I staid in room 22 in july 2011, the room is between the restaurant and the alleviator .in the mornig i was wake up at 7.00 because the the restaurant open. The front desk is unfriendly rood and ironic i never se that thing before . the only friendly staff were in the breakfast, bat the breakfast is poor. Try somewhere else.

Fantastic location, beautiful rooms - very clean and spacious. The reception staff were not particularly friendly - a smile was a very rare sighting!!! All other staff were lovely. We stayed in Room 24 which is huge, beautifully presented and has views of the canal. However this room leads off the breakfast room and if you are not an early riser I would suggest you avoid this room as they start setting up at 6.30am and unless you are a heavy sleeper this will wake you up. The hotel is ideally located so if you are woken early - get up and a 2 min walk later see St Mark's Square before all the crowds arrive (a completely different and quite magical experience) before coming back for a very good (by European standards) breakfast. The courtyard area is delightful and it is lovely to sit there watching the gondolas go past - and as the canal is the one that the Bridge of Sighs is on you can be sure of a constant stream of them. I would recommend this hotel and if their reception staff were friendlier it would be perfect.

Very well situated, by St. Mark's Square, but quiet. Room fulfilled all my requirements: good mattress, good shower, magnifying mirror in bathroom, good lighting. It was spacious, clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. Only criticism: TV was very small indeed.

When we arrived at the hotel, we were told that we had been switched to their sister hotel - Hotel Ponte dei Sospiri. Similar hotel, seemed a little more run down. WHile breakfast was still included, it required pre-planning and delivery to the room, which really didn't work for us. When we did try it the coffe was cold but the food was generally OK. I assume it came over from the other hotel. Very convenient, but dark and on the expensive side for what we ended up getting. Would probably try somewhere else next time.

We were delightfully surprised. Had a lovely suite on a canal. Very VERY clean, small(33 rooms)European hotel. Chilled champagne (unsolicited) awaited us for our 25th anniversary.Sebastian at front desk is most helpful in directing guests to the "local" spots to eat/visit.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and have no complaints at all. The room was just as I'd been led to expect, and we had a very good night's sleep. The bed was comfortable and with the shutters closed, it was quiet and dark. The bathroom was especially wonderful as well. I do recommend taking the water taxi from the airport---it's so worth it. No hassle at all. We were catching a cruise the following day so we took a water taxi on departure as well. It was so much fun. I have to say too that the breakfast was excellent and we managed to get a table outdoors on the small terrace so that we could experience the sights and sounds of the canal down below. There is a lovely patio area where you arrive by water taxi and it was enjoyable to sit out there too. I'd go back in a heartbeat!

Dona Palace is a very well situated very nice hotel. we had one of the two suites and we felt like in a venetian palace (which it is). The bathroom is perfectly equiped with rainshower and tub with sproodles. The breakfast buffet is soumptious for italian hotels, the staff nice and helpfull. The little garden is very charming with beautiful flowers. We will come back for sure as we travel every year once or twice to Venice this was the best hotel experience ever here.

Our first stay at the Dona Palace. The location is very good, a couple of minutes walk from St. Marks Square. The room was excellent, spacious with a nice bathroom and a view down the canal to the bridge of Sighs. It was also quiet. Our only negative comment was that the bread at breakfast lacked flavour and variety. We would stay there again.

We were in room 12, a suite on a corner on the first floor, with 4 windows with view on a canal and small place. It is very nicely decorated, very spacious, and confortable. The hotel is perfectly situated. Breakfast is included, and of good quality. We recommend this hotel. We went after this hotel 2 nights to the Gritti Palace, but we do prefer the Dona Palace. Perfect value for money.

I really enjoyed my stay at Hotel dona' Palace. The location is perfect, close to the centre, yet quiet. Good restaurant in sister hotel, very nice breakfast room, good breakfast, very comfortable spacious room. Very helpful staff. Unusual for the single traveller to find this level of comfort. My only complaint is to do with the mapping on the internet. I found it marked in 4 different locations and would have found it impossible to locate, especially arriving a night, if it weren't for a blog which gave perfect directions - go through arch at north east corner of St. Mark's Square, turn right opposite Banca di Roma, continue until Cafe s. Angelo, turn left immediately after, hotel on right. I am writing this from memory, it was a bit more detailed, but this was essential information.

