used for gondola trips, some gondolieri even entertained us with their "O sole mio"...

Very nice hotel, staff always kind and helpful, rooms and shared facilities always clean. If you don't want to spend too much money for your accomodation and enjoy the atmosphere of an old building (with all its pros and cons), then Hotel Doni will be a perfect choice. Room No. 6 quite modest, with bathrooom, heather did not work, but they probably did not stars a heathing season. Venice is so expensive, so 65 euro (for single) is very competitive price. I recommend room 8 (double) much much spacious. Location excellent!

Venice is expensive, so that is the first thing to remember. The hotel is old and shows its age (all 100 plus years). The single room is very small with sink and very loud hot water heater (sounded like a tea kettle half the time). The toilet was one floor down as was the shower, but never had to wait. Floors were not carpeted, so cleaner, but you heard every sound of the others staying there. Very nice staff and OK breakfast. Great location and close to all the sites.

The hotel is located close to attractions but a bit far from Rialto Bridge. It was not easy to find this hotel. The hotel is small but cosy. There is no lift there which is not good enough. But the hotel reception staff helped me with my luggage. The room was on the last top floor. Not noisy. Windows faced a romantic canal and I felt like in fairy-tale. The shared shower on the other floor was ok. The staff was helpful and friendly, especially the night reception staff. I got some tips as to sightseeing, boat transportation, etc. The only thing is that I needed pressing service which they did not have. Anyway it was a pleasant and nice accommodation.

It is a pretty small hotel in a very centre of Venice, just 3 min.of walk to San Marco and a watertram station. Very friendly and helpful Englishspeaking personal! A shared bathroom and a toilet which are on the same flore with your room, but it is not a problem. There are a wash-stand and a urinal in every room. The breakfast is simple, but sufficient. The rooms are spacious enough with a rather big bed. I could recommend this hotel,it's a nice place at a reasonable price!

Best thing about the Doni is the location. So convenient to St. Marks, but on a pretty quiet canal with gondolas floating by. Our first night we were in a small room on the second floor, shared bath in the hall (as we had booked). The room was tiny and totally outdated, but kind of charming in slightly ratty way. However the room looked out onto a property next door which was undergoing really major renovations (loud dusty, totally unpicturesque). We politely requested a room change and were told a new room would be available the next morning. As promised we were upgraded to a much larger room on the top floor with private bath and two windows looking out onto a typical little courtyard. No extra charge! Remember it pays to ask. This room was great, everything you could want in a one star. Granted it hadn't been redecorated since the 50s, but that just added to the charm. Clean over all, wood floors were gleaming though the bathroom was musty smelling as to be expected in such a damp climate. Skipped the breakfast as I always do in such places... Much better to get fresh espresso and pastry in a bar for a few euro. Staff was nice, only disappointment was when we asked the young girl at the desk to recommend a non touristy seafood restaurant. Following her advice landed us at generic looking spot which though it was off the beaten track, had a huge sign advertising tourist menu and a very high service charge and few seafood options. Desk agent gave us a hotel biz card to pass to our waiter, so probably the hotel gets a kick back for all diners sent their way. We dined elsewhere-- highly recommend Osteria Ca d'oro alla vedova. Overall like the Doni-- but try to get one of the larger upper level rooms with private bath.

Hi we were staying in venice for two nights the locatiopn of the hotel was ideal very close to main square. Although our actual room was in a seperate annexe down the road from the m ain hotel. We felt a little isolated in this sense, the room was standard a little dull, but had kitchen facilities and seperate bathroom which was clean and shower worked well apart from the cubicle was just enough space to stand in. We had a few problems on our first night with ouir radiator blowing up, but the staff were helpful and took it upon themselves to reduce the rate of our room for the inconvenience that was caused. I didnt think much of teh breakfast and personally would have gone without and got the room cheaper to be honest...a few bread rolls, cereal and ham/ juices and tea. On the whole it was fine but i wouldnt stay there again just as i think i would like to be staying somewhere close to staff if there was a problem again/ have a conceierge nearby.