Very lovely hotel VERY close to San Marco Square. The breakfast (which is included in the price) is fabulous and served in a beautiful room in the "Palace". Overall my stay here was fantastic. The hotel is literally on the San Marco Piazza, which is very convinient. Can't express enough my thanks to the staff, very friendly and helpful. My room was very spacious and extremely clean and tidy. The bathroom had a jacuzzi. The only thing which I didn't like the prices in the residence bar are sky high. For 2 beers and 2 glasses of wine i paid 25 euro and that's considering 20% discount which you receive on your first night. The breakfast is included and is very good.

Although the hotel could not accommodate us on the first night of our confirmed reservation, they did book us into a suitable hotel a block away, and they compensated for this failing by giving us a spacious room with a penthouse feel for the remaining two nights. Without the disappointment of the first night, we would give this hotel an outstanding rating.

The rooms at the Dona Palace were very spacious and beautifully appointed. The breakfast room was gorgeous and the buffet was the nicest of any hotel during our trip to Italy. The staff was very helpful, and upon our arrival gave us a complimentary glass of wine at their new restaurant across the street. We were very happy with every aspect of our stay there even though we thought the price was a little expensive. We would come back again and recommend it to our friends.

For a short stay in Venice this is a magical small, classy hotel especially room 24. I booked it for one night at 450 Euro and it was worth every penny. Huge two sleeping areas right on the same canal as the Bridge of Sighs. High, high celings, big shuttered windows, beautiful marble floors, quality bedding and sweet, free wireless. it exceeded expectations. for a longer stay in venice one might consider whether you want to be so close to St. Marco's Square and the intense toursit presence. but for a few nights - paradise I love recommending this. it was easy.

My husband and I traveled to Italy for our honeymoon. We found the room at Hotel Dona' Palace to be absolutely beautiful. While the staff was not the most helpful regarding questions about where to dine (they clearly had been told to push a particular restaurant which is tied in some manner to the hotel), they otherwise were very helpful and hospitable. The staff even had champagne and cookies set out in our room upon our arrival for congratulations on our wedding. Our actual room was considerably nicer than the photographs on the website. The breakfast offering also was very good. The hotel is a bit difficult to initially find since the streets are not well marked but, once you do find it, you realize how conveniently located it is. Overall, my husband and I loved our experience with Hotel Dona' Palace and plan on staying there when we eventually re-visit Venice. We both highly recommend Hotel Dona' Palace (and even have encouraged my parents to stay there when they visit Venice next year). Note: The only reason we have rated the quietness of the rooms as a 6 is that construction was happening on the building across from our hotel window. But for such work, the room was wonderfully quiet.

The restaurants that the hotel gives discounts on are awful, and not at all in keeping with the image and quality of the hotel.(not HK)We sat down in one of them, looked at the tatty menus, heard the awful disco music playing, saw the ridiculously large menu which could not have possibly been cooked fresh daily, and left. The prices are also absurd for the quality of food. Better to walk out of the immediate vicinity of San Marco, where there are some lovely, fairly priced and good quality pizzerias and restaurants. HK and others nearby may well serve beautiful food but, as with so many places in Venice, way overpriced for the tourists. (we saw a shrimp cocktail for 36 euros!)Get on a waterbus and visit 'Zucca' (best to book)which was fabulous. OUr best meal in Venice was here and the prices are good too! The Dona' Palace is lovely. We had a massive room which was very luxurious(enormous bed!), the staff were wonderful and the breakfast good. We appreciated the little 'freebies' given to us as well. Beware the 'welcome' tray with wine and biscuits - it's NOT FREE! We thought it should be for the price of the rooms - it would have been a lovely welcome gesture, particularly as it was our 20th Wedding Anniversary. Room service charges also a bit steep. but great bar service. However, we would recommend this hotel and visit again ourselves. It is perfectly placed for the sights and sounds of Venice.

We had room 26,a spacious corner suite on the second floor. The living room was directly over the same canal as the Bridge of Sighs so we had a continuous stream of gondolas under the window. The huge bedroom looked out on the pleasant inner courtyard. The allmarble bathroom was equally spacious and beautifully appointed. The location is excellent; a 3-minute walk from the center of activity in Piazza San Marco yet on a quiet side street. If you don't use the very expensive (100 Euros)water taxi which deposits you right at the back door, the hotel is a 10 minute walk, crossing 3 bridges, from the nearest Vaporetto stop. We highly recommend Dona Palace.

It has been the best hotel that ive been in a long time, specially that suite. The only problem was that i had to work so i had to use the internet conection, at it doesnt work. when i asked to the recepcionisto for help, she sent some one who knew nothing about comuters. I know the price was high, but wasnt looking for something cheaper. i mean i knew that a suite in the down town of venice had to be little expensive. ill regturn to the same hotel to the same suite when i return to Venice.

The location of this hotel is tremendous. You're literally about a 1 minute walk to St. Mark's Square and a 5 minute walk to the Realto Bridge. We booked one of the suites in the hotel and the room was on the top floor of the hotel with a seperate sitting room and rooftop terrace overlooking the rooftops of Venice. There was also a full-size hot tub on the terrace...amazing. The room was surprisingly quiet considering the area. Beakfast bar was good, not great...although it's tough to find a good breakfast spot in all of Italy. Perfect hotel for me and if I return to Venice I'll stay in this hotel for sure.

The breakfast buffet was very good each morning. The bar service in the evening was just ok. I felt the price of the hotel was very expensive but everything in Venice is expensive. We took advantage of the free ride to the island or Murano to see the glass blowers. It was a nice perk but you are can feel trapped by the company taking you over. If you are on a budget and want glass - the prices got cheaper as you went further into the island. It was a little difficult to find the hotel. The air conditioning was fair. The view from our outside patio was of rooftops and we had a jacuzzi but they told us we needed to give them a 2 hour advance notice to use it.

Beautiful hotel, the photos don't really do it justice. Unbelievably close to St Marcs, we could see the basilica from our room. All of the public areas were lovely, especially the terrace. Our room was very spacious, clean and well equiped. Service was professional and efficient, with attention to detail. It was my birthday while we were there and the staff left a birthday cake for me - they had obviously checked their records! One of the best parts of the holiday was the water taxi ride from the airport to the hotel. It was about 80 Euros, but well worth it to arrive at the hotel exhillerated. The hotel has it's own dock, so very convenient for water taxis. I will always stay at the Dona Palace when I return to Venice, and I hope I will be returning.

The hotel is quite expensive for me, but it worths the money. Located just one turn from Piazza San Marco. At first, it is difficult to find, because the street name is not displayed (look for Calle de l'Angelo instead of Calle at Pointe de l'Anzolo when coming along Larga S.Marco). Breakfast is fantastic! Do not try to use internal elevator to the upper floor: it can stuck. Reserve at least 1.5 hours to reach the train station. The ferry is very slow.

This hotel was very nice, and would probably be a 5 star if it was larger and had more facilities. It is right off St Mark's square but is very hard to find. If you are in St Mark's square, face the front of the basilica. Then go to the left of the basilica, and look down the alleys on your left. After you pass 2 maybe 3, you will see a sign above an alley that says "Grotto". The hotel is there just after the sign.

We arrived at night at Marco Polo airport and travelled to the Hotel by water taxi and that ride set the pace for the entire stay. The ride in was magical with light twinkling and reflecting off the waterways and canals. To arrive by water taxi is a brilliant way to start a holiday and it again set the standard for Venice. We had room 50 which was I suspect just about in the roof as the wooden beams were exposed and gave a charm to the most spacious room with plenty of drawer and wardrobe capacity. It was very quiet and although we had no real view except the Venetian rooftops that did not bother us at all. Reception and breakfast staff were most competent and helpful and gave us good advice of where to go and what to see. The entire hotel was spotlessly clean and we would certainly have no hesitation to reccommend it to anyone. There were plenty of very acceptable eating places within a few minuites walk from the Donna Palace, and the general location so near St Mark's Square and the waterfront was excellent. We stayed for six nights but we wish it had been longer and next time it certainly will, as we do hope to go back to Venice again. We went back to Marco Polo airport by the hotel water taxi, and we then saw by daylight what had been so magical by night. To us Donna Palace means Venice, and Venice means Donna Palace. My general impression was very good, when my future wife and I arrived in the room we were astonished by the space and the beauty of it. Nevertheless, we had a bad experience with the heating which was not working in the room so the first night was freezing. So I asked another blanket and if somebody could check the heating... I receive the blanket after two reminders and nobody checked the heating so we were quite disappointed on this particular case. Anyhow, Venise is so beautiful that you forget very easily this kind of little disagrements...