Outstanding ! The appartment we got was hudge, quiet and with a nice view on a small canal...we could enjoy the magic atmosphere of Venice in full, sitting on the small balcony and watching the gondole passing by.....The kitchen with full facilities allows guests to do the cooking if they feel like enjoying the magic athomosphere of Venice at night with a self-made (or heaten-up) dinner Staff (multilingual) was just perfect. My only suggestion to the managment : if you could add some fruit or yoghut to the breakfast buffet, it would be great. By the way the salami served was excellent, thank You,

Great location! Nice and helpful staff. We got the nice room in the front, so you can see and hear the operatic singers go by on the gondolas. Very close to St. Mark's square and short walk over to the Rialto bridge. Kind of wish we had gotten the room with the private bathroom, but the wait for the shared shower room wasn't too bad. Oh, and when you go down Calle del Vin from the water bus, make sure you take a left when you hit the courtyard (open area) where the street seems to end. You'll end up walking alongside the canal which leads you right in front of the hotel. We made a right and got lost for a bit :-). Great value for the price!

At the beginning my boyfriend and I were scare of what we were going to find because the prices were very good but when we arrive we were so surprised and so happy. The location is amazing! the staff of the hotel is very nice and polite, the breakfast is good, is an old hotel but very well care, the first night we didnt have courtains so we couldnt sleep but for our surprise they put it the night after, they were painting them so after that they look brand new. We had our own toilett and it was new and very clean. The only thing bad was that every time the main door open we could hear it in our window but anyways I loved our hotel, definitely i would stay again at Doni and i completely recommended.

Hotel Doni is located right next to a canal with gondolas passing by. We could look down and watch listen to the serenade. The map was accurate...but watch the water bus stops carefully... locations have changed from what the hotel indicated... especially upon leaving. We looked carefully and determined there had been a change and thus did not make an error. Don't be afraid to ask for assistance people are quite friendly and the ticket booths at the bus stops are great for info. Hotel Doni is quaint, old and quite nice. You share a bathroom and we had to hike up 2 narrow flights with our bags..not a big deal if you are strong and in shape, rooms are clean and neat... No A/C but we didn't need it due to the overhead fan and cool nights. Breakfast was traditional European.. Not very hardy but nice. Lots to see and do in Venice and this location is perfect. Everything is expensive but our room was moderate in price thus permitting us to do more...use the water bus and not the taxi's, gondolas are very pricey so think twice. Go to Lido it's a fun island...

Fantastic experience! The location is great (couple of minutes walk from Piazza San Marco), the staff are super helpful and accommodating, the rooms are very clean, and ours even had a view of the canal! The whole atmosphere really transports you back a few centuries, which is wonderful in a place like Venice. Even the breakfast buffet was alright... not great, but good enough for a budget hotel, and far better than the spartan dry-bread-and-jam selection you get at many other B&B's in this price range. Overall we would highly recommend this hotel! It might not be the cheapest, but you can't beat the location and the atmosphere at this price!

I only stayed 1 night, so the location of the hotel was important - and this was perfect: close to the Piazza and restaurants but on a quiet back street. Hotel wasnt easy to find, you'll need a map as the street is tiny and obscured. Great location, 2 minute walk to San Marco Piazza and about 10 minutes to Rialto Bridge. Room was very old and pretty, however there is no internet access, no television and the bedding and pillows are like concrete. As the hotel is so old, it's floorboards are very creaky. If anyone walked within 15 metres of our room, the whole room would shake and rattle. It was very annoying. Staff were friendly enough I suppose, but overall the Hotel was not worth the 75 euro a night we paid for it

The hotel was in a perfect location. Just off the grand canal and one vaporetto stop away from San Marco which is great because it's less crowded. The room was small but quiet and comfortable. I would definitely stay here again.