This hotel is in the centre of everything in venice without the noise and the millions of turists. Tucked away 5 mins from st. Mark square, its confortable spacious rooms are all you need after a busy day exploring beautiful venice. We recommend the Tratoria associated with the hotel(they give 15% discount, ask in reception)we had some great pizzas there. The courtyard of the hotel is beautiful and relaxing. It was freezing when we went but we still spend time in the peaceful courtyard watching the gondolas go by. The breakfast was very nice and plentiful. We had room 33 on the second floor, it was huge and confortable. If i return to Venice i would only stay in the Dona' Place Hotel. If arriving by Alilaguna vaporetto cross st. Marks square, walk past the basilica to the right then towards the canal and look for a sign on a little alley on the left saying grotta, the hotel entrance is there. Do book the hotel taxi transfer to the airport, it was cheap (55euro for two)and it was great fun.

This hotel is very hard to find even though it is only 100 yards or so from St. Mark's Square. Desk staff was competent but very unfriendly. Only a small sign marks the hotel door. The only friendly staff were the breakfast room people, especially the young blonde girl. Our room was tiny, barely enough space to turn around in. This was the smallest room that we stayed in during our two week trip to Italy. The hotel was very convenient to St. Mark's Square and the Vaporetto stop. Numerous restaurants, shops and sights are close by. The breakfast buffet was the best that we had during our trip to Italy. The hotel had a very nice garden area that is located on a canal. A good location, located right in the heart of the action, but a very unsatisfactory room. Our tiny room in combination with the unfriendly staff makes this a less than desireable experience. There are many other hotels located nearby and I would probably opt to stay at one of them instead of the Dona Palace on my next trip to Venice. I was traveling with my 20 year old daughter to give her a taste of Italy.

Fantastic hotel, friendly staff, excellent walue for location and excellence of the accomodation. Breakfast was also included in the price which fills you up for the day ahead. The only downside was the noise from the canal traffic and the building work on the opposite side of the canal, but as the hotel is situated on the main highway through to the Grand canal this is to be expected. Our room exceeded our expectations and was very roomy and well equiped all in all very happy and would return in the near future.

We stayed at Dona Palace during the end of our honeymoon in October 2006 and had a wonderful time! Upon our arrival there was a bottle of champagne in the room and little cookies. Our room was spotless, had a marble bathroom and huge windows overlooking a canal. Dona Palace was elegant and beautiful! Great bar on the 2nd floor with a balcony over the canal, HOT BREAKFAST including eggs and sausage in morning. Well worth the price, especially for Venice! Friendly staff speaks perfect English. Location was perfect IF - and I repeat IF - you enjoy being in the center of it all. St. Mark's is around the corner and is always packed with loads of tourists including cruise ship guests who wait in long lines all day. Immediately surrounding the hotel are lots of souvenir shops and restaurants that cater to tourists. I think next time I would not stay near St. Mark's since now we've seen it and the tourist volume does put a bit of a damper on the experience. Plus, Venice is made for exploring! One final thing: hotel has private dock so taking a gondola ride or taking a water taxi (35 eu) from the hotel to the airport or train station was so convenient.

We are from Canada and this was our first trip to Italy. We were a little apprehensive about trusting online descriptions of the hotels in Italy. This hotel is in an ideal location to great restaurants, shops, and all the attractions. It is a 1 minute walk from San Marco Square and yet it is tucked away so it is quiet at night. The room was very large with a clean and state of the art bathroom. The pictures online did not do it justice. The breakfasts were wonderful and the staff members were courteous and very accomodating. We will definitely be returning to Venice and to the Dona Palace!! You won't be disappointed. Of all the places we visited in Italy, both Venice and the Dona Palace rank top on our list.

Absolutely adored this hotel, a wonderful place to stay in Venice. Immaculately clean, rooms are decorated with tasteful, quality Biedermeier furniture, silk bedspreads and curtains, marble bathrooms floor to ceiling, welcoming variety of drinks in room (if you don't mind paying steep prices for the convenience), and hotel offers a voucher for complimentary drinks on the day of your arrival. Guests can relax and enjoy the beautiful terrace in back of hotel on the canal side, where you can be dropped off by water taxi on arrival, or picked up for departure. After making an inquiry, I was happy to learn that the hotel offers a complimentary water taxi ride to the island of Murano, where they arrange a free, personalized tour of the glass-blowing factory Marco Polo. Also important to know that the hotel offers a discounted water taxi fare. From the train station, ride to the hotel was quoted as 80 EUR. Our water taxi fare through the hotel for departure was 40 EUR, (30/room + 10 additional room). Stunning top-floor, architecturally enchanting room with terrace overlooking canal facing ancient building. Here a bountiful, diverse breakfast is served each morning, newspapers on hand, bar well stocked for afternoon visitors. I'll recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Venice. Our stay at the Dona Palace enhanced our unforgettable Venetian experience. I can't wait to go back.

This was our first time in Italy, and we found it to be unbearably hot and crowded; however, the Dona' Palace was a restful oasis. The air conditioning was blissfully effective (unlike on the trains and other hotels we experienced in Italy), so it was nice to be able to return to the room to get a break from the crowds. People who prefer a quieter visit would likely prefer to be situated someplace other than the touristy area of St. Marks Square, but if there, you can't beat the Dona' Palace. The hotel water taxi to the train station is a very useful option and justifiable splurge at 30 euros.

Great location close to St Marks Square offering views of the Bridge of Sighs. Bedroom and bathroom were excellent. Breakfast disappointing. Dining Room doubled up as lounge - did not work too well. Garden overlooking canal was great- frequent passing gondolas.

Great location, good size rooms and quite comfortable. Most of the hotel staff were extremely competent and service oriented. One night clerk however when tasked to solve an important problem one evening totally punted and passed the buck. Service like that would normally make me pass up this hotel, thankfully it seemed limited to that one person.

Ok, a great location...right near doge's palace and the square. anyplace is venice is gorgeous because of the canals. common now. the room was very nice and clean, and modern. the only gripe i had (don't know if this was venere's or the hotel's error) was that our room wasn't confirmed! we got the reservation confirmation from venere, but they didn't have the reservation! they were nice enough to figure something out and accomodate us.

I enjoyed my stay at Dona Palace. The hotel is in an ideal position just near Piazza san Marco. The rooms are very attractively decorated with all the mod cons. The only downside is that the hotel does not have its own restaurant for meals other than breakfast, although they have affiliated restaurants in the area. However, as I require a gluten-free diet, it was very difficult to get support with this.

It's really a great hotel with excellent rooms and a huge breakfast buffet including fruit salad, scrambled eggs and good coffee. The hotel is located very central, only 3 minutes from Marcus-square. They have a nice balkony over a canal where you can have breakfast or sit in the evening and enjoy singing Gondolieres passing by. I really can recommend this hotel although its a bit expensive.

A really excellent hotel - would recommend to anyone. Map on venere is useless to be able to find the entry to the hotel which like most in Venice is just a doorway. Would strongly recommend booking the hotel boat to take you to the airport - such a special way to leave Venice. Hotel has links to a local restaurant but the food (again like most restaurants in Venice) is not good. Can recommend drinks at Harry's Bar which is just a walk away

This was our 2nd stay at the Dona Palace in Venice and like the 1st time, it was wonderful. I had requested a room on a 4th floor and we got in the same room as teh 1st visit, which was large and beautiful. It was like coming back home in our own appartment !!! Dona Palace is very well located nearby the San Marco Piazza ans very quiet as well. It is always a pleasure and a wonderful delight to stay there.

The Dona' Palace was great. The staff was efficient and helpful. The room was huge with an excellent bathroom and large walk-in shower. The hotel has a nice bar to relax in after a long day of walking around Venice. The only slight drawback is its proximity to Piazza San Marco - you're thrown into the thick of the tourist crowd the moment you walk out the front door.

L'hotel est idéalement situé entre la place saint marc et le pont des soupirs. Nous avions une baignoire à bulle dans la chambre! Le room service est super. Ils ont offert une super bouteille de champagne italien à mon épouse pour ses 40 ans.