Hotel is simple and quiet and cheap. Room was good, bed was not too old, breakfast was "continental" (understand bread, butter, marmelade and italian nutela, juice, coffee and tee). If I want to stay 2 weeks with kids then it is probably not a good place, but for a couple who want to spend weekend in Venice it is very good place. Just shared bathroom and toilets on corridor are not very pleasant (even thought it was clean and functional). Steep stairs might cause difficulties to elderly people.

Very close to St Marks, and many vaporetta stations. Gondolas parked in the canal outside so great fun watching them being prepared for the day each morning. Loads of cheap cafes and shops nearby - all in all a good place to stay in Venice if you're on a tight budget.

Para todos los que necesiten una gran ubicación a unos pasos de la plaza de San Marcos, cuartos muy cómodos y limpios, baño completo(en el caso de requerirlo), y una excelente atención, sin lugar a dudas Doni es la mejor opción.

The hotel has an excellent location, a short walking distance from San Marco square and the S. Zaccaria vaporetto stop. By vaporetto, we were able to explore nearby islands. We used vaporetto to get to the airport for a very early morning flight, leaving at 3:44 am, journey taking about an hour, but the cost is far more reasonable by vaporetto than by water taxi. The hotel staff were extremely helpful in finding out the schedule, which had just changed a few days before. Whenever we had questions about how to reach a place, the staff were great. Breakfast was included and we appreciated not having to go out and search for a place to eat. Somehow more relaxing to eat "at home" rather than walking the streets. The hotel is on a canal. Although there were renovations going on in the adjoining building which made for some early morning noise, we believe this was not the usual situation and otherwise, the hotel would be very quiet. Can't emphasize enough the value of the hotel's location.

This is a good place to stay in Venice that is close to a lot of tourist attractions and is very easy to find. The rooms are simple, no frills hotel but I would stay again if on a budget or just for night of two.

It's small but the rooms are very quaint, with old renaissance wallpaper patterns, art deco-ish furniture...it's like staying at your grand grandmother's room.

Hotel "Doni" is a very nice Venetian Albergo. The place, where you can find is really good. The people are friendly and competent.

The website acurately described the services and depicted the hotel well. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We had a larger room in the back of the hotel which was a bit noisy in the evenings and in the morning when the local merchants were starting work. No air conditioning, but it was actually chilly and rainy when we were there a few nights in August! It could have been much worse if it had been hot. The bathroom in our room was TINY, but clean, with a private shower. The location was PERFECT! A stone's throw from St. Mark's and the Palazzo Ducale. Restaurants in the area are tourist traps-way overpriced. Seek alternative eateries wherever possible. The Doni is overpriced for the amenities it offers, but the location is optimal which explains the pricing. We would mostlikely stay there again when on a budget. The Doni is a great location for mid-range needs, i.e. cleanliness, safety, convenience. Overall a great experience.

There was only one shower on the first floor, which it seemed most people in the hotel were sharing. It's pretty expensive for the quality of the rooms, but we booked last minute and didnt have much choice. would not stay here again.

The atmosphere of Hotel Doni was just ideal for our trip to Venice! There was a little canal that ran right in front of the hotel with gondolas passing through singing Italian opera. Fantastic scenery for summer! Doni was steps from San Marco, but hidden away from the huge tourist population. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The only downfall was the bathrooms which could have been more cleanly and welcoming, even though they had to be shared. Breakfast was also disappointing with no fresh fruit to offer.

Gondolier serenades are not so attractive after the first day. Location is excellent. Breakfast is poor, with the only bad coffee I've ever had in Italy!