The Hotel was easy to find, the rooms were warm and welcoming despite it being a freezing February evening. Upon arrival we were greeted by friendly staff, complimentary Prosecco and sandwiches and an excellently appointed room. Would definitely recommend this hotel. On the general location - food is extortionate around St Marks, for value and quality walk to the Cannaregio district. Overall, a very pleasant stay.

My only concerns are that it was extremely cold during our stay. We repeatedly requiested that the radiators in the bathroom be fixed as they were cold. Despite frequent attempts this problem was not solved. In spite of this I would recommend the Dona Palace to anyone

My only concerns about the hotel were that a the beds were very firm and therefore niether my wife or I managed a comfortable nights sleep (I think this is more about us than the beds though) and b) at six foot six the first room we were showed the celling was so low that I could not stand up straight! (The staff were very helpful though and changed our room where the celling was so high I could not reach it even if i jumped off the firm bed! - not that I tried of course!!!)

We visit often various areas mainly in europe choosing nice hotel. This one was not to bad but a lot of details were missing to make us fully satisfied. For the diner in the room it was not possible to pick several items in the menu. They were no microwave-oven to warm up the food of our baby. The heating was not efficient enough to keep the room at a convenient temperature and was as well a bit noisy (ok it was 2°C outside). The breakfast was not made up from high quality material and we were listening through the speakers to pop records instead of classical venitian music. In the suite that we took, the room's decoration was minimal. In summary, it was overall correct and people were nice. However it is a shame in such a nice old building and wonderfull surrounding as Venice to not finish up all the details that would have made from Dona Palace a real 4 stars hotel.

The photo's don't do it justice, it's a fabulous hotel, certainly deserving of it's 4 stars. We got a huge room, with everything I'd expect. The Hotel's bar is fine for a quiet drink, but don't expect an atmosphere. There's 3 affiliated restaurants, one "the grotto" is fine for a quick Pizza, but keep away from the other two, rude staff, terrible food, but they do server 1 Litre Steins of Beer. Better restaurants can be found by turning right out of the hotel and following the side streets... the best was a place called Marco Polo...great food. One of the cafe's in St Marcs opens as a late night jazz bar, definately worth a visit. and don't forget your wellies this time of year!

The Dona' Palace is a rare find in Venice. Great value for money, it is just a few steps from St. Marks and a convenient home base for your visit. The hotel is actually a 16th century palace, though this is only discernible from the exterior and a large and attractive hall used as a breakfast room and lounge. The rest of the hotel's interior is thoroughly modern, with such unexpected conveniences as wireless internet included for no extra charge. The rooms are comfortable, reasonably sized and attractively furnished in the "Regency" style and boast flat screen televisions. The staff was helpful and friendly, and all we encountered were comfortable with English. There was some exterior work going on during the day at the time of our stay (12/2005), but this is scheduled to be complete by the end of January.

We had a fantastic junior suite for 3 nights - very spacious and considering prices in Venice and hotel location, not too expensive. Slight criticism: we wanted to leave early on last day, but were unable to get an early breakfast - bit unusual in 4 star hotel.

I have had to tick almost every box as excellent for this hotel. It was the perfect place to stay in Venice. Wonderful staff, perfect buffet breakfast. A welcome drink served in the charming dining room. Our room was overlooking the canal and couldn't have been more romantic with the old gothic style combined with all modern comforts. We booked a suite so that our daughter had her own little room. Her room had a flat screen tv so she A wonderful little patio garden to have evening drinks. The hotel is only two minutes stroll from St. Marks square (practically around the corner) set in typical little venice streets with restaurants and lovely shops on the doorstep !

What a fantasic hotel!! Location could not be better, 2 mins from St Marks, but not noisy at all. We had a junior suite with views over the canal. Breakfast was served in a bright room which also had a balcony looking over a canal, if you looked out you could see the bridge of sighs. There is a lovely little seating area outside where you can have drinks and watch the gondolas sail past. Would definatly stay here again! Expensive but worth every penny.

Lives up to its great reputation. Real value for money. Must be one of the best hotels in Venice. Service excellent. They even provided a surprise birthday cake! Lovely and thoughtful touch. Only snag was noise from room above late on first night (but fine on the other two). Water taxi well worth it. The alternative is a walk through the crowds to a crowded and slow vaporetto. (Use the stop at San Zaccaria rather than San Marco.)