We had a very pleasant, spacious room, with a sink, a bidet, and a very comfortable bed. The ceiling fan kept us cool at night. Our window overlooked a patio belonging to the building next door. Unfortunately, that building was being refurbished, so we had some bothersome construction noise in the mornings and afternoons (at nap time), but most rooms at Doni overlook other areas (canal or garden patio). The ground floor bathroom needs some work (the shower head should be replaced), but all other bathroom areas were excellent & all were clean. The breakfast is acceptable (plain rolls, butter, jam, 'nuttella'-type chocolate spread, cereal, coffee, "fruit flavored drink"). And finally, the location can't be beat: right by the San Zaccaria vaporetto stop (next to San Marcos). Very handy for catching the Alilaguna boat to or from the airport. The people at the hotel were very kind and helpful. We would stay here again.

The Hotel is situated quite close to the main center. Its good for those who are looking for both comfort and some economic stay. I reached late night at 12 and the kind man helped me a lot with my queries.

My husband and i had a room that was ok, but our friends room was horrible, the wall paper loose at all the seams, the mattress was terrible, the view from their window was a construction site. we stated it would be ok if our friends and us had two double rooms with a shared bath but we understood it was between us and not the whole floor community bath and toliet. i would never stay at this hotel again, even if it was free!!!!!!

There is no doubt that The Doni is on the cheaper end of the Venice Hotel scale. But what you get for the money is really good. I checked with other nearby hotels and they may offer slightly better furniture but at twice the price. I paid €55/night for a single with shared bath. What a great deal it is. In addition, the staff is very, very nice and welcoming. And the location can't be beat, 75m from the vaporetto stops at San Zaccharia. My room looked out onto a plant filled courtyard. It was very tranquil and relaxing. Bathroom situation was o.k. except for two things. My room was on the 2nd floor and one has to go up or down one flight of stairs to the toilet or shower. The second item was that the 1st floor toilet backed up. Staff quickly signposted the WC as "out of order" on my last night there but it was still broken the next morning as I departed. If you are scared to share a bathroom, spend €100+ more to get a private one. Doni is a good place overall.

Well we got this the day before we were to arrive. We had another place in venice booked already and wanted to arrive early. For the location and last minute price I was happy. The rooms only have twin beds thats to bad especially in Venice (romance). We had bathroom in hall but a sink in room and as rooms go in Europe this was fine. Not quiet but we were there to see sights. Location a short walk to St Mark's Square, right off water short walk from vaparotto bus, but get better dirctions, or you'll walk all day. Breakfast ok, hard rolls and average coffee. We were out early and out all day sightseeing. Be careful with pricing at restaurants. Really read menus and check the 12% added and sitting fee it can add up, there are places that include it in the touristic menus. Murano was nice and had a great meal there. Actually got home and realized I didn't buy enough in Venice!

Pretty basic and costly for the size of room, but the location so close to Piazza San Marco is excellent so you probably can't complain. Room was very clean and staff friendly.

When I requested a triple room with one double bed and one single, I never expected to get to spend three nights in a Venetian flat... but that's exactly what happened. The staff at Albergo Doni gave my cousins and me a two bedroom apartment with kitchen, bath, and living/dining room, and our stay there couldn't have been more pleasant. Breakfast was included, and the staff were helpful, knowledgeable, and kind at offering advice for planning our days in Venice. If I ever get the chance to go to Venice again, I'll definitely stay at Albergo Doni!

Doni is situated in the centre of Venice just around the corner of some really nice restaurants and the piazza st marco! You can walk to everything you like, or just take a waterbus at the bustop around the corner! The personell running the hotel are truly very helpful and very nice! I really enjoyed my stay and will surely get back here at least once!

We have stayed in the Doni before and will do so again, but a few comments are in order. The location is excellent and easy to reach by vaporetto. Our room, a double with bath, was clean and enormous, but extremely poorly lit - if you plan to do any night reading, look elsewhere. There is no elevator, which might be an issue for some people. Also, the breakfast was minimal, far below the standard we've found elsewhere in Italy. If you stay here, look for restaurants away from the center; they're cheaper and the quality is better.
